for its 303rd release, tresor records is glad to present a commissioned work by donato dozzy. rome based production maestro and dj extraordinaire donato dozzy is unanimously considered as an illustrious leading light in all techno artforms. along his long career and extensive discography, dozzy has proven to use his instruments most interesting ways, always re-inventing his music, always presenting new approaches to both the deeper and the more rhythmic forms of electronic music. it was self-evident to tresor records to enroll donato dozzy’s talents for this assignment, a nod to the seminal roland tb-303 bass synthesizer. the result is a relentless collection of radical, propulsive and bleeding-heart acid tracks. donato dozzy wishes to dedicate this work to his lifelong friend filo.

copenhagens terry tester (brownswood / bbe) merges his love for midwest house and cosmic funk butter on four-tracker space million for creak inc., journeying through dream state deep house, gritty mpc workouts and low-end boogie territory for an undeniably original take on four-to-the-floor rhythms. within terry testers two-decade long career as a turntablist and beatmaker his eminent take on house, hiphop and soul has been commissioned by gilles petterson for his ‘bubblers’ compilation series on brownswood recordings, jahi featuring american neo-soul singer dwele, and marc mac (4hero, visioneers, nu era) on bbe remixing alongside dj jazzy jeff, as well as releasing two full-length solo albums horses and diamonds and short suite.

1954 is the fifth vinyl release on the modern cathedrals label by recent detroit export altstadt echo. staying true to the themes of the the “year series” that began with the 1913 ep and was followed by the 1905 ep, the artist continues to explore somber, broken beat techno with an eroded, highly-textured percussive focus. in the previous two eps from this series, altstadt echo was joined by varg, abdulla rashim, stave, and evigt morker on remix duty. for the 1954 ep, he’s commissioned uk artist szare, who delivers a highly danceable revision that combines the ghostly vocals of the original with highly frenetic percussive injections. the artwork of the ep is aligned with the label’s greyscale documentation of detroit, this time featuring the stunning architecture of the new center district of the city. the photos were taken by the artist prior to his move to berlin in fall 2017.

biosphere is the main recording name of geir jenssen, a norwegian musician who has released a notable catalogue of ambient electronic music. he is well known for his works on ambient techno and arctic themed pieces, his use of music loops, and peculiar samples from sci-fi sources. his 1997 album substrata was voted by the users of the hyperreal website in 2001 as the best all-time classic ambient album. the hilvarenbeek recordings are based on field recordings from the dutch farm biologische boerderij t schop in hilvarenbeek. the work was commissioned by incubate festival in tilburg.

a return to the source: ribcage is where it all began for the dubfire project. after years of exploring, subverting and setting brave new benchmarks in the house world, this marked the start of ali shirazinia setting out to set the same creative benchmarks in techno. restrained, drawn-out but beastly when it wanted to be, the original was a serious statement of intent. even at the time you got a sense it was going to be a historic tune. loco dice especially felt that when he signed it to desolat 10 years ago. to celebrate this time-flying milestone, dubfireÆs recruited two of the most respected names possible for remix duties. first up, the unstoppable, unavoidable, unquenchable dense & pika who keep within the dramatic rising template but with a whole new set of instruments and texturesà and a percussion palette that absolutely sizzles when the whole groove kicks in mid-way. phenomenal. hot on their heels comes a unique remix invitation to on-u legend and one of the ukÆs most decorated and treasured studio controllers adrian sherwood. turning in a serious techno re-cut that pays tribute to every element and takes over 12 minutes to make sure they each shine amid the head-twisting pools of tripped-out decay, itÆs clear his time with pinch has had a profound effect. two incredibly well considered and detailed remixes that remind you what remixes should beà brave new chapters of a story we all love being told. these will sound great when the 20th anniversary remixes are commissioned in 2027.

as part of our 10th anniversary this year, huntleys + palmers are very excited to present a special release with a combination of our musical influences old and new smagghe & cross feat. matthew herbert + remixes ivan smagghe has been a long time influence on the h+p world and we re huge fans of his new smagghe & cross project with the film composer and programmer, rupert cross. not only that, but one of the tracks features another hero, matthew herbert - making a rare appearance on vocals (and sounding pretty robert wyatt-esque in the process). additionally, we re really chuffed to have commissioned a honey soundsystem generator remix by jackie house, super-swedes, samo dj & pedrodollar turn in a trippy groover, and have enlisted the services of the dj who played the first ever h+p party back in 2007, pilooski - completing another circle during the 10th anniversary year.

utter presents rgbpm, trevor jackson s four piece audio-visual work originally commissioned for a live performance at the optronica festival in 2007, on london s imax, the biggest screen in the uk. optronica, programmed by addictive tv/cinefeel in collaboration with the british film institute, held its second festival over five consecutive days at the imax, ica and bfi southbank in march 2007. a showcase of the most exciting talent working in visual music, optronica s 2007 event was a platform for live performances, talks, screenings and workshops from the likes of fennesz, peter greenaway and ryoichi kurokawa. jackson s piece took over six months to develop and yet was performed only once. on march 14th the premier of rgbpm opened the festival in spectacular fashion, jackson performing the music live with its accompanying hd visuals generated in real time using custom-built software created especially by weirdcore. a powerful multi-sensory experience, the event remains one of the defining moments of jackson s lengthy career. the visuals consist of abstract shapes synchronised perfectly to jackson’s soundtrack. choreographed to represent musical elements within each track, they explore the relationship between melody, colour, rhythm and form. the diverse soundtrack combines magical motorik experiments, demented acidic jams, melodic subterranean techno and dark discordant electronic soundscapes. it s a timeless selection of music that holds its own to this day. a decade on from rgbpm s lone airing, utter is proud to release all four parts together for the first time as a special 12- package, mastered and cut by helmut erler at d&m and housed in a sleeve designed by jackson himself.

this is a collection of works from british musician gp hall, recorded between 1994 and 1999. for over four decades, guitar in hand hall encountered many styles, jazz, blues, flamenco, rock, folk, and classical improvisation. all contributed to the creation of his unique style. emerging from the british blues boom of the 1960’s, he then followed a long and winding path through various scenes and cultures. in spain, he was influenced by flamenco master manitas del plata before touring europe with liverpool band casey jones & the governors. he was commissioned three times (twice by the arts council of great britain) for original music and was immersed in the avant-garde scene of the 1970’s as an improviser, a pioneer of electric flamenco and a composer of large-scale ensemble pieces. during the 1980’s hall turned his focus to soundtrack music before reinventing himself as the solo performer he is today. with this strong foundation he branched into a tactile expression of his craft, discovering a new style which he called industrial sound sculptures. these sonic compositions are performed on electric and acoustic guitars as well as the six-string bass and are played with various techniques and implements including slides, battery fans, the psaltery bow, razors, toys, velcro and crocodile clips which are fed through sound processors to create a rich sonic environment.

non worldwide co-founder chino amobi makes his vinyl debut with the soundtrack to choreographer ligia lewis’ minor matter, a performance piece that deftly articulates an argument for minoritarian politics. most of the material is newly commissioned but one of the tracks, ‘locus of control’, is lifted from amobi’s provocative airport music for queer black and brown folk album, in which he follows brian eno in inducing the atmosphere of an airport terminal. but through the eyes of a black man and with 2016 realism, it’s a different story, where eno invites lullaby, chino unshackles nightmare

biomechanoid is the classic 1980 album by composer and flutist joel vandroogenbroeck. the cover art served as the basis for the design of the movie alien. its 1980, in munich, germany, upstart production music label coloursound library releases their debut album. capitalising on the success of ridley scott s alien film, the label dropped biomechanoid, featuring cover art commissioned by hr giger, whose horrific necronom iv lithograph served as the basis for the design of alien and the music of the relatively unknown joel vandroogenbroeck. comprised of bleak, cinematic synth soundscapes and percussion, the album served as an inaugural calling card for what would be a decade of dizzying solo releases by vandroogenbroeck for coloursound, running the gamut from mesopotamian ethno-folk to synth sequencer funk to electro drum breaks to in-utero ambient delights

oxias classic domino gets reworked for its ten year anniversary - in 2 vinyl parts. a decade after initially seeing the light, oxias now classic domino gets reworked to celebrate its anniversary. the new release features a new cut by oxia himself as well as several remixes by none other than frankey & sandrino, robag wruhme and matador. the ep will be released through agoria’s newly found record label sapiens on february 24th. ten years ago the track made waves in the international dance music circuit, striking up chords with techno, trance and house djs alike to quickly become an all-time classic. having never expected the track to reach the status that it his, its a very dear project to oxia and he needed quite some persuading to give in and let agoria and his team create something that was worthy of the original. the set of tracks are the first officially commissioned remixes by oxia ever. finding remixers took some time, the amazing frankey & sandrino whos track acamar is my absolute favourite of 2015, matador that just launched his rukus label as well is the multi-talented ex label mate at kompakt robag wruhme. they are all incredibly gifted and fortunately patient enough to wait for this ep

dele sosimis album you no fit touch am was released in 2015 to much universal acclaim. a perfect document of the lessons the keyboard master and vocalist learned in fela kuti s ranks during the 70s and 80s, but brought firmly up-to-date and with contemporary social comment as vital to the afrobeat genre as any rhythm or instrument. in 2016, to take that forward thinking even further, wah wah 45s commissioned four huge remixes from a quartet of the uk s most interesting new production names. that was just part one of the story though this year the label can reveal the final four remixes to be taken from this hugely popular and influential project.

the last couple of years have been huge for pomo, going from a relatively obscure canadian producer to releasing his debut ep on hw&w, remixing for the likes of janet jackson and mark ronson, producing am i wrong? on anderson paak s debt album and touring the globe with disclosure as their opening act. bastard jazz has commissioned pomo to be next in line for the fourth volume of their tempo dreams compilation series, following on the heels of the hotly contested soul clap compiled vol. 3. as with other tempo dreams records, pomo has curated a slick and well polished album full of exclusive tracks from friends and collaborators such as lindsay lowend, aloka, exmag, syre, daniel crawford, fvlcrvm and more. touching on the shimmering nudisco sound, plodding deep electronic vibes, funky instrumental hip-hop, and even a hint of drum n bass, tempo dreams vol. 4 takes it s rightful place in the series as one of the most forward thinking compilations showcasing emerging young talent.

jimpster s much loved eel pie island track first graced the coveted 10 years of systematic compilation from last year. now, after widespread love, label boss marc romboy has commissioned a set of remixes to give the track an extra lease of life for the coming summer months. the originals, locomotive esque, slow-mo jam is taken on first by keinemusik main-man and cocoon favourite adam port. the german brings techno and minimal sensibilities to the fore but with extra tempo and swing. a mid tempo beat drives the track as atmospheric flourishes and nuanced samples create a lighter and breezier feel. an added vocal adds a hazy dose of ethereal pleasure, as adam creates another slice of musical magic. fresh from his objektivity release, hyenah offers a version of eel pie island that brings a chiming, plonking vibe, wood block percussion and bongos, all fluctuating in a sea of tribal beats, deep house and delicious sub bass. another triumph for systematic.

for their next release, zone records welcome legendary french producer, remixer, singer, songwriter and emblematic musical star arnaud rebotini for a fascinating four track ep. alongside the standout music, the artwork for the ep is a photo of a suitably impressive sculpture of arnaud that the label have had specially commissioned for the release. arnaud rebotini has done it all, from pioneering electronic works to teaming up with chamber orchestras. a real synth wizard and mesmeric live performer who has remixed everyone from depeche mode to nitzer ebb, bloc party to rammstein, he is an award winning musician who also started the seminal black strobe group and has had his music used on a number of films such as the wolf of wall street. as such, from experimental pop to death metal, electro to soundtracks, he has done it all. now he returns to his good friends at zone music for another sterling ep.

lakker were commissioned by the re:vive initiative to create a new conceptual work solely sampling field recording, tv and radio broadcasts from the dutch national av archive, the netherlands institute for sound and vision. the curated material provided all related to and was representative of the theme the “dutch and water”.
the resulting 8 track release “struggle and emerge” is a tense soundtrack to the machine driven mid-20th century that captures the complex relationship between the dutch and the water that surrounds them- unyielding, colossal, industrial.

following the recent release of so low, a compilation of early ‘80s synth, industrial and cold wave classics and undiscovered gems curated by optimo’s jd twitch aka keith mcivor, the vinyl factory are set to release specially commissioned remixes of two tracks on the 16-track compilation by rising uk producer powell and hamburg’s helena hauff. powell’s pneumatic sound is perfectly suited to ‘49 second romance’ by german minimalists p1/e, which he deftly deconstructs, while hauff adds glistening synths to belgian electro-industrial group the klinik’s ‘moving hands’ for a driving, nocturnal version.

following the success of the first four eps, the fifth onnset release comes from jamie curnock. marking the beginning of a new series, bristol based illustrator tommy parker has been commissioned to develop four original pieces of artwork based around the concept of exploration. fracture then collapse ep comprises of three original tracks and a remix by patrick bolton.

the last couple of years have been huge for pomo, going from a relatively obscure canadian producer to releasing his debut ep on hw&w, remixing for the likes of janet jackson and mark ronson, and touring the globe with disclosure as their hand-picked opening act.
bastard jazz has commissioned pomo to be next in line for the fourth volume of their *tempo dreams* compilation albums, following on the heels of the hotly contested soul clap compiled vol. 3. as with other tempo dreams records, we tease it out with a limited 7 inch release with tracks from the compiler made specifically for the tempo dreams album.
*blue soda* (part 1) - pomos first original release since his ep in november of 2014 is a typical, rollicking pomo new disco joint with stabbing synths, chopped vocal samples and an irresistible bassline. part 2 on the flip-side delivers more of the same, with a little more of an introspective twist. part 2 is exclusive to the 7 inch only and wont be on the album.
