marek hemmann s new ep chameleon offers an appetizer to his forthcoming album: two euphoric 10minute house cuts that do what they do whether in the oven that is the underground cellar or on the window sill at home with a view to the prairie. both give that hemmann characteristic crispy , dry beat with a pulse and drives the listener almost trance-like ever forward. on top of that, -chameleon- builds a tender, soft synthie sound structure that again and again brings a wonderful heavenly vibe that in seconds turns into a complex form. alice uses a similarly sounding house rhythm and forms a soft almost romantic melody that so quickly takes on a hypnotic-type flavor

ltd 2020 repress !! tj hertzs first original release since 2014s critically acclaimed flatland lp comes in the form of objekt #4, a continuation of his club-focused white label series and a tribute to the sadly now defunct basement q, a formative and beloved haunt in berlin’s schöneberg district which quietly but profoundly shaped the musical identities of hertz and several of his contemporaries until its final closure in 2012.
the two tracks on objekt #4 pay tribute to two of the many musical facets of basement q in its later years. a-side “needle and thread” aims to condense several hours of a thursday night in the basement into 9 minutes and 26 seconds, embellishing a hypnotic rolling techno backbone with hyper-detailed atmospherics, enchanting melodies and tight, strident breakbeats. b-side “theme from q” is hertz’s reinterpretation of a basement q anthem, owner and founder dj bogdan’s own “love inna basement (morning dub)”, which never saw an official release despite providing the soundtrack to over 20 years of late morning love-ins in the cellar underneath the sattler & söhne glue factory. together, the two tracks offer an incomplete but nonetheless seductive illustration of one of the most idiosyncratic and overlooked clubs in berlin’s recent history.

2nd ep from david kitts new jackson yous lp released in march this year a mini lp of sorts featuring 5 new tracks! according to david: like lightning was written after a late night/early morning adventure with friends in galway city a good few years ago now. i always find it hard to choose singles but this seemed to be lot of people s favourite album track. i ve availed of every last second of space on the 10 inch to turn this release into a mini-album of sorts with three quite different instrumentals one part folk, one part modular electronic and one recorded using two buddah boxes in the glasgow underground. there are also two unreleased songs that have knocking around the hard drive for a while but fit nicely on this release.

breaking his silence after twenty years, sebastian snoeck a.k.a sebastian s. will be the second member of belgian collective “bwp experiments” to release on the basic moves imprint. he has handed over two previously unpublished tracks made under the moniker caustic 14. after listening to “personal space invader” in 1997, carl craig asked sebastian s. to produce new material for his own label, planet e. “message in a box” and “rising star” were therefore made as a response to this request. however, due to a political transatlantic rift the tracks never saw the light of day and have since been stored on dat tapes, hidden away from the general public’s ears. if i had to describe sebastian’s output, i’d say it is most importantly energetic, positive, and groovy. it bears the mark of a certain nostalgia, shying away from the blind celebration of both futurism and experimentation in order to reach intemporality. this attempt to exist outside of time gives his productions a certain character and in my opinion his music has come to embody something i like to call “space opera techno”. sebastian s has succeeded where many before him have failed: by avoiding copycat tactics and simplified approaches to production he managed to create a singular identity. the tracks are recognisable after the first few seconds – and that’s what makes his work so unique!

ooooooh yeeeaaah!!! haasten is here! one of technos fastest rising stars brings his strongest ep to date with two huge tracks you will be hearing lot of this summer! egbert returns to gem… >haasten< (translates into hurrying) has been destroying crowds during egberts live sets around the globe for the past few months. a dark commanding bass line that skips over the beat is accompanied by a retro sounding orchestral jab to create what is looking to become one of this years biggest techno tracks! the b-side >yourself< has also proven to be a crowd pleaser and is paving the way for the future of percussion based techno. the punishing drums, deep basses, narrow mids and rattling hats kick ass throughout the track before taking a break for 30 seconds to introduce some melody and continue on mercilessly afterwards. a mean f*cking package!

the one-two kick drum beat that starts “in the dark of the night” functions as a bit of a tease. instead of merely establishing the languid pace of the track, it has the power of suggestion, and its stark nakedness raises the question of what will happen after the music fully launches. a few seconds later, a punch-drunk, flanging keyboard is the first clue that the listener is in for an off-kilter ride, the sauntering bassline that next appears adds a springy, funk bounce. but it’s the tripped-out, multi-tracked vocals of fernando miranda rios, aka michoacan, the producer behind this slow reveal, that give the song its peculiar, space-yvibe. it’s like david byrne with funk aspirations and a vaguely cosmic feel. the b-side remix, courtesy of italy’s clap rules, feels like more of a re-build. the song has been taken apart and put back together with brand new parts. instead of more relaxed, dazed funk at the core, it’s a glittery, disco-ball splattered track with glossy keys all around.

after a 2 and a half year wait i finally managed to knock out a new single. its actually only my 3rd solo single ever. im very happy with it but ive got mixed feelings trying to describe it. you spend a year working on a track and a lazy shop worker or journalist will lump you into the >cosmicbalearicspacewhatever< straightjacket in 2 seconds, i can at least resist to do the same… anyway, two are quite psychedelic and one is some kind of cover version of one of my favourite villalobos trax. as you can hear ive had loads of fun fooling around in the studio playing the bass, percussion, drums(badly) and synths(even worse…)…

two key players of the scene join forces on figures sixteenth release. no one else than adam beyer and luke slater contribute tracks to this very special ep. mod by luke slaters planetary assault systems project takes off with a fast, breathless groove. its force drags the dancers along, and the mesmerizing bleeps put everybody in a deep trance. within seconds, the solid ground of the dancefloor is nothing but a remote memory. mod has a very special aura, it is hard to grasp its exceptional energy. it appears to be pretty elementary, and yet it is an verwhelming techno anthem which will accompany you for quite some time. adam beyers simulated usage surprises the crowd with its elegance and subtlety. forming an irresistible funk, the fabric of the track interweaves various tiny elements. this savageness obviously manifests in his musical approach which can be characterized by his open-mindedness in regard to diverse influences, currents and styles. simulated usage is strong and joyful, it is techno in its best sense. once again, adam beyer und luke slater manage to coin the face of contemporary club music.

todd bodine demonstrates with this ep once again extraordenary taste and skills. after a very successfull excursion on claude van strokes mothership label and his activities as a heavily booked live-act and dj he presents on >unexpected life-form< two brilliant tracks, that seem to burst with their energy. todd bodine apparently has gained a lot of experience how to bunch the impact on both the dancefloor and the musical side and how to turn the result into a wall of sound. and hes doing it by following his own unique style. on the a-side >calypso< captivates you right after a few seconds with its pulsating sequences and a subtle growing energy-level from break to break. developing a drive which wont miss its impact on any floor. >snakeskin< on the flip is homogeneously build around shimmering melody-sequences which create the energy of this track, while the bassline below pulsates warm and deep. sounds like: detroit without kitsch. or like a cross between matthew johnson, robert hood and fabrice lig. to put it in other words: a typical todd bodine release in the best sense. allready a true highlight in the highgradecatalogue in 20

the kazey & bulldog picture disc is followed by the first d2s release from our hero rod lee - a baltimore legend in his own right and in our eyes the no. 1 club producer, bar none. this super aggro dude has serious issues. he just needs to open his mouth and kids cry flames. for his first d2s release, rod commits re-mastered versions of two of our favourite cuts produced by the man. we first heard >understand< when we scored a bunch of scottie bs ebay auctions, and to this day its one of the best baltimore tracks ive ever heard. you can play this sh*t anywhere and the crowd just freaks out. hip hop heads love it, techno heads love it, even your girlfriend loves it. we coupled it with rods simple but ultra effective remix of the eurythmics classic, >sweet dreams<. when the catch an attitude tour dropped in on our club in glasgow, a-trak dropped this beast for all of 30 seconds and people went nuts. bannanas even. you could argue that the eurythmics remix thing is overdone and outdated, but if you did so, wed know for sure you hadnt heard rods version. anyway... we tracked it down and got it on the flip, so really this is more like a double a. both cuts are re-mastered (but still raw like the day they were made) and cut loud on heavy 12inch vinyl

bip soup is the collaboration of two moscow-based electronic producers: andrey zots and petr serkin (dj betatester). the main idea behind the project is the realtime techno improvisation. in studio petr and andrey produce half-finished tracks, which can be controlled in realtime on gigs. extensive usage of nord modular g2 synthesizers helps them in programming unique modular constructions. so the answer on the question what and where appears in a matter of seconds, before the realization of musical or sound ideas begins. therefore each new live gig is a unique performance. different music predilections of duo members allow to vary musical program, which helps not to stay in limits of one music style

the cult label from germany, which is coming back after two years of absence. premature wig is a new house project by kenneth james gibson (apendics. shuffle, eight frozen modules). with the singer lisa fabian he programmed two funky house tracks with bouncing beats and a couple of quirling effects. dancing on gibson`s tracks is like surfing on waves, surfing on a surface, which is changing its smoothness in seconds. the tracks are breathing minimal soul mixed with a specific californian flair. remixes are done by mikael stavöstrand, who produced years ago already for force inc. moscow s dj igor o. vlasov delivers a moving acid mix.
