i d been thinking about starting a label for a few years but it never really seemed like it could work. nowadays there is more coherence in my productions it seems like the right time. i will be releasing music from other artists as well my own stuff - underground house, techno and the rest, stuff with darkness and sexiness. hopefully it is music that will speak to (somebodys) heart as well as their feet. the first release is called no splice no playback and it is two tracks of house music. vinny (flamingo) is a basement thing, suckle (twenties) works in warehouses too. thanks for reading. -mosca

matthew herbert and goldsmiths universitys in-house record label nx records presents the latest in their series of experimental electronic vinyl 12-s. nx14x showcases the work of two boundary pushing goldsmiths students: first, uk born and south africa raised composer galina juritz, whose chopped and spliced rnb doused in lush string arrangements enduces a fidgety unease and zero gravity lushness in equal measure. and second, rising dj and producer harry rodger, with two cuts of organic, summery techno that would sound perfectly at home pumping out of the nts radio speakers into a sun-baked gillett square.

len faki mixes , transparent vinyl , len faki takes on a couple of classics for 007 of his ongoing special edits series lfrmx, striking a perfect balance between the old and new. first up is a tweaked version of steve stolls 1998 lp-excerpt reciproheat, elegantly edged while carrying the proper weight to move. dj shufflemasters booming housedust release from the same year however has a wacky tack to its groove, its mind-bending qualities yet amplified by faki boiling down the tempo to more current confines. the flipside goes all deep, starring a rework of valentino moras recent space odyssey. building upon the originals lively tribal percussion, the prevailent mystical mood is spliced up, readying the track special moments in an otherwise up-tempo-environment. a gently pulsing edit of ubx127s barabrus eventually puts a meditative and soothing finishing touch to the ep. as with all releases of lf rmx, the proceeds of this record will be forwarded to the berlin organization straßenkinder e.v. to be used in actions against child poverty.

for its third volume jongno invites old collaborator and friend of the arts laura ingalls to the fold for more obscure korean edit madness. laura ingalls takes it down a notch with his signature endless dub delays and french touch filters, looping kim wan sun into oblivion on top of 707 daft beats, complete with guitar solo geekiness and spliced out vocals. on side b, mysterious digger and editor jongno edit takes the disco to the max on side a with a tina hwang facelift that will make you do the korean shuffle and back. loaded with bass slapness and disco synth toms this will fit right into the late night boogie and day light workout of anyone with a heartbeat.

these songs were made over the past 2 and a half years by uchi: luna (january 2016), was named after a talking cat. it s kind of a sad story. you will find some synth sounds, three different kick drums, and a couple hi-hats. it s kind of moody. you can take it as it is, or not. pride is poison (july 2014) ironically, it s titled after experiencing dosages of unhealthy relationships, though it might be the one people like the most. it s sad-ish, noisy, bouncie, and bassie? that about sums it up. inc (february 2016) is titled after the international noise conference, where it was recorded. actually it s a 3 part spliced zoom room recording of a 25min long improvisation, made in a punk bar. the argument here holds, is it really worth it to make perfect music? where is the concept of -live- in techno anyways? it doesn t matter. it s just a semi-distorted recording of a moment that meant nothing to almost no one, and yet it lives.

another killer release from the essential re -edits/rarities label moton. number 39 brings us three more obscurities lovingly edited by label head honcho diesel with the funky as hell feels so good leading the ep. kicking off the b side you will find a great latin version of ian dury s wake up, then rounding off the ep is discomora classically cut and spliced to perfection for your dancefloor pleasure

based out of san francisco, extra classic is a unique live band formed with a keen appreciation of vintage reggae & vintage sounds. the aesthetic, and certainly the skilled method of their production, is an ode to the art of that classic style as referenced to the term coined by the cool ruler himself. recording in their own studio, nopal recording, the band employs a taster’s choice of analog equipment and is devotedly tracked, spliced and mixed in-house direct to tape. however, as the group’s name itself implies, there is a dose of something extra and new in this swirling mixture of space echo, heavy phase, and emotive, psychedelic california-soul.
built upon the rock of an early-era dancehall swing, their first single in conjunction with brooklyn-based imprint names you can trust entitled in this life, is a perfect slice of lover’s rock gone sideways, a decidedly left-coast piece of roots and bliss driven by adrianne delanda’s lovely lead vocals and the steady, dusty echoes of the locked in players. presented in the traditional format with a version as per nyct fashion, the dub mix incorporates a soothing dose of synare beams and underwater instrumental dreams.

clouded house 3 is an an ode to the classic splice & dice - nostalgia in a freshly squeezed sleeve. bumping, grindin’ and other forms of expressive dancing are highly encouraged.

urgent’s main man deego fresh delivers the third release on odd music sub-label with a bunch of excellent dj tools with a soul, taking us on a deep and introspective journey while maintaining the drums as sharp and as tight as in the previous outings, characteristic of his inimitable production style. hot material right there.

berlin-based obstacle records returns for its second release with another ep that draws on uk garage heritage while offering its own fresh take via a trio of newer names to watch out for.the ep’s original track comes from lesus - a hitherto unknown name that splices its stripped down ghost-esque rhythmic backbone with an uneasy chiming melody. the a2’s remix from obi - another name to keep track of - retains the pace & 2step stylings of the original while combining it with a chicago house sensibility.on the b side we find two alternate versions from the mysterious prince of ethiopia. the 808 version mutates the track into a old school hip hop instrumental, with the aforementioned 808 sounds to the fore, replete with vocal sampels, record scratches and ray guns. the mt40 version takes those elements, loses the snarling bassline, and pins it all to a broken beat rhythm, once again underlining obstacle’s reverence for uk dance music culture & its desire to push it into surprising new territory.

after 2 revered releases since the turn of the year, weekend circuit return, welcoming alfredo mazzilli for his first ep on the imprint. versatile in sound and challenging in his approach, alfredos invisible entity ep masterfully pushes ambitious ideas with great vigor to an international audience ever more ready to listen. with artists such as donato dozzy, aphex twin, sandwell district, dino sabatini and substance making up a strong part of his most notable influencers, alfredo favours the ambient & deep depths of the dark side of techno. enigmatic and unrestricted, side a starts with alfredo s original invisible entity. a steadily unfolding juggernaut, the emerging energy soon engulfs the entirety of the track, percussian transcending the gloaming synth sound throughout. zadig s beckoning bass and kick drum driven remix will see sonic nods across the club with this four-on-the-floor gristle. statiform region is techno s answer to a cinematic interlude. a testament to alfredos lilting synth ability. no way out kicks off the b side, with a algorithmic tinkering of sonic vs low hits and stabs. rounding up, echologist does what echologist does best a scattershot of intertwined and precarious techno sound, spliced with industrialised power

for the opening ep from too many squares, frank butters manages to gene-splice together the raw dna from all of the ugly-beautiful sounds present in the birth of modern dance music. -conditioning for solitude- is the hum of dark tubes, the slice and hiss of sharp synthesised percussion and the scream of blissful dementia. the mutant that existed for a brief and joyous frozen moment while disco was still birthing house. -body burn” is the tropics with a black sun and africanism with a stopwatch instead of a heart. recalling experimentalist forays by the likes of liaisons dangereuses, patrick cowley and karen finley, the 2 originals on offer manage to recall the raw passion of an era without feeling contrived or derivative. the ep is rounded off by sheila fleurraters remix of * 3 minute warning* which continues the pioneer-ist motif, albeit allying itself with a much more early industrial aesthetic.

whilst its neighbour has always taken the plaudits on the party front the steely city of sheffield has its own house history, with much of it residing in the warm buzzing darkness of the studio. its here that we find our latest robsoul rookie. a fresh name for the label, but a producer who is far from new to the game. tommy vicari jnr’s first release was pressed to the black gold and released back in 2004. since then there have been sporadic outings, but the last two years have seen a reinvigorated tommy roll out over ten new releases and play a huge part in putting sheffield s house music firmly back on the map. threshold of eternity sees tommy drop the northern grit to replace it with shimmering warmth and sunshine vibes across all four tracks. fidgeting rhythms, chopped samples and groove-heavy beats and bass are spliced together to create an essential feel-good release.

nice price deal !!! better strangers is the debut album by manchester based producer acre, set for release by tectonic recordings on 6th november 2015. the album follows eps on both tectonic and sister label cold recordings and visionists pan collaboration label codes. as influenced by rave & jungle, grime and techno as electronica, ambient and drone, his ep releases have been rhythm driven snapshots of other-worldliness spliced with dancefloor sensibilities. acre has sought to explore a wider variety of textures on better strangers to re-contextualise elements from uk bass music, bring them away from the dancefloor and open up new possibilities.

a dead party mix for the lost souls of this world. tony boggs (aka joshua treble) is also known for his collaborations with mitchell akiyama as letters letters on type records and desormais on akiyamas own intr_version label. zero likes was recorded as tony s brother spent his last days in hospice, sampled life support machines and nurses whispers inter-splice hazy drones and jaded lo-fi beats. unfollow zooms in, giving us a dimly lit skeleton, dizzying motorik beats and paranoid textures undulate freely beneath the steady pulse.

after an a-side debut on m_red ltd’s heady 10’’ series, shadowy outfit overall severity return with their first full outing for key vinyl. much like the slabs of steely sonic wares that have paved the way before it, “knowing the healing” presents three works of on-point dance floor material we’ve come to associate with the underground tastemaker. “explain pain” is the ep’s aggravated opener. a pounding kick and itchy percussion unfurls into a din of claps and noises, spliced with melodious peals and a low-slung sort of groove. “backfiring nerves” is one of those cool peak-time weapons: frantic yet subtle, deeply groovy and plied with much-loved vintage crashes. “parasympathetic” then concludes in the form of a chugging basement bomb awash with bleary acid tones, crystal hats and muted dissonant chimes. all in all, “knowing the healing” marks a powerful entry into the ring from these ones-to-watch newcomers.
