the latest release on francis harris scissor & thread is another exercise in subtlety and restraint, brought to us by the emerging talents of nadia khan. with little known about the artist, this release lets the sublime music do the talking. title track ‘in gleam is a beautifully evocative drift into ambient textures - rising pads and occasion bass tones combine to set an exquisite scene. ‘local visit is a collaboration with label boss francis harris, and features some of the trademark submerged rhythm and textures the label has become known for, unfolding its deep structures over the course of the track. ‘restless sees label regular alex albrecht aka melquíades (whose previous ep on s&t was received warmly) provide the last bells remix - again muted tones and rhythmic complexity glide under ethereal piano fragments and slowly evolving pad washes. ‘sorting through finds its groove early, a deadened kick unfolds into an urgent percussion creating a thick atmosphere of melancholia. ‘sunburnt rounds out the physical release - ending how it started - with dreamy, smudged tones, and warm pads.

elegant universe a full-length album by matthew hayes and joel trigg is a must listen for fans of the celestial jazz sound of ecm. their soft, seductive duets are incredibly inviting, in a way that seems to encompass and enliven the space around you. unsurprisingly, itd be sure to add warmth to cold winter commutes, and dull the edge of even the fiercest hangovers. the wintry downtime is a tour de force of the duos sense of restraint and the importance placed on individual sounds that swell together and drift apart with organic ease. on light through edinburgh leaves, the sounds themselves seem so three-dimensional, ringing out like ripples on a lake. its hard not to be captivated by such beautifully formed music.

for the inaugural release on tilt, faerber presents 070717, a four-track package of spiralling techno due 03.09.2018. as a joint venture from hamburgs renowned pal nightclub and berlin-based dj/producer faerber, tilt will serve as a platform for a range of experimental artists to present their work without restraint. 070717 is a disorienting trip through four swirling cuts, brandishing references to electro, industrial and ambient whilst permeating warmth through vast concrete structures. the title of this first release - a reference to the date of the g20 summit in hamburg last year - represents a period of instability for both the nightclub and faerber, who is a booker and resident dj there. ongoing heavy police presence outside its front doors resulted in a lack of visitors, so much so that the future of the venue became uncertain. despite a series of obstacles linked to the highly controversial political summit, pal continued to throw parties, eventually reaching a point of stability through sheer dedication and a focus on experimental bookings. now, after a slight delay, they are ready to launch their own imprint. 070717 is the soundtrack to resistance against all odds. vital sales points: - first single from faerber (pal) - releases on tilt - extensive global promo by tailored communications - releaseparty at pal on september first.

this one has been a long time coming. great 12”s never get shelved at lddlm, time is not the essence. benedikt frey has been part of the extended family since his remix of car’s idle eyes and we crossed paths a few times at robert johnson in frankfurt. init, his project with his other half nadia d’alò, has seen releases on neighbours such as hivern or correspondant, our door was naturally open to their pretty personal brand of “off-kilter techno” as ra says. stereometric is almost a definition of init’s acid mind. failing their own tricks, heavy atmosphere and unusual restraint. nuts is almost an instrumental extension of the title track, when your head finally hit that window pane. wheels slows the rush down, wandering on an imaginary khyber pass. this is only deception though, mindwork being a real exercise in post-goa trance. hope you enjoy the trip. see you after the summer.

scottish producer & dj graeme clark aka the revenge releases his second album ‘when the thrill comes’ on his own roar groove imprint on 11th may 2018. ‘when the thrill comes’ is a demonstration of a producer achieving a point of maturity in their work, able to exercise a sense of restraint, to allow for their sound to have space. it is also the opportunity for the revenge to explore his own electronic music roots with a deeper pared-back sound more in touch with his earliest production experiences in house and techno.

magnetik north is live drum electronics. drum performances are fed through processors, samplers and sequencers to produce layers of rhythmic patterns that interact with each other. other instruments are melted into different textures so that only the harmonic content remains. this is a new project from ian tregoning, engineer and producer for artists as diverse as yello and fela kuti. now working with jaki liebezeit, the legendary drummer from can, to add his endless evolving rhythms. jaki s in a world of his own as he balances technical brilliance with subtle restraint. recording started in the summer 2006 in an old jazz studio in the south of ko&#776,,,,ln. jaki arrived with a minimal drum kit including customised cymbals, a snare and a huge gretsch floor-tom from the can days. all of jaki s performances are complete takes with no drop-ins, loops or edits. the backing tracks for evolver were recorded without using key changes. each song features one key which is held continuously while other instruments and effects are blended with the key. drums (also tuned to the same key) were added last which is another unusual technique. as jaki says they re often overlooked as tuned instruments in their own right . the finished results are a minimal blend of industrial and classical. like listening to a raga in an earthquake.

fresh from his and elizabeth wights widely supported pale blue debut on crosstown rebels, new jersey renaissance man mike simonetti returns to correspondant with a touching cyclical trip.fuelled by emotion thanks to an on-point sample of a barbed spoken word, i love you mom is characterised by shimmering hypnotic cathedral cascades that fully arrest the senses. symmetrically bookended by the equally overwhelming i love you dad, where the same chords and sample take a much darker acidic trip, simonetti also treats us to the icy ricochet subversions of the chime-binding riser lets go for a walk and the purring electroid bass prowler no gods, no masters along the way. pregnant with restraint and well-tempered emotions but knowing exactly when to pop, its another certified odyssey from the perennial troubleman. feel the love.

after bringing kangaroo skull and cale sexton to light on previous releases, temporal cast once again provides a platform for lesser known talent with this, their third release. born in italy and based in australia, this release marks a big milestone for her. pulsar is a subtle and refined opening gambit, using a reduced set of cyclical rhythms and draping distant pad notes over the top of it for a perfect exercise in techno elegance. moebius is at the other end of the spectrum, all bloated drums and cavernous reverb decays creating a monolithic atmosphere. anomaly meanwhile maximises on negative space, using a dry drum palette and keeping things firmly submerged the whole ep is a masterclass of restraint and control.

on opulence s second release the label welcomes grammy nominated artist james teej with his the only constant ep. inspired by his budding years djing, james revisits his early house influences and delivers two powerful cuts of disco infused grooves laced with an overall contemporary touch. the first track the only constant is change is a highly infectious dance floor number reminiscent of classic filtered disco house, arranged with a patient and contemporary restraint. the tracks hypnotic and repetitive nature draws the listener in, and keeps the attention throughout with subtle changes that slowly grow to a tasteful and rewarding climax. on remix duties opulence has invited apollonias house music legend dan ghenacia who delivers a slick deep house rework that keeps the vibes intact of the original with the french artist s signature groovy machine touch. already road tested over the summer at dc10, dan s remix helps bring the original to a place closer to the clubs dance floor. the 3rd and final song is life goes on, a grooving disco infused classic deep house cut that features no regular plays greg paulus on trumpet. the song perfectly blends the sounds of yesterday with a modern touch and feel, and provides an uplifting soundtrack for any dance floor, especially those magic moments outdoors on the beach. once again, james continues to show his passion and diversity in his music with this expertly crafted ep that will surely be a welcomed addition to any house lover s record collection.

p.e.a.r.l. is no stranger to the weekend circuit inner circle. having released his desolation ep on the london label in 2015, his unique and refreshing productions slot comfortably in to the label s sonic aesthetic. pulsating, submerged field recordings and natural sounds bristle next to menacingly hewn tones, rhythms and textures, creating a strange and disorientating environment across 4 parts. ep opener body arched i encapsulates this alien-esque landscape, beckoning us into the p.e.a.r.l. sound-world. slowly unwinding drones gradually draw us in, layers of almost synthetic jungle sounds, field recordings and eerie atmospherics create images of unseen landscapes in our minds. one gets the impression that is merely the calm before the storm, it will be a long, dark and revealing night. second part body arched ii ups the ante considerably, a blistering assault on the senses. cavernous kick-drums dance with repeated synth lines and synewaves creating a narcotic, unforgiving and swirling miasma of epic proportions. body arched iii opens the second side of this formidable slab of vinyl. the energy levels are still high, the mood somewhat foreboding. unapologetic, urgent and oozing kinetic energy this 3rd movement continues on a journey that will sweep you deeper into the blackest night, all systems failed, flying blind. in the right hands a piece like this can wield colossal power. the fourth and final part of body arched taps into a more psychedelic vein, a minimalistic mantra-esque piece that continually spirals to the very outer edges of restraint. listen closely and you can hear the shamans feet kicking up dust in the clearing. a pensive and sparse piece and the perfect note on which p.e.a.r.l. will leave us bewildered.

house music broke through in 1987, at the same time when aids arrived in france with the first contamination peak in gay and drug addict circles. in 1989, the founders of act-up paris knew that both the fight against aids and triumphant house music should be joined together. from 1992 to 1995, the period covered by “120 bpm-, house reached its most beautiful plateau even though techno was becoming dominant. “120 bpm” is a get-together moment through clubbing, this moment where fears are forgotten by dancing with one’s friends, what we called “the chosen family” at act-up. boys and girls dancing in a club where the walls cannot be seen, flooded with simple light. this is their activist recess. arnaud rebotini, composing the soundtrack of robin campillo’s previous film, “eastern boys-, is a recognized dj, a composer and a kind man, which is for me the most important quality. here, his work is marked by restraint of his love for house and after techno. i believe he deliberately withdrew himself in relation to the film’s power and the aids theme

swiss-based, jamaican producer ezikiel returns to cadenza for his another outing, this time dropping the tales of roots ep. with this new ep he demonstrates his flair for the musical side of club compositions, imbibing his productions with sultry atmospherics, deep emotion and organic keys and strings. the title track tales of roots is a 15-minute opus, which unravels slowly but surely, working from a soft yet persistent bassline and a hypnotic rhythm. samples of tribal singers add a distinct human element, entrancing you with their organic vibrations. as the voices continue to sing out you’re transported to a vibrant sub- saharan landscape, captivated by the irresistible guitar riff on the flip we have makha poetry, a more experimental workout with a variety of warped and twisted effects spluttering and wobbling away at its foundation. the jaunty yet slightly eerie low end gives this track a naughty allure, as those strange bleeps and whirrs continue to bounce in and out of the background. theres a controlled restraint about makha poetry which gives it a devastating simplicity and a very unique aesthetic.

70% deal , last copies left.... sascha braemer s first record on dirtybird was a very big success gathering support from a wide array of djs. as our very first german artist, we were very happy when he sent over this super hot follow-up ep. true to dirtybird style both tracks on the ep are thematic, but these also show some restraint, not getting too silly or gimmicky with the themes. grounded in heavy funk kick drum grooves, sascha has delivered another set of bombs for sure. the train grows from a simple solid groove to a massive whistling peak, then back to the deep rooted funk. fly flip is a play on bug sounds, bringing a more laid back vibe to the table. both of the tracks are the kind of thing that could be played in any set from techno to deep house which really says a lot for the universal appeal of sascha s solid beats. we hope you enjoy them as much as we do.

as summer peaks, we bring you the brand new series watergate remixes where standout tracks from our discography are remixed and retouched by some of our favorite artists. kicking off the first installment we have matthias meyer and jimi jules stepping up to deliver their twist on two big tunes from heavy-hitters butch and henrik schwarz. first up is matthias remix of butchs cosmic tale shahrzad, and he dishes out a truly timeless piece of dance floor euphoria. with his trademark organic groove and lush swirling pads meyer guides us through a heavenly journey into the distant reaches of sonic elation. on the flip side, jimi jules brings his a-game with a revision of henrik schwarz classic words in return by demonstrating an incredibly mature restraint of precise and calculated efforts resulting in an enchanting trip of dreamy aural pleasures.

things have been heating up on lee burridge’s smouldering get weird label in the last year. picking up serious momentum with a consistent flow dispatches from the likes of dance spirit, hauy, superlounge, tim green and more, each release has been a startling jolt from the all-too-comfortable road-middle into more diverse, uncharted pastures deep in the sweet spot between house, techno and electronica. this next release from brand new artist kaled is certainly no exception. get weird? get to know… tunisian kaled shows depth, range and rudiments beyond his early-man status. a deep musical spirit with a penchant for poignancy, taste for theatre and strong sense of restraint, there’s a timeless evocative feel running throughout each of these three unhurried, subtly-orchestrated gems. ‘the field & the sun’ sets the scene, a palpitating progressive beat is laced with strident string strikes that build layer upon layer, creating a cushion for a goosebump-inducing late-entering piano line. ‘nemo’, meanwhile, finds itself in the midst of another swooning set of strings. ignited by a percussive pebbledash and leading with the distinctive middle eastern instrumentation, the backbone is maintained by a devilishly simple and hypnotic synth riff that holds everything together

inspired by a dreamy sabbatical in western kenya, ‘warthog’ is a slice of lush organic house oozing with classy restraint. this sleeper hit is finally getting its due in the limelight after a limited run of dubplates sold like butter in 2013 - with two heavy-weight remixes from finnish producer-legend jori hulkkonen and rising deep house star saine. driving, balearic and pleasantly euphoric the record is rounded off by a bumping 4/4 groove featuring none other than tapani rinne on bass clarinet. com-007 is a vinyl-only release, limited to 200 copies worldwide.

a year after his extremely versatile debut ep for figure, viers comes out with another batch of tunes that again set him apart from his peers both in production value and creativeness. touching on the tropes of classic detroit techno, saxton presents a beautifully delicate opening track, rife with life from within the machines while still steadily thumping ahead. it’s the mix of this vital momentum together with a certain restraint, allowing each element to breath. so much that even the slightest adjuments cause maximum effectmetro, as felt on suitably titled stomper nothing changed where everything hits in exactly the right place. same goes for the incessant dialogue of tones on zehn, which sigha expands into a pensive piece, layering soothing washes of synths. not only an exceptional ep in its own right, figure 85 further cements viers as a skilled craftsman with seemingly endless imagination.

following the first chapter of andy mac sdiving birdseries, idle hands welcomes italian producer piezo into the fold with an ep that harks back to the smoky, dubwise ambience of some of the label s earliest releases. luca mucci was a bristol resident for a few years before returning to his native milan, carving out an identity for his piezo alias with a slew of dubstep-focused eps on labels such as artikal music and subaltern. while on an idle hands skirmish stateside and playing on ny radio, one of the kelly twins dropped lume and remarked on how idle it sounded, sparking the process that led to this record. you can sense a link the early kowton records on ep opener opeq, all monochromatic textures and taut, slow-stalking rhythms, but here those facets are interspersed with a unique melodic elegance that offsets the moody immersion of the track, eventually blooming out into an effervescent slice of slow-motion house music. novemiluano meanwhile displays muccis capabilities in handling broken beats, exercising a devastating restraint without compromising on presence or energy in crafting a stunning piece of meditative soundsystem music. pushing that foundational dub principle of space and minimalism even further, lume closes the record out in stunning style with an intimate, glacial stepper that champions minute detail as much as looming gaps in the sound. with a peppering of micro sampling atop a deathly bassweight march, its a finely pointed arrow aimed right at the heart of idle hands, and we couldn t be happier to be releasing it.

too many possibilities can also mean a tyranny of the what if.... in this light, celebrating less becomes vital. and thats exactly what swedish producer and studio barnhus affiliate simon haydo does in redux. all of the sounds in the albums nine tracks come from just one synth: the korg ms20. as simon puts it, the idea was to maximize the use of less, basically. less gear, less effects, less input from other people , less everything.using only between 2 and 6 channels for every track, the result is a stripped but surprisingly rich sound, that delineates spatial techno vignettes coated with the unmistakable charac- ter of the ms20 filters. even more interestingly, this restraint is not only applied gear-wise, but also from an emotional point of view. instead of involving my own feelings, i let the voice of the ms20 take care of it, says simon. all this makes redux an expression of techno in its purest form. after all, its a kind of music that has always gravitated around simplicity, austerity and, of course, the believe that the machines have their own soul.

adam port and jimpster have had a special kind of ‘virtual’ relationship the last few years with a mutual respect for each others productions and output of their respective labels. keinemusik, which adam runs alongside rampa, &me and reznik, has grown into one of the most consistent and hottest out there right now with every release creating a big splash and bringing magic to so many dancefloors around the world. adam recently remixed jimpster’s eel pie island to devastating effect bringing his own deep, late night atmospherics to the original and creating one of 2016’s underground hits in the process. so now we’re very pleased to welcome adam port (alongside legendary uk artists stereo mc’s) for a full release on freerange in the form of changes. opening the release we have adam’s own remix which sets the tone with a subtle and gently building groove providing the perfect backdrop for the stereo mc’s esoteric vocal. this lesson in restraint shows why adam’s productions work so well on big systems, letting all the focus shine firmly on the vocal creating an intense atmosphere with not a single huge breakdown in sight! next up we have the original of changes which takes a more electro approach with a simple bassline and crisp hats and once again allowing the vocal space to take centre stage for a deep and memorable track with a message. finally we have a remix from our own jimpster opts to push in a completely different direction. shuffling up the groove and laying down a repeating rhodes riff we’re treated to an altogether more soulful and less stark version making the perfect compliment to the the package. this one makes us think of his remix of osunlade’s momma’s groove which is no bad thing we feel! enjoy!

mannheim duo ho do ri s lost in betty s ford is an exercise in restraint with the ep delving into the deeper realms of house music. elotrans kick things off with its shuffling percussion lending the track more of a jacking vibe. high level boost ups the energy whilst still retaining a distinctly left field vibe whilst k for the models delves into murkier realms in a superbly wonky way. back problems rounds things off with a sub-aquatic ride reminiscent of baby ford at his most coherent.

marco bernardi, a british producer with quite a flamboyant personality is no stranger to the burek family. having already released an excellent 2-part 12 series titled laffer ep for barba last year, it couldve been expected that hed appear on the mothership at some point. as on those two records, theres plenty of synth action going on, although with a little bit more restraint and less roughness.

manchester native alex coulton has nurtured a reputation for creating sub-heavy rollers thanks to 12”s for the likes of black acre, livity sound and bloc. with gamma ray burst, the next in his series of releases on london low-end specialists tempa, coulton consolidates his sound to deliver some of the most sparse, rhythmic work of his career. with the record’s title track, coulton weaves from hard-hitting kicks, through to dizzying tribal polyrhythms the whole time maintaining a minimal, space driven atmosphere that remains omnipresent throughout the track’s most intense moments. ‘ground zero’ revels in its spaciousness, allowing reverb to flood into the negative space between flashes of heavyweight techno percussion and saturated ripples of synth while the pulsating kicks that underpin ‘alpha decay’ are punctuated with bleak, discordant bells, rhythmic bass hits and hypnotic filtered percussion. showing his diverse abilities, ‘phase two’ is an exercise in measured restraint, as a cacophony of clicks and hisses come together to disorientate before forming a driving rhythm section before coulton maximises his expansive elements on the fog-tinged ‘ascent’. closing with the steady flowing, brighter-hued melodic work of ‘distant resonance’, alex coulton has created a masterful collection of experimental tech-focused electronica that bewilders, intrigues and will draw the listener in with each play.

nicetraxuk strides with confidence to its fourth release with some grade a producers on board to confirm the label s position as a trusted outpost for upfront club tackle. moodymanc is on fine form on -where s the story?- dropping an expressive set of drums in a crafty broken beat funk as submerged chords play out and an unnamed source waxes lyrical about stories in house tracks. lil mark meanwhile links up with jcub for -epic 40,- a seriously stripped down club workout that maximizes on finger clicking and moody bass in a flawless demonstration of restraint.

edna wright’s idiosyncratic “oops!” is one of the most sublime vocal refrains in soul music history. anchoring its host album’s leadoff cut, it sets the tone for a uniquely satisfying modern soul lp. indeed, whilst many of its ilk come laden with filler, wright’s one solo record is an exercise in elegant restraint, a concise killer. officially licensed and beautifully remastered for vinyl by celebrated engineer simon francis, it has been pressed on audiophile 180g vinyl for the first time and features the original iconic artwork. each copy includes a printed inner sleeve with a sumptuous black & white photo, full lyrics and heartfelt notes from edna herself.

damien lynch enjoys countryside a drive in the twilight hour. this is his second offering for the esp institute. on side a, brunette opens with a straight-ahead techno thump of hi-hats and a pulsating 16th-note bassline—a subtle playing field composed solely with a rare 1970’s italian machine, the godwin drummaker 32, unearthed from the secret back room of a music shop in rural ireland where it hid among wonderful vintage russian synths and oddball electronics. this elegant track drips with warm and phasing pads, gentle staccato keys and beautifully simple arpeggios that blur every now and then—all affirming damien’s less-is-more ideology. with side b’s forced relax, damien continues to exercise his restraint, arranging his instruments in a band-like fashion, affording each player the sonic space to project their individual qualities whilst supporting an overall dialogue. there is a soft ebb and flow to every machine’s role, whether the swelling of bass or the interplay of percussive keys, but when these characters arrive in one place, the result is a tranquil euphoria. these two songs will accept you for who you truly are.
