we are officially under exclusive rights reissuing a very special privetly pressed 45, -silver satin- by axis. originally released back in 1984, axis was a short-lived band formed in california by guitar player/vocalist byron bordeaux. back in 80s, record was never officially distributed, with only a couple of hundred 45s made, and sold exclusively at their shows. byron recorded a good deal of demo tracks, which for the next 30 years would go unreleased, all stuck on a pile of 8-track and cassette tapes. you can find one of these tracks on the flipside of this 7- - -runaway love- was completely recorded and performed by byron circa 1986. following the band s dissolution, byron continued performing, eventually ending up playing alongside the likes of bobby womack, buddy miles and the gap band. fast forward three decades later, -silver satin- is a sought after record on the collectors market that when found, goes for triple figures on ebay, discogs and the like. heavy support from jeremy underground as played live at dimensions 2016.

this is an official reissue of what am i gonna do for fun by the band pitch (1982 - new york city). this release also includes a fantastic remix or rework by tolouse low trax (toresch, salon des amateurs, düsseldorf). a few words from stuart shape, the producer: feels like it was done by another person. i remember getting the serge synthetiser to stay in tune was always a problem. we were fascinated with the new sampling that were just coming out, and kind of got carried away on the vocals. not sure what i was thinking about with the lyrics, guess maybe trying to figure out what i was supposed to be doing when i wasnt working or playing music unfortunately no other finished tracks from that era have survived. they recorded a lot, but finished and saved very little.

medical records presents its second contemporary artist release with roladex. imagine kraftwerk playing steven merritt songs. using an arsenal of analog instruments, roladex nostalgically borrows ideas from music of the past to carefully craft a unique brand of futuristic-mechanized pop, with an emphasis on songwriting and layered production. weaving sparse, sequenced arpeggios into fuzzy bass and bubbly melodies to create a bed of sound where they layout a somehow bright melancholia.

to support his just released alien artform album, delsin puts out the 2nd dimension 5 12. this 3 tracker continues where the lp version left us: 3 brand new tracks (only network was released on cd only). this one comes for the dancefloor. it opens with dark city, an haunting, melodic 4-floor techno track with those old skool drum sounds. dope! the b-side holds 2 tracks in the same vein, where music box film-esque, like derrick may used to do, and gradually builds up. network is a more soulful tracks, playing around with some nice synths and reminds of old insync / irdial stuff.

hot city is dropping some severely skewed house music, twisting it up with his own blend of jackin chicago house, 2step/ukg, and bass bumpers. with only two tracks sent out to a handful of the finest djs around in the past few months, he s secured two gigs playing out at wifey, certainly the most fun club in london at the moment, and managed to generate a fair amount of hype already:

the tracks on this new 12 inch build on the momenetum, with two tracks of stripped down dancefloor killers - >yeah!< is a monster builder, all todd edwards style swing and tight edits with crazy deep kicks, chopped up vocals, old school piano stabs, soaring strings, and hands in the air breakdowns. already being played out by drop the lime (check his latest exclusive mix for fact magazine where he opens his set with >yeah!<). >head work< on the b side is on more of a masters at work/harddrive era tip - deep garage beats tripping over themselves, burbling oddity synths, shuffling snares and the weirdest vocal melody breakdown/build-up ever!

a temporary sabbatical from gigs was taken and the band wrote material for where were you when it happened in new orleans midtown district, where their rawboned compositions resembled the katrina-pummeled surroundings. with their girlfriends with them in as close to a stableenvironment as they d been in months, they were able to tap a darker, more personal side in songs like as noise, and hunt you down, with its mournful, organ drenched air belying monotonixs typical good time charlie posturing, while fulfilling the albums need for a climactic, balladic moment. where were you when it happened? finds monotonix visiting a greater diversity of places within their sound while still retaining their minimal appeal. mostly though, where were you when it happened works up a sweat with raw rock and roll, acid guitar licks and riffs, screaming choruses and, in general, the wildness of monotonix in a way that makes for repeated album listening (and pummelling). where most bands refine their production sound as they go forward, monotonix have reverse refined themselves, playing dirtier and more energetic to capture the lightning they are known for.

jamaican born and miami based producer stryke mashes up the electronic dance music scene for a long time with numerous releases on labels like ovum, hooj choons , monoid, circle, guidance, platform or twisted. he collaborated with artists like murk, christian smith, john beltran, santos and alex flatner just to name a few. he started playing classical piano at the age of four and explored synthesizer, techno and djing in his youth at the age of 12 and 14.

monotonix are a punk trio from tel aviv. they formed in november 2005, set up on the floor of the club with the audience, and the party began. but the party usually got too wild, the power got cut, the cops were called and monotonix were banned from playing again almost everywhere. before long, they were looking for good places to play outside of israel - and they were delighted to find that there are more rock and roll party places outside of israel than inside! today, monotonix are the hardest working rock band in the world. sure, lots of other bands work up a sweat, but monontonix are definitely the only band who puts in the kind of miles they do, and they rock rings around pretty much the rest of us too. these guys do two different shows in two different towns on the same day whenever they can manage it. but thats only the tip of the hard working iceberg. body language sounds almost like a monotonix show. the only thing you cant hear is the sound of your heart beating in your ears after having been chased around the room by a vocalist with his pants literally on fire, then getting dousedwith beer and dancing your ass off to the guitar riffage, then ending it all by carrying the drummer around on your shoulders while a few other guys hold his kit up so he can keep drumming. you dont end up quite as out of breath when listening body language, but you do get a ton of excitement anyway, courtesy of a killer guitar sound, precision power drumming and lusty lead vocals. they recorded body language with tim green (of the fucking champs) at louder studios in san francisco. it twists and grooves with all the fun and fervor of great rock and roll.

attempting to pigeonhole 79.5 into something as narrow as a single genre would be an ill advised, if not impossible task. the new york city band sounds like someone spinning a radio dial with such passionate intensity that all the stations blend together into a single, transcendent, almost spiritual force. its disco to the beat of modern house, its a supremes cover of a cardi b banger, its roland kirk playing jazz through one saxophone, funk through another, and the most earwormy pop tune the 1970s could muster through a third. its an experience one so effecting that with only a self-released 12inch single in circulation, 79.5 had been written up twice in the new yorker on the merit of their live sets alone. their debut album predictions is produced by leon michels and was recorded at the diamond mine in queens the old school way, with the whole band playing the songs in one take and captured to analog tape.

inits music has the rare quality of transforming bleakness into a soothing experience. in the duos new ep, wildcard, this mechanism is more intense than ever. and that might be because of the particular circumstances that surrounded its inception. two years ago, nadia dalo and benedikt frey decided to move from darmstadt to berlin. adjusting to a rough area of a big city when coming from a quiet town necessarily brings a change of perspective. for nadia and benedikt, that meant experiencing the city life as outsiders while trying to figure out what they wanted from it.wildcard is the sonic result of this process, and proof that changes always bring growth. recorded in their new home studio during winter, the six tracks on the ep are as haunting as their previous lp for hivern, but with a rawer approach and enhanced power. take cover and solver, an approximation to the kind of moody psych-techno they display in their live-shows and two of the most dance floor oriented tracks init have recorded to date. but its the title track which best expresses the mindset of this work. with its skeletal rattle and undulating synths, wildcard feels as desolate as a berlin street in a winter night, but possesses the kind of focus that turns uncertainty into hope. in a similar way, cuts such as copycat or half baked perfectly capture the sort of estrangement -daunting yet hopeful- that comes when moving into a new place, with its slow tempos mirroring the cautious pace of a foreigner and the intoxicated atmospheres calmly distilling the essence of a new environment. nadia and benedikt describe this new habitat as small kids on big bikes, eating dry instant noodles, playing with whats to find on the streets, static aircraft traffic closely over our heads and constant running engines. listening to the music that arose from it, its obvious that, once again, they&# 39,ve been able to overturn apparently hostile elements into a place were youd want to stay forever

jamie jones joins forces with new york’s david berrie for an electrifying two track release on hot creations. doctor zouk is the result of a friendship spanning many years, and is set to be unleashed this autumn. title track doctor zouk is a bumpy, chuggy roller with a prominent percussive break and heady tribal undertone. future society uses thumping drum pads over a growling bassline with unmistakable high hats weaved together over futuristic synths. jamie jones is one of the industry’s most in demand and recognised djs. he heads up one of ibiza’s most treasured parties, paradise at dc10, and now takes it to all corners of the globe. his revered hot creations imprint has put out more than one hundred releases as well as playing a major part in launching the careers of patrick topping, richy ahmed and detlef. spending his formative years in new york, sneaking into the city’s diverse and flamboyant nightclubs and heavily influenced by a broad spectrum of genres, it wasn’t long before david berrie took to the turntables. he released on jones’ hottrax label last year and has had a number of releases on nervous and monique sp é ciale. he commands regular slots at bpm festival as well as at the paradise nights.

after being one of the many standouts on the we are opilec…! vol. iii compilation back in 2016, i-robots glamouflage is now getting a full vinyl release with artwork by tomozo kevorkian, who was designer for nyc s body & soul, and remixes by a standout team of producers from japan to switzerland to south africa and the usa. opening up the ep is a fantastic new take ii version from label boss i-robots, who added exclusive chinese vocal samples recorded on the streets of huang jiang city many years ago. the track is inspired by ennio morricone and supermax and is a loose and infectious groove with brilliant drums and percussion and an elastic bassline that really gets you moving. it s a subtle update to the original—also included here as a bonus cut—which itself is a steamy and tropical sounding groove. swiss electronic pioneer schaltkreis wassermann then features on a version of the original that reaches for the cosmos with its rugged bass riffs, tumbling toms and busy, ever evolving groove. it has a big breakdown with exotic synths wandering through the night and oodles of effects and big guitar licks. the first of the remixes comes from kuniyuki takahashi who has been a big supporter of i-robots since 2000. he is a sound designer from japan who had a compilation of his works put out by music from memory back in february. his version is laden with cosmic synths and chants, grunting and organic drums and is sure to be massive this summer thanks to its open air vibes. detroit s underrated but vital gary martin is the boss of the teknotika label and his version featuring colten decker playing an unusual sax line shows another side to the motor city. it s a curious and mysterious tune that makes for an unsettling atmosphere that keeps you locked throughout as it snakes along.

when harold boue aka abstraxion invited fantastic man into his studio after playing together the night before he didnt knew he was planting the seed for a new project. as he recalls, it was a day of intense sun in marseille with not enough sleep, but the result was so great that it inspired harold to work on new tracks around the idea of creating music to reflect his city: a bit rough, but luminous and influenced by elements of mediterranean, african and northern european cultures. this has translated into a heavily percussive sound, in which tribal disco grooves invoke the spirits of voodoo-techno. three cuts driven by warmly distorted rhythms, bursts of primitive drums, rubbery synths and uplifting chants that overall feel like the first sunrays after an excursion through a dark cave: both blinding and blissful. the projects name is a tribute to the astrological sign of harolds son, who was born at the same time as the music on the ep. it was the definitive signal he needed to convince himself it was the right time to start something new and different. and an event that for sure helps understanding the vibes that this music transmits: as pure, fresh and powerful as only a new beginning can be.

following some now cult releases on mutli culti, turbo recordings (with the much-acclaimed “mz”) and his recent lp “lotos land” on japanese imprint endless flight, our favourite east-berlin born child sascha funke is finally coming up with an ep on hippie dance’s sister label your and your hippie friends. “i guess more than one of you have noticed my obsession with sascha funke’s music over the past years since it is an essential part in my dj sets. after the pause he gave his solo work to put his attention into his amazing band project saschienne together with julienne dessagne (aka fantastic twins, also his partner in life), he came back with a really cool ep on kompakt records which i played over and over and left me wanting for more. being close friends gave me the luxury of having access to his material before other people and when i would visit the coolest couple in berlin, sascha would always play me his new tunes in the car while rolling through the city. every time i would ask for those tracks to play them and in the club, people that i would play with would often ask who was behind them, as it happened with tiga one night in cologne, and eventually led to sascha’s music being released on turbo recordings and multi culti the following months. now i finally got the chance and honour to release a sascha funke ep on our own humble label... acatenango. like every time, it all started with me visiting berlin, sascha playing his new material while cruising around on board of his german car, me getting in trance while listening to it, asking for it and playing it right away in my next sets. three super cool tracks, all very different from each other but somehow connected with the inimitable funke touch. powerful yet elegant, hypnotic yet fun, brutal yet sophisticated. sascha funke... he’s a hippie and he’s a friend.” rebolledo

jaars other people is pleased to present a new solo record of guitar and live custom electronics artist patrick higgins, an american avant-garde composer and producer from new york city. higgins is known for his work in experimental and contemporary classical music, playing guitar and composing in the mythical avant-noise-jazz ensemble zs. his solo work as a composer unites european avant-garde forms with the post-minimalist howl of new york. his upcoming release on other people, dossier, is a four-movement piece performed live without overdubs or edits. all of the samples and synthetic patches were custom built and specifically engaged to become elements of live guitar manipulation. the sound world is post-apocalyptic in spirit but builds to an intimate and reflective end. the material was developed over a two-year period and finalized at the end of 2016. cover art is by alfredo jaar.

for our second ep, we are shifting from manila, philippines, to our other home city, bangkok, the thai kingdom’s capital. hailing from here is dott, one of three founders of more rice, a truly home grown bangkok electronic producer, dj and the talent behind mah noi ep. dott already has a number of releases under his belt and is now a regular on the asian circuit, playing gigs around the region. at 26 years old this is quite impres- sive and we are very proud to be releasing his first pressed record under more rice.
mah noi ep embodies dott’s sound, which is deep, driven and moody, whilst keeping an organic twist throughout and clearly inspired by his home country, the key to setting the release apart and making it tasty for more rice. the careful and precise placement of vintage thai samples gives it that extra flavour and mystery that can engulf the listeners and dancers, whilst the remix by eric volta truly transports you to another dimension.

ben jacobs aka crackazat first made a name for himself when he was still living in bristol and released on ep on the city s futureboogie label, which has also signed music from the likes of julio bashmore, crazy p and outboxx. early in his career crackazat was also the official warm up act for an at the time up and coming artist called floating points, who now needs no introduction as one of the world s leading electronic music producers. moving to sweden shortly after the futureboogie release, crackazat made contact with the local talk owners mad mats and tooli, and after a couple of single/ep releases signed his debut solo album crescendo. the last couple of years crackazat has had an explosion of global popularity, which has led to playing gigs all over the world, and releasing tracks and remixes on labels ranging from josh wink s ovum, joey negro s z records and eureka in japan. classically trained with a strong jazz influence, crackazat has a distinctively individual sound that fuses funk with soulful vocals and the electronic bass music associated with his former home of bristol. eloquent and intelligent, rainbow fantasia is a masterpiece that showcases one of electronic music s most exciting talents.

the copenhagen based pop wonders blaue blume return with a new ep - sobs. the band formed around 6 years ago in a provincial danish town, drawn to each others love for rich, playful music. blaue blume (blue flower) is the epitome of a romantic band, their songs are brimming with love and yearning. now ‘sobs, the follow up to their ‘syzygy album in 2015, continues to build their reputation as a best kept secret, about to find a whole new audience of devotees. all four tracks for the ep were recorded in late 2016 in a three story villa, formerly owned by a religious cult. the band used the weird space away from the city to create a framework for the lyrics and the music. the band explains: blaue blume has been our band for about 6 years. in a bigger provincial town we started playing right out of highschool. at the moment we live in copenhagen and every day we play, write and work on sounds. its sort of become a life project. in our heads we make music that is playful, rich in detail and popish or somewhat smiling. for some beautifully inexplicable reason we ended up doing music together. in a way it seems sacred or at least meaningful. macabre is a happy song about being afraid of dying. some of us find that even the best life can be lonely sometimes. we found it interesting to address this taboo within the frame of a song that people could potentially dance or sing along to.

casino shanghai was a -techno-pop- band started in the mid-80s in mexico city. they released their debut and only album -film- in december of 1985. an album considered today as cult status. casino shanghai were part of a great cultural change in mexico and its music scene. the band made various controversial appearances on tv when a band without a drummer or guitarist was unheard of. all members had been in different notorious bands in the local scene. ulalume was the lead singer of the casuals (punk-new wave) and denseundergrowth (avant-garde). carlos robledo and walter schmidt were part of size (post-punk) and have been playing together for many years in decibel (experimental). humberto alvarez played with mcc (prog rock) and is currently a well-known musician and multi-instrumentist. before the band split-up they recorded two last songs in 1986, -le tombeau d edgar poe- and -l action minimal-, as part of an unreleased solo ep for ulalume. these tracks were edited in 2014 on 12&#8243,,, by mannequin records together with a remix by in aeternam vale. the music of casino shanghai was also used for the soundtrack of some mexican films. -crónicas de familia- directed by diego lópez and nominated for the ariel award for best original soundtrack in 1986, and -juana la cantinera- directed by josé loza. -film- has been restored and remastered for this new edition including all original tracks plus two bonus: -le tombeau d edgar poe (haunted version)- and -cuerpos huecos- (spanish version of -hollow bodies- available only on a promotional 7&#8243,,,). limited to 350 copies on white vinyl with a new artwork and printed inner sleeve with photos and song lyrics.

andi and david first met in a forest beside a psychedelic castle in the wild west of scotland and soon bonded over a love of wrong speeders, balearic gems hidden in plain sight and the odder side of the dancefloor before djing together just moments after andi was unraveled from a burning tarpaulin. a firm friendship and fun partnership was born. hailing from mancunia but for sometime an export to the usa, andi, for many years was one of the great things about new york city. a charming, low-key individual, a great, great dj and a graceful presence in the land of the overhyped and ego driven. andi held down the musical supervision of rock star games and was responsible for a lot of great music getting out to the gaming masses. he was a vital member of body and soul for the best part of 15 years, delivering infamous warm up sets for danny krivit, joaquin joe claussell and françois k, pedigree vibes... david, a music lover since birth, a record collector for more than quarter of a century and a reputation for being the first on the floor at any party. db s transition from dancer to dj didn t take too long and his selections of rare disco, oddball gems and panglobal pandemonium have seen him play back rooms, basements, festivals and freakouts throughout the land, whether running his own parties in glasgow or playing further afield alongside the likes of young marco, jayda g and moodymann.

t.v. baby is a project that came to life during 2016 in a makeshift hideaway deep within a remote corridor of industrial new york city. the romantic isolation of their decaying surroundings leant its vibe to the otherwise occupied musicians as they intuitively explored their formative musical experiences, while playing at shifting their roles around within the band. from these changing dynamics the close friends debut album dignity dont dance was born. it comes on the label deus records, an imprint that continues the great independent ny tradition of dropping highly danceable music with rootsy, rock n roll swagger.

favorite recordings proudly presents this new official reissue of arian: a rare and underrated disco album originally released in 1981 by pgp rtb label and fully recorded in new-york. arian kerliu was born in the small town of macedonia, dibra or debar. arian’s first recordings for a local radio stations were at the age of 14, appearing in almost every music festival in ex-yugoslavia. when he was 19, arian came to new york city, working different jobs and studying music. his first music engagements were in various clubs throughout the city, playing guitar and singing. he then met with james benjamin-fish, well known bass-guitar player, with whom he formed the band arian & funky family, mainly performing in the best clubs of nyc at that time. together, they came to an idea to record an album of their own. after travelling throughout the us, they got to know each other very well, and had connected with probably some of the best musicians you could find at that time. thus they had sinclair acey arranging three songs and hubert eaves, as a writer of -still together-, a beautiful ballad written in honor of his wife. by that time hubert had gained two grammy awards for stephanie mills’ albums. kornelius cambell also wrote and composed two songs of the album, which sinclair acey arranged. the album also contains a great cover of “can’t say goodbye” by bobby caldwell, a song that arian and james had interpreted almost every night when touring. and all of this completed with the background vocals of tawatha agee (mtume), shevill alexander and sybil thomas (raw silk). arian & funky family band was then invited in yugoslavia for a european tour, including james, kornelius and stacey, but also others great musicians such as william -spaceman- patterson, zane mark, steve kroon, trevor gale, alex foster, or reggie marks, not forgetting flame braithwaite and meli sa morgan on background vocals. having the material of the 4 songs ready and finalized, the pgp rtb label from belgrade offered them to release an album, with the idea to also adapt the songs with lyrics from the famous croatian musician and writer mario mihaljevic. today, favorite recordings is deeply honored to bring this brilliant lp back to life. in order to insure the best sound quality, the original tracklist has been dispatched on a double vinyl version, which should please all djs and music collectors

brooklyn nyc - 1990. former berklee college of music student ed -the red- goltsman has already been locked away in the studio for the previous 5 years producing and playing on numerous underground soul and hip hop records. his deep love of music and his involvement with these projects eventually led to him setting up his own venture. inspired by encounters with nycs dance music underground these sounds and experiences helped shaped his idea and sound into what would become one of the most popular, cult dance music labels that emerged from the city during those fertile years - bottom line records.

the highly anticipated follow up to their 2013 dream of the walled city (ost) lp, samo dj and max stenerudh return with another far out record complete with backstory. originally composed as an accompanying piece for artist thomas jeppe s exhibition in tehran, iran the music contained on this release was originally pressed on extremely limited cdr s given out for free at the exhibition. as it stands it would have been a crime to keep this music in the private sector, thus now we see an official release in long playing format here on l.i.e.s. dream-like, full of drama, suspense and full of cinematic overtones, once again the duo of samo and max deliver beyond the full scope of psychedelic soundtrack madness.

candido cameron was a cuban percussion maestro who had played with luminaries such as dizzy gillespie, buddy rich and count basie throughout his illustrious musical career which started in 1952. fast forward to 1979 and candido finds himself caught up in the disco boom that had engulfed his adopted new york city. feeling he could add his trademark quick-fire conga and bongo playing to disco s straight 4x4 syncopated rhythm he cut some records with legendary nyc label salsoul. the fruits of this partnership were 2 full length lp s and a handful of 12inch singles that changed the face of underground disco.

gdm (glaswegian dance music) pioneer - sparky (aka dave clark) is back on numbers. having spent the last year on lockdown in his luxurious garden studio we have finally managed to wrestle two tracks out of his ageing hands. signals is an all-new track, first heard on dave’s essential mix for bbc radio 1 (aired as part of jackmaster s made in glasgow), and now in the sets of ben ufo and jd twitch. signals is classic sparky, nailing that sweet spot between the proto-techno sounds of british synth pop and the dancefloor nous of the motor city. the flip is a snarling metal-bashing beast called tigress which comes direct from his archives. we ve been on at him to release this one for almost a decade and after playing a 192 mp3 at a pretty boisterous numbers x optimo party last summer, sparky finally relented. one day we ll convince sparky to let us release all the music sitting in his vaults but for now here are two gems from a man whose music has played a pivotal role in the history of numbers.

a new set by the coolest chap in new york city documenting the before-and-after development of a solo electric guitar piece that alan licht has been playing out for last four years. revered for his work in the blue humans and text of light, and a key figure in his generations pantheon of experimental solo guitar players (such as jim o rourke and oren ambarchi), four years older is his debut editions mego release, representing another peak in a career of mining the rich seams of minimalism, noise and avant-garde in general that stretches back more than two decades.

gabriel ananda was captivated by the sound of classical music by the early age of 8. he was encouraged by his family to practice the cello, but it was through playing the guitar that fueled his motivation to continue to learn about music. the guitar became a useful tool to express his creativity, but gabriel was not finished searching for his musical direction. in 1995 that changed. a dj set by sven väth was the pivotal moment that ended gabriels search to find his passion and two years later, the new producer celebrated his first release for the german label hörspielmusik. he went on to release singles on treibstoff, trapez, platzhirsch, and karmarouge before producing what was for him, a life changing track
