re.face limited inaugurates its first release on vinyl with a unique 4 tracker ep titled lost. authors of this work the italians re_named, creative and talented resident of one of the strongest national night-life realities, zu::club, based in pescara. if lost, eponymous ep track, condenses in itself the thrill of a hopeful search of quiet serenity, united seals the safety of a placid finding, conclusion of an introspective journey to the discovery of a significant identity of its own. on the other side, the remixes of sakro and jack wickham consistently run through the same vein, a current that leaves way of surrender, but never tragically lost.

the second release on tb arthurs (312) label finds the mysterious artist revealing a collaborative project with magda as blotter trax. the pair first encountered each other at the famous motor city record store record time, when detroit artist bmg introduced his then co-workers magda and derek plaslaiko to arthur, who was visiting the shop from chicago. sometime after that meeting, magda and arthur went into the studio and jammed together for a week, the session was recorded live on analog 1/4 tape and then three tracks were selected for release. 1a is six and a half minutes of modulated synth sounds that are psyched out and sci-fi, spooky and truly atmospheric. full of cerebral cinematism, acid lines and ghoulish textures all add up to a truly standout track. 2a then marries dark wave pops and clicks, unsettling alien lifeforms and menacing, slo motion industrial drums into a physical and imposing groover riddled with paranoid sirens and drones. last of all, 2b snakes and slithers its way through undulating drums, cosmic freakiness and gloopy synth sounds that are all seductive and subversive in equal measure. this, then, is a truly fascinating pairing.

for their third delicacies 12inch this year, smd take a deeper, more spaced out approach, in contrast to the strict techno of the previous two releases. far away from a distance features hypnotic synth washes that glide slowly in and out of time with the track s rhythmic bed, stumbling over each other in a 5am haze. -flying or falling- pushes into classic smd melodies, mournful detroit indebted warmth spilling over the groove.

most fans of the blues believe it was born in the mississippi delta shortly before 1900. they are definitively wrong. the blues had its roots in other forms of older black music that are traced to the music of west africa. in that sense, mali music constitutes the dna of the blues and the griots can be identified as the direct ancestors of the rural bluesmen. baba sissoko is from mali and he is the last undisputed griot alive.

nice price deal !!! ”rundgang” (feedback in swedish) is a track made with feedback and i would call it a.o.t’s very own and personal interpretation of dubstep with ”lyrics” that reflects his wicked sense of humor. ”woot!” on the other hand is an evil excursion in filtered frequency noises and a distorted start/stop rhythm and this is nothing for the faint hearted so brace yourself you are in for a crazy trip verging on techno. the go koyashiki remix takes remixing to another level because go has stripped ”rundgang” to it’s bare essentials and produced a very minimal and slow pulsating track that ends with sublime pianoplaying.

second circle returns with their first release of 2016, this time with an ep from australian producer tornado wallace aka lewie day. . following up on releases for the likes of beats in space, esp institute and delusions of grandeur, wallace takes a step to the left with his first record made in his new home of berlin. recorded earlier this year, the release presents a trio of oddball house excursions which are at times deeply spatial and hypnotic and at other moments heavily percussive and almost tribal.

rain text is a new project by giovanni civitenga and giuseppe ielasi. this 4-track ep is the first in a series of records produced using each time a different and fairly limited bank of sounds. giovanni civitenga is a producer from rome, currently living and working in berlin. he has released albums under different monikers on various labels including brainfeeder and huntleys + palmers. in 2014 he started skyapnea, a label and series of broadcasts on nts radio. giuseppe ielasi grew up in the south of italy and now resides in the outskirts of milano. he mostly plays solo, but also in bellows (with nicola ratti) and in duos with enrico malatesta, kassel jaeger, andrew pekler. he has released (short) records on 12k, entr acte, senufo editions, dekorder, error broadcast and other labels and also produces music under the -inventing masks- moniker.

literary all the granny smith apple trees grown today, from uruguay to hokaido, are clones from mrs. smith’s original tree in sydney. bananas, oranges, watermelons, garlic & other fruits of daily delight are routinely replicated without any input of external ideas - i.e., they are cloned. there is no general ethical or aesthetic decision to be formed about clones, since you have already imbibed them ever since your first bite. thus, you are not in a neutral or otherwise preliminary position, but already involved, kneedeep.

cannataci records - a new record label run by ripperton & agnès cannataci records is a joint venture hosted by ripperton and agnès. the label is aimed at releasing rather unclassified music, pieces our friends compose or simply ourselves. the aim is at releasing music we believe make things go beyond the usual paths. the label name is a reference to our hopes in the newly appointed un special rapporteur on privacy, namely, joseph cannataci. frankly, we do not want to taint our music with politics, although we are simply firm endorsers of our own privacy and think everybody else should.

there is an alternative reality known as the big funk factory. those unsuspecting travellers who fall into this other place find themselves exposed to many characters and tales from this universe.

the formula was simple: marry bubblegum and soul to the absolute sincerity of an enthusiastic child, cross your fingers and pray for airplay. but while the youthful sums of that formula may have grown up and walked away from their illusions of stardom, their permanent records remain. by 1973, michael, tito, jermaine, marlon and jackie were as hip as kids could get—household names, with lunchboxes, coloring books, a saturday morning cartoon, and an alpha-bits cereal commercial pushing the j5 brand onto any kid with television reception. their impressive run of four consecutive #1 singles playing on both pop and r&b stations cemented their appeal to both whites and blacks, prompting mgm to launch the osmonds as the safer (read: white) alternative. and parents? well michael had that wrapped up with his impossible-not-to-love mini-james brown thing. even their song selection straddled both sides, with “zip a dee do dah” and “abc” for kids, and contemporary standards “standing in the shadows of love” and “my cherie amour” for the older crowd. this extreme marketing and merchandising juggernaut created the kid soul explosion. a decade removed from our acclaimed home schooled compilation comes a fresh batch of talent show titans. with enterprising parents, neighbors, and teachers turning play dates into recording dates, groups like magical connection, little man and the inquires, and five ounces of soul emulated the jacksons, who’d made grade-school stardom appear easy as abc. afterschool special: the 123s of kid soul contains 19 tiny tunes ranging from bilingual d.a.r.e. anthem, to james brown bio, to young love and life beyond the playground.

chicago basement trax returns with an homage to the king of the raw himself ron hardy. those that experienced ron hardy first hand will tell you there was a vibe like no other. a minimal space with strobe lights and a bangin system. if you put your hands on an eq or isolator as a dj thank ron as being an innovator of this creative style of frequency manipulation. not only did ron drop the bass, he dropped whole songs to expose the beautiful crispy hi hats, vocals and then romanced you with the piano before slapping your whole body with the beat. this ep does its job to take you there, just close your eyes and blast off!

dubtil’s debut for amphia comes in line with the previous 10 releases’ tagline: tailoring new musical perspectives into the multidimensional universe of electronic music. the opener -indoiala- sticks into our brains with its slow decaying voices, pitched down to embrace the devilishly simple percussion. keeping the same eerie approach to his idea of dancefloor oriented loops, dubtil completes side a with -alta schema-, another typical kick-led experience enveloped into a more haunting bassline. bearing a deep house dna yet not losing contact with the dancefloor energy through its breaks pattern, side b’s -repet slap repet- opens the gates to the abstract structure of -contrar-, an apparently chaotic contiguity of weird samples, glued to each other by the minimalistic bassline. jumping from one genre to another, confronting dusty preconcieved ideas just to turn them into a fresh sound: dubtil’s imagination fountain is far from getting dry! we now have the tangible proof.

len leise - ing ing - the first release for general purpose (gp), a record label created by len leise and longtime dj partner and collaborator salvador. leise and salvador neither plan to release exclusively on gp, nor promise regular releases. it’s a label for when they can find the time, energy, money and, most important, the sound they believe in. ing is about embracing change, experimentation and progression. terrified to follow a format, leise looked to other genres for inspiration. he turned to his love for dub, afro, post punk and experimental music to find guidance. artists like scientist, jah shaka, savant, adrian sherwood and andromeda all in their own way influence ing. ing is not what you’d expect from leise. ing is a dub record, a post punk record, an experimental record, a balearic record, a homage record, a record with a purpose.

midnite spares, australian music devotees andrás and instant peterson hold a candle to overlooked avant-pop and electronic works by antipodean artists and outsiders working through the 80s and 90s. through co-presenting weekly radio show strange holiday, the duo slowly upturned their locale for inspiration - archives, country bookstores, private collections and convenience stores, searching for a place to anchor their own identities in the oceans of the island continent. the 10 tracks acknowledge a minor history, passed on via a network of friends, friends of friends, the libraries of radio station 3rrr and more often than not, the artists themselves. renowned mixed media artist maria kozic enters with the mysterious downbeat of trust me, her partner philip brophy responsible for digital and analogue sonic construction. a recurring character in andrás and instant peterson’s investigations, brophy reappears with a score piece from his divisive feature film salt, saliva, sperm and sweat, recorded as ??? nothing lasts but nothing is lost – terence mckenna first solo ep by zanias after her keluar and linea aspera projects. this evolution culminates in a mature but radical project. radicalism has never relied completely on the means to deliver it. it also requires a relationship to society, to culture, at any given time. a solid background must be included in the formula as well. once certain stability is reached, there is no other way more than taking additional risks in order to produce new work of interest. finding different mechanisms to corrupt the methodical linearity that underlies artistic production. corrupting means finding possibilities to create an accident, possibilities to contradict, to prove anomalies within the frame of reference of that new thought is actually possible.

at 21 years old, mathis ruffing has already managed to craft a signature sound, elegant and mature with a focus on melody and texture. rewardingly diverse, the ep touches on several genres and influences, ranging from cosmic to earthy dancefloor cuts, acid, grime, proper electro, idm and ambient. the common thread on this record is the search for balance between heartfelt melodies on one hand and on the other a form of immediacy, raw and almost industrial. ruffing has no trouble finding this balance and adding five terrific tracks to the banlieue catalogue.

it is very difficult to present david duriez without writing an encyclopedic tome as its influence on the house music in france was decisive. since its inception in 1992, david released over a hundred records under his name, tens under various pseudonyms, mainly on vinyls on the most renowned labels like 2020vision, ovum, systematic, pokerflat, f communication, under the counter, stickman, crosstown rebels, the end, etc .. (the list is long, see discogs.com to be convinced) and as many remixes for some of the greatest artists (think moby, dj sneak, gemini, dj hell, llorca, telex, random factor, johnny fiasco, paul johnson, jori hulkkonen, ralph lawson, random factor, kenny hawkes or mr.c). founder of the label brique rouge and a whole galaxy of other labels, he participated in the creation of internationally recognized labels such as robsoul with phil weeks, freak n chic with dan ghenacia (from apollonia) or rz muzik. at a time when david had federated online the cream of the house producers via a forum (far and long before social networks), ivan smagghe had nicknamed him -the producer of the producers.- , a true house music activist, but most of all david duriez is a devastating dancefloor dj, he did several tours around the world and played in some of the biggest clubs in the world between 1995 and 2010. truly one of the most important players in the french electro scene, david is back on tracks after a few years hyatus. but don t call it a comeback because he has never really gone awol, he has been watching the scene and now he s back in the studio. you can expect a (very) long serie of releases for 2016, you have been warned!

(respectively with the -everything is nothing- and -ancient light- ep s), trippy -spiralgalaxie- will mark a new step in som s history. as usual, the final chapter of the series dedicated solely to hubble and all the great scientists and engineers at the nasa and esa, comes with a beautiful cover print picture taken by the space telescope.

there is a new label on the horizon and it s first release is all about warm heavy detroit influenced deep techno. another earth combines 2 acts together in a split ep series which compliment each other s sound. the a-side hosts the renowned u.s. based producer, myles serge (ms - re(form)) who, for these 2 tracks, let his machines run crazy beat patterns in a old school detroit techno vibe. the b-side features dutch based duo duijn and douglas (esther duijn and steady douglas). their stripped warm heavy padded deep techno influenced tracks are perfect for creating some heat on the dance floor and the b2, stray, is driven by berenice van leer s lush intense voice.

get on down is a heavyweight slice of storming jamaican disco-reggae heat from the legendary studios of miami s tk disco empire. king sporty s version may not have been as well known as connie cases electro laden later 1982 version (also produced by sporty) but the perfect marriage of disco stylings and sports jamaican roots meant the original 1979 version was a cult classic in underground deep disco circles. over 35 years since get on down was released the keepers of the tk disco vaults have given permission for some of their classics and lesser known gems to be respectfully tweaked by contemporary producers and dj s who fully understand the lineage of the label and the music contained within. stepping up and get his hands dirty is none other than london dwelling, wolf music man medlar. a regular face behind the turntables all over the world medlar has lovingly freaked king sportys anthem for the modern dance-floor, extending the right parts in just the oh so right way, dubbing out parts that needed just a smidgen of echo here and there and generally making the track irresistible to dj s with its lovely long beat led intro. these are extremely tasteful edits, done with respect and reverence over 2 parts old school style. look out for those low flying dubbed out vox and lazer beams too, powerful stuff! this is only one of many underground disco classics that the mighty miami based tk disco label brought to the world, reimagined for 2016s dance-floor, officially sanctioned in conjunction with henry stone music / tk disco. file under - classic / essential!

one per customer ... the wonderful black ops sub label from the sleazybeats people wraps up, which has been a monumentally successful series by anyone s standards, with an ep from the notorious sample bandits, the popular peoples front over a decade after launching a distinctive series whose ambitions amounted to no less than condensing thirty years of black club music into a beautifully packaged, portable collage of sonic sample goodness, the sb crew tracked them down & appealed to their anarchic, nihilistic nature by offering them the final release on the label. the ppf project itself came to a close at release no. 10, so the synchronicity was strong for no other reason than a desire to celebrate dancefloor abandon and strive to soundtrack the purest forms of hedonism, ambiguous sexuality and a transcendent celebration of outsider culture, not to mention a green light to shamelessly exploit, steal and otherwise pilfer their source material, they said yes. after trying, with no small amount of success to transcend the basic edit through the ppf series, the band have again worked their collage approach into three truly magical cuts as always, this is a limited, vinyl only release. it will not be repressed and will not be released digitally. not now, not ever

for this inaugural release the french label bfdm introduces two young promising producers aka the pilotwings. agorespace is an excursion, a trip where dark and killer drums meet with some soft melodies and primitive percussion. trance beats is a wonky house track made up of hip-hop/jungle breaks and synthetic animal sounds, a powerful combination of tribal rhythm and creepy synths. on the same side comes cavernes magiques, a modern electronic tune where raw 707 jams gives way to trippy dance pads, 90s influences. on the other side a strong techno track contrasted with bright synths called cours-la-ville, a dark and long exploration.

avesom (name inspired by the dog of justin bennett, the sound technician that mixed the album) are creations produced during long reharsals sessions that have taken place mostly during sunsets and late nights. there torakiki inmersed themselves in a trip where the music achievable with their own finger was tested, rejecting in advance any programming. the overall sound of the album follow the path of the previous ep, halfway between the new wave and ambient. the band aims references from aphex twin, liars, jamie xx and on the other side, classical sounds from the italian song. in the album participate the voice of ilaria ippolito (# #pap ) and of gulia olivari (o.a.u.). the video of luxard was shot by giovanni aloi in a park in hong kong.
torakiki filled the pieces of avesom with a strong dynamic identity, combining the creative impulses of the three minds and their respective backgrounds. this is a process that questions the logic through a frenetic impulse that provokes constant changes, even though the final result are attainable and catchy songs.

catalogue number pp018 has been work in progress for quite a while now. wind-s originally appeared in a slightly different version as part of the soundtrack to one of rohtheaters plays. the track features all the typical obalski elements we have grown so fond of in the past. dreamy pads and odd melodies create the sort of ambient that carries you away somewhere else (bravo!). we decided that it would be interesting to hear other artists take their turn on the material. the japanese duo mascaras (chida & 5ive) transformed wind-s in an atmospheric drum workout. fantastically incorporating the breezy synth elements of the original into their flow of percussion. press play lift off. the b-side gives space to nick höppners epic techno groove. ecstasy evolving progress.

following on from anethas ophiuchus ep last year, work them records founder spencer parker has compiled a remix package featuring himself and french techno stalwart antigone. a key component in the thriving parisian techno scene, anetha is a resident at monthly party series blocaus. spencer reworks drive with a dead girl, incorporating punchy kicks and shuffling hats before the originals mesmerising arpeggios come into effect. on the other hand antigone distorts black widow beyond recognition by blending fuzzy atmospherics with a cavernous 808 and glitchy hook. concluding the release is a bonus track from anetha herself titled traces to nowhere with its gloomy pads and squelchy melodies.

filling the night with scars, the new release by our mainstay g&#322,ós marks the second installment on the ravage white series label. at the core of this release, g&#322,ós seems to build bridges between his ambient side on one hand and his thumping club music side on the other hand. especially the a-side covers the clubbier rhythmic vibe whilst the b-side conveys the more emotional vibe. like in the title track, he builds slowly and smoothly but he stays very precise in which acidic sounds come and fade. with this release, he finds a balance between the nostalgic anthem-like euphoria and a more darker and deeper narrative.

hey, do you remember how much dance music owes to experiment and coincidence????? quirky 7 release from lutto lento is kind of danceable but also raw and harsh, maybe hypnotic? first track sounds like a dark twisted fantasy about carnival in some cheap tropical spa. the other one will reach your guts and throw them upside down. hell yeah.

invisible, inc now brings the aptly named spacerocks into the fold with the release of a 6- track ep that comes storming in from the outer reaches of a galaxy light years away (or just decades past?) into the earpiece of your unwashed spacesuit. it s hard to pinpoint what genre this actually fits into but if you imagine vapourspace s gravitational arch of 10 as interpreted by vangelis with drum programming by nitzer ebb you d be getting reasonably close. other influences may well include cluster, conrad schnitzler, chris & cosey to name a few, while comparisons can be made to contemporaries like solyst, musiccargo, barnt and secret circuit. spacerocks is a solo offshoot project from higamos hogamos main man steve webster (also fort lauderdale, the black neon, memphis industries, dc recordings). the project sees steve ditch his band and strip things down to his modular, vintage and custom-built synthesizer set up alongside equally rare and vintage analogue drum machines, sequencers and fx units.

what ever not is the variegated music outlet from experienced dodi palese and dan mela, italian djs and producers supporting, selling, playing and releasing instrumental and dance music for two decades. what ever not tenth record, ‘galegos bar / the ritual’, sees a split release signed by dan mela and marco erroi. label co-founder dan mela inaugurates a new moniker ‘man dela’ for ‘the ritual’ - the original track gets remixed by anton zap, with whom mela already collaborated for a digital release on his own ethereal sound. flipping on the other side, marco erroi, head of common series ltd, continues his production career with ‘xxxv gold fingers’ for the ‘galegos bar’ side – one of the many different aliases he personifies - also contributing by realizing the artwork. ‘galegos bar / the ritual’ offers two sides of the same coin and we can have both things with one stroke. the common denominator is the ethnical ritual. it is fully expressed in the man dela side with deep and hypnotic ride out turned upside down by anton zap with a dynamic electronic waltz. the same item, however, is magically hidden in the xxxv gold fingers side, where we can find it in the form of drink beer and play cards just like in most terrible bars in south of italy.

redefine is the second single taken from trentemøllers new album fixion and features marie fisker on vocals. marie fisker, a mainstay of the trentemøller live constellation, has also been a long-time studio collaborator of anders and her four songs on fixion mark their third musical partnership. marie has such a powerful and unique voice that fits my music quite naturally. i had her in mind as soon as i started writing. she ended up singing on four of the songs so shes definitely the voice that kind of leads you through the album. having toured so extensively with marie, we ve come to understand each others capacities and that really pushes us to challenge and inspire each other. i reckon thats the driving force behind our songwriting.
