in 1996 paul birken released the classic and now rare as hens teeth surfin superior double 12inch on woody mcbrides communique label. this was to be a revered and respected record that influenced many and is still talked about and played today. now, some 19 years later he follows it up with part 2. nobody works as hard at getting human sounding chattering from their machines as birken and here he treats us to 8 massive cuts of grinding techno that are as humorous as they are danceable.

low-down and dirty jazz goes right back to the early 1900s in storyville, after the bands had played their hot tunes in the evening for dancing couples, the musicians would head off to the after-hours joints and play a less energetic but more bluesy kind of music, enabling them and their late-night audiences to get through to the early hours of the morning without suffering total exhaustion. and nobody in new orleans laid into the blues so low down and dirty as buddy bolden, whose funky butt became a staple in the repertoire of the citys early jazz bands.

great 80s electro - funk - disco feeling !

danse club label bosses scott & austen smart aka brodanse unleash their second release on the label, the the ride featuring vocals from cari golden. the release kicks off with the original version of nobody walks, a tough and grooving slice of vocal house that employs a simple bass and piano chord groove to provide the soundbed for cari goldens distinctive vocals.

in the late 60s early 70s many american soldiers where stationed all over germany. among those where musicians who played in several army bands like the east of underground who recorded a now sought after album after they had won the special services entertainment showband contest held in frankfurt in 1971. nobody knows which other bands participated in this contest, maybe also the soul explosion which were stationed in augsburg, upper bavaria. around the same time, a man named charles held opened a club in augsburg town called tarantel. furthermore he was running a record label of the same name on which he released a handful of 7inch singles from different, local bands, mainly not funky at all though. the soul explosions release remains the only one in the field of american soul & funk music. the band recorded a fantabulous double sider, one deep funk side with a soulful ballad on the flip which makes both hardcore funk and soul collectors happy. unfortunately there is no more information available about the band, only that they even performed live at the tarantel club.

half baked records is back with his fifth offering, presenting the solo ep of french dj & producer robin ordell. on top of having released on eklo, robin is one of the historical residents of half baked, an artist present in the family from day one, growing together with the project while bringing his own touch to it, a delicate balance between light and darkness, drive and delicateness.

nobody can deny the fact that vilnius in lithuania is currently a very creative and agile place. first and foremost mario basanov of course, whose ten walls moniker swept the board last year and whose hype seems to have only just started. his popularity was heightened by the start of his own label boso. it took off with the highly praised -walking with elephants-, which was already one of the biggest tunes of this summer, before it even came out. the second release is by few nolder, another highly talented native from vilnius, who showed frst signs of life on connaisseur with his lovely tune -space espace- on our last edition of livingroom techno as well as with his remix for -canto d amore- by marco effe & francesco carone. -clouds- is the name of his boso release, and it looks to be the next big thing for this young label. for his frst own release on connaisseur he delivered -if-.the fact that it is different from his other output is why we have decided to present this tune in two versions as a 10- vinyl-only single. the original is a summerish and catchy house cut with a bouncy bassline and a slightly uk-approach.this tune makes you move without there being much you can do about it. the alt version goes deeper, building up with a question/answer theme until a strong, driving piano element joins to complete the track. lovers of older pokerflat releases will truly enjoy this version.

we are very excited to announce our new dirt crew sub label >spiel< and more so our brand new artist clancy who will do the first release on our new imprint, this also being his debut ep. we started the new label to focus even more on different genres in the dance music world than we already did with dirt crew recordings.

after the excellent reception of the first instalment, ander-trax is back yet again with more supremely crafted tracks from label head and all round gentleman alex-ander. nobody really expected such talent to emanate from coatbridge, did they? then again, wasnt the fella responsible for that blueboy *remember me* thing from coatbridge? maybe that was airdrie.

sam cooke is considered to be one of the pioneers and founders of soul music. through his justifiable legendary and distinctive voice he acquired the nickname king of soul.
this is the remastered version on 180 grams audiophile vinyl of a record that has been out of print for a (too) long time.

thomas brinkmann releases the first of a series of releases on third ear. the quality and originality of these tracks reminds us just how good a producer thomas brinkmann is. techno it is, but nobody sounds like this. this, the first release is the guy martin ep, inspired by the british motorcycle racer and raconteur, guy martin. brinkmann, is himself a keen motorcycle rider and racer.

derek kaye married his schoolboy passions of music and electronics in 1973 when he constructed his first disco sound system, aged just 13. prior to this, with dj equipment something of a rarity in those days, he created a custom setup that bypassed the need for a mixer by rewiring his turntables in such a way that he could flip the sound from one deck to another, and installed a switch that would dip the music so a microphone from a portable cassette player could be used to announce the song on rotation. his work soon grew in sophistication and a new console was built, with his schoolmate, greg wilson, buying derek s old rig, thus beginning his own well-documented dj career.
