and are a duo living in manchester, uk. they have released a split 12 inch with 16 bit on mindset in 2009, the second 12 inch on black sun records that came out recently and a couple of 12 inches on horizontal ground. they sent me various batches of tracks spanning a wide range of sounds, all rooted in techno to my ears but spanning different tempos, emphasis and mood. i selected three of those tracks to appear on this ep, ranging between 130 and 135 bpm. self defence returns in full effect with new yorks one and only dj dukes (of sex trax / power music fame) >summer madness ep<. dj duke had retired from the music front for a while, after he had about 300 records emerged after his >blow your whistle< blew up in 1993 and during the past few years. with releases dating back to 1990, you know the mans got skills aplenty, and they once again get a killer workout on this ep. each of the tracks shows a different side of his music-making and rewards ones time and attention, demonstrating that duke plays in his own league of house music. a bit of curry flavour seeps into >summer blast< by way of a sinuous string melody, adding an exotic tinge to the breeziness that otherwise infuses the cut. a funky, vibes-like motif and analog synth streams bring additional colour to the scene while a crisp, pumping groove locks everything solidly in place

from his roots in early italo disco , a sound that inspired him since his childhood, this mysterious producer comes out with a genuine gem of pure balearic and disco mood, among the use of real hardware and various instruments creating this classic extended disco version that sounds in an actual disco edit style, even if the song is brand new. leading the voice is the huge, a magical voice and multi instrumentalist from italy: the combo between the two is explosive, mellow and at the same time light and pure. then the remix by melchior sultana, famous for his collaboration with owen jay on jus eds label (underground quality), creates a magical and elegant slow tempo version, chilled and funk at the same time, with a totaly new mood and some real rhodes and guitar played and sequenced in an akai mpc sampler. last the house electro disco dont play minimal, play minigolf, that follows a hypnotic mood bass synth, accomplished with ethereal chords and a super funky trumpet, sampled directly from will powers masterpiece of the early 80s…. ta ta taaa

the 40 thieves turn up in lengs back garden for a bit of late night skulduggery. kicking off side-a with >backward love<, a deep wobble of dub guitars, weird out fx, large 80s synth lines and lovely throbbing bass, more than enough to get people freaky. on side-b, >crystal mountain thunder< has a genius intro of ambient electronic atmosphere, which gives way to another slug of late-night dub wonkiness, with massive guitars and a hefty drumkit. as expected, a meaty joint of late night disco, for the murkier end of the dance-floor. we hear an album is coming up and if it matches the quality of this release then weve got a veritable treat on its way. check!

aah, how we have missed them! the fine young gentlemen that are channel x, two of stil vor talents most active producers of meticulously crafted and deeply energetic tech-house smash hits. and just in time for the open-air season they now come back with two very convincing pieces of dancefloor art. first up is >little symphony<, an epic space opera that takes it cues from early 90s techno and mixes it up with post-modern grooves and beats. the wide and open spaces are filled with some very hymnal string patterns that are given a final treatment with a reverbed and high-pitched vocal sample. contrast that with the rather jittery beat and a subbass as deep as the frequencies will go and you got yourself a substantially clear bit of techno that is best imagined when it is dark and only some beams of air tell you where you are. channel x do not produce, they direct and all of the sounds are their actors! on the flip things get more light-hearted and set for the daylight hours as well. >steamboat willie< is a heavily sample-orientated swinging piece of jack. the rhythm guitar lead the way on top of a clap-based loop that sets the basis for some very jazzy interpretations along the way. clarinets, trumpets, percussions, brass, effects and even some talking vocal samples are all allowed to join in this hedonistic big band that is at play. this is one for the sunshine, this is one for the smiles on the faces, this is one to feel instantly good about yourself and everything around you. two very different tracks on this ep, but both equally stand out for themselves

(leutral rec.) offers a small soft organs house number. la bella bella is the name of the track and promises not only a beautiful woman with an elegant swing of the hips on the dance floor. jamy wing (sonido / einmaleins / finebeatz) shakes the appropriate remix-cocktail with sun-ripened fruits from percussions and matching reduction.

cool, dark underground club monsters. being a top player in the music industry is not an easy task! but with 15years in the business and over 150 releases, 50+ remixes & 300+ compilation appearances the numbers of jeffs output speak for them self’s. jeff started creating music in 1994 and got hooked on it directly, but it took until 1998 before his first single was to come out on his own label maskros music. since that single he has released on labels like poker flat, night drive music, episode, treibstoff, kickin music, konvex konkav, plastic city, global underground, regular etc.

the -makeovers- project is a compilation of some of claudes best re-twists, some of which are so far removed they can almost be considered original works. this special edition vinyl includes one of the most sought after remixes, -warpaint- originally by pocket 808 in australia, vonstroke turned this into a late night anthem in 2007. played by techno djs, dubstep djs, and everyone in between this track was never cut to vinyl until now. on the flip side claude remixed the nublu orchestra out of new york. he was never completely happy with the original version of the remix and hes gone back and re-made it into a very special piece of music including a new vocal sample from his wife aundy who also did the vocal effects in whos afraid of detroit? this collection was put together with the theme that a remix can be an inspiring starting point for an entirely new piece of music. these are two of the deeper and darker remixes but we think you agree they are also very special.

dubline records unveils their next release by the neurodub duo that runs the dubline camp - melamin & wicked sway. the theory behind this production outfit is balance. neurologically the human brain percieves information to be incomplete if it is not symmetrical. in a practice of endless work ethic the sound design interfaces perfected beats that have an even balance of elements. the process in which people follow music as a path is implied in the waking of the conscious mind while in it spirit. the thought process of their approach to neuro is always written for the peoples natural instinct to follow obvious paths of information that can be used to direct the appliance of listening as a being of light tunes in and drops out the appropriate information. thus by drawing attention to the information the focus remains to show the difference between the foreground and background. a focal point is intended to encourage the listener to always furthur the exploration of the information presented. using elements that are different to show that they are clearly different components of presented information and yet both also with similarity to those of the same reference. its simply easier for ones step towards enlightenment in the experience of being human to realize the thought process and recognize the ego, reminding at the expense of the thinking brain that its cheaper to die.

after the echocord jubilee compilation we are now back with a new artist on echocord. we welcome sasu ripatti aka vladislav delay from finland. sasu is known from many projects, like luomo and from the moritz von oswald trio. now that sasu have the quartet where he can fully search for the acoustic music and jazz-influences and beyond, the vladislav delay solo stuff will be again focused on electronic experiments. these 2 tracks give a light on where the project is heading. something old, something new. the remix is from no one else than ricardo villalobos and max loderbauer.

its an exciting time for idle hands, as the fledgling label mutates into a many headed musical beast. after the bristol record shop rooted records sold its last chunk of wax late last year, idle boss chris farrell has carried the torch and opened the idle hands store on stokes croft in bristol city centre. just as the shop highlights idle hands dedication to its hometown, this latest release on the label marks the first time the music has come from outside the city limits. szare will probably not be a name familiar to many, having covertly established himself on the lauded horizontal ground label, basking in the stamped white label anonymity of deep, troublesome 4/4. now with this release and his syndrom z label, the producer steps just a little into the light to expose his unique abstractions on swung techno. >volya< ploughs a sparse and percussive furrow, while >action five< boasts a wistful, dreamlike melodic bent to leave you with two distinctly different, but equally enthralling cuts.
