for his second transmission as part of the mindshake family, carlo lio drops a propulsive, meticulous building stomper of a tune. lio creates an impressively spacious and dark sound sphere which envelopes and lures the listener in as the beat subtly builds tension and release. complementing the core elements of the track, crisp drum fills and bell chimes pierce through the mix while a hypnotic repeating synth line wont let you wake up. ghostly vocals channeling the sounds of long past soul singers, add an unexpected but welcome house element. specifically geared for that time of the night when you want to add a wtf moment.

tony ollivierra begins 2011 by getting down with the machine sound. bordering on acid-funk, this ep really gets it shakin. the title track jericho, reeks of the latter days of disco with a deep bass line that fades in and takes control of the party. a warm synth chord then kicks in along with some strings which build up to a peak time climax. nag champa captures a deep and surreal groove with a sweet aromatic feel that definitely is burning. the dark bass line entangles the listener in a sensual moment while a resonant synth riff tops it off. on the flip, midi aura begins with an uncompromising synth bass line that does not quit. the sequence bubbles onward and a thick chord sweeps through the arrangement opening up into a placid apex of harmony. the aura of this midi is feel good all the way. lastly jack box, another acid track that works the cutoff and resonance into a climax of delightful poly rhythm and melody. jericho will be a very limited vinyl press and will be the final project on the ibex music label. keep your ears open for his next label venture which will be introduced this summer.

kicking off 2011 with a killer e.p. is our favourite artist art bleek featuring a number of remixes from the new art supplies album released on loungin this month plus some fresh cuts exclusive to this release. starting the e.p. is a floor filling remix of clap your hands by our own trevor loveys. the original has been out for a few months in the blogosphere and has been picking up some heavy props. next up is hold it (a little longer) where art shows off his true talent of the master of the musical groove with a rolling bass and a choppup vocal lick to keep the party rocking. flip over to side b and you would be excused if you thought someone had swapped the record out for a disco classic. with vox by noelle scaggs and a harmony that nile rodgers would be proud of arthur creates a boogie classic that is very much flavour of the moment. following on is an exclusive remix of the hunt dance featuring the unmistakable voice of ursula rucker. the original on art supplies has had such amazing reactions that we all thought it would be hard to better it, but again arthur has done it delivering a groover for the heads. finally is right on featuring l.as finest charlie sputnik. art delivers a more techy grove to this classic which is a sound he is becoming more recognised for which contrasts so will with charlies trademark smooth vocals.

easy and the center of the universe we already know from their recent flogsta danshall 7 inch release and some skweee compilers,remember legend of selda on skweee tooth?this new release on harmonia is as the previous ones infected with arabian soundbites. we recognize the details from our nights in the medina of marrakesh, we slip into our caftan, smoke the water pipe and drink mint tea,and are bodypoppin like an egyptian. no kiddin, this record is so imaginative and so true to its style that you cant go any other way. details of the percussion on halloumi are so good with the details in the orchestration (references to uom kalthoum records come to mind) the pitch and modulation wheels used intensive. with this release easy & center of the universe prooves again that skweee is one of the most evolving styles at the moment. this is exotic and exiting music.

olm029 - layo & bushwacka! - double a side summer gone/what do you say now layo and bushwacka! spent most of last year recording, the first offering from this period came at the end of last year with their endangered ep on plus 8. we now present their first release on their own label in eleven months. summer gone is a groove that starts on an up that slowly breaks down and brings in sounds, voices, rhythm and then kicks back with a really strong vocal and groove. what do you say now hits from the moment it begins with a stripped down sound and dub vocal and then slams with strong percussion and then back to the groove. totally tested out by layo & bushwacka! but supported big by the only two other djs with copies, richie hawtin and laurent garnier.

oslo says hello to 2011 with a great ep again from one of the best electronic producers at the moment, guillaume & the coutu dumonts. we all know his eps on oslo, so we can be sure that he will not dissapoint. on the a side we find >praise to the beat maker< an amazing track with lyrics by dave aju, you will never take this track out of your mind. the rhythm is 100% guillaume. the second track of the ep >promess-lovin< gives the main melody to the release, and with some female vocals remains us one of the best old school house periods. the last track >all you have to do< is a very slow and musical track, wich keeps the line of the ep and at the same time add something different.

in just three years, berlin based artist dehnert has gone from unknown talent to underground hero with his very own >raw techno< sound making waves on labels like his own imprint fachwerk and now delsin, where he finds himself at home amongst the future music of talented cohorts redshape, a made up sound, delta funktionen and more. this ep is an introduction to his upcoming album framework - an uncompromising album made up of pure techno tracks of the sort youd expect to hear on the dancefloors of places like berghain or tresor. they go from pulsing and classic sounding to skipping and glitchy, through greyed-out and sandy via swinging and syncopated but always with a sense of restraint and control whether they are abstract, apocalyptic, atmospheric or whatever else. although his tracks are undeniably functional, at the same time, they are neither nondescript nor forgettable: somehow, through masterful sound designs and an accomplished knack for blending real tension and atmosphere with his obvious basic channel and berghain influences, mike dehnert manages to lock you into whatever mood takes his fancy with apparent ease.

2010 has been a massive year for jozif, emerging as one of the most talked about artists in house music. the follow-on from the first sell-out edition, “beats in space”, “brick jane” goes further to cement his place as one of the vanguard of the london music scene, and propel fist or finger to the status of a buy-on-sight label. jozif’s title track – the dancefloor focused ‘fist’ of the package – goes in deep, the momentum continuously building as the track twists and turns through a landscape of deep slabs of bass assured deployment of subtle guitar plucks and piano chords, and dreamy xylophones. finally releasing into an epic crescendo, jozif only allows the moment to last just long enough, before all the elements are stripped right back as the journey starts all over again. brick jane draws out a journey, continuing to morph and subtly affix new elements throughout its 7 minutes. the arrangement is simple yet the progression is deft, subtle and effective, creating a vibe that can be employed at any given time of the night, offering a truly different context. craig’s ‘finger’ re-interpretation picks up the thread where his “beats in space” remix left off. crackling static laced with woozy atmospheres and paranoid utterings flip the vibe of the original completely on its head. richards displays a completely unique ability to stretch the original track far beyond its character into a completely different dimension, building a warped soundscape that feels as though it was recorded in a chasm deep deep underground. a mind-bending journey from a truly multi talented artist, in the truest sense of the word

after an incredible whirlwind of a year lee foss returns to the culprit fore with >your turn girl<. foss is the labels most consistent and prolific artist with this ep being his fourth release, solo or as part of hot natured. it is safe to say, lee has become one of the pillars around which culprit is being built. the >your turn girl ep< carries foss signature hallmarks: melodic funk-infused basslines, vocal hooks that grab you from the off and a smooth electronic edge. lees incredibly emotive sound makes him stand out even in the current glut of soulful dance music washing over the global scene. your turn girl – the title track is an epitome of foss >ominous funk< style, playful yet with a distinctly sultry edge. yet another memorable r n b female vocal bit sits on top of some of lees own best synth work. and driven by a killer analogue bassline. >pyramid scheme< –bristles with the disco-inspired propulsive energy. an acid-flecked low end, that comes to the fore mid-way through, a swirling guitar sample, the crisply sharp drums add up to the releases, perhaps, most hands-in-the air moment. >cabin party< continues the themes lee explored with his mega successful hot creations ep. foss eschews the standard house beat yet again, opting for his most organic drums yet, stunningly conceived textures and melodies, with another pair of vocal hooks to die for. finally >warriors< has been a staple of many a culprit dj set for the best part of 2010. lees trademark combination of a terrific electronic bassline, and an unabashedly emotional sample work make for a deep house stand-out tinged with a sense of nostalgia.

once again leng deliver with a lovely bit of heavy electronic stompery. tiagos >the source< goes straight for the dark end of the dancefloor and wallows in the smokey acidic enivirons of the late night moody corner ! with a punchy throbbing bass, hefty beats, tons of spacey effects and some awesome delayed hi hats to really mess your head, this is in the box for the strobe light moment. on side-b >mudds slow rave mix< turns up the acid a few notches, somehow gets even swampier in the bottom end and slightly more whacked out on the fx, add a lovely niggling synth line for a dark heavy dancefloor work out.

dimitri kneppers (1967) music career reads like an encyclopedia. a house encyclopedia. after 23 years of spinning records you could call this dj a true veteran. known for his enormous sensitivity, true feeling and mixing skills he gives you the sense you are the voyeur of an intimate act between two lovers. the music and the man. but nobody ever felt and looked so comfortable behind the decks as dj dimitri, for he brings the crowd at ease like don juan would do with women. when ecstasy is no longer just a word, but a true magical moment as the crowd, the surroundings and the music all come together in one hypnotizing state of happiness. this man knows -or should we say feels- what he is doing, not only behind the decks but also when producing. in september 2007 dimitri said goodbye to his headphones to work on a farm with mentally handicapped people. fortunately for his fans the break wasnt premanent in the middle of last year he installed a studio in his home, then this past june he returned to the decks - now he makes his planet e debut with a stunning track already tearing up dancefloors. included is the first of two remixes by carl craig. a second ep with remixes by orlando voorn and carl craig will appear in early 2011
