first time we heard one of their tracks being played out it immediately sparked our interest to find out who is behind the music. on the other side we found a group of likeminded souls from london and a simple inquiry evolved into a close friendship. for the fourth luckison edition we proudly showcase felon5, a trio of super talented upcoming producers, with four tracks that have become pure luckison classics over the last year!

look we re five records deep and yes, we arent sure which tune is on which side. but luckily, this release is as high concept as speed 2: cruise control. on one side you will find ad, which samples an inspiring speech given by the heroic angela davis at southbank in 2017. listen to her wisdom as you play this in your front room at 7am to people who suddenly can t quite look at their hands properly. the other side pas greets you with warnings of atomic explosions over a riotous jam between a yamaha cs-10 and a sturdy analogue 808 clone. if you have a pressing need for air raid sirens, this is for you. we hope you like this west friends release. there will be more.

songs about the unity of sudan, peace between muslims and christians and the fate of war orphans, backed by grooves equally taking influence from arabic sounds, american funk as well as neighboring ethiopia. kamal keila was among the first artist we met in sudan during our two trips to khartoum and omdurman last year. he is one of the key figures of the sudanese jazz scene that was a vital part of the musical culture in sudan from the mid 1960s until the islamist revolution in the late 1980s. when we meet kamal he luckily presented us with two mold covered studio reels. each tape included five tracks. one with english lyrics and another with arabic ones. musically you can hear the influence of neighboring ethiopia much more than on other sudanese recordings of the time, as well as references to fela and american funk and soul. his lyrics, at least when he sings in english which gave him more freedom from censorship, are very political. a brave statement in the political climate of sudan of the last decades, preaching for the unity of sudan, peace between muslims and christians and singing the blues about the fate of war orphans called shmasha. a note inside one of the boxes specified the track titles, durations and the fact that the sessions were recorded on the 12th of august 1992. both sessions stand as a hearable testament how kamal keila stuck to a sound aesthetic from decades ago, while incorporating current events into his lyrics. kamal keilas album is the first in a series of releases covering the sudanese jazz scene on habibi funk. be on the lookout for albums by the scorpions and sharhabeel coming soon.

this has always been a rare 12inch originally only released in the uk in 1979, phoenix was considered to be too disco at the time and the release pretty much sank without trace - one reason why finding those original uk 12inches is near on impossible these days. just 2 copies on discogs and a mint one will be circa £50 if you re ever lucky enough to find one. however, since 1979 phoenix has grown in stature and what was once considered to be a twee disco tune has now become a huge collector s item and a staple in the right clubs. no surprise really as this is norman connors at the top of his game and the production is red-hot. how phoenix never made it to 12inch vinyl in the u.s. is one of the great mysteries of life but here it is on beautiful fresh 12inch vinyl some 38 years later. as with all our 12inch re-issues we ve replicated the original label. luckily there are no bootlegs to contend with on this release, so this is the first re-issue of this song since the original release date, so order with confidence

up next on 20/20 vision we welcome the ever-diverse and evolving nathan jonson. following a decade of producing and dj ing as hrdvsion, nathan has stepped out under his birth name to mark a new stage in his career. cross colours is a perfect representation of this new stage, a hybrid of all the styles he has become renowned for. when we heard cross colours we were all in agreement that luke vibert would be the perfect remixer. luckily luke agreed too and turned in a killer take on the original, flirting with early rave and hardcore whilst keeping the electro aesthetic. the b side is rounded off with a club focused version from ralph lawson & rui-z (which has already being championed by seth troxler on his most recent essential mix) and a dark techno rework from exciting new 20/20 signing dokta, who you can expect to hear a lot more from this year.

hello sailor is a party and record label based in brooklyn, ny founded by brazilian-born, new york based renata do valle. since 2012, the label has been staging events with an array of local and international artists. following the killer first release ( muko wapi ), featuring the joakim rework was never going to be easy, but luckily sao paolo dj duo selvagem step up ! acclaimed releases on the beats in space x label and universal cave have established them as a force to be reckoned with in the esoteric edits game. le freak is a cumbia style rendition of the chic classic, driven by insane synths and sampled drum loops, punctuated with low-pitched vocals in portuguese. tamanqueiro could be one of the greatest hits by jorge ben, if it wasn t written by elizio de buzios. that s his only release ever and now is a holy grail of brazilian funk, fetching small fortunes when found. here it appears in an extended and dj-friendly version.

the first release of the new year for delsin records will be the new album from vril. vril debuted on the delsin-label with his excellent vortekz ep early in 2014, which came after releases on his family-label giegling and also semantica in previous years, and was followed up by the torus lp, a double 12inch on giegling affiliate forum. now hes back with his second full length. one day vril sat down in his station and suddenly a portal opened. thru a kind of timehole infinitive moments passed by. luckily he was able to capture a few of those to share with us. the portal closed. nothing was left, no questions. only this lp.

skylax welcomes f.t.g., known to house music scholars as freddy the groove, and his many friends for our next release in 2014. last year, f.t.g. and his italian partner in crime, marco riff (who also appears on this very record), pressed a very limited run of a single-sided, special throwback tribute to late 80s chicago house music. the track was aptly named �tribute �89�, and it put a more dancefloor oriented twist on a track by a certain originator with the initials r.h. needless to say, it became highly sought-after incredibly quickly and fuel was further added to the fire by the repeated club play by none other than the dj idol ricardo villalobos. luckily for our followers, that original mix appears on this ep with another unreleased mix of the track and 2 originals featuring belfie and alex tea alongside f.t.g.with enough said about �tribute �89� itself, the unreleased mix maintains the warehouse vibe with a heavy kick and bouncing bass pattern but takes it to another level with the introduction of rolling vocal cuts and a rather ravey synth line. flipping over the to b-side, we are treated with two tracks by f.t.g. and alex tea, named �public enemy� and �bango�, with the former also seeing belfie lend a helping hand in the production. both of these originals round out the record nicely and cement it as another skylax release that is definitely not to be missed

after the highly anticipated release of his third studio album decay, efdemin presents the first part of a remix series featuring his favourite producers. bristols underground hero asusu inflates the reduced album opener some kind of up and down yes with deepest bass and beautiful scapes to the max in a true photek-style. last years control by staffan linzatti was one of the favourite constants to be played in every efdemin or lawrence set. luckily his version of solaris is another epic hymn here with futuristic enhancements of the third kind.the most extraordinary piece on decay versions part 1 is the borderland states rework of parallaxis. efdemins studio-mate john gürtler recorded that beauty with adding acoustic instruments only and sounds like a meeting of moondog with wim mertens.

emanating from japan, and discovered by erid d (of rub n tug fame), these re-edit masterclasses would never have gotten outside of their native market. luckily a helping hand from one of nycs most hyped party throwers has guaranteed a wider audience! as they their penultimate release in the alphabet themed series, we are treated to another duo of uncompromising and dancefloor ready edit delights.

little is known about mysterious producer tommy rawson. our first acquaintance was the aptly named shy track on red rackems smugglers inn 001 release. we tried to find out more but the trail got cold pretty quick. it was not until hearing gilles peterson playing a version of hugh masekelas dont go lose it baby on his show that word got around, tommy rawson was back. this particular anthemic track found its way to mats who then started playing it out and every time, in every club no matter where in the world the reaction was same, people completely lost it on the dance floor! we had but no choice to release the track and luckily enought tommy must have a sixth sense because at the same time mats blasted the track at the local talk office to convince tooli shouting: this is the next big release for local talk, i m telling you! another track made it into his mailbox, the soulful house jam brenda done died with no name. both tracks ended up on this 12 inch of course. mr rawson has delivered the goods here, warm, sunsplashed music all the way. a name to watch for this year and probably not mysterious for long.

feted kosmische synthesizer wizards from cleveland oh, emeralds, have never had any of their music remixed before. let alone having the title track from their acclaimed 2010 album reworked (twice) into a floor-filling behemoth by daphni (aka dan snaith aka caribou). >we toured together in 2010 and since then ie always wanted to play their music in my dj sets. so i did my own version of this track<, says snaith. >is one of those tracks that whenever i play it i can feel the energy in the room lift.< luckily emeralds were equally enthusiastic and so this unlikely hybrid see the light of day. �or rather the dark inside of a club.

what can we say about this ep ? not much. this is a very well known house artist who wants to keep his identity secret. he sent us some parts of his old 90s house tracks and luckily they were remixed by our good friends coat of arms and breach from uk. this is a very special release for us. enjoy!

boy we couldnt resist hooking up with one of the youngest and brightest proteges in the west-coast undergound to slap out some crazy remixes of the bsu ep for yall. who is he? why, a made up sound ofcourse, or 2562 for short. steamrolling his way onto the scene in 2007, 2562 has been a mainstay from the get go, with amazing production skills and a keen ear for what rocks the house. in a very short time the 2562 name became almost synonimous for dubstep. but luckily for us theres the made up sound guise to provide us with a more mutant hybrid of slamming jak-step (and remember where you read that first). so take your pick, heres one for the heads and one for the bodies.

texas native demarkus lewis is up next on the great d3 elements label. this time, demarkus brings his signature diverse house style on this release, which features tracks from his mental notes album that only came out digitally in 2011. luckily for lovers of vinyl, d3 is putting out three of the gems from that release. first is the upfront house of without pause that is full of demarkus bumping drums, masterful combination of spacey, detroit style electronics and swirling chords that will get anyone onto the dancefloor. lady in pink also features some wonderful spacey chords, but is a more downtempo, broken beat type of affair, resplendent with computer bleeps. over onto the b side, demarkus takes us into a more spiritual and deep territory, with behind closed doors (afro main mix). the afro rhythms coupled with eman s spoken words turn this into a track that do wonders with a heaving, sweaty dance floor in the early hours. another winner for the d3 elements label.

limited edition remastered release of another wicked boogie joint from delirium records that is just as good as jagg and neddy smith from the same label and previously reissued by best record italy. this one luckily has the highly playable instrumental and the soulful vocal version both mixed by the legendary tee scott. don t sleep!

they could do weird edits or make eastern influenced dance music, collect gear and sit home or adapt library music for the dance floors. or they could get together and make the secret weapon. it doesn t really matter who they are and it doesn t really matter that it s just a demo, luckily rescued on a usb stick before their hd failed, what does matter is that it always rocks the party.

the eee ep is the all fresh debut from ensam, local vandal and core member of solkyss. born and raised troublemaker, he dropped out of school to make his way in to music. luckily he could spend his days hiding in his fathers basement which resulted in his project progressing secretly over the years granting him a distinct cinematic groove with deep and atmospheric aesthetics.

carl finlow could be regarded as one of the cornerstones of not only 20/20 vision, but also of british electronic music. his boundary pushing, electro-tinged productions under the random factor alias make for essential 20/20 listening, as does his work as 1/4 of 2020soundsystem. while this year has been about looking to the future of the label, we also felt it was important that we looked deep into our history and revisited one of our all time classic records: random factor � broken mirror. on the a side carl has prepared a new �revisted� version for this release and this is accompanied by the original version from 1999. for the remixer we thought long and hard about someone we felt would be suitable. someone with pedigree in the electro scene, who would feel as passionate as we do about making this release something truly special. there was only really one person we wanted and luckily when we contacted legowelt he was a big fan of the original track and was super keen to get onboard the project. we hope you enjoy these two pioneers of the electro scene going head to head x

nowadays we live in an era of minimally processed products, an age where electronic music is no longer a meticulous and painstaking craft but instead becomes a dish of fast-food, an easy-to-digest and cheap product. luckily, there are still musicians who refuse to enter this business circle and continue exploring, investigating all angles of this clubbing culture. joton has been following this way since the beginning of his career. he has been learning, experimenting, looking for the roots sound, and shaping its complexity until reaching a techno style full of energy and depth.

for skylax 140, damien zala, of rowtag records fame, brings the heat with a new 6 track ep. it kicks off with an absolutely mad remix of * looking for the sun* by detroit legend, anthony shake shakir. the attention to detail is clear when it comes to someone who has been in the game for so long, and the rework he has done for damiens track is no exception. * the final break* is damiens first original on the record. a skippy, staccato affair in both its percussion and its disco/funk/soul sampling. *beauty is back* is damien taking things down a jazzier route, with a piano laden jazz sample and shuffling drums to match.on the flip, * always young* is an audacious disco edit, sampling such a treasured song that many would consider untouchable, luckily, damien works his magic to make an edit which gets people moving without being obvious. the ep closes out with * emotions* and the original version of * looking for the sun*, barely recognisable from the anthony shakir remix, in the best possible way! sweet & dirty indeed, dont miss this offering by the one and only damien zala.

soul has always been a constant in wolfs musical adventures, and here they release an ep that is positively drenched in it. wolfep026 has been crafted by wolf favourite, ishmael. a multi-instrumentalist who has featured on the label in the past but is now stepping up for his first full ep. fans of wolfep017 will be familiar with his debut single *want you* that received praise from the likes of jimpster, lovebirds & ben westbeech. luckily we didnt have to wait long for more tracks as we were treated to au juju & lumo as well a remix for frits wentink. this release is his full debut ep, and is a taster of what you can expect from this exciting new addition to the pack.
