chris spero (otherwise known as uk house and techno producer glimpse) and hypercolour co-founder and producer, alex jones, return once again as dense & pika to the hotflush fold with move your body back. having crept out of the shadows back in 2011 with a collection of white labels released through their own eponymous imprint, dense & pika went on to bolster their rising profile with the release of their hotflush debut (crispy duck) which landed late last year as well as with their memorable live set at hotflushs recent boiler room takeover. there is nothing chin-strokingly complicated or needlessly over-worked about their productions. they make interesting techno aimed at the dance floor and move your body back continues with this central aesthetic. the three track ep plunders percussive depths by way of stern machine rhythms, swollen low-end grit and the echoing, anthemic elements of warehouse rave techno. the title track of the ep may already be familiar to many having appeared on their resident advisor podcast in march and is already being played out by maya jane coles, boddika and adam beyer, amongst others.

cork label basic grooves keep the focus on irish talent for their fifth release as label boss shane linehan welcomes his namesake bambrick into the fold for some well judged, atmospheric deepness. the process finds the waterford based producer veering through dark, heads down terrain though the dubby elements are complemented by a woozy melodic melancholy thanks to the gentle chords that spread out. linehan maintains the basic groove momentum on the flip with a remix that is more stripped back, lending those chords some glowing incandescence, whilst the percussion swells with sweet intensity as it progresses.

unreleased egyptian jazz: 2x45s set in a unique hand-printed fold-open pyramid! four sides of previously-unreleased ethnic mythic mystic jazz from the legendary egyptian drummer! before the re-release of his album with the cairo jazz band recently, the name salah ragab was best known to jazz fans and record collectors by way of another lp that was recorded with sun ra in the early 70s. his album >prism music unit< with the cairo jazz band was released in egypt with another by the cairo free jazz ensemble, but perhaps only salah himself knew of the other songs he had recorded at the time, but didnt make it onto these lps. the tapes lurking for decades in an old trunk, its taken until now for them to see the light of day, and we present them here as four amazing pieces of egyptian jazz on 2 seven inch singles. entombed within a hand-printed, hand-made pyramid shaped box, this is the first time in 40 years that these recordings will have come to light. ladies and gentlemen, behold the splendor that is salah ragab and the cairo jazz band!

it is with great honour that in paradisum welcome sometime border community and traum schallplatten artist ricardo tobar into the label for the fourth chapter in our fledgling story. the esoteric/carnaval ep reveals four tracks that further showcase the chilean producers unerring grasp for electronic music that combines moments of introspection with the unshakeable urge to lose yourself in the moment.
tobar is extending this plunge towards all new uncompromising techno territory from various, equally engrossing angles. pitch the rough hewn mutant beat dance of >esoteric< next to fizzing, acid tainted textures of >recuerdos< or the grinding journey through dantes inferno that is >carnaval< and its easy to see why tobar has been accommodated into the in paradisum fold.

for the fourth ep on austere, irelands slowburn are welcomed into the fold. having impressed us with releases on uzuri and elektrosouls this ep will not disappoint fans of the label to kick things off we have the the hustle which sounds like something that prescription forgot to release back in the day! next up is broken document which delivers lovely warm analogue chords and pads interlaced with an 808 groove. the b-side starts off with do it using various samples to great effect to culminate in a unique deep house sound. finishing things off in much the same territory is from another angle which again brings the warm chords and pads, but also brings to the table some really delicate synth lines to create a surreal effect.

bristols elastic dreams present its third release, with label owner a sagittariun taking a back seat on this one and introducing sheffield based dj/producer, nyra, to the fold. hot off the heels of his ep for never learnt, nyra keeps on track with two new cuts of basement techno and deep, murky dancefloor tracks. the release is bolstered by a remix from skudge on lead track >uno 10<. skudge really need no introduction, but to the uninitiated, the swedish duo have been plying their simple, raw yet powerful sound since 2009 with releases and remixes for echocord, drumcode, fear of flying, rush hour and of course their own skudge imprint.

pioneers of british dance music throughout the 90s orbital have released 8 studio albums to date and are poised to return to the fold in 2012 with a brand new studio album wonky released april 2nd 2012 globally via their own acp recordings. produced by reknowned studio-maestro flood, the record contains nine brand new recordings and features vocal duties by zola jesus and lady leshurr.

the impeccably talented organ grinder returns to the catapult records fold, with, believe it or not, only his 2nd solo single to date. the artists first sell out release obsession gained him some serious global attention with steffi charting the title in her 2011 end of year round up for clone. the organ grinder introduces vocalist jessy allen who will be a familiar name shortly with appearances on what i want by crst (forthcoming on valve records) and will also make an impression with her vocal contribution on the fourth studio album from high contrast the agony and the ecstasy on hospital records. for this outing he offers a simple and accessible track with an anthemic scope whipping up a combination of some serious teutonic funk and floor friendly, party-wise golden era of house vibes.

fvfs first signing and one of the signature sounds of the label, albert dros, aka reagen or sjaakflut, releases fvfs first 12 inch of 2012 with the searchlight ep. under his various aliases albert has seen releases on leftroom, sk supreme, monocline, front and many more. his basslines and production speak very much for themselves and he opens his account for 2012 with a release aimed firmly at packed dance floors and peak hours. the 12 inch also sees valencian duo attemporal on remix duties. attemporal released their retrolight ep on fvf with clement meyer on remix in late 2011. having clocked up releases on labels like tictactoe, resopal schallware and sleaze we are delighted to have them back in the fvf fold and on top form again.

after bringing rayko to their ever-growing retrospective fold for retro003, then following up with the infamous >street machine<, the still unmasked ruben & ra are proud to welcome montenegros revered house cat, fil lavin. already generating comparisons to house patriarchs such as chez damier, kerri chandler and ron trent to the current day likes of nicolas and graham the revenge clark, fil pursues a distinctly stateside sound reminiscent of the output of nu groove, strictly rhythm & nervous from the golden age of us house. having already hit retrospectives soundcloud page, >soul brother< is already in high demand with requests coming in on a daily basis for a release date.

7 year old spaniard alberto pascual is the latest techno talent to be welcomed into the plus 8 fold with vertigo, his debut ep for the label. a skilled dj and live performer, pascual has been producing since 2004, with over 30 releases to his name, all of which pursue a direct and powerful techno style. its much the same on vertigo, the title track of this ep which hits loopy depths immediately. dramatic fx, crunchy hats and tension mounting hisses fill out the spaces between the beats, but the militant, marching groove never wavers. truchas rancias is more reserved: economical arrangements characterise the techno eeriness this time, forever hinting something is just around the corner but never quite showing you. final vinyl cut continuous learning is more unhinged, with swirling synths, dripping water sounds and shadowy voice sounds all coming together like classic plus 8 weaponry.

the londinium ep is the latest release on uzuri recordings and welcomes chicago skyway back to the fold. not that hes been away too long, having produced a full 12 release and contributed to the from chicago turin amsterdam & dublin with love ep just last year. we also welcome hakim murphy to the label – with his credentials it was only a matter of time before our paths crossed!as the title suggests, this release was inspired, conceptually at least, by our nations capital, and its apparent that sean has spent quite enough time here to get the gist of the place, with the b-side tracks entitled traffic and noise, respectively. im sure he loves it here, really.musically, he keeps it closer to his windy city heart – very clearly reflecting his roots, in fact. as a dj and club promoter in mid 90s chicago, sean frequently shared the decks with some of the citys biggest talents at that time – cajmere, gene farris and spencer kinsey (gemini) among them, and one could say that theres an audible relief flavour to a-side, london streets, with its stripped-back, hypnotic stomp. its fitting that hakim murphy remixes the track, coming from similar roots within chicagos scene, and his own reworking retains the drawn-out essence of the original but brings a whole new hips-and-shoulders groove to the track.
