lybes dimem is a project by visual artist and musician lukas rehm. with elaborate beat structures and the use of error, the music plays with cognitive phenomena and abstraction while maintaining an emotional refuge. lybes dimem is presented in formats ranging from spatial sound experiences to synesthetic shows complementing the auditive layers with visualizations of realtime data, computer graphics and moving image. lukas rehms installative art, and compositions have been internationally presented and awarded with multiple emerging arts prices. syncleft chronem is the first album released by lybes dimem in both digital and vinyl for-mat and accompanied by a moving image artwork. the title reflects the projects interest in the potential of difference, cognitive frictions and exertion: sync variability in the processing of auditive and visual signals, syncleft the synaptic cleft, which is a crucial empty spa- ce in biological neural networks, chronem the chroneme as a theoretical unit to measure the time of an articulated sound. mathematically clean sounds juxtapose patterns and transitions familiar from the realm of organic acoustics. multi-layered noise textures ex- plore the simulated space. a tem- porary continuity is provided by percussive and melodic elements, right until the next escalation, eventually awaiting a concluding resolution. the visual language explores different phenomena and techniques of cognition inspired by the rhetorics of big science (computer graphics, discontinuity of material, pop cultural references).

group rhoda is the solo electronic music project of mara barenbaum, based out of oakland, california. the project started around 2009 with a debut album ‘out of time, out of touch’ in 2012 on night school records and ‘12th house’ in 2013 on not not fun. she is also one half of max and mara who released the album ‘less ness’ in 2013 on dark entries records. she is committed to live performance, situated within the analog synthesizer and drum machine medium. ‘wilderless’ is group rhoda’s third full length and first for dark entries records.

a crawling filtered synth opens ‘009a’, murky kick drums and syncopated high-hats join it, to create a long winding warehouse melody, these are then exchanged for the hazy sounds of white noise of ‘009b’ packed with cold eerie drones, that are met by charged hums that fizz away and bring the release to a close.

born in cameroon, vicky began banging the drums at the age of 9. by 13 he had moved onto bass and within a couple of years he was playing every night from 10pm to 5am in the castel douala cabaret. at the age of 19 vicky moved to paris to study banking and commerce and cram in even more music. he took classes at Épinay-sur-seine conservatoire music school and it was here that he met bandmates of his dikalo project. word spreads and he soon becomes one of the most sought after bass players in the afro arena. his session work features on many scenes stars, manu dibango, eko tala am, kemayo, sammy massamba, toto guillaume and many more. a chance meeting with the gibson brothers also see him play on two of their hit albums. in the 80s vicky moved to the us for spell and excels as a session bassist and touring musician. we pick up the story in 1981. with his stature as a musician and bass player riding high he takes a detour to nigeria to record with the afrodisia label in lagos. the thank u mamma album is the result. it is repressed for the first time, here in 2018 on the revitalised afrodisia label. musical proceedings open up with the heartfelt ode to his mother thank u mamma, smooth pop meets afrobeat boogie. marina driv slows things down with its smoldering jazz. side two opens with its not serious a catchy vocal number underpinned with funky guitars and striding basslines. stormy rain is lazy guitar jazz swansong. we close off the album with the ever so funky you. slick funk grooves powered along with a dose of slap bass. as a side note vicky actually plays left handed but with a upside down right handed bass. this upside-down precursor making his effortless slap playing even more impressive. vicky went on to record a two other albums and still tours and plays as an ever-in-demand session musician.

after releasing a successful archives vol.1 in 2017, italian dj and producer luca vollaro, aka electrorites, is back again with the fresh follow-up archives vol. 2 via his own label structure records. the ep is a hurricane of industrial stained energy, demonstrating a rather free and open musical inspiration and direction. the thick, dense grinding groove define the four tracks. it starts with archive 004 which features powerful repetitive sub-kicks and ends with extremely strong bangs just as if the track is exploding. distorted and mixed mechanised sounds style ctrls remix resulting a very dark adrenaline charged techno track. in archive 005, the sequences and bass loops are stunning and the last-minute banging drum shots will leave you wanting and dreaming for more. to finalize the ep, endlec remixes archive 005 where the listener fully absorbs all the harsh petite details

out 2 is a project from jeremy campbell and r. zanzibar, who have previously worked together on albums for l.i.e.s. and lectric sands under different aliases. they sound right at home on emotional response, channeling the influence of 1980s new york dancefloor hybridization into six original tracks and their counterpart dub versions. its an impeccable tribute to the forefathers of new / no / minimal wave with the right kind of funk rubbed in the groove and ample space in the mix for all the live dubbing the style demands. moving is a surefire death disco party starter, dancing hovers in a beyond the grave island boogie reverie and some airs red there heads out into exotically enhanced territory without losing that nyc grit. it s a marvelous record, with the dub versions adding new dimensions to the music rather than simply repeating the same tricks sans vocals.

a repress of our & co. ep, which was originally released in 2015. features both a rub-n-tug remix and a force of nature remix of the title track best of friends. on side a is a remix from the once new york based dj duo rub-n-tug. a2 is from the japanese dj duo force of nature. both are fitting to remix the title best of friends since we feel they are close to us. on the b side, we have the sought after original best of friends track and wine cooler bianca chandon presents & co. & co. started out as a small group of friends who surfed and skateboarded together. as they hung out in venice and shared their interests and ideas about music, sounds started to take shape. what started off with no intentions of being anything serious began to develop, inspiring music composer alberto bof, music advisor paul t. and music coordinator alex olson to think about avenues of release. inspired by a seigen ono record put out for comme des garcons in 1988 olson got the idea to release the trio s project under his brand bianca chandon. this limited 12 has embodied the spirit of the creators and the motivation of the brand to become bianca s first record release.

digital releases his second lp within 2 years called -total control-. &#8232,,,its not a massive collab fest like his 2016 lp ‘synthesis’ although, there’s a few on there with artists nomine, john b, villem and digital’s phantom audio partner, spirit. a strong jungle vibe runs right through this lp. the opening track, ‘motherland’ has crisp breaks, a bassline to die for and a haunting unforgettable vocal. other highlights are seba’s lush remix of digital & response’s, ‘silver lining’. ‘on the rockz’ sounds like a solid piece of 1998 drum and bass, ‘total control’ is superb and certainly one for the hardcore ravers, ‘dreamer’ takes you on a journey you’ve never been before. this is the second of 4 records, pressed on yellow vinyl.

dsordne (pronounced disordine) is a project from torino, italy that evolved as group out of the electronic experimental post punk project novostj in 1987. at the core of dsordne is marco milanesio, musical engineer and co-founder of the hax record label, joined by a revolving cast of musicians. their spectrum ranged from experimental to structured electro-poetry and soundtrack like instrumental electronic music. in 1987 they released their first track on a split-single with the legendary pink dots. between 1987 and 1994 they released 6 full length albums, 3 split-eps and appeared on various cassette compilations.

glyn bigga bush has been producing electronic and sample-based music since the early 90s when he formed rockers hi fi, going on to release numerous albums. since the turn of the century he has produced and dj d as biggabush as well as various side projects such as lightning head (sonar kollektiv), the dandelion set (buried treasure) and the magic drum orchestral (tru thoughts). biggas latest project sunken foal stories represents a departure from much of his other work in that it is not primarily based on beats. instead, his working method was to go with fascinating samples, accidental juxtapositions and irregular loops inspired by pioneers of sound such as faust and the audio experiments of julian house as well as early stereo test records, soundtracks and library music.

originally released back in 2011, lord giveth, lord taketh away, saw freddie gibbs team up with legendary east coast beat maker statik selektah. the project was recorded in a single day, with the sessions being broadcast out on u-stream. across the seven track ep, gibbs showcases his hyper technical gansta rap flow, stepping out of his comfort zone rapping over some classic nyc boom bap production. the ep features guest spots from trae the truth, smoke dza, termanology and more. omerta inc. will be bringing this collaborative project to vinyl for the first time. as well as featuring the seven tracks from the original project, the vinyl release will include two bonus tracks, crushin’ feelings and carry on featuring joey bada$$.

sth. notional was a short-lived project that manifested in one album back in 1992, originally released on japanese label zero corporation. yawn yawn yawn focused primarily on various balearic-friendly mixes of the title track and some other scattered pieces, and now they ve received a much-needed spruce up from archeo recordings. the dream. another reality versions of yawn yawn yawn are laid back to the extreme, revolving around delicate instrumentation and occasional threads of speech and singing. there s a mellow beat behind the g-tar cannyon mix, and the thankful mix brings a weightier groove to the table. with the other tracks adding to this utterly smooth, early 90s shake, and spread across three discs, this is the holy grail reissue collectors have been waiting for.

mikkel metal returns to copenhagen’s echocord this may with his new mini lp ‘just enough light’, comprising six originals from the danish artist. copenhagen based producer and dj mikkel metal has been a beacon of light in the danish electronic music scene and further afield for nearly two decades now, with the dub techno imprint from his hometown, echocord, being the predominant home for his output, whilst also releasing material on cologne’s kompakt, tartelet, semantica and avant roots, a telling sign of the quality embodied in his work. here though we see mikkel deliver a mini album concept in the shape of ‘just enough light’ and opener ‘awake’ perfectly sets the tone with emotive, dynamically unfolding atmospherics, tension building bass drones and spiraling dub chords subtly easing us into the project. ‘bregnan’ then stirs in some classing dub-techno tropes with billowing stab sequences, lumpy subs and off beat high hats carrying the hypnotic groove for six and a half minutes. ‘jech’ then strips things back to an almost beatless amalgamation of murky chords and modulating synth whirrs. opening the flip side of the release is ‘include’ which embraces a brighter feel via ethereal pad swells, jazztinged synth melodies and bumpy 909 rhythms before ‘konkin’ edges back into the eerie, brooding aesthetic with bubbling echoes, broken drums and menacing bass swells at its core. ‘restore’ then closes the package on a stripped-back vibe, laying focus on an ever- eveolving singular dub chord to ebb and flow around thunderous subs, kicks and bright hats.

rather than rely on their usual full band, live performance, one-room live single recording session, the making of ‘dragonz’ was a departure for the apples. a multi-studio project spanning three continents, they assembled new instrumental tracks based on loops created in the studio and presented them to a wide-ranging selection of vocal collaborators to complete the picture with, and applied this method to the capturing of longstanding live favourites as well. the concept of a “vocal album” was implemented on non-vocalist songs as well, treating the omnipresent turntables’ sample work not as the central element to the band, but rather its frontman. though containing disparate influences, guests and production methods, ‘dragonz’ is undeniably apples, might be their most focused lp to date, and it is certainly their most middle-eastern. elements of the region’s indigenous genres have always been present in the band’s work, but never has their influence been as pronounced.

hell yeahs next project is to revisit a collection of jazz covers of dance classics. back to new roots (serotonin fuelled jazz covers) was first released in 2011 by 3io, a band lead by double bassist manuel moretti and including richard maggioni on piano and matteo giordani on drums. they were veterans on the italian jazz circuit and put out a couple albums, but they are no more

this is the return of the collaborative project vofa, by sawf and anfs, on pi electronics. the athens based duo, that put out the label’s debut release, deliver another 4-tracker of their signature sound for the 5th pi record. pi05.1 is a bass line oriented composition of thrilling beauty, while pi05.2 and pi05.4 provide different takes on the main pi05 theme: one leaning closer to uk breaks influences and the other closer to industrial, hard hitting broken beats. pi05.3 offers a driving tool of distorted realities and tuning bass lines. all tracks showcase further focus on sound texture and dynamics balance, providing a perfect blend of sawf and anfs in joint forces as vofa.

initially paying tribute to the analogue absurdity, sonic diversity and sheer imagination of the early 90s dance music landscape, future four returns after a hiatus of several years, pushing into new eras, machines and ideals with connection. initially a solo project of andy meecham, the brains behind emperor machine, chicken lips, and bizarre inc., connection is the first future four release to feature the contribution of erol alkan as a permanent member, and is a coupled with a remix from i:cube. a veritable powerhouse of synths, vintage drum machines and all man-ner of effects, connection unfolds with minimal tempo and maximum impact, as sequences of unexpected electronics gradually build from every direction, each landing with the razor sharp precision associated with their composers. cascading synths overflow like fizzy drinks, pro-pelling the track along an electronic patchwork of fm synthesis and psy-chedelia. on the remix, i:cube takes the unpredictable rhythm of connection and coaxes its versatile, multiple elements into a timeless slice of boogie house. nurturing the outsider casio feel of the track under a musical heat-lamp, the always forward-thinking frenchman emerges with a cut that could easily soundtrack both sun deck and space station.
