repress - fallout ‘the morning after’, produced by lenny dee and tommy musto, was originally released in 1987 on the legendary fourth floor records. originally recorded as a 17 minute opus, the track was edited into different versions, the sunrise mix and the aftermath. the names fallout and the morning after were tommy and lenny’s personal references to a private after hours club called the rooftop on the 23rd floor of a building in new york where they played, named as a nod to the after effects of the late nights and early mornings of these parties. ‘the morning after’ crossed many genres of dance music, and was notoriously adopted by grooverider and fabio who championed it at rage, their legendary thursday night party in london. remastered for this re-issue, and also tastefully remix by nu disco producer of the moment, purple disco machine, a new lease of life awaits for this genuine classic which has truly stood the test of time.

shape-shifting post-punk quasi-legends bourbonese qualk are finally getting a bit of the shine they so richly deserve after years in obscurity, not least thanks to the retrospective compilation on mannequin back in 2015. now platform 23 are reissuing their classic album -laughing afternoon, originally released back in 1983 and having lost none of its impact. its a slippery, shape-shifting creation that veers between uneasy soundscapes and gutter-dwelling funk, with some truly visionary signal processing, electronic textures and more besides in the mix. its a crime this crew arent held in the same regard as their other early 80s post-industrial peers, but at least the wrongs are being righted now.

new york native david berrie makes a welcome return to the hot creations fold this april. the latest recruit to join as a resident for jamie jones’ paradise night in ibiza, berrie gifts us with three heavy hitting tracks, sure to set dance floors alight across the globe. airplane to madrid opens the ep with its steady groove and funk elements, underpinned by a tribal drum and old school vocal hook that culminate in a jazz influenced breakdown. on talkin’ bout, berrie utilises a fast-paced beat and bouncy, ghetto-house style vocals that lead into another intriguing breakdown. closing the ep, the bassline of acid souls gurgles beneath the female vocal building to an insatiable drop before plummeting back into the heady bass. raised in the musical melting pot of new york, david berrie draws influence from a variety of genres to create his signature style. he’s released on a number of prominent labels including cuttin’ headz, play it say it and hot creations. last year’s collaboration with jamie jones broke into the top 5 in the beatport charts and his music has been supported by some of the industry’s biggest names such as carl cox, marco carola, the martinez brothers and seth troxler. 2019 is set to be a big one for berrie, with a residency for paradise at dc10 and fresh music due to be released.

quartz rec kicks off the new year with >a man lost in time< by fragmentor. the italian, japan-based producer is a resident at mind off, tokyo, and recently started his own imprint follow the flow with a jonas kopp ep for which he delivered a stunning remix. here, he delivers two thumping acid tracks: >a man lost in time< comes first, bleeps and hisses unraveling on a booming kick, followed by >blowtorch< with its escalating frenzied acid lines on the b side. >synthetic rain< the ambient cut closing this ep illustrates even more that fragmentor is a master in creating slowly building atmospheres full of twists and eerie sounds and a producer to watch for. >a man lost in time< will be released on grey vinyl limited to 200 copies on january 21st 2019.

boka records unveils the label s 50th release, a major milestone! recalled for service for the occasion is chad dubz who last appeared on the label late last year with his 22 ounces ep, the track of the same name has now racked up over 100k streams via spotify. chad continues to make solid progress on this ep, building and improving on previous output.

the tel-aviv based label parallax brings yogg and pharaoh together for their 8th vinyl release. it starts off with the epic title track, a laid-back bassy groove surrounded by crispy hits and shifted electrical noises, building up to a climatic second part which fuses a lot of the producers unique soundscapes, all on a hypnotic pounding rhythm section. this is followed by a quirky broken electronica short, -ompti-, chopped-up modular sweeps and lush melodic hints create this uniquely structured a2 track. the b-side starts of with -maurice-, a more direct and intensive techno cut, which also breaks into an energetic – wobbly 2nd section which also features many of their unique sound explorations in a dramatic final section. b2, -abadei- has a deeper buildup approach for most of it, starting from a pure yet uneven rhythm section, and growing into a mass of counterparts and layers of noise and crackle. the ep ends with an unlisted locked-groove, an intense and dirty industrial-techno groove.

amazing minimalism grooves! kayf is very pleased to publish its first ever vinyl release. this very special 3 track ep is produced by the labels founder artur nikolaev. the a-side track, sex under the sun, takes us on a sensual sojourn building from basic, elementary acid stabs and fractured beats that gradually fire up into a punchy, funked-up dance floor stomper. break showcases nikolaevs infectious production style, with complex broken beat patterns licking and stabbing through an uplifting, tropical baseline. completing the b-side coupling, sex under the moon is forged from similar production style as with the first two tracks, but is more intimate and increases both in intensity and tension, prolonging a climactic build-up which really hits the spot.

in the late 80s i started listening to uk radio stations when i was a little kid and i instantly fell in love with the acid sound and rave movement that was portrayed on those uk dance shows. when i got old enough to attend clubs and warehouse raves, to experience the movement first hand, it was a nobrainer for me that the music and the lifestyle was my call. lately…. in my dj sets and when producing music… i have been time travelling back to those days. back to how i remember the music i fell so deeply in love with and that is exactly what you hear on this “done/undone” release. for the “done” track i teamed up with cari golden to have a female spoken word and a great message to build the music around. i always prefer to do original vocal recordings rather than using samples. cari understood 100% what i was after and i love the lyrics and execution by her. the spoken word is centered, very clear and deep to contrast the constantly building intensity of the acid patterns and thumping beats. “undone” is instrumental and has a more straight forward flow to it. it’s quite simple although the shifting groove patterns might surprise some. i was torn between two different acid patterns and decided to drop one of them as a surprise change. playing the track in clubs i quickly learned that the change of dynamics had a great effect. both tracks have been wrapped in dark-themed chords and atmosphere. both tracks have my take on the sound i fell in love with years ago and obviously still love today. i hope you like what you hear.
