shape-shifting post-punk quasi-legends bourbonese qualk are finally getting a bit of the shine they so richly deserve after years in obscurity, not least thanks to the retrospective compilation on mannequin back in 2015. now platform 23 are reissuing their classic album -laughing afternoon, originally released back in 1983 and having lost none of its impact. its a slippery, shape-shifting creation that veers between uneasy soundscapes and gutter-dwelling funk, with some truly visionary signal processing, electronic textures and more besides in the mix. its a crime this crew arent held in the same regard as their other early 80s post-industrial peers, but at least the wrongs are being righted now.

autonomia, first released only on cd in 1993, was mostly a solo project of simon crab with the aid of christoph fringeli of praxis, recorded after a 2-month tour in the usa and europe. typically bourbonese qualk, this album delivers the opposite of the listeners expectations, breaking the mold set by the two previous albums, my government is my soul and unpop. autonomia sets out in a completely different direction of harsh electronic no compromise techno and has become a classic in the field, making this vinyl release well overdue!

*lies*, a track from the now-defunct uk experimental group bourbonese qualk, get new life by way of a vinyl release on mannequin records with ancient methods on edit and remix duties. the release will contain also the original short-time version.

mannequin records is proud to present a double lp and cd compilation of one of the most important industrial bands active during the 80s in the uk. bourbonese qualk were an experimental music group from england who where active from 1979 until 2003. throughout this period they had a number of different line-ups but this album concentrates on the period from 1983 until 1987 with the trio of simon crab, julian gilbert and steven tanza. during this time the group released five albums: laughing afternoon, hope, the spike, preparing for power and the self-titled bourbonese qualk on their own recloose organisation and new international records labels.
