more abstract, forward thinking house music courtesy of transatlantyk. mondo hehe is the fifth ep in a growing catalogue of the label and is one of its most adventurous offerings yet. lutto lento (real name lubomir grzelak) is an experimental musician from warsaw, poland, who specialises in dark, spooky, uneasy music that s hard to categorise. apart from running two experimental cassette only labels (sangoplasmo and dunno recordings), lutto lento records music for contemporary theatre and forward thinking european labels like ftd and where to now? he is equally inspired by avant-garde and surreal sounds from the bygone eras as well as raw house and techno music of today. his music tends to absorb the listener into a parallel, imaginary world, where sounds of a lamenting cry of a trumpet (b2) and a voice counting numbers on top of the rolling exotica style bongos (a2) are as important as jacking chicago house drums (b1) and energetic basslines (a3). from the jumping beats of the title track, to the late night deep roller casino , the * mondo hehe ep* is a superb collection of non-generic house music that sounds as good at a club, as it does at home.

arranged by godin, taurelle the original trakc was written by georg christian lehms, composed by bach and adapted from bach cantata widerstehe doch der sünde bwv 54. here bach’s church cantata for solo voice meets languid gainsbourg & birkin, albeit in german, with exquisite choir and strings. nicolas godin says i wanted songs on contrepoint, to act like poles that hold up a tent. this piece starts with a very strange chord, which was avant garde for its day. bach’s scores are outside any rules, which i wanted to exploit. i also wanted the lyric in german because no one expects german to sound sexy and cool. the main singer is gordon tracks. the other voice is dorothée de koon, a friend of a french artist i know - they both have german blood.

smalltown supersound released the idjut boys album ‘versions’, a collection of avant dub/disco jams, on the 28th of august on cd, lp and digital. this 12&#8243, is the second 12&#8243, single lifted from the album (the first featured remixes by bjørn torske and prins thomas). all the tracks on this 12&#8243, are different versions of the tracks on the album. this is classic idjut boys freeform dub/disco.

vactrol park is an honest outpouring of thematic obsession, a celebration of championed studio components and the mastery of their nuance, an avant garde collaboration between kyle martin (land of light, spectral empire) and guido zen (gamers in exile, brain machine). simply entitled i (the first of a 2 part series), this debut ep opens the door to a world of ebb and flow, layers of oscillation falling in and out of sync, keeping us on the brink of vertigo and, as cliché as it may sound, we find solace in its chaos. this homogeneous release plays with the notions of systems as beautifully symbolized mario hugo s capsule of cardiologyyet another visually arresting module in the esp institute catalogue. some music is made for drugs, some is made on drugs, these tracks simply are drugs.

hedonism is an ethical theory that pleasure, in a sense of satisfaction of desires, is the highest good and proper aim of human life, and this seems to also be hdnsm’s ultimate musical objective. their first release debuted as a kickstarter of “variant ep” v.a. series, showcasing three very different yet highly contemplative creations from cumsecade, anestie gomez and man spider. hdnsm flips the coin and for the second episode of “variant” series it lands on two very solid, incredibly moody and extensive works from fresh talents shcaa and cleymoore. the ep features two very different tracks yet they share the same minimalistic core. both works are blessed with intricate micro-drum arrangements for those feeling groove hungry whilst still standing tall in the experimental abstract realm pleasing those who crave unusual frequencies. a-side’s “masquée” is one of shcaa’s typical rides between sound and silence and it is hard to find another artist who understands sound gaps between grooves better than shcaa does. with his signature vocals and an incredibly delicious duality between acoustic instrumentalism and electronic slamming, this is a groovy, highly deep, very intelligently arranged piece. the flip-side “nebula”, signed by pluie/noir’s boss cleymoore, is a tip of an iceberg when it comes to the art of stripping down. in an apparently thin canvas of minimal drum arrangements there’s a vast amount of sound frequencies underneath a steady ever-kicking groove, tricking your mind into thinking that you’re hearing less than you actually perceive. nebula is hypnotic and dense but focused and sophisticatedly groovy. like the repetitive vocals you’ll hear throughout the b-side, this v.a. sticks to your mind like an addiction of some sort and pushes hdnsm to a new standard of avant-garde and forward-thinking attitude. as before, this vinyl only release comes in a gorgeous cover featuring a painting from max binski and the number of copies available is limited
