Here Bach’s church cantata for solo voice meets languid Gainsbourg & Birkin, albeit in German, with exquisite choir and strings. Nicolas Godin says I wanted songs on Contrepoint, to act like poles that hold up a tent. This piece starts with a very strange chord, which was avant garde for its day. Bach’s scores are outside any rules, which I wanted to exploit. I also wanted the lyric in German because no one expects German to sound sexy and cool. The main singer is Gordon Tracks. The other voice is Dorothée de Koon, a friend of a French artist I know - they both have German blood.
