for this album, ebo joined forces with 12-piece band ‘the pelikans’ — from the cape coast region of ghana — led by bessa simmona, with rhythm guitarist fifi orleans lindsay. a genuine ‘holy-grail’ of ghanaian music and one of ebo’s most saught-after.
the album was released on the small abookyi label. named after a nightclub they played in called pelikans, and sung in english and fante, this was the first album where ebo sang on tracks, such as the classic ‘come along’, on which he also plays keyboard. this song clearly defined a new direction in highlife and has become a ghanaian funk anthem. ‘come along’ formed the basis of sadat x’s ‘remember that’ hip hop jam from 2011.

the last essential outing of 2017 for the play it say it label is from legendary dj and producer harry romero. globally acclaimed and recognised star harry romero has been a driving force in the scene since the 90s. he’s released on such seminal labels as sex mania, power music and strictly rhythm, but also contemporary imprints like ovum and defected. never far from the dance charts and an inductee into pete tong s hall of fame, harry’s own bambossa records is another fine chapter in his definitive story. here he shows off his current sound across three fresh tracks. opening up the ep is the arresting ‘mother earth,’ a percussive and tribal number with pinging kicks and loose hits all encouraging you to cut shapes. bright synths rise up through the mix to bring some tension and drama and crowds are certain to react with hands in the air. the masterfully mangled ‘lesson on swing’ is a vibrant brew of skewed synths and surging bass, vocal yelps and wonky chords that will freak out any floor. it’s another robust and full fat tune from the studio of harry romero. last of all is ‘scatter’, a high-pressure tune with characteristically big drums and fat bass all overlaid with vocal effects that build the intensity. hooky little synth motifs and metallic percussion all add to the steaminess and ensure this a huge anthem in the making. this is a top trio of tunes that are imbued with all the knowledge and know how of a real house legend

following the hypnotic ‘what’s in your head’ ep in 2016, archie hamilton returns to moscow records with his first solo ep on the imprint since the release last year. since finishing 2016 with a place in ra s top 100 djs poll, he’s been touring the world, had a summer residency at amnesia and released another massive ep on fuse. an integral part of the stellar ascent of the brand, and founder at tastemaker label initiatives moscow records, moss co. and arkityp, he is an artist very much in control of his rise. the record opens with confusion, an out and out anthem which has been tearing up dance floors across the globe all summer. a trademark bassline drives the track forward as stabs build, tight percussion cuts through and a repeating vocal enters. then when the track drops it shifts the mood completely, causing any dance floor to bump uncontrollably. dos equis is something different altogether. minimalistic percussion and a tight sub lay the foundations for a funky bass guitar line. warming pads meet rhodes keys and out of nowhere a beautifully subtle vocal line appears. as the track breaks down, a mind bending synth line takes the listener out of their state of reflection. the title track on the flip is a classic piece of groovy hamilton weaponry. a positive mood that bounces along to a whispering voice in the background. the track develops as lush chords permeate the groove, soaking the dance floor in the last of the summer sun to create a euphoric crescendo.

b1/ jean-michel gascuel s dominus this french composer who collaborated with pierre schaeffer was also a great lyricist working for the likes of vivian vee or suzy andrews, and a fashion designer. with its latin touch, this track is a little ufo standing out of the rest of his french productions, so let us be blessed by dominus domine dominarum.
b2/michel robidoux les planètes this track by composer michel robidoux featured on a kidisk with a book called -visitons les planètes avec goldorak- and was released in canada in 1980. this incredible space jam was chosen as a macaroon for this new ep – our tribute to an amazing composer who wrote more than 325 songs and even collaborated with leonard cohen.

some records are timeless and never age - -happiness is just around the bend- by the main ingredient is one of those records. originally released in 1974, -happiness- was a record before it s time - had it been released a year later it would undoubtedly have been one of the first 12- discs - so as a result, most discerning djs at the time chose to play the album cut. the song is actually a cover of uk prog-jazz band brian auger s oblivion express s version from the year before but main ingredient took the song to a whole new level and, 44 years later, it has become one of the most revered dance tunes of all-time. main ingredient were unlucky with 12- releases, which is why we re delighted to give -evening of love- it s first-ever 12- release! once again this was a 1981 album track which years later it would become a modern soul anthem and rightfully be regarded as one of their best records. fully remastered on limited edition 180 gram heavyweight vinyl.

as the head of berlin s eminently respected oye records, it s no surprise markus -delfonic- lindner would come correct with the edit heat for his first outing on razor-n-tape. the record starts out smooth and summery with the flow, a club-ready rework of an underground jamaican disco classic, followed by the furious afro-boogie stomp of -spf.- on the b-side an extended percussion jam builds ferociously and finally drops into a lovely lesser-known revamp of a killer disco anthem. music is love indeed!

al zanders makes his debut on phonica’s main label after a sold-out release on sister label karakul and also wolf music, blind jack’s journey and his own az label. the double a-side kicks off with ‘there is rhythm’, a percussive house anthem with plenty of momemtum, a tom-tom bassline and ‘rhythm’ vocal samples and that’s even before the sun-soaked pads and euphoric synth stabs come in.

clergy returns for its 9th instalment with a club ready ep of serious weapons from label mainstay, and one half of works unit, reflec. the four track release opens with acid response , in which reflec has combined a tough rhythm section with a growling 303 to create a high energy roller guaranteed to keep the dance floor moving. continuing on this trend of heavy hitting rollers, osmosis is a drum track through and through, which incorporates dark and sweeping atmospherics into the groove true to reflec’s form.
the b side sees host to canyon, a peak time clergy anthem with heavy, driving drums complimented with a spacey and emotional pad on the breakdown. clergy 009 is rounded off by a broken edit of canyon which exchanges the driving kicks for a fragmented rhythmic style, a nod to the uk roots of reflec’s musical style.

the patrick adams managed group black ivory scored a number of hits in the mid 70s, two of their most sought after are here together on one 12inch. the paradise garage and loft anthem mainline, penned by prolific disco producer leroy burgess has seen it s fair share of bootlegs but it s available here officially licensed and remastered for the first time since it s original release in 1976. fans of ron hardy may be familiar with the break from the b side cut walking downtown on saturday night as it feature heavily in his sets from the legendary music box in chicago. presented on heavyweight 180g vinyl.

as comfortable being played after manuel göttschings e2-e4 as right before a terekke lo-fi house anthem, it is laced with the melancholy of an early morning post-rave comedown. yet for all the references and name-checking, its a record that is hard to compare to anything else, past or present.

poker flat label boss and genuine dance music legend steve bug teams up with langenberg for this excellent two track ep. langenberg has released an unfathomable number of dancefloor fillers under various monikers on labels such as drumpoet community, mule, ovum or styrax leaves and recently released his debut album central heated house on dessous. langenberg is also one half of the project ribn. chord cluster has summer anthem written all over deep yet euphoric, spacy yet danceable, and ultimately a deeply emotive piece of house music that will bring smiles to faces all year. the rhythm track is tight yet remains loose and funky, while the pads and synths dip into just the right amount of acid to keep the ravers lost in the moment. the teaze treads similar ground arpeggiated pulses lead the arrangement, while a chicago influenced groove brings a shuffle to proceedings the joy in the track is evident it s clear the guys were having a lot of fun in the studio.

hell yeah is back with more beach ready and boat party styled summer tunes, this time from riccio. this italian producer has long been making essential edits, off kilter grooves and soul kissed house sounds that demand to be played loud and these new ones are no different. described by the label boss as balearic big beat, this ep kicks off with afro chemy, a scorching seven minute tune that builds on a bed of fat drums. the scattered percussion is loose and organic and when the funky bass and colourful xylophone sounds comes in you can t help but cut loose. add in a sexy trumpet line and you have the sound of summer distilled into seven sensational minutes. funky cave will get any party started with its old school drum breaks and cymbal splashes sounding like the ocean when you plunge in on a hot day. busted bass lines add a certain fatness and cosmic keys and steamy guitar licks make this another perfect outdoor anthem. last of all is the blissed out heather, one to drop at sundown after a long day s dancing. the beats are warm and lumpy, the synths smear out to the horizon like gently breaking waves and soulful leads really get your heart swelling. proper.

monumental house anthem alert! another classic jammer from 1992 lifted straight from the strictly vaults. this one s huge. phuture aka acid house pioneers spanky and dj pierre (with a little help from roy davis jr) turn in a driving, acidic monster in true wild pitch style. probably the only record that begins with a sinister voice saying this is cocaine speaking before diving head-long into one of the best anti-drug house records ever. absolutely brilliant. bubbling 303 basslines and cavernous handclaps combine with a funked out, dubbed out synth line that just doesn t stop. phuture will survive, and they weren t lying when they said that as this record (among too many others they had a hand in) still rock today. yep, still fresh. tried and tested, often imitated, never bettered. phuture are the originals. open up your eyes (and ears). this one s a tasty 2017 reissue and remaster, featuring all 4 mixes as per the original release way back when. essential stuff here. you simply need this one.

running back will mark its fifteenth anniversary with the release of its first label compilation, the running back mastermix, in september. as befitting the celebration of a landmark year in the life of gerd jansonÆs widely adored imprint, janson has invited one of house musicÆs original & greatest proponents of the mastermix, nycÆs tony humphries, to curate and mix the cd & digital editions of the compilation, accompanied by an unmixed double-lp which features a handful of the compilations rare & exclusive cuts. the mastermix is a timely reminder of what has made running back endure and remain at the top of many house music fansÆ favourite label lists for over a decade. beginning with todd terjeÆs blockbuster æragyshÆ and traversing tracks from across the labelÆs history, it includes contributions from long time label regulars alongside more recent additions and reminders of some of rbÆs best reissues. label mainstays tiger & woods, matthew styles, redshape and leon vynehall all appear, alongside mr g, paul woolford and recent breakthrough artists shan, jex and roy camanchero. tiger & woodsÆs ædonÆt hesitateÆ appears on vinyl for the first time, while the dixon edit of precious systemÆs anthem æthe voice from planet loveÆ will be available on wax again after only appearing on a super limited 12&#8243,,,, run the first time around. the choice of tony humphries to mix the compilation is a significant one.

emmanuel’s “rave culture” is a record that pushes the boundaries of techno to another level. “rave culture” is his first full-length on the label bringing 2x12” round of wax. ten cuts that are committed to fill a space in the rave scene that no one else has done in terms of power, experimentation, work of soul and most of all showing respect for the old-school way of doing things. this lp is his largest achievement yet and aims to showcase who he is.
emmanuel directs the listener to unknown territory keeping them very concentrated on a rave scenario, but also giving them different reasons to think, act & explode - all with the right balance. deadly floor massacre weapons and well crafted heavy bass works elevate to a modern way of thinking as well as challenging the dancer to think forward and get inspired.
rave has never been so alive and this is the testimony of it all.

with the second release noland tracks moves from nigeria to poland: non human persons saturn melancholia is an early song of the polish band based on guitar & voice + processor, recorded in warsaw some years ago. with their remix gebrüder teichmann turned the song into a sacral techno anthem. a deep and dark trip with nico in the heart and mdma in the blood. the b-side features the original track plus a beautiful hand carved image by brenda alamilla.

on the prowl appears to be on a roll with its new found artists. following up robotalcos success on the previous otp, giorgio lands himself in anthem territory. the a1 track >more heart< is big, catchy, and totally feel good house vibes with disco styled horn flourishes. the a side inside cut >basement 6d22< takes us near kerri chandler with delayed brassy chord stabbing and long organ pads. flipping the record over reveals a stunning slo mo disco house workout, filled with jam style organ riffs and amazing synth horn parts. for b2 we get a perscription style deep house track with all the right dark drifting chords. excellent release.
