ten years ago, we are your friends reached our ears and pushed justice to the front of the scene, a young french duo signed by pedro winter on the label he had just created: ed banger records. the record that followed, +, was an album of condensed jerky electro, of disco reminiscences and heavy metal energy, with unstoppable tunes like ‘.a.n.c.e, stress and phantom, and its videos, allowed justice to follow the 90s french touch and its filtered disco loop. since the release of their debut album in 2007, justice has been tirelessly touring the world by bus, road festival to festival and concerts all over throughout the planet. since their first tour, the band developed a powerful stage design that they polished and magnified throughout the years and the gigs. the wall of vintage marshall amps front of the stage, an imposing cross, impressive light shows, and the sound of justice totally revisited for the live shows.

dubfire and miss kittin have scored another big hit in the form of their second collaboration ride, the follow-up to the much-loved anthem exit. now, many destroyed dancefloors later and they’re unleashing a big pack of remixes to sit alongside their two original versions. solomun may best known for big melodies and hooks, but his remix boldly displays his affinity for heads down techno. a beast of a track, it centers around ticking percussion and pulsating synth delays with a throbbing low end. minimal in approach, maximal in aesthetic, it’s a no-nonsense groove. matthew dear dons his audion guise to remind us how instrumental he was in formulating that oddball techno sound a decade ago, making good use of the vocals in the heady breakdowns and matching them with unsettlingly wavering synth sirens and an almost tribal bass stomp. it’s full of atmospheric touches and pulls off a big room feel without resorting to cliches. depeche mode, erasure and yazoo legend vince clarke is a personal hero of dubfire’s, making his appearance on this package all the more of a special, rare treat. his chunky house groove is decked out with rolling congas, electro arpeggios and a yearning, bluesy guitar lick. french star djedjotronic has himself remixed depeche mode, and his version rounds off the package with throbbing low end, harrowing synths, techy percussion and brooding reese bass swells. with four very different mixes to choose from, this is an immense package that is set to cause havoc on dancefloors worldwide for some time to come.

3 years ago, superpitcher made this mesmerizing remix of joakim s cover of neil young s on the beach. the buzz was instant, with djs from dixon to tim sweeney, dj tennis to mike simonetti asking us for the files of this extended deep techno cut. 3 years later we re finally releasing it as a joint crowdspacer / hippie dance release with an additional 20min long (!!) incredible ambient mix.

phonograph music is back with a 4 tracker by anthropous anonymous. four cuts that embody a poetic approach to dance music, trough deep house, balearic and tribal. a few months ago, in the time and space of a few impromptu sessions, an ep was conceived and produced. not much was planned, but the voice and the keyboard notes our dear brazilian friend roberto coelho hit, gave the whole thing its not so but quite ambiguous form and meaning. soon after that, the music just flowed…

they are dangerous is the second song released by senator gary. the riddim was build by the late great keyboard player winston wright (1944-1993) and the vocal was recorded at creative sound studio. the tune was produced by neville reid who died a few years ago. senator gary is also called imara, abbasani and now he is voicing under the name of i-maa-raa. so the quest to find him was not so easy, thanks to marshall neeko for the help.

picking up where they left off three years ago, modern heads, the much-respected collaboration between gianluca meloni and dino sabatini, are back with a dynamic and intriguing four track ep. the duo go straight in here with the club-ready athena. throughout this track, tight percussive elements wind in and around one another, creating an ever-changing rhythm that you can only just hold onto. under this, tense synths pulse away, producing an opaque and insular atmosphere. next up, eumaeus lightens the mood somewhat, providing clarity with a distinct opening drum pattern. this mood doesnt last long though, as indiscernible, haunting vocals begin to echo in the distance, gradually moving closer and further in the mix as sharp pads swoosh either side. side b of the record opens with the deepest and longest track of the ep, eurycleia. simple yet unrelenting drums frame this hypnotic sci-fi episode, through which otherworldly screeches and rumbles reverberate over the twinkling sounds of machines. eurycleias atmosphere continues straight into the final track, laertes theme. this beatless piece takes eurycleias exploratory mood and extrapolates it over five and a half minutes, resulting in what feels like the perfect soundtrack to a glacial expedition in alien territory. as an ep this is a complete and coherent package, a perfect extension to modern heads previous work. the sound palette is familiar, yet refined, developed upon and taken further. the old beggar is undeniably worth the wait for anyone with a taste for the extraterrestrial.

cgi records is extremely proud to be presenting the new ep from oakland via-bermuda based artist russell e.l. butler. i m dropping out of life are 4 cuts of essentialist dance music that can provide an ecstatic escape from the drudges of professional life for all who so rightly seek it. as russell himself elaborates, the title has been on my mind a lot, since i almost lost my life in the ghost ship fire and watched as many of my friends lost theirs. i came up with the title several months ago, in fact 2 of the tracks were shopped in a producer s group that johnny (nackt) and chelsea (cherushii) were a part of, both of whom i lost in the fire. this release is about a commitment to life. the life that i refer to dropping out of, is a life where dreams are put on hold, where concessions are made in order to just survive. but that comes at a cost, one that is far too great for me to pay at this point. i wrote this poem, it ll come as an insert with the record.

six years ago, claremont 56 boss paul ‘mudd’ murphy tried to track down via his dj network, former freeez band-members john rocca and andy stennett to license pink rhythm’s “melodies of love”, for one of the originals compilations. they didn’t show up on the radar.
earlier this year, however, out of the blue, stennett got in touch with murphy. for much of the last two decades, he’d been living on a remote island off orkney, but was now pursuing music again.

coling strange lands on lies.. going to hit hard, this one..tip! collin strange has a long and storied history in the new york city underground music scene of the nineties. from owning a record shop in the east village, to working at distributers, to playing in bands of all sorts, to producing music alone, strange was around at one of the most vibrant (and transitional) times in the l.e.s., just on the cusp of guliani s culture crackdown which choked the life out of the city, forcing many to leave. currently located in seattle, strange has picked up where he left off years ago plugging in the gear and churning out blistering acid cuts with a very d.i.y. edge that brings to mind drop bass network, unit moebius, or free party french acid of old. coming full circle these tracks are completely at home on l.i.e.s. and will undoubtedly thrash any soundsystem in sight. play at maximum volume for total disruption

nancy azzurro comes out of nowhere. well, that’s not entirely true—lovefingers met her about 10 years ago on the beach near her home on the island of sardinia—but in terms of our musical orbit, she is a very private artist, creating only the purest music, straight from the heart. these three gorgeous songs were produced during her young adulthood and would become secret weapons for a handful of djs she’d meet over the following years. still standing the test of time today, they’re now finally seeing a proper release. side-a’s grace invites us into nancy’s world where disco and house collide—the live drums, percussion and bassline hold down a blanket of synth strings and wah-wahs. halfway through this epic enters a piano hook of the highest order, an emotional rush that brings together everything we love on the dancefloor, guaranteed to induce goosebumps. on side-b, she rounds out the release with the dreamlike, percussive and yugo-tinged illustrations & the large, and closes with the title track teen bee, a loopy cowbell-driven dive into the deep, filled with luscious sweeping chords and meandering keys. the esp institute is honoured to close out 2016 (one seriously heavy year) with such a beautiful and cohesive release. thank you and goodnight.

nyc loft trax exploded onto the scene a year ago with a white label containing unreleased dat tape archives from the 1990 s. people lost their minds and it proceeded to sellout of shops in what seemed like minutes! with anything that is from an unknown lost world you have your doubters, but those that know could hear and feel the validity of these authenthic tapes. you seriously could not capture the vibe that obviously was witnessed on that record. the label continued to dig into various sources to release all types of unreleased and amazingly good records. so with the integrity we see this label exercise get excited as this is another selection of lost yet found 1990 s dat tape trax! this is the real deal, let s not kid ourselves now. lots of hot heat on this one containing deep, dubs and disco! side note: the city in particular has a nu groove records story attached to it. basically it is the instrumental of an unreleased remix. that s all we have been told on that one. interesting! grab this now! expect this to go fast!

weve waited really too long to release this ep. these tracks were given to musique risquée more than 10 years ago and waited since then on harddrive before they got rediscovered on a boozy night in tokyo. they have not aged a bit, fresh as when they were given to us. maybe we werent ready then. but we are now and hopefully you are too.

berlin-cologne based duo atlantik is well known for incredible ravish live sets. people go ballistic! georg and clemens played their set more than three years ago on one of the parties and everybody instantly felt in love with it. atlantik has got a residency at the world famous sisyphos berlin where they set up their impressing analog machine park on a regular basis. the snö ep contains two original tracks plus a crispy remix by feines tier friend schlepp geist.

blumoog music is again among you with two really great producers on the electronic scene. the second chapter is produced in collaboration with one of the pioneers of new york s electronic/techno music, famous for his historical label proper nyc. steve stoll wanted to collaborate on this project with m.r.e.u.x. even him a famous electronic music s producer, together they blend in this e.p the origin and the evolution of the techno music, created with heart, passion and analog instruments like it was in the 90 years. the lp includes acoustics and settings what are unparalleled in their style, perfect for the blumoog review, an e.p that really can t miss in your vinyl library, especially be carefull to the fragile heart person. the two new york man s tracks are charming and penetrating at once, with the only style of steve stoll, who gives ourselves techno emotions of high level from 20 years ago. the other three tracks are proposed by m.r.e.u.x. they contains psychedelic and power with a big style. all is accompanied from his known detailed musical elegance. he has also created an intro bonus track with analog machines that s electrifying. welcome in the blumoog s future. another nice shot for blumoog music, good listening and always remember: the electronic music will never end!

cottam s ruff draft label makes a logical move and turns to a long-serving champion of gritty, soul-powered house jams from the tough side. dj nature may have made his name many moons ago, but he proves to be as relevant as ever on this killer two-track release. -alfred- is a tightly wound box jam that manages to maintain tension throughout without needing to pander to the release part of the process, sounding all the more exciting for it. -blood on your hands- meanwhile finds nature heading into the scuffed, soul-sampling territory he s most at home in, and the ensuing rumble of off-key funk is impossible to refute.

lessismore (formerly lessismorecordings) was launched 10 years ago, and has been on hold for a few years. at the time the transition from vinyl to digital didn’t feel right and now that the vinyl market is coming up again the love and faith to release a beautiful product (vinyl with cool artwork) is back. this 10 year anniversary is a good reason to revive from hibernation state and to start sharing great music again. the first few releases from the relaunch will represent re-releases of the strongest ep’s from the back catalogue with remixes by respected artists.

10 years ago the29nov films was started in a small village in southern germany. thousands of videos and millions of views later sebastian kökow and kevin paschold have become one of the most sought after video producers in electronic music - mostly for industrial-leaning techno, but also for all other kinds of electronic music. to celebrate their 10th anniversary the29nov has finally gathered a few of their favourite artists and they all have contributed to a compilation, which will be released on 2 double 12-es, one out in november 2016, the other one to follow soon.

hypercolour round off a busy year that has seen recent releases from the likes of kerrier district, gary gritness, roman flugel, dmx krew and outboxx. and in their 10th anniversary year, the label close 2016 with the heavyweight pairing of mathew jonson & sebastian mullaert. two summers ago, with no distinctive aims or deadlines, jonson was invited to come and work with mullaert and stayed for 5 days in the exceptionally beautiful surroundings of one of swedens national parks

hot casa records present togo soul 70 (selected rare togolese recordings from 1971 to 1981). a treasure-trove of rare and unusual recordings mostly recorded in lomé during the 70’s, a fusion of traditional voodoo chants, raw soul and afro jazz. hot casa records selected 13 tracks, a snapshot of some hundreds of rare and often forgotten tapes from the most prolific, professional and exciting phase of the country’s recording history, including international stars like bella bellow (who even performed to maracana stadium in brazil), or roger damawuzan, compared as the james brown from lomé, and forgotten tapes and brilliant songs in mina, kabyié and fon languages. many of the tracks featured here are peppered with innovation and experimentation highlighting how diverse the music scene in togo was at the time, even if the political context influenced their creation.

the two french friends, siler & dima , have collaborated on phonogramme imprint to present you their 2nd release « friends chip » ep. a first release almost 2 years ago on their own label, popcorn records, siler & dima , took a little break from producing. when the two of them finally got back in the studio, they were unsure exactly what would result, but both wanted a return to their background and the music they like to work together. a music based on sampling, with a melting pot of jazzy & funk soul influences, from moodymann to gil scott heron or donny hataway. the result is here, with 3 groovy tunes, with a strong jazz touch, influenced downbeat of the 90’s. this friends chip release is also the fruit of several collaborations. in « the hunters » you can easily recognize the unique and sexy voice of chez damier, a key influence of the french duo. in “memoory” ,the young & talented paul cut brought his keyboard science , and le loup, one of the main highlight of the french scene, appears on the last track, « willie hutch”. to bring his music knowledge and groove to the original. the result is a beautiful ep truly “friendship”

eshone (donnie valdez) is a 31 year-old graphic designer, music producer and dubstep dj from albuquerque, new mexico now living in poland. eshone has performed in twenty states and several countries, including: canada, denmark, poland, the netherlands, and slovenia. donnie s earliest musical memories were his electric guitar playing days and listening to heavy-metal bands from twenty-five years ago. learning this instrument and listening to heavy-metal expanded donnie s musical horizons to signal processing and sound manipulation. armed with technical knowledge, donnie shifted his focus to music production in 2004, specifically, drum and bass. eshone makes tunes quickly because of his innovative production techniques and instant application of his craft. his frenetic production pace is closely related to his high-energy live three deck sets. donnie learned how to mix in 2003 and had plans on becoming a turntablist. currently, donnie prefers to mix and blend his productions, which focus on heavy basslines and anthemic grooves while keeping a dark vibe and gritty texture. donnie s love of nature and music gave him incentive to create his record label, elk beats. the elk is very similar to donnie s music, internet presence, and online persona: peaceful, present, and powerful. donnie enjoys spontaneous activities, such as: fly fishing, skateboarding, and snowboarding. his other passion is music, and eshone s productions are custom-made for large rooms with low-lights, loud sound systems, and an intense emotional experience.

makam returns to dekmantel records with his first full-length album for the amsterdam based label. blankens ongoing search for fresh sounds, textures and rhythms has lead him to than sadet, a gorgeous piece of work that takes his sound into new directions. that sadet displays a refinement of makams sound. the music is highly tactile, with an emphasis on the surroundings of the environment in which it was created. blanken: than sadet is a secluded beach on an island in thailand. a mysterious atmosphere haunts it. its windy and the weather is always a bit worse compared to the rest of the isle. there are many cliffs and you cant swim because the waves are too high. four years ago i visited than sadet for the first time and ive been coming back ever since. at one point i decided to bring my studio equipment. for a week, i dedicated my days to making music. those sketches formed the basis of the album.

the 4th moment records installment brings us an intriguing collaboration between the labels owner, barac, and the french electronic composer lyonel bauchet.
stretching on over 12 minutes, buchla market unveils the symbiotic beauty born when these 2 creative energies collided in the studio: barac’s signature tension building percussion as the perfect high contrast background for lyonel’s buchla electronic symphonia pieces. flipping the record we find pavane, the uptempo version of this collaboration: wind like hisses lost in the crisp techno patterns, broken only by outworldly analog reverbs. moment 004 is a bridge between don buchlas electronic visions, started over 50 years ago and what electronic music has transformed into in our times.

it would be fair to say that hypercolour, the uk label founded by alex jones and jamie russell, have come a long way since the label’s inception 10 years ago.
from humble beginnings, to a roster of artists spanning across continents, genres, styles, and sounds, the label curates a very special 16 track compilation album to celebrate ten years of operation, and to capture the essence of the label’s ethos and energies that have been at the forefront of the label’s output in recent times.

a boogie classic from 81 on the legendary sam label out of new york city! k.i.d. is the production pseudonym of british library record stalwart and munich machine member geoff bastow. bastow s career has been an extremely colourful one seeing him work with various artists including amanda lear, elton john, donna summer and la bionda amongst many others. -hupendi muziki wangu?- is swahili for -you don t like my music?- and the track has long been a classic with underground disco/boogie aficionados for many years and has been a staple in the record bags of many legendary jocks since it s release 35+ years ago. on the flipside we are treated to -it s hot-, another sleek cut of early 80 s boogie perfection aimed squarely at the dancers. truthfully though, the a-side steals here the show here, take a listen - you ll see what we mean! reissued in conjunction with sam records, new york city. fully remastered with all original 1981 label artwork intact. file under - *essential disco*

Æ is the third part of bjarki triptych of lps to be released this year. Æ is a particularly icelandic form, pronounced “i” in english, bjarki thinks it just looks good. here it is a selection of music that is at its core quite simple, with restrained instrumentation, made on hardware and features a selection of older works and the most recent produced just weeks ago. bjarki is from iceland. born and raised. despite the fact that bjarki is known for making extremely powerful dance floor tracks he doesn’t seem to belong to any particular genre. something this triptych of lps demonstrates very well. his music is at times cinematic and there’s a story behind each track. bjarki’s music always has something to do with him personally, but he’d rather the listener lose themselves in the music than pay much attention to the man behind them. either on a record or to one of his ever evolving live sets.

slow futur was the name of the live soundtrack of zombie zombie for a juggling company. an add project that we decided to release some months ago, consisting in 4 tracks of 15 minutes. we were suprisingly sold out very quick. so we decided to give that record a longer life having some new mixes of one the track : hyperspace. tolouse low trax is all around the place at the moment. the amazing resident dj at salon des amareurs in dusseldorf provides a kind of sleazy remix here,that never really starts but subtlelly evolves while i:cube brings it in the dub territories, in a lush mood. enfin, gilb r provides a little reprise,putting the percussions in the front for a tropical effect.

following his stunning everything is nothing ep, which kicked off the hubble telescope series for solar one music in 2015, luxus varta (aka emeric di paolo) is back with a new four track ep for french label, intramuros. ‘rosenhan experiment’ (named after david rosenhan’s famous study to determine the validity of psychiatric diagnosis, published in 1973 under the title “on being sane in insane places”) takes us on another electro trip into the human mind with paris the black fu from detroit grand pubahs once again making an appearance, on the track ‘losquato’. the ep opens with the wonderfully shimmering ‘wenn’ before luxus varta makes striking use of his background as a drummer on ‘lizzy’. ‘losquato’ is a playful addition with stripped back rhythms under paris’ story telling that bemoans a man’s work frustrations and resulting mental state (“i gave up therapy about a month ago. my therapist jumped out of a window”), while closer ‘tempsun’ is almost melancholy in its measured minimalism. recommended for lovers of drexciya and dopplereffekt.

this monster 1976 lp from nassau s munnings brothers aka beginning of the end is a stone cold classic. fact. well deserving of a place in any record collection! this, their second lp (with 1971s infamous funky nassau preceding it) features the brothers original, fresh sound a mixture of tough funk rhythms, bahamian soul and flourishes of jazz and rock is an extremely well executed and produced body of work. not surprising considering the band were one of the bahamas foremost musical outfits. the brothers musical backgrounds could not have been any more fitting, they cut their teeth playing regularly alongside the likes of nat king cole and count basie at their fathers well known nightclub the cat and the fiddle, what we get on this lp however is not jazz, but lean, melodic soul music! original copies of this seminal lp can change hands for 100 s on the used/second hand market and is a solid constant at the tops of the wants lists of record aficionados. the lp has been illegally reissued numerous times without any care or attention being taken to retain or respect the quality of the amazing music contained within. not so on this occasion, this is a fully legit, sanctioned reissue done in conjunction and with the assistance of miami s tk disco empire. now is the perfect time to revisit the deep, soulful sounds of the munnings brothers endeavours, a truly sublime collection of songs, drenched in sunshine, masterfully produced and performed with pure vitality. a truly classic album. sounding as fresh as it did almost 40 years ago. jump in the water!
