in the latest release from public system recordings we are allowed a look further into the syrupy synth dripping slowed beatdown. kluentah delivers a chalky electro smash with elongated snares and eerie chords passing from one end of the brain to the other, and to the floor. there is smooth vocal play as well as allowing for incoherent out of context speech samples that stab through minimal jumpy drum work. as diabolical and heavy as the hits and bass is, this enters the swath of dance floor records with a distinct flavor that sets itself above others execution. full of sludgy breaks, there is a constant reduction even as sounds and samples are introduced, they enter the roving mulch in a stylish slide.

two miscreants of uk electronics have been drafted in by shipwrec for a 12- of techno debauchery. richard bevan and joshu doherty, aka posthuman, have been addicted to acid from their first contact with the caustic and cruel chords of the tb303. since then the two cousins have gone on to curate 10 years of i love acid as well as doling out some toxic classics of their own. the duo deliver the soured goods once again, starting the audio anarchy with the ominously titled -netflix and kill-. drum patterns are gnarled and nasty in this slow burning jacker where basslines boil over into a thick syrup of late night revelry. the flip is taken over by the bullying sounds of -the damocles syndicate.- the track rumbles with venomous menace. coils of 303 spite bulge and contract under the strict resolve of a stern beat in this ready made floor filler. two helpings from two malevolent masters of the silver box.

frigio records is going back in time for its latest release, some 38 years into the past. back then a young newcastle man was experimenting with early electronic instruments and synths. mick clarke is his name and nearly forty years later he is still at it. two tracks have been borrowed from clarke s seminal games lp, each given a bit of modern boot polish from minimalrome s heinrich dressel and frigio father juanpablo.

-walls of the night- is a blissed out work of ambient prog rock abstraction. think rumbling horror score and soaring guitar strings. heinrich dressel offers a giallo dipped remix. the building bars of the original are maintained, beats added for ballast and darkened organ keys for a remake etched with murderous intent. the flip is introduced by the dreamy -time is now.- slender synthlines intertwine with gentle strings in a cerebral work. juanpablo tweaks the 1979 material. syrupy acid lines swim in meandering currents, a thick beat keeping time in murky waters of modulations and undulations.

late last year music for dreams released the digital album -debut- by bongo entp. this passion project from veteran studio session player jacob andersen brought us an unexpectedly fresh take on south american music traditions. on this new vinyl release, the project is both revisited and expanded upon. cherry picking some of the grooviest cuts from the album for this ep, we also get remix treatments from well sourced collaborators selvagem & carrot green. both hailing from brazil, these producers certainly know how to work latin percussion on a dancefloor. taking on the dreamy cover version of henri mancini’s classic -lujón- (original included too), carrot green ups the tempo and wrangles the elements of the original into something completely different. adding a house kick and dark acid undertones, he takes you on a wet trip with lots of twists and turns. the production duo of selvagem manage something similar with one of the looser bongo entp. jams. the original -foto feita do aviaõ is a jazzy scat sinaalong tune. in selvagem’s hands, it turns into an epic cosmic disco groover, locked into place by a muscular baseline. the vocal chants of the original are here, but used in a lower key and more sparingly to punctuate the bounce of the rhythm. the vinyl includes two other album highlights - the cafe del mar classic -el rey de pollo- , a santana-style chill-out affair featuring mikkel nordsø of bombay hotel fame and finally the moody -spanish winter- with its robotic reggae-like groove and syrup-thick synthesizers bubbling in a bittersweet fashion. a superb package.

italian dj and producer manuel fogliata hasnÕt released a lot of records over the last ten years, but the few he has put out have always been worth tracking down. perhaps best known for his work alongside donato dozzy in creating the much sought-after aquaplano records at the tail end of the last decade, nuelÕs solo outings have been just as consistent and just as impressive. whether taking on metallic electro or syrupy, bass-heavy ambience, nuelÕs attention to detail and his keen ear for a groove has made each release something to treasure. nuelÕs only previous full-length, trance mutation (further records, 2011), was a masterpiece of minimal repetition.

larry chubby reynolds as he was originally called cut some 45 s for the tri-spin label when first starting out in detroit during the 60s. he recorded with groups the relations and chocolate syrup before ultimately, in 1973, replacing william howard as lead singer of the dramatics. here he recorded and performed before his solo album deal with capitol records in 1981 which gave us the l.j. reynolds (which included key to the world ) then travelin in 1982. ahead of this fantasy album came lovin man for mercury in 1984, then ultimately tell me you will which features a special guest appearance by the o jays. rare on cd, this album has been much sought after by soul fans in recent years.

in fact, >in a hole<, the a-side of their latest 12 inch, is even more dream-steeped than its predecessors. relying on vintage (and in some cases, home made) gear, simon and tsai have constructed a song that is syrupy in pace. darkened tones mingle with floating percussion and vocals processed to nearly melancholic depths. >cant feel my knees< picks up the tempo, and feels slightly sunnier in comparison (>perhaps a result of practicing for the first time in a place with windows<, according to simon), with rippling keys that give way to an open, spacious sigh and an almost playful interlude of warmth and bass punctuations. the two have said theyre interested in the meeting point of house and noise, and thats particularly apparent on the two remixes that appear here. >in a hole dub< is slower, more bare-boned and ghostlier than the track from which its derived, while >cant feel my knees dub< is filled with white noise emissions and hissing electro shocks.
