two miscreants of uk electronics have been drafted in by shipwrec for a 12- of techno debauchery. richard bevan and joshu doherty, aka posthuman, have been addicted to acid from their first contact with the caustic and cruel chords of the tb303. since then the two cousins have gone on to curate 10 years of i love acid as well as doling out some toxic classics of their own. the duo deliver the soured goods once again, starting the audio anarchy with the ominously titled -netflix and kill-. drum patterns are gnarled and nasty in this slow burning jacker where basslines boil over into a thick syrup of late night revelry. the flip is taken over by the bullying sounds of -the damocles syndicate.- the track rumbles with venomous menace. coils of 303 spite bulge and contract under the strict resolve of a stern beat in this ready made floor filler. two helpings from two malevolent masters of the silver box.

late last year music for dreams released the digital album -debut- by bongo entp. this passion project from veteran studio session player jacob andersen brought us an unexpectedly fresh take on south american music traditions. on this new vinyl release, the project is both revisited and expanded upon. cherry picking some of the grooviest cuts from the album for this ep, we also get remix treatments from well sourced collaborators selvagem & carrot green. both hailing from brazil, these producers certainly know how to work latin percussion on a dancefloor. taking on the dreamy cover version of henri mancini’s classic -lujón- (original included too), carrot green ups the tempo and wrangles the elements of the original into something completely different. adding a house kick and dark acid undertones, he takes you on a wet trip with lots of twists and turns. the production duo of selvagem manage something similar with one of the looser bongo entp. jams. the original -foto feita do aviaõ is a jazzy scat sinaalong tune. in selvagem’s hands, it turns into an epic cosmic disco groover, locked into place by a muscular baseline. the vocal chants of the original are here, but used in a lower key and more sparingly to punctuate the bounce of the rhythm. the vinyl includes two other album highlights - the cafe del mar classic -el rey de pollo- , a santana-style chill-out affair featuring mikkel nordsø of bombay hotel fame and finally the moody -spanish winter- with its robotic reggae-like groove and syrup-thick synthesizers bubbling in a bittersweet fashion. a superb package.

larry chubby reynolds as he was originally called cut some 45 s for the tri-spin label when first starting out in detroit during the 60s. he recorded with groups the relations and chocolate syrup before ultimately, in 1973, replacing william howard as lead singer of the dramatics. here he recorded and performed before his solo album deal with capitol records in 1981 which gave us the l.j. reynolds (which included key to the world ) then travelin in 1982. ahead of this fantasy album came lovin man for mercury in 1984, then ultimately tell me you will which features a special guest appearance by the o jays. rare on cd, this album has been much sought after by soul fans in recent years.
