here at bearfunk hq we firmly believe in perseverance. we keep asking questions until we get the right answer and with 6ft bear by our side the answer is usually yes. we kept asking ilija rudman to get in the studio and write us a killer lp but being the busy bee that he is it was hard for him to take the time out. we kept asking until he eventually caved in and went underground to record his first lp, >the reveal<. ilija is a devoted and passionate man when it comes to music. one of his prerequisites for recording an lp was that the recordings had to be made with the same techniques and equipment that inspired him to make music in the first place. so ilija hooked up with one of his studio mentors and got his dream line-up of synthesizers, roland jupiter 4 & 8, minimoog, roland sh2, juno 60 and his dream drum machines linn and oberheim dmx. these analogue machines fire up to create a warm and authentic vibe across the whole lp. we are reminded here that machines do have soul if used properly. we start proceedings with the wigged out boogie of >inspectors drive< which might be a little nod in the direction of wally badarous classic chief in< have all the ingredients of dj friendly hits. the lp reveals all the influences that ilija has experienced and it shows the talent that runs inside him as he is able to make such an amazingly retro lp sound like something from the future. we are sure in years to come this lp could become as important as the influences that inspired mr. rudman to make it.
after the brilliant album >until then goodbye<, lawrence is back on mule electronic! four brand new songs on this new single, >teenage barb< on a-1 is a hypnotic deep house tune with melancholic piano chords, monotone synth sounds. >organ track< on a-2 is a percussive deep house tune with a modern approach, its for all deep house lovers. >above the sky< is a dance version of the same song which is included to the new edition of mules ambient compilation >enjoy the silence< very nice ambient house sound with illusory melody like steve reich. ambient version of above the sky is taken from upcoming >enjoy the silence vol.2< which will be released on 23 may. great artists from terre thaemlitz, koss, nsi.,donato dozzy, seltene erden (new project by kassem mosse) and more are joined.
although the damage music berlin label is still in its youth, the creative input is not holding its breath too long: after the success of the damage release dirty doering >loco remixes<, this issue presents a new 12ep that puts even more excellent and fresh urban breath into modern club music. first up is >whats the point?<, a collaboration with label chief alexander kowalski together with jake the rapper. by teaming up with jake the urban electronic guerilla, a cunning and highly-effective headbanging is produced, harvesting a moody and darkly infectious spoken text. >it all boils down< ... what unfolds here is an intense yet uncluttered soundtrack surrounding a mystifying message of sexually metapysical proportions crafted and totally engaging.
big with: nick warren, mihalis safras, pig & dan, peter horrevorts, chrisitan smith, joris voorn, cristian varela,..
lnas third release comes from the godfather of the underground all the way from brookyln, new york: namely the legendary jovonn. first tune >a definition of a track< makes use of driving beats combined with ethereal and jazz-like melodies that work together to create a hypnotic atmosphere. second track >space atmosphere< has a more infectious styling, with an ever-progressive melody against a firm groove that grabs the listener and the dance floor. also featuring remixes from the much revered two armadillos, giles smith of secretsundaze and martin dawson (king roc) have turned out a modern classic to nail any peak time dance floor. the second remix comes from the newly formed mankind project. expect more from them this year with two other eps in the pipeline. this ep is something rather special!
a seriously jampacked new compilation featuring only brand new and exclusive tracks! >forward to the past<, according to label boss steve bug, renders homage to the period between 85 and 92, traversing the heady sounds of chicago house, acid, new york house and early detroit techno. the album amasses an all star cast from across the board including the talents of steve bug, martin landsky, clé, redshape, ribn, the revenge, deetron, sasse, kink & neville watson and more. >forward to the past< takes in many of todays rising talents alongside faithful veterans of the scene. its really a joy to hear how these top class producers, both vintage and modern, each add their own spin and re-interpret the sounds of the past. complete with audiophile-approved analog tape mastering, and the highest production values around, its a wonderful tribute to the past, present and future of electronic music.
the process of receiving and listening to demos is akin to the proverbial needle in a haystack - poorly labeled cd’s or mp3’s are handed out indiscriminately like flyers for strip clubs in times square (circa 1970). “i really think you are going to like this,” or “all nude girls,” and “dj ‘x’ played this at space,” or “24 hours live sex show…!!” but in the end, just like the harsh reality of a stripper in daylight, the demos fall well short of anything mildly interesting and certainly nothing you would bring home to mom… until madato… from the first group of tracks he sent it was clear that a nice guy from naples had sent us the needle we had been looking for. “naples may not be a place one would consider to be particularly inspiring, from its outside appearance, chaos, and plenty of junk on the streets - it takes a deeper gaze, beyond, and into madato’s dream world. madato is always looking at what’s beyond the waste. inside his dream box you might find laura palmer making out with ian curtis, charles bukowski writing a fairy tale, or perhaps john nash singing along to bauhaus songs…” file under: trippy disco inspired dance music, not defined by a genre but more of an attitude. post-punk undertones mixed with psychedelic sensibility
the fifth neurhythmics release is a compilation of befriended artists, and this is reflected by the different interpretations of the individuals to what the labels sound is about. juergen provides the a-side with >common sense< a vocal-snippet driven house-track, that once again underpins his sound-aesthetics of having it sound live and mixed on the fly, straight out of the machine. the flip-side could not start off any better. quite possibly a future classic, >signature< by mike binary, has soul and emotion literally squeezed in between each of the effortlessly programmed beats, and has become one the favourite tracks at the neurhythmics hq to ever been put on the label. last but not least, >no other< by the dirty soul project (you will know these guys, but we were sworn to secrecy) firmly pulls the hand brake and slows things down to just over 110 bpm. this doesnt mean that this very hypnotic number isnt going to work in the early morning slots…au contraire, actually...
second ep from aldo cadiz on workbench! well known from his releases and remixes on labels like desolat, einmaleins, offspin, disco royal, the chilean dj and producer delivers a fantastic 2 track ep for workbench! with samples of james brown
2010 was an incredible successful year for nosferatu, with no doubt the biggest highlight of them all, hosting his own area at trillogy 2010! as a tribute to this night he hit the studio with some of his good and well - known friends in the scene, which resulted into this wonderful 4 tracker on enzyme records. the tracks sick of it all (feat. evil activities) and hate on yourself (feat. the viper) can already be called real floor fillers.poop (feat. ruffneck) and hope dissolves (feat. outblast) have a more experimental character, but they definitely know how to bring movement to every dance floor around the globe!
both taken from the forthcoming duffstep album >getting to sirius<, >your touch< and >backseat< are original duffstep tracks given a cosmic make over by duff disco. they are proper modern disco music that sits just the right side of funky, without conjuring images of fluffy boots and spiky hair, white shirts and fake tan. whilst backseat is the more euphoric of the two your touch is more moody than an emo teenager watching twighlight. both obviously duff disco but somehow keeping the family together as duffsteps finger prints are all over these too.
50 releases in six years! to celebrate this fact we release this special compilation with a great diversity of styles, ranging from disco to deep house and tech house. all tracks made exclusively for this album. this is the vinyl edition with 3 of the best tracks taken from the 15 track album. as we have always been pushing new young talent on dirt crew we also take this compilation to introduce to you some very exciting guys to look out for, first up is plan d aqua from holland with an amazing deep disco monster and second new face is the tortoise from melbourne with his deep disco/ house sound. he recently put out his first record on the fantastic 3rd stike records. we are also very proud to have our favorite producer and friend on the compilation with an exclusive track. mr. iron curtis has released awesome tracks in the last year on various labels and with >brthrs< again proves to be one of gemanys most promising young deep house artists.
snugness and calmness are important ingredients for a fulfilled life- and for entertaining dance music as well, as is proven by the gentlemen schaeufler and zovsky. their debut album could be characterized as a cunning mixture of humorously grinning relaxation and pushing dance floor bounce. this unique sound reflects the stylistic background of the duo: while the one keeps grooving on the laid back and independent vibe of his rural home mecklenburg, the other moved to berlin already some time ago and inhales all the diverse, international influences of the electronic metropolis. the village is rhythmically fuelled by casual and lasciviously house tunes with a warm and friendly character, supported by organic, dubby bass lines. matching this positive and uplifting mood, light melodies, classical styled filter modulations and unobtrusive vocal entries remind the laid-back amusement of a sunlit sunday outing.
felinephonix music sets off 2011 with the first installment of a limited edition vinyl selection from the project house of label artist & founder, mieka du franx, with exclusive dj support from kim ann foxman (hercules & love affair) and nina kraviz (rekids | underground quality). du box chronicles is an intimate collection of works & collaborations set to press. vol. 1 presents abe duque, the acid tech king of new york who delivers an elegant, journey-esq arrangement of avant guard deep house that inspires an uplifting vibe beautifully orchestrated with the warm vocals of mieka du franx, titled >du light<. >du what i du< (dub) is all about the hook and dig on that housey bass line, a classy rendition of the original that takes this number back. the 20th release of felinephonix music marks well earned return to wax. the label’s early most notable works were done with heavy hitters kink, jay tripwire, chris carrier, and fm attack, whose productions can be found along side mieka du franx. the hits that gained high recognition were from mixmag’s top djs of 2010 including kissy sellout (bbc radio 1) and luciano (cadenza), as well as support from derrick may, ralph falcon, hernan catteneo, rodriguez jr., mark henning, and many more.

7th sign warmly welcomes marcellus pittman to the label. with a distinctive sound that pulls together soul and electronic texture into a form without compare, marcellus already boasts a formidable track record. he is a member of the seminal 3 chairs alongside kenny dixon jr., rick wilhite and theo parrish. as if this werent enough, his remarkable releases on sound signature, track mode, fxhe, fit and his own unirhythm imprint have further cemented his position as the hottest modern producer around today. here we have three glorious tracks that show different sides to his character but all sharing a common purpose - to move bodies and minds.
following his prized joker rework, his inclusion on the hefty fabric-curated >elevator music< comp, his dope 7 inch for the all city crew, and corridor ep on plasticians terrorhythm imprint - not to mention a slew of remixes - om unit joins the civil music stable alongside starkey, reso, debruit, drums of death and darling farah. and yet again we see him pushing his sonic manifesto ever further. with years of working intently at the nexus of instrumental beats and electronic music, its time for the timps ep. the timps is real electro. faceless, percussive, underground with a sci-fi feel. dark, futuristic and dancefloor-oriented, punctuated with elements of 80s detroit techno.
over the course of nine albums in the 2000s for their producer-led beat generation series, bbe adopted an unusual stance. >do what you want<, their artists were told for probably the first time in their careers. the labels enormously liberal approach was the antithesis of stiff major record label a&r practices, their forward thinking rewarded handsomely by a truly diverse set of albums from some of the worlds most capable hip-hop architects.
part eight in the instruments of rapture series sees the anticipated release of the soul renegades deep n slow, fireside-funk jam, >darlin< (which is only a year overdue). the title track is reinforced by the uptempo, ballroom blazer >y all wont let me< with full fat remixes by the mighty faze action and the lincoln lecturer aka craig bratley.

just close your eyes and listen to these three lush compositions, while your imagination paints brilliant abstract visuals deep in the alleys of your mind. keeping consistent with the previous ten aesthetic audio releases, the formula for this new gem remains an uncompromising plethora of very raw substance, innovation, and timeless music that will clearly stand on it own amongst deep dance aficionados across the globe. deep roots: begins this journey with this intense and twisted deep banger that is simply a dancers dream. thumping drums and melodic string arrangements get things jumping as you are very quickly taken to your special place. the dark symphony: is a sinister and grimy yet gorgeous piece of work all at the same time. lush chords and dark electronic sculptures spark an imaginary sense of euphoria as the art of dance holds your body ransom. climates: captures the sheer art and raw essence of deep underground dance. this dark beauty continues to build until your body renders itself to the rhythm, and then ultimately it fades … leaving a beautiful memory on the canvass in your mind.
akiko kiyamas latest release features four tracks of intricate drum programming, bringing her characteristic warmth to the groove with their ghostly whispered vocal samples and the clicking and clanking poly-rhythmic sound made famous by the legendary berlin imprint, perlon. the first track, carnival, brings all the fun of the fair, a swirl of coloured lights barely glimpsed amongst the heaving throngs of somewhere like bar 25, followed on by an abstract slow burner which sneaks up on you with its sneezed vocal snippets and jangling bassline. talon, a real dancefloor creeper, clips along insistently and the final track, with its bass-guitar and pulsing synth line rounds of the record in perfect ethereal fashion. as akiko puts it herself, >deepness, depression, beauty, irony, fun - these are keywords for my music also my life itself<. you can definitely feel that there is much more thought put into these productions than just purely the need to move people on the dancefloor.
back at the tail end of the last millennium bbe released a comprehensive overview of house music in the latter stages of the 20th century. >henry street music: the story so far - 1993 to 1999< was a slice of superior contemporary club classics featuring all of the key players, architects and music makers of the day. todd terry, armand van helden, kenny dope, dj sneak, 95 north, robbie rivera, davidson ospina, ralphi rosario, mike delgado, king britt, and a handful of others under various alter egos and nom de plumes. it was a given that they were all great records, what was all the more impressive was that they all originated from the same recording home, henry street music. a label conceived and devised by johnny demairo, an italian-american from jersey who talked the talk, could easily have been an extra in the sopranos, and was known affectionately as the shark. to others he was just plain johnny d, and one half of the production duo johnick with studio partner nicky p palermo jr. tracks such as d2- d2 by dj duke are collectors classics and will be re-released and re-mastered on vinyl for the first time in over 10 years
though there is something refreshing and original about the afronauts, their music could be described as somewhere in between the heavy afrobeat of fela kuti and the ethio-jazz of mulatu astatke. this debut 12 inch single combines all these elements, >journey through time< having a hypnotic, spiritual feel, whilst the b side >kibo< is totally exclusive to this 12 inch single, and is an upbeat positive groove, both tracks only hinting at the delights the forthcoming album flight of the ancients (fsrcd/lp085) will contain.
back by popular demand. keith alexander shelby aka k-alexi, the true chicago house legend gets a quality reissue of the mega classics risque 3 & club mcm under the supervision of dj deep. all the magic is there, a highly fashionable item signed bu the inventor of urban music.
minus yogis is the brainchild of the japanese motoyoshi donkey shimazaki, ex- tokyo policewoman, kimiko kawabe and englishman abroad, max essa.
>all tied up is propelled by a proper bass line, repetitive chord vamp and otherworldly percussion, minus yogis create a tracky groove before dropping a synth and strings combination. the remix comes courtesy of juju & jordash! the juju & jordash gospel mix of >all tied up< is the soundtrack to a very disorientating sermon at the church of deep house psychedelic drama. heavy, dubbed out music for heads.

oslo says hello to 2011 with a great ep again from one of the best electronic producers at the moment, guillaume & the coutu dumonts. we all know his eps on oslo, so we can be sure that he will not dissapoint. on the a side we find >praise to the beat maker< an amazing track with lyrics by dave aju, you will never take this track out of your mind. the rhythm is 100% guillaume. the second track of the ep >promess-lovin< gives the main melody to the release, and with some female vocals remains us one of the best old school house periods. the last track >all you have to do< is a very slow and musical track, wich keeps the line of the ep and at the same time add something different.
and there’s more.. number six in million dollar disco’s latest release series, as you’ve probably come to expect, is more vintage dancefloor fodder from the reels (mac) of al kent.. “message to the people” started life as a classic, then went through the blender, coming out all wrong, but so right. stomping along on a killer clav groove, punctuated by horns and an evergreen vocal. ” feel the groove” is a heavy hitter, thumping drums and bass with a synth hook that grabs you and doesn’t let go. finally there’s “keep on doing” which is almost house music in it’s simple repetitive bass groove and gospel style vocal shots.. million dollar disco is loved by dimitri from paris, pat les stache, solid state, cosmic boogie, greg wilson, peter adarkwah, the dead rose music company, horse meat disco, nik weston, chris harris and many many more
light sounds dark combine forces with fellow marshmallows psychemagik on a ride to the other side and as one would expect from these two a variable treasure trove of a selection plucked from all corners of the known galaxy and far beyond.

supported by reboot, secret cnema, julian chaptal, shlomi aber, nick warren! nick daring, take note of the name, because the young italian is set for great things. after early releases on rawthentic and greelpound, its time for us to introduce him to a wider audience, with his debut release for kiara. as with many of todays young producers, nicks youth has been filled with music. the vast variety of which has helped in his own eclectic style, both behind the decks and in his own productions. teaming up with kiara was an obvious, evolutionary step, and today he presents his decomposition of the past ep. his three original tracks le mabadi, paint of desh and wyeth, all perfectly showcase nicks ability to create simple, hypnotic rhythms, wrapped in layers of raw funk. kiara favourite leix steps up to remix wyeth. harnessing the impetuous groove of the original, leix injects his own percussive nous and creates a beautifully warm rework. another producer whos never short of a healthy dose of hip swinging serum is dutchman, david lebeij. he gets to grips with paint on desh and presents a classic bass-driven house remix

party breaks unabashedly shows its colors with 4 new brilliant marcos cabral edits. with samples ranging from boogie, to piano house, to a beefed up disco ballad, marcos layers sounds and phrases in an effortless manor for major effect. sometimes robin s will peak through, sometimes bob-a-rella…all within a strict drum machine groove. all the tracks were clearly built with the dj in mind, repetitive when wanting to hypnotize, and pop when wanting to catch listeners.
