hvnxx is one of the most special projects weve taken part in as a label. some months ago the xx and young turks asked our artists to remix tracks from coexist. it was a big honour and also a big responsi- bility, specially considering that the xx is one of our favourite bands. the outcome of such challenge is a four-track ep that showcases the sound of both well-established members of the hivern family, such as marc pinol and new jackson, and upcoming talents such as round and mistakes are ok. all four remixes are pretty different among them, but they all manage to maintain the distinctive spirit of the original songs in their own way. marc pinol takes fiction to the good ol days of chicago house, laying the original vocals on top of analog drum-machines and a rubbery bassline to that suggest an imaginary collaboration between adonis and oliver sim. the elusive mistakes are ok maintains the tropical vibe of reunion but provides a warped atmosphere combining breezy chimes with static haze and a propulsive bass that boosts the song towards the second part of the remix. hiverns latest signee round transforms the fragility of missing into a soothing house cut through uplifting organ chords and vigorous rhythms fulfilling dancefloor demands without loosing its melancholic character. finally, new jackson proves once again his knack with nocturnal ambiences flipping swept away into a sensuous deep-house gem guided by an absorbing piano and a slow but steady groove. the release comes in an embossed sleeve with artwork designed by arnau pi. hvnxx is a co-release with young turks.

dj sliink, springing from the jersey club scene, has built an impressive reputation for his contributions to north american dance music. so much so that vibe magazine included him on their list of 30 djs to watch. his angular, spare take on club music can be described as straight forward, as much as a punch in the face can be described as straight forward anyway

one listen to the crystal clear rapture in the sound of bodhi(cardiff 24 year olds olly howells and luke welsby) shows a heavily funk-influenced take on dance music, akin to many of the uks current crop of genre owning electronic artists (see disclosure, blawan, bondax). the response to their enchanting, dancefloor-ready vibe is already demanding considerable attention, with a bondax tour support under way and the likes of xlr8r already tipping these boys for big things.

after appearances on idle hands and brstl, rhythmic theory returns to their own imprint to further explore gritty textures and mysterious moods within house and techno frameworks. where theory001 featured the somewhat soothing, melancholic tones of >echo vibe< and >omega syndrome<, this second installment comes caked in sonic muck and abrasive attitude.its not all dark and foreboding, as the graceful filter-swept key refrain of >siren song< will attest, but it takes a barrage of rasping hats and bludgeoning kicks and toms before such niceties can be foisted upon our ears. while there is an optimistic lilt to the particular notes the melody calls out, in the midst of such machismo percussion it cant help but feel emotionally ambiguous, continuing the tone set out in the first rhythmic theory releases.there is no such confusion over b side cut >genesis< from the apocalyptic boom of the opening kick to the rapid gun fire of the snare this is a track that wants to inflict damage. at the midway point the searing beat melts away as a wash of delay-riddled speech knocks you from your centre of gravity, only for the drums to come whipping back in to pick up the slack. even the sole synth note that rears its head is devoid of compassion, pulsing a creepy, robotic intonation through the clamour.

this vinyl release brings together first class remixes taken from the singles, the future is yours and good for the city - which features sam duckworth of get cape wear cape fly fame. first up on the a-side from solomuns diynamic crew is adriatique. the duo were big fans of the future is yours, featured it on the diynamic podcast and got in touch with the kraakers to say they would be up for remixing the song. the result is deep house heaven and a summer terrace stalwart. next up is portuguese disco don moullinexs take which lays down a classic disco style and vibe in the mix.

cutters records are pleased to announce the debut vinyl (and vinyl only!) release from their latest signing, the la based artist kauf. since 2011 he has been honing his own dark twist on modern electronic music, with heavy drum production, dense, cinematic synth buildups and high-pitched, echo-laden vocals. his aesthetic lies somewhere in between the worlds of slow house, industrial dance and drony indie pop earning comparisons with the likes of caribou, matthew dear and toro y moi. an internet-only single caught the ears of cut copys frontman dan whitford, who promptly signed him for a forthcoming ep, entitled as much again on cutters records. the first taste of this ep comes in the form of the relocate 12 inch, including remixes by psychemagik, nile delta and moons. kaufs relocate is an dark anthem for the late-night-slow-dance, featuring sparse metallic percussion, chugging synth bass and vocals drowning in a sea of reverb. psychemagik take this vibe and run with it for their 7 minute house tinged rework. cutters own nile delta ups the energy with his signature acid-injection and moons (no recordings) rounds out the release.

california analog dream is the new single taken from the vondelpark debut album seabed. tracing the sonic history of the song from initially being a highlight on the bands debut ep sauna to inclusion on the debut full-length, feels like uncovering the story of the band that produced it. on the songs initial version rainsburys voice kept you at arms length. on seabed his vocal take draws you in, feeling magnetic and intense. it is on this song in particular that you can really mark the changes that vondelpark have been through over the past 18 months of recording. rainsbury describes seabed as a coming of age record, and that is something that could just as easily apply to the impressive transformation vondelpark have made during its conception. on remix duties is fellow r&s artist bullion who always delivers the goods with his remixes and productions, on this mix he seems to be channeling a funky lower east side new york vibe, circa 1979. next up are dfa artists factory floor who deliver a signature industrial acid workout perfect for the dancefloor. pressing on white vinyl.

the first of two remix discs of ivanos excellent lp. up first are bristol residents outboxx who bring a slick electro vibe to 113. chilled and melodic with a classic sounding b-line, this is one of the best remixes to feature on the label to date. flip for two remixes by roger gerressen, a member of the eshu collective along with mr tetelepta. his 117 remix is a slick house affair again with the b-line very much in the fore. his take on 119 is a much deeper affair, dubbed in its outlook with the melancholic piano stabs of the original a main feature.

bring u up originally appeared on romans blackmale label in 1995 as a rumbling slice of new jersey garage complete with gospel samples and romanthony collaborator the trojan horse. it was a bit of a cult favourite with underground heads like dj deep. it wasnt until roman completely re-produced and re-sang the song in 2000 that it fully took on anthem status. out went the heavy kicks and hypnotic moods and in came james brown horn stabs and a live beat that sounded like bernard purdie had joined him for the session (the drums were actually provided by roman himself). the result was an instant club hit with everyone from pete tong to francois kevorkian that reached (a very respectable 74) in the uk national charts. on this 12 inch deetrons takes the funk vibe of romans 2000 version and toughens it up for todays dancefloors, lee webster adds a monster baseline and some serious beats. on the flip-side the original blackmale version is re-issued on vinyl for the first time as is an unreleased dj friendly edit of the 2000 version done by kevin mckay.

here on their self titled 12 inch, monkeyrobot deliver four diverse tracks that showcase their skills behind the boards, the keys, with a keen ear for the dancefloor. kicking things off, >brick stomach< is a synth-heavy four-to-the-floor 120 bpm joint that comes off like a floating points visit back in time to 1980s detroit with its rolling snares, arpeggiating synth bassline and cloudy pads. next up, >northern light< filters shimmering space disco vibes through big, thumping instrumental hip-hop drums and moody analog bass. on the flip, >rose gris< takes things in a funkier direction at 100bpm with its syncopated drums, irresistible lead, squelching bassline and all manner of synthesizer explorations. rounding off the ep is >last days<, which still manages to inject a funky 80s analog sound into its melancholy downtempo vibes.

plymouths 14th best dj aldo vanucci drops his latest in the form of this killer ep. >you re all show< features the sublime vocals of kylie auldist - best known as the lead singer of the bamboos but also a massive star in her own right. in this track she lyrically tears down some unfortunate individual who has been showing out a little too much. >take me to a party< features rappers asm batting off the unwanted attentions of the post gig sparkle ponies and with aldos backing creates a classic hip hop party vibe. >what happened?< re-works a classic vocal to devastating effect and >alone< re-creates the off kilter breakbeat vibe of aldos biggest track to date >when i see you smile<.

4th release by 12records, presenting the new deep88 >removing dust< ep (taken from the forthcoming >removing dust< album that will be released later on this year). main single is a2 >the vibe<, a classic 90s beat made over a real melody, where vocals parts crossover and match each others, in two differents peaks, to create a whole >vibe< flow from the start till the end of the song. a1 is a test signal experiment, where samples take a different level, a sort of meta sample, a sample into a sample… well, have a listen, its easier to understand that way. bside is 3 tracks long, not a common practice in todays ep releases. b1 >grancartridge<, a moodymann house style raw song, b2 is even more raw sampling style, meanwhile b3 is a dreamy vocal house tune more common to deep88s style. the result is a mature ep, that ntroduces the 2nd deep88 album, always on 12records, and that will bring him into that >serious< realm of making house that is seen in some elite today (funny isn’t it… at the end it is just about music and we all have ears… maybe)... btw less marketing on our head, this 12inch wont be a coloured or hand written limited release, just the good old classic black one (yes it sounds better folks) and no limited copies… when is close to finish we will repress as usual.

following on from torquato and boghosians acclaimed debut on yoruba is this, a selection of remixes diverse and interesting enough to do justice to the original lp, which received praise for the rich tapestry of musical sources it drew influence from. first up, afefe iku delivers a much deeper, weightier version of paradice laden with heavy synth stabs and woody percussive elements. aybee takes when u touch me - probably the standout club track on the original lp – into much deeper realms, stripping back the original groove . its remarkably simple but flawlessly executed, the chord motif working effortlessly alongside the crisp hats. atone tackles zulu girl and in the process unravels a much more mechanical track, a massive mid-tempo thud dominating over delayed cymbal crashes and ghostly vocals. overall - a darker vibe and a truly timeless collection of remixes.

this release follows the outstanding debut we_ctrl001, which gained support from the likes of kerri chandler, dj deep, brothers vibe and jimpster. co-founder of we_ctrl benedict takes the reins here, delivering his fresh outlook on contemporary deep house that has seen works of his find their way onto imprints such as hudd traxx, freerange, surface and urban torque.
