rrocckkett 88 is a suite of 45 dazzling instrumental tracks - ranging from 30 seconds to 2 minutes long - alternating between rhythmic and atmospheric forms, all composed on a single synthesizer, the ensoniq sq 80 (manufactured in 1988). as the inspiration for this creation, zano bathroom (an illustrator, artist, and sound experimentalist based in atlanta) used jackie brenstons song, >rocket 88<, considered by many to be the first de facto rock and roll song.
with rrocckkett 88, the artist invented the story of his music. he conceived a fantasy music production house in the mid 80 s in new orleans where hip hop, house, techno, r & b, go go, punk and new wave are both the backdrop and inspiration. using these themes zano bathroom has imagined a comic strip score, made of video game music and tv commercial soundtracks creating a playful, disposable universe.

dj roc, known to his mother as clarence johnson, was born and raised on the southside of chicago better known as the low end. the crack in >crack capone< refers to his style of production. like an underground chemist, dj roc produces variant strains of chicago juke music, the crack referring to the synapse snapping, potentially ankle cracking manipulation of rhythms and the sampling, hijacking and ultra-rhythmic micro-editing of black american pops dominant forms into a style thats been developed and tested on the streets of chicago.

the two hamburg based acts me succeeds and arp aubert are responsible for the first part of a ki records split series. on the ep named after the city in the north of germany the two acts combine their friendship and musical preferences to remix each other and contribute one very own track on each side. me succeeds, with their members mona steinwidder, sebastian kokus and lorin strohm, is a part of hamburgs labelcollective i saw music and their songs combine indie pop with electronic beats and chords. arp aubert consists of the two founding members of mirau records: stephan lorenz and marco niemerski. niemerski is better known for his productions as tensnake, but keeps arp aubert running as a matter of heart. the ki-split 1/3 (hamburg) is truly a family matter. because of their close friendship, me succeeds and arp aubert have created a very intense and emotional record. by remixing each other and combining their musical background this release turns out to be a very special one for ki and the acts themselves. the cover was created by me succeeds in well known ki tradition to make this piece of music something special and memorable.

in the world of factory presets, default settings and copy-paste ethics, there are few artists that actually care to make a difference. and -who told you that?-, 29th release on warsaw recognition label, is certainly a voice to be heard. the title track is another subtle narrative from label boss jacek sienkiewicz. eerie chord and a solid, damp beat from the start are underpinned by sherds of dialogue - snippets of words and laughter keep coming back in the mix, providing some sort of uneasy commentary towards todays minimal house formula. but at some point the voices disappear - and then the tracks gently goes somewhere outside the boundaries of todays club music, somewhere otherworldly. this shift, albeit amazingly subtle, is a leap towards music free of any defined context, far beyond dancefloor and definitely original. if this sneak peak into the possible futures of manmachine induced visions is too much to handle, there is still the b-side of this release. two tracks here - both clocking around mere 5 minutes - are prime exercises in compact, clever, tight and efficient club tools. uplifting -cobalt drive- is bound to to be quoted and reworked into many forms of a late-night burner. patefon, on the other hand, is a peak-time stormer with its stuttering chords and moody samples, supposedly picked from some vintage shellac discs

butane is back on rrygular and he s not alone this time. he gets support from midnight who sweetens the deep butane sound with her vocals. minimal icon bruno pronsato takes the track to a level of timelessness that has no peer. and last but not least, dapayk forms a techno tool par exellence from midnights silky voice and butanes premium elements.

a dark club, glimpsed through flashes of light, a little fog dividing the space - the ideal backdrop for a dazzling appearance on the dance floor. with the abrupt onset of pulsating beats, booming drums and rhythmic rattling, deep and sexy vocals also appear and >that philosophy< from sasse and phonogenic forms the prefect soundtrack to the scene.

urgent, throbbing rhythms, which almost imperceptibly increase into a subtle wall of sound: the tracks on todd bodines new ep develop a hypnotic character, stolen away into a dark pulsating sound field which exactly match the title of the a-side: >dark matter<. the increasingly dense electric field mixes with sparse siren sounds that create their own unique attraction. the same qualities infuse >space and stop< on the b-side, with equally unexpected musical power surges. these are tracks that will drag the dance floor abruptly from its spell in the first few seconds, while simultaneously adding a very special drive and intensity. all in all, todd bodine proves again with his new ep - the first release after his highly successful album, >forms< – his unique sense of style, gained over almost ten years of production experience.
