apodiktische gewissheit ist der titel eines audiovisuellen kooperationsprojektes zwischen dem in berlin lebenden künstler gerhard mantz und wolfgang voigt. das projekt basiert auf einer digitalen videoarbeit von gerhard mantz. konstant fliessende geometrische formen und motive bewegen sich in gleichmässigem fluss um einen festen mittelpunkt auf den betrachter zu. ein hypnotischer sog-effekt von verführerischer schönheit entsteht, dem man sich nicht entziehen kann oder will. wolfgang voigt hat die digitale Ästhetik und den maschinellen flow der bilder aufgegriffen und ihnen eine musikalische entsprechung gegeben. das ergebnis ist eine gelungene verschmelzung von bildern und musik, die mit minimaler bewegung maximale intensität erzeugt. ein gefühl der gleichzeitigkeit von loophafter kontinuität und stetem schub nach vorn, von immer gleich und immer anders, von anfangs- und endlosigkeit entsteht. die vorliegende vinyl veröffentlichung ist teil der audiovisuellen kunstinstallation apodiktische gewissheit, die in zusammenarbeit mit der kölner kunstgalerie hammelehle und ahrens in der gertruden kirche in köln am freitag, den 04.11.2016 eröffnet wird.

in the beginning god created the bass drum. he made it beat 8.601 days. then he left it away. god said: death is the greatest work of art. and its expensive. finally infinite. thats politics and science and art. the art of omission. the art of refusal. death is absolute. the bass drum is absolute. do you want the absolute bass drum? if you manage to convince him, god will be happy to lend you his axe, because what happens is what he wants. just like the people. they want it to happen, too. the most expensive work of art in the world is a skull encrusted with 8.601 diamonds.

techno mit künstlerischem anspruch - oder >kunst - techno< ? ansichtssache , auf jeden fall erfrischend anders.

for wolfgang voigt, techno is a means of constantly reinventing himself. after the publication of the highly idiosyncratic >freiland - klaviermusik<, the two >sog< records >abweichung< and >fremde hände<, and >du musst nichts sagen<, on profan, his new album kafkatrax is dedicated to the human voice. as in previous projects, voigt is solely interested in the sound and the structure of the original material - in this case recited text. using various cutting and covering techniques, he disassembles the text into a disturbing, abstract >literature rap< that at best creates an illusion of comprehending fragments of the shredded words and sentences left over. in combination with voigts typical umta techno beat, the outcome is a kind of vocal polka consisting of voices and their side acoustics that sound like psychedelic without guitars or acid without 303. the fact that voigt used a kafka audio book cd, reminiscent of his literary preferences as a teenager, is entirely meaningless to the final musical product - voigt is only interested in the sound of recited vocal text. he could have equally used thomas mann or the grimm brothers. what is interesting however is that by covering and layering the voices across up to 5 octaves, a claustrophobic, nightmarish atmosphere is created that can definitely be described as >kafkaesque<. acid..

following the legendary first two, stoically super minimal records >sog 1< and >sog 2< that provide ecstasy disguised as boredom on kompakt extra/speicher in 2007, and the outstanding beautifully bizarre >sog - abweichung< on profan in 2010, we are now listening to >fremde hÄnde<. like its predecessors, this sog stands in the tradition of >the art of omission< with wolfgang voigt variegating his preference for the bluntly straightforward quaver bass in two different forms. the a-side contains a tonally noncommittal sequence ambling across the keyboard in quantised form, reminiscing of the arpeggiator (accompaniment function) function of early 70ies and 80ies synthesizers. on the b-side, daring and thoroughly unquantised quaver rhythms rock around a bass drum that, as the only straight element, tries to keep the whole thing together. the result sounds a little like a delirious can live.

profan (...remember wolfgang voigts abstract techno label from the 1990s) is back from the future, and again complicates the situation. like his earlier projects, the brand new sog (strictly limited to 400 copies) release combines seemingly familiar and extremely unfamiliar signs, and in the most unusual way bends them around the utterly familiar bass drum. the result is a conspiracy of four sound frescos of peculiar beauty, and indeed they deserve the title abweichung (engl. deviance) - named after voigts painting featured on the cover. this is minimal art techno that raises questions.
profan 32 will be released before profan 31which will be released a bit later. yet both are heralds of the art publication/double cd compilation: wolfang voigt – werkschau to be released in spring 2010.
