the eraly years of a decade are good times for exploration, just like in 1993 when we (alex & sasa) first started working together. we rented a huge loft space on ave b & 2nd st. in the east village in manhattan. the winter was tough, we had 16 snow storms and due to a landlord who hated everybody, we had our heating turned off except for a few hours in the morning, sometimes not even that... the only way to stay warm was to wear hats, gloves and scarves the whole winter... but that was fine because nightlife was a lot of fun. there was a good club/party every night. right below where we lived was one of the best after hour clubs called >save the robots<. but one of my favourite parties was >sugar babes< which was at the cbgbs gallery space right next door to cbgbs, every monday night. the dj used to sample parts of the records he was mixing and then just play the loop of the sample and alongside was a drummer playing to it. it was really inspiring. so we wanted to go back to this idea of sound assembly and create a new series for us to work with called >skematics< its like a diagram or manual to help understand the interconnections between the odd parts we find and assemble, an imaginary manual for a new decade that has not been musically defined yet

11 track double vinyl album from new mark broom and james ruskin supergroup ! limited initial run on marbled grey vinyl - similar look to the recent sfbsf003 surface 12inch full picture sleeve. the project, knows as the fear ratio, has seen two of the uks finest proponents of no-nonsense, immaculately sculpted techno locked in the studio together. these sessions have already borne three 12 inch titles - no time soon, erotic misery and night nurse � two of which were released on ruskins blueprint records, with the other pressed up on brooms beard man imprint. the fear ratio moniker was adopted following the release of these club-focused 12s, with the album project honing in on more abstract and experimental textures. ruskin revealed details about the project in an interview earlier this year. he said a live fear ratio project was also in the works, with a press release claiming these would commence in 2012. as the fear ratio, broom and ruskin delve into the hinterland of contemporary music. a space where cold atmospheres meet lush melody and tough, yet clipped pulsating beats. from the warm poly-rhythmic funk of >ax< to the deep spatial reverb of >guv 1<, the dub induced strains of >pinhead< and melancholic refrain of >morning blues<, ruskin and broom deliver their new artistic agenda

mr. mageeka makes a welcome return in the wake of >different lekstrix<, the mutated funky banger that caused straight up mayhem on many dancefloors the world over, upon its release via numbers last year. the much-anticipated follow up, penned for release on phuture shock musik, comes in the shape of >vintage malarkey<, which sees the east-londoner offer further next level shenanigans. employing a similar formula as its predecessor, this one is stripped down and quintessentially hypnotic - instantly luring you in with a looped god made me funky - esque groove, over a brisk swinging rythm, whilst occasionally throwing you off-guard through the introduction of angular synths and offbeat claps, as well as an inspired collage of samples that maintains the quirky nature of the production throughout. the single comes backed with >de congo<, a funky conga-laden number, that is enhanced by an addictive fusion of west african guitar licks, kalimba stabs and frisky percussion, though the real icing on the cake being its meandering trumpet hook, altogether coming off like a live high-life jam. early support from the likes of rinse fms scratcha and marcus nasty.
