the first release on project squared in a year, *make your mess* is a three track ep by melbournes craig mcwhinney. craig has been making music for years and releasing since the late 2000s on melbourne labels such as pinksilver, melbourne deepcast and his own haul music, also on labels based further afield such as brendon moellers steadfast and speedy js electric deluxe. craigs music is techno, but it isnt preoccupied with the 4/4, employing broken, swung and rolling drum patterns. his tracks often include melodic and harmonic elements and effects reminiscent of dub techno but without conforming to the pastiche template of the sub-genre. the make your mess ep is composed of the core title track and two additional tracks that arose as interpretations and variations on the initial production: *provocation is an excuse* is more furious and loud, *disengage* is more restrained. all three are around 125 bpm and were produced in the space of a month between september and october 2012.

after two years, the labels owner alex piccini returns with a new ep and first vinyl on kosmophono. a collaboration with subspace that delivers two great examples of what the label wants to bring this year. elpmis has all the elements to drive you mental, the dark bass goes underneath the skin and the melody building up slowly throughout the track can take you to another world.

cynics felix dickinson resurrects his cult bastedos edits label for a serious double-header! it has been a seven year hiatus since the last release on the label, but felix has unearthed a duo of deadly dancefloor weapons for the sixth release. limited as ever - these wont be around for long!

crooked man has made a huge impact this year with a handful of releases which re-interpreted the best of raw house music. release no4 is an impressively punchy and unique duo of vocal cuts, packed with attitude and sonic style.

from deep house to dubby techno, sebo k has been around the world and back taking the club scene on full throttle with the decks as his mission control. now hes back with one of the rare long awaited releases still hitting the point! his latest output, scenario isnt just any ordinary ep. sebo k has this special release down to a science as he centers it around an event series that will gracefully unravel this year.

when discotheque the volcano was torn down in the hague this year, the bricks and mortar were ground down to a fine powder. in a completely revolutionary process the powder was distilled and filtered by boffins and local music producers to manufacture the music you find on this record. even more surprisingly maybe is that it turns out that the same powder can be both inhaled and injected. i ve just had a bit actually and its not bad. post-post sewer tracks far beyond your wildest imagination.

macadam mambo continues to tease us with forthcoming edits. mme404 ep will be dedicated to (ex) yugloslavian disco, reggae and synth pop edits. emir krkic is in charge of the rework duties. you might know him under his muslim disco club monniker, he released a killer ep on feed records last year.

more neroli pressure: for the last release of the year skymark shows all his skills on his second ep for the label. the spiritual jazz piece >open our eyes to the world< sets the tone for a very diverse ep, wich touches so many directions with class and intensity. jazz, samba, house, boogie, latin in a unique mixture that needs to be heard!

heading into 2013 drumcode are keeping up the refined techno that they have displayed and are making sure that they continue to keep up this form throughout the coming year. gregor tresher is has thundered back with his second solo ep for drumcode.

nyc (via paris) based dj and producer sid vaga returns to nickodemus wonderwheel recordings with another 12 inch full of exotic deep house vibes sure to light up dance floors everywhere. it is an impressive follow-up to his genuinely well-received *brazuca* single from last year. on the a side, sid delivers *na na ye*, a driving cut with a pulsing bass line and hypnotic african chant that pushes the tune forward before getting flipped into a percussive section alongside deep and subtle synths. on the flip *manouche* can be found, a late night house tune with psychedelic balkan guitars and swirling gypsy vocal samples punctuating the track. rounding out the single, valencian producer oscar barila (plastic city) gives *manouche* a truly funky remix with a squelchy 80s new wave style bass line, thumping house beat, and irresistible synth work coming together for a real after-hours nightclub workout.

internasjonal makes a gigantic splash into the new year with the in-demand cero by galarude (dj kent and homies from sly moongose and tokyo no. 1 soulset) that had been a secret weapon of a selected few dj glitterati since its original japan-only release in 2004 and enriches it with red hot remixes by dj harvey, prins thomas and tuff city kids (gerd janson & lauer) spread over two separate 12inches.

over the last year i have traveled to canada frequently for gigs and got to know the small but healthy electronic music scene there. cities like montreal, vancouver and toronto have brought forth many established artists over the past few years, such as egyptrixx, azari & iii, basic soul unit, jacques greene, lunice and sixtoo, but 2012 has seen a new breed of no-nonsense house and techno producers come up via labels like turbo recordings and naked lunch. this *dovercourt ep* features three very talented producers: kevin mcphee, nautiluss and gingy. their tracks are a dedication to their hometown of toronto. being removed from the house/techno epicentres of berlin and london, these three are much less interested in what is fashionable or trendy, and more in bringing us straight to the point, no frails jacking house music. i have been playing these three extensively in my dj sets, and i hope you will too. so out to toronto, this one is for you! enjoy. martyn

following the first release on my lit label is from the quite brilliantly named, bebop & rocksteady. this might be a new name to some but the guys behind this project are lukes anger & ben mallott. after playing catalunya throughout the year i felt this tune needed to see a release, its just so f***ing good. its response on the dancefloor was devastating. anyone who has seen me dj recently would remember this one in my set, it gets a massive reaction once that drop comes in. i will still be playing this all year, a proper slice of good wonky techno. -addison groove

to celebrate seven years at the top, hive audio presents 7 years hive - the third compilation to come out on the clubs fledgling music imprint, dedicated to exposing hive resident artists and friends to the wider world. once again club and label honchos adrian wollhaf and samuel gmur - collectively known as animal trainer - have curated the compilation, cherry picking more modern house gems that have served as plat du jour over the last year.

sons and daughters follow up their silver spell / optimo remix package with a second 12 inch. this time round they focus on orion, taken from their latest album mirror mirror, which was afforded universal critical acclaim on release last year and described by q as a creative rebirth. the 12 inch features 3 mixes kicking off with the emperor machine remix, the solo project of andy meecham from chicken lips. next up psychedelic occultist umberto giving it some strange brew with his mix, and wrapping up the package are glaswegian djs wrong island with their own particular take on the track.

forth in the hot waves compilation series kicks off the new year in style with this eight track vinyl double pack with some hot, hot licks! the hot creations offshoot has gone from strength to strength and this hot waves volume does little to disappoint.

it has been a long time coming, but we have finally got rayko to release a small collection of his infectious creations with us. he first cropped up on nang with his distinctive addition to volume 3 of our array series which picking up the record of the month accolade in mixmag and went down a storm at the nang parties. >in the cave< is a two track ep with an edit from ohm fat, acting as a prelude to an album due out next year.

belgrades nightclubs provide relaxation for all fans of electronic music throughout the year. electronic sound spreads its vibration from slavija - the heart of belgrade, to belgrades kalemegdan fortress over to the mouth of sava and danube rivers, where you can expect daily and nightly entertainment. end of summer is a special experience of the year, where people spread atoms of positive energy and they dont allow the season to be over. therefore we decided to mark the end of the summer with vinyl ep named >ikebana<, belgrades dj and producer marko vukovi. his music style leads to adrenaline and prepares people for the coming cold days.

taiki and nulight or to their friends rowan harrington and erka chinbayer have both been djing/producing for many years both in very different circles. taikis career started back in 2008 under his old alias name site 1 who was a house/electro producer. they joined forces and started working together in 2011 which now seems like a lifetime ago considering on what they have achieved in such a short time. when they first started out working together they were making a lot of dubstep, house and electro influenced bass music as we call it now. being heavily into garage, house and electronic dance music there sound heavily progressed across the spectrum of dance music. taiki and nulight released their first ep in february 2012 on subway recordings which gained a lot of support from the likes of mistajam, crookers, herve zinc, redlight, foamo, roska, benga, skream, adam f, hatcha, n type and more. gaining them a lot of frequent airtime on bbc radio 1, 1xtra, kiss 100 and rinse fm. now nearly a year and a half since they have joined forces, they have received massive support from some of the most respected djs out there not to mention air time nearly every week on radio 1 and kiss 100. with their next release on the horizon and due to drop december time 2012 on bengas very well respected label benga beats there is so much more that you will see from these boys and so much new material to hear.

konkoma remixed sees three of konkomas choicest album cuts remixed and reworked by three of the most exciting synth laden afro-electro producers around today. with the original versions rooted in 1970s ghana, konkoma remixed adds modern edge to their rich blend of afro-funk, jazz, soul and traditional african rhythms. their debut album, released earlier this year through soundway records, won plaudits for its sophisticated mix of afrocentric music and soulful melodies.
