a strange confluence of sound that sounds part krautrock synth label brain records, part hyperdub. techno haze and synth wormholes with spectacular sound design that has banged at berghain and soundtracked winter night drives. greenspan is known mainly for his work with junior boys and jessy lanza and taraval is a longtime touring member of caribou, but both have released several 12” and eps of electronic exploration over the past few years. inspired by synthesizer minimalists like jd emmanuel, cluster and john carpenter, the two attempted to create a type of dance music with hardware that was indebted to their influences but did not feel intrinsically retrogressive. the idea was to make a type of raw synthesizer and drum machine music that could be listened to beside the hypermodern techno of pearson sound or actress. the cover art is a tribute to a mysterious mural that looms over the hamilton ontario area where the album was recorded. each of the five tracks on the ep were edited down from much longer recording jams which were done with hardware sequencers in real time. the recording was done completely off the floor with no overdubs or added material after the fact.

wysing polyphonic has emerged from the wysing polyphonic music festival, now in its 8th year, which has programmed the likes of beatric dillon, elaine mitchener, hannah sawtell, helena hauff, holly herndon, james holden, karen gwyer, klara lewis, nik colk void and russell haswell, amongst many others, play at the cambridgeshire centre.

it s been a while since we last heard from juniper, the manchester-based duo who showed much promise with early outings on underground quality and the like. having previously popped up on a various artists 12-, they return to the ever-essential meandyou with a strong statement of intent, packing five tracks into an ep that presents their subversive style immaculately. -indigo children- is a head-turning cut that fuses uptempo motor city style electro and techno with industrial tones, while -life source negative- switches stance for a beautiful, craftily constructed drift into woozy deep house. every track is noteworthy on this release, balancing immediacy and warmth against experimental textures in a way that sits very comfortably on meandyou.

these ones keep floors moving! championing an inimitable groove, the possé present three club ready tracks on their season s greetings ep, combining the know-how of house with the energy and spontaneity of a live band set up. recorded at the legendary citisound and rec studios in sydney, the tracks on ken004 each deliver different perceptions of the up-tempo house beat they’re quickly becoming known for. the title track is probably the heaviest delivery from the label to date, highlighted by the iconic drip of the tb-303. cheeky guitar licks and 808 rhythms jump in and out of the tracks on the ep, keeping it fresh on the live tip.

with spring well and truly in the air and party season in step, mosaic records boss steve o sullivan launches mosaic s 38th release - joining forces with fellow londoner frazer campbell for a new studio collaboration. not content with letting the dust settle from his recent work alongside ricardo villalobos, o sullivan has stayed a little closer to his london home to work with frazer campbell for this latest tag team effort. a dextrous hand in the mix and producer in his own right, campbell has a passion for all things that sit on the deeper end of the house, techno and electronica spectrum. in his own words, thought emoting music is central to his mission having launched open recordings and elliot project records last year: a worthy sparring partner indeed. since the start of the year, the pair had their heads down focusing on finding a happy medium between deeply swung grooves and the airy influences of detroit - shaking out an interesting trio of tracks for their label debut. far from treading the obvious path, the main event a1 hypnotonic revels in a lighter touch as metronomic beat programming cycles endlessly to a held set of notes. off-kilter bass pulses, warped out vocals and effect splashes all intersect to keep the energy input constant as they capture one of those less frenzied moments where the very notion of time seems to hold still. make no mistake, this is a slow burn vibe. head to the flipside b1 soultonic to plunge yourself straight into hip twitching mode when the lights go down. a deep chord, syncopated hats and deftly tweaked synths echo as a full dose of shuffle inflicts its move. simple yet so effective, this track will not let you down. winding things back up a touch, the tougher edge of alleyway funk pushes the feeling on thanks to a thumping kick and a deft nod towards uk garage. met with a soft glisten of a rhodes piano and tweakish melody, the pair round things off in a boyant mood - fans of soul capsule and schatrax will no doubt agree. repeat play of this ep is recommended as its all the more rewarding for it.

hot on the heels of inre rydmen, the ep that the swedish multi-instrumentalist group tommy awards released via origin peoples in mid-june, come the remixes. drafting in a cohort of the very best, this impending release will see the likes of jonny nash, coyote and mystic jungle tribe jump on the remix duties, touching original productions with their unmistakable idiosyncrasies. bartosz kruczynski, the polish producer better known under his earth trax guise, is another name credited on the release, offering up a 15-minute epic as he reinterprets penultimate track, hans logan. also to see an appearance on this ep is the romanian eirwud mudwasser, offering up a rendition of the track ‘mike sierra foxtrot’ reworked in a similar esoteric expanse, albeit it quite a bit more lucid. oscillating electronics mesmerise and an arpeggiating synth melody gradually make way for marimbas. sweeping, elongated strums of guitar stretch out like the horizon and the dialogue between various melodic elements continues throughout as we bear witness to various transformations. irregardless of pacing, the meditative quality remaining consistent throughout each glorious edit.

hyperdub+ warp records artists babyfather and gaika rework two 18+ tracks from their second album collect. hyperdubs dean blunt, a category-rejecting artist and an art-pop provocateur tackles drama under his babyfather guise, looping a low slung swagger beat under the vocals of dj escrow and samia mirza. warp records multi-disciplined south london artist gaika rips apart glow into a discordant sub-low bassline drone, pitching samias vocal as slow as can go, harsh high pitch tones and field recordings. one of the strongest things we’ve heard from the divisive producer.

tendts are two brothers that make -music that you can da nce to, or not-. it seems an odd phrase, but aptly explains the duality of the greek duo. the compositions of christos and fotis papadakis are both emotive and movement inducing, even though they are written and structured with disparate elements that refuse to fall into obvious patterns. they consist of palpitating beats, imaginative textures, seductive melodies and sporadic bursts of treated vocals. it s everywhere is a concept ep soundtracking tendts intergalatic encounter with the pleiadians (dimension traversing nordic aliens to the unenlightened ) at the far edge of the universe. upon their journey home they brought with them not only costumes, masks and relics of extraterrestrial civilizations, they brought with them the spirits of two great celestial beings, momongo and floflolo. fotis and christos were the reincarnation of these two and the main purpose of their return was to enlighten the people of earth about the beginning of the era of the cosmic swimmer.

casino shanghai was a -techno-pop- band started in the mid-80s in mexico city. they released their debut and only album -film- in december of 1985. an album considered today as cult status. casino shanghai were part of a great cultural change in mexico and its music scene. the band made various controversial appearances on tv when a band without a drummer or guitarist was unheard of. all members had been in different notorious bands in the local scene. ulalume was the lead singer of the casuals (punk-new wave) and denseundergrowth (avant-garde). carlos robledo and walter schmidt were part of size (post-punk) and have been playing together for many years in decibel (experimental). humberto alvarez played with mcc (prog rock) and is currently a well-known musician and multi-instrumentist. before the band split-up they recorded two last songs in 1986, -le tombeau d edgar poe- and -l action minimal-, as part of an unreleased solo ep for ulalume. these tracks were edited in 2014 on 12&#8243,,, by mannequin records together with a remix by in aeternam vale. the music of casino shanghai was also used for the soundtrack of some mexican films. -crónicas de familia- directed by diego lópez and nominated for the ariel award for best original soundtrack in 1986, and -juana la cantinera- directed by josé loza. -film- has been restored and remastered for this new edition including all original tracks plus two bonus: -le tombeau d edgar poe (haunted version)- and -cuerpos huecos- (spanish version of -hollow bodies- available only on a promotional 7&#8243,,,). limited to 350 copies on white vinyl with a new artwork and printed inner sleeve with photos and song lyrics.

oraculo records looks to the past in very few occasions and monomen deserves to be one of the exceptions. the norvegian band momonen released back in 2007 one of the best electronic post-punk albums of the beginning of xxi centurty on trust me records, not only for the music quality but because all the band members had only 19 years old at the time. suddenly the band gets dissolved after only 1 ep and 1 album. now, 10 years later, oraculo records proudly recovers the best tracks of their album (+1 one of the previous ep) on a record that will be very searched and valued. all tracks mastered and remastered specially for vinyl by eric van wonterghem at prodam studio (berlin).

floorplan delivers two excellent reinterpretations of radio slave ‘feel the same’, the title track from the rekids founder’s forthcoming album. made up of former underground resistance member robert hood and his daughter lyric, the detroit duo needs little introduction and last year saw the release of their illustrious album ‘victorious’ on hood’s m-plant. the first remix of ‘feel the same’ extends to eight minutes long and is a journey, incorporating echoing chords, intricate percussion and a medley of esoteric effects whilst cackling laughter ebbs in and out of the mix. meanwhile, the flip sees a more up front interpretation with its heady hook, rolling drums and energetic claps.

we’re seeing red! promnite’s absolutely mental snake charmer ep gets the physical edition it deserves. this ain’t no soundcloud special — snake charmer is a four-track dive into life itself, showcasing the collaborative songwriting chops, elevated sound design and alwaysfunky approach that makes promnite one of the most exciting young producers in the game. this cali-via-nyc producer (and co-founder of la’s beloved athletixx dj collective) eschews run-of-the mill bangers for the bittersweet turn up of “gunsmoke,” featuring denzel curry, nell, j.k. the reaper and twelve’len, and short-story worthy clubland tales on “ride around” with adam vida. meanwhile, prom’ssmooth stepper “call me” with mark johns nuzzles up against the space-age trunk rattle of “cruise’n usa,” featuring ladonnis. promnite is bringing the love back to club music. for all their futuristic thump and sonic precision, the tracks on his snake charmer ep are wonderfully, messily human.

nicola cruz polishes off a trippy tryptic of cult releases for multi culti with espÌritu. folklorica s chosen lord, nicola cruz has shepherded the masses from the church of high tempos and brought trance-formed revellers down to earth with his fusion of crisp electronics and organic, indigenous vibrations. miraculously, he has brought this style of music to europe s major big room clubs and huge festival stages worldwide, pleasing crowds in the habit of being hypnotized by homogenous house music. espìritu de protección opens as a revelation, two seconds into the groove and you re deep in the tribe. you re dancing, everybody s dancing, things dub out, melt down, and a haunting vocal wisps through the room, tickling the crowd from their tailbones to their pineal glands. just as you recover from that spell, in fly the flutes. every yogi in the vicinity sways into the front and all of a sudden, you know you re getting laid tonight. that s the kind of power we re dealing with: cruz control. it s so potent we had to carefully extract the flute-a-pella and serve it up separately to use as a cult dj tool. on the flip side, not one but two slamming remixes of tzantza from disco halal-defekting russian duo: simple symmetry. vinyl lovers rejoice in the supreme exclusivity on the digitally unavailable folklorica dub, a supreme tranceformational party tool with enough flute to elevate the mind of the many.

for the fifth instance in their reissue series, echovolt records brings us four lush house gems by one of the most influential italian producers. carlo troja aka don carlos. don carlos started as a dj in the late 70s and debuted as a producer towards the end of the 80s with the cult single alone , which pretty soon became one of the anthems of the international deep house scene. inspiration ep focuses on some of his finest productions from the mid 90s that were only available on his rare aqua vinyl promo ep. this releases makes an effort to capture don carlos unique approach on classic house with lot of afro-american jazz sounds and ambient influences, that created a timeless deep jazzy house with a strong mediterranean twist on it!

after their highly regarded debut on attic music called “laq 02” back in may 2016 boston 168 are back with a 4-track spanning release named “khidi raver”.
again, the italian duo delivers a well balanced release that cleverly touches different sides of modern day techno music. from the slow paced chug “khidi raver” to the emotive tones of “blu bridge”, the a-side already showcases the duo’s versatile pallette.
