repress 2018 - it is not a secret anymore that manchester has been a deephouse capital city since quite a while. the meandyou. party series is the main spot here with resident djs juniper & arnaldo amongst others spinning alongside their favourite acts like lowtec (whose track on smallville 14 was already a homage called meandyou.dub), jus-ed, dj qu, kassem mosse, move d and the smallville posse. for our catalogue number 30, juniper & arnaldo are delivering four house tracks from outta space, that fit perfectly into the smallville vein. the global village of sweet house music is rising.

it s been a while since we last heard from juniper, the manchester-based duo who showed much promise with early outings on underground quality and the like. having previously popped up on a various artists 12-, they return to the ever-essential meandyou with a strong statement of intent, packing five tracks into an ep that presents their subversive style immaculately. -indigo children- is a head-turning cut that fuses uptempo motor city style electro and techno with industrial tones, while -life source negative- switches stance for a beautiful, craftily constructed drift into woozy deep house. every track is noteworthy on this release, balancing immediacy and warmth against experimental textures in a way that sits very comfortably on meandyou.

smallville records celebrate their 10th anniversary with the 3rd and 4th part of the „ways series. it started in 2011 with twentyfour ways (smallville 24)- a various artists 4 track-12 with timeless music only. it continued in 2013 with smallville 35 (thirtyfive ways) same concept, but different artists.

3024 is back with a quintessentially unique and current take on the hardcore continuum with a brand new various artists ep featuring music by label head martyn, advanced percussive science by yak, midsummer melancholy by baltra and avant-techno by the manchester/berlin duo juniper.

boogie box launched in style last year with a release from the mighty stl, and now they re revisiting that strong first step with a clutch of smartly selected remixes from some deep cover operators. juniper drops two dubs of -haze & kraze- that press squashed synth pressure, found sounds and splattering fx into tight but funky grooves with a distinctly nocturnal feel. fold s dub of -hide & seek- spaces things out beautifully, taking a crooked, steppers approach that works wonderfully with the source material. jonas friedlich s own dub of -hide & seek- takes a dustier path through the undergrowth, completing a package of truly non-conformist techno that chimes with stl s own outsider spirit.

nicholas returns to church with a six track mini lp. correspondant welcome berlin duo hinode having established themselves with a string of well received cuts on their own science fiction imprint, they were spotted by chance by label boss jennifer cardini on a recent record-shopping jaunt. with a raw, no-rules sense of machine funk running through everything they create, they’re the perfect match for correspondant and make their label debut with four numerical delights. i lights the analog fire with raw sleaze and off-beat mischief. unkempt and wily, it sets the tone for the entire ep: ii writhes snake-like with its slinky kicks and purring textures, iii slurs with bass groans and shakes with paranoid, alien melodies while iv closes with much more of a tunnelling, sense-blurring experience. total machine harmony, unbounded synthetic creativity, made to mix and wholly outer-planetary. hinode and correspondant are a match made in the stars.

when the smallville record store was founded in 2005, people were surprised and regarded it as an experiment. everybody discussed the downfall of vinyl sales and the upcoming market of downloads these days. just a bunch of people regarded record shops, vinyl labels and wonderful warm sounding clubs as the places of true magic. smallvilles finest stefan marx, who is responsible for all artwork-related things and therefore the visual impact that smallville always had, got a call once at night from another one of those dreamers and activists, ata macias. he came up with the fabulous idea to create a standard 12inch cover saying: vinyl kills mp3.
