on the mean streets of chicagos infamous southside, a music pioneer was born… dj slugo, born thomas kendricks, is most famous for his influential and fundamental position as the original king of ghetto house. with 20+ years in the game, over 20 albums in his pocket and over 50 cds on the street, began a journey that lead him to become one of the original creators of a style of music commonly known as ghetto house, more recently regarded as juke.

after the highly anticipated release of his third studio album decay, efdemin presents the first part of a remix series featuring his favourite producers. bristols underground hero asusu inflates the reduced album opener some kind of up and down yes with deepest bass and beautiful scapes to the max in a true photek-style. last years control by staffan linzatti was one of the favourite constants to be played in every efdemin or lawrence set. luckily his version of solaris is another epic hymn here with futuristic enhancements of the third kind.the most extraordinary piece on decay versions part 1 is the borderland states rework of parallaxis. efdemins studio-mate john gürtler recorded that beauty with adding acoustic instruments only and sounds like a meeting of moondog with wim mertens.

luckyme are very proud to present the ‘rosario ep from s-type.s-types rise started in spring 2012. emerging, gleaming and show-stopping from rustie’s seminal bbc essential mix was a track called ‘billboard’ from a new producer that was part of the luckyme family as far back as his teenage years. the track had soundcloud and blog commentators looking around for the hugest most galactic superlatives for this ‘superhero’ music. as skyscraping as the biggest us hip hop instrumentals but born of the ferment of glasgow’s world-wowing club world, it made it into end of year ‘best of’ polls as well as the dj sets of rustie, tnght,and benji b. s-type aka 27 yo scot bobby perman started getting recognised down the shops glasgow. he was catapulted onto a 30 + date us tour and found himself in the studio with kindred spirits araabmuzik and baauer. there were rumours of national electronic goods adverts in south korea and s-type tracks in the running for inclusion on drakes nothing was the same album. on 19th sept 2013, the buzz started all over again as luckyme family member Éclair fifi dropped a new s-type tune ‘rosario’ on her bbc radio 1 in new djs we trust show. now luckyme can announce the wait is over. lm017 aka s-type’s ‘rosario’ ep is coming out on 16/6/2014. ‘rosario’ sets the scene with a 2 min intro called ‘outside (inside)’, featuring rustie and yc the cynic, a rapper from hunts pont, the bronx that xxl called ‘one of the most promising artists in recent years’, the complex wordplay sounding perfect over bobby’s wide screen arrangement. ‘franco’ is a fierce club banger with plenty of his signature chord work. ‘lost girls’ stunts and fizzes in the way only an s-type track can. for the outro ‘inside (outro)’, bobby’s sweeping instrumental sets the scene for long island mc (and one time flipmode squad member) roc marciano, who sharply describes the beat as ‘historic’. s-type addicts, he’s back. early dj support from hudmo, kode 9, baauer, joker, rl grime and jackmaster.

leao is the house alter ego of respected tech producer robotneedsoil. here he supplies two killer house tracks that are given the remix treatment by two of the industries current favourites, kindimmer & jacob b. the ep lifts off with the original mix of drop that and wastes no time getting down to business. tough beats and throbbing bass meets cool stabs and vocal stabs urging you to -take your body back-. the jacob b remix of the same track is ruthless. taking no prisoners with a sub heavy mix that never veers from dance floor destruction. the b-side kicks off with leao s second original offering. this is house with heavy footwear. something more stomps, elbows and swings it s way through an intricately placed web of percussion. kindimmer s alien remix subtly uses elements of the original while at the same time segueing into new territory. its deep and eerie, soulful and moody. all the things that have made the berlin based greek one of the most sought after remixers in europe

the us producer recently joined the ranks of talent residing in berlin and its evident the european techno capital is having a subtle sway on his sound on the basis of this apotheke ep, most notably the title track. theres a sense of driving momentum wedged deep in the sonic dna of this track, complemented well by a low slung bassline and airy synth melodies. elsewhere huertas sometime studio sparring partner urulu adds some percussive flex to the pulsating swing set, whilst kingsleys groove swerves the sound back towards deeper house and is apparently named in honour of a friends cat. glenn astro of the tartelet crew ends the release with a wonderfully bumping take on the track.

pmx soundz is the cool newcomer in the ostfunk portfolio from france and he presents with his - the golden brown one of the most interesting soundpieces of the berlin clubscene in 2014 - a real anthem for the clubs for sunrises in the morning.
