the fourth release of another earth, a small dutch vinyl only label with limited 300 pressings, has finally arrived. the a side is proper techno created by dave simon. a1 in acid we trust is a peak time acid techno track and a2 path of ability has a warm detroit feel. the b side by anders ilar together with john h is more obscure. deep weird acid techno that seems to come from another planet.

‘neverending story’ opens with ‘a dimension reflected’ and its introductory mixture of keys and beats. the beat is built upon piece by piece, while slippery synths fill in the upper registers. the second track, ‘planet texture’, opens with a blossoming pad which is soon joined by a steady kick and some bouncing synths. before long an adventurous bassline joins in and puts the track into full groove mode. there’s a twinkling synth floating above it all, sometimes present, sometimes not, making you wonder if you’re really hearing it at all. next up is the first track on the b-side, ‘old problems’. filled with little samples and microsounds, the track uses its beat to push through heady and sometimes disorientating array of colours that swirl across the track. a wide synth enters affairs a third of the way in and helps push the track out onto the dancefloor. ‘neverending story’ comes next, featuring a skittering beat and atmospherics that seem to come from far away. a low bassline pops in and out of the track here and there, while pondersome some keys complete the mood. the ep closes with ‘algorithm’, another scrambled, unpredictable track. the track opens with a rainbow of keys and synths, darting between your ears in their affected manner. an almost glitchy ambient track, it brings to a calm close a fantastic release.

ow finally on vinyl: artbat are bringing their first full ep release to diynamic music. the three-tracker -planeta- starts off with the title track -planeta-, a rapid-fire techno odyssey that might as well be taken from a relentless pursuit in a futuristic action movie. this is followed by the gloomy bassline of -prometheus-. heavy on percussive elements, the track is divided in half by a cascading synth-break only to return with more layers of percussions, strings and the hypnotic bassline. closing off the ep is -sand in your shoes- featuring london based artist dino lenny, who has previously worked with madonna or wu-tang clan and produced remixes for underworld, missy elliot or timbaland. the collab track is a dreamy deep-house tune and a perfectly emotive way to finish the record.

la rioja in spain may not be thought of as a hotbed of avant garde techno and electronica, but psychoskunk has been quietly issuing an uncompromising salvo of proudly underground releases since as far back as 2004. error etica, an alias from label boss victor martinez, is at the controls for this tenth vinyl release on the label, and he s sounding as proudly left of centre as ever. diatonic scale locks into an insistent groove, but the real magic of the track lies in the grubby notes punching their way around the drums, capped off with artful distortion that gives a wonderful bite to the production. tetratonic scale keeps things fuzzy but blows the rhythms wide open for a more poised, patient kind of techno incantation. r2pis remix of the track meanwhile clamps it back in order with a stern beat and a slow-release minimalism guiding the evolution of the track.

as well as manning his own label duro, theus mago can be found slinging out heat on turbo, kill the dj and more recently ombra. the mexican producer returns to home turf for his latest transmission, serving up one original track with two killer remixes. -inertials- is a rowdy beast in its original form, tapping up a breakbeat roll, dirty wave synth stabs and plenty more sonic debris for a cut that spans a whole lot of styles and makes them gel together seamlessly. inigo vontier takes the original and makes it into a bone-rattling drum track to batter the crowd into submission very late on in the dance. jamie paton takes a different approach on the b-side, weaving a little tenderness into the mix with some elegant synth lines that offset the raw bite of the drums beautifully.

solar phenomena continues a high quality and high rate of releases after eps from the likes of stl and fluxion with a new one from mystica tribe - the musical alias of tokyo-based producer, taka noda. here he draws on everything from dub, soul, bass music, rhythm and blues and will always freak you out with his unusual sounds.
this excellently absorbing ep starts with “love is all right”, a fusion of asian percussion and reggae drums that is high tempo and funky. the bright steelpan sounds offset the razor sharp percussion and make for a sunny dub that will get any crowd going. the same fusion vibes continues but in more blissed out and slow motion fashion on “lawn track”, the beautiful cosmic psyche-out that is “ash” and supple space journey that is “voyage” with its intoxicating melodies and loose, tumbling percussion. this is unusual but essential music from an exclusive talent.

with an arsenal of releases on labels like ndatl, ppu, black catalogue, 2mr, and harsh riddims, atlanta artist stefan ringer presents the first release on his own imprint fwm entertainment. this contribution contains a fluid spectrum of sounds . “southside-, is a soulful, sexy summer house cut. “great beat” follows up in a similar vein, jazz inspired, introspective, and upbeat. while “wanna be bad” is a freaky skating rink inspired track. “got me 123&#8243,, is a hypnotic 2 step groove, and rounding it out is “fr shawty” a slowed vocal stepper.

the third and final instalment in frits two bar house music & chord stuff sees him continue to showcase his distinct style of lo-fi, wonky house - both quirky & unconventional, yet instantly endearing in the same breath. served up first in frits melting pot, theme 09 kicks things off with a shuffling, ukg esque rhythm and rnb flexed vocal snippets, alongside floaty arps and that chord stuff that swells and stabs in the mix. throw in a weighty bass and frits trademark analogue wonkiness and you ve got a prime example of a wentink wobbler. next up, theme 10 hits you with an organ melody reminiscent of a warped crystal waters, before twisting and turning into an edgy off-kilter house track. a glitchy synth line, bouncing bass and dreamy pads will hook you till the end. flip it and theme 11 offers up a chuggier affair where glistening arps are interspersed with squelchy and sustained synths. elements and effects are combined throughout, mesmerising you with a glimpse into the wonky world of the frits. closing it out wentink leaves you with a quirky club stomper, coupling a gritty bassline, saturated loops and off kilter, lo-fi stabs all tied together with a driving kick. across this 3-part series frits has left the fancy titles at the door, letting the music do the talking and demonstrating his penchant for making interesting, engaging and distinctive house music, not your average two bar house music and chord stuff.

it was 2010 when massimiliano pagliara and discodromo got together and started working on costellazione k78. it s finally time to reveal this piece of italo-cosmic beauty landing on cocktail d amore music. the spaceship starts off and a vocoder announces the destination. in the middle of the track there is an interference. is that a hole? oh right they are out of it! going higher, higher, higher through space-time. b side is taken by a dub version where drums play the main role. everything is condensing together, it feels like connection is lost, but the bass line comes in and takes control. destination reached, time to celebrate. thank you guys for the efxapella, we ll all do good use of it. greetings from planet earth!
