the united kingdom and new zealand unite on the latest get digital release, as tim green and emerson todd team up for two tracks of trendy tech-house. both of these guys had a splendid 2009. tim with his releases on dirtybird and emerson providing a contribution to get digital, at the end of last summer. their initial collaboration came in the form of exercise, which popped up on a compilation from sven väths admired cocoon label. make meis driven by crisp and tight beats that one would expect from these two producers, before tumbling into a 1920s speakeasy jazz drum solo. a flurry of vocals shoo off the drummers as the beats takeover again with an intensified energy. after all that dancing, you will surely need some foot treatment. that is where nail clippertakes over. a sonic pedicure, to easy your tired toes? not quite

minz aka michel sanchez-infante, is a dj, producer and live performer from the netherlands. after producing for a few years, his productions caught the attention of ripperton in may 2007. ripperton released minz debut >un/mute ep< and the follow-up >jade ep< on his perspectiv label. both were well received and followed by a string of remixes on labels like connaisseur, suruba and 2pin, and compilation tracks for meerestief and perspectiv. after taking some time out to work on his sound, minz is getting back up to speed with releases for suruba x and now for ransom note. his style is slowly shifting to a more housey and organic sound, while keeping the deepness, thoughtful composition and meticulous attention to detail. tracks like ganzfeld demonstrate how minz has the ability to create outstanding productions that grow slowly on you before knocking you off your feet. on remix duties is the illustrious lee jones. hot off his brilliant ep on cityfox, lee blesses ransom note with his indelible take on electronic music. as deep as it gets and with a powerful exploration of the original, lees remix of ganzfeld is stunning journey sure to set off the after party in all of us.

michigan resident and currently one of americas (who actually live there) most promising producers steps up to the gpm plate. a regular of acclaimed stateside labels such as spectral, wolf + lamb as well as european outfits dumb-unit and cityfox. lee curtiss is known for a sound, which fuses disco, house and sex. love in the key of freak is no exception, in fact the perfect mixture to cure any saturday night fever. before house made people jack, disco was making them freak.

lil tony is hotter than hot. while starting to dj and produce years ago, tony has been a staple in the scandinavian club scene since the early 90s. an amazing dj (actually one of the favourites around the moodmusic hq) and a talented producer, tony started with the fbi project with roberto rodriguez and kimmo oksanen before dropping some serious damage on raw trax vol. 1 last year on moodmusic. caned by everyone from luciano (he edited his own version of semble) to dj hell, tonys raw grooves cut the crap and moved people when other producers had to take a leak. hardworking, never forgetting his gentleman manners, tony is here to stay and raw trax vol. 2 is a bold new statement, and his best work to date. solid state takes the classic detroit influenced drum machine vs piano theme a step forward, a impeccable jam of 15 minutes with the beat keeping the pace, this has been roadproofed the last 6 months to good effect. the b-side karamba is a dry, tight driven tech-workout, perfect mixtool for the deeper techno as well as housier sets. it just works well. the closing checkpoint charlie is a tale of >lost in helsinki< – dark mean bass wanders around and gives space for the chuggin main line, monotonic body music at its best.

hyperdub has long been a fan of grime don terror danjahs razor sharp productions, his unparalleled, skittering rhythm science, deadly riffs, brilliant technicolour synth squiggles, gremlin cackle signature and general ear for a catchy tune. on this first ep for the label, he showcase two strains of his many skills. acid cranks up the energy, with an ascending synth crashing into stuttering drums and synths. they play hide and seek with each other for a bit, before the track unexpectedly breaks into a 4 / 4 house rhythm, and then shatters into pieces again. on the flipside, pro plus, terror is joined by long time collaborator d.o.k for a slice of their classic sound - an infectious, twisted sickly sweet synth melody wrapped around syncopated, stop start drums to mean effect.

final daniel wang release on rush hour, incl. 6 tracks not on the recent compilation. the balihu bootleg ep is the final release in the best of balihu series on rush hour. this 6 track ep holds two unreleased tracks (!) and four early works and b-sides. this ep starts with sylver belt which was included on the never released and much in demand balihu 002. not feeling it and east side hustle are early b-side balihu tracks that were not featured on the compilation. side b continues with the instrumental version of if it feels good. this deep, electronic track was taken from the vault of danny and has not been released before. shadows & unhouse are again two early danny tracks that were not on the balihu compilation. and with this limited ep we close off this wonderful project with danny. we hope to see him back one day with new music

profan (...remember wolfgang voigts abstract techno label from the 1990s) is back from the future, and again complicates the situation. like his earlier projects, the brand new sog (strictly limited to 400 copies) release combines seemingly familiar and extremely unfamiliar signs, and in the most unusual way bends them around the utterly familiar bass drum. the result is a conspiracy of four sound frescos of peculiar beauty, and indeed they deserve the title abweichung (engl. deviance) - named after voigts painting featured on the cover. this is minimal art techno that raises questions.
profan 32 will be released before profan 31which will be released a bit later. yet both are heralds of the art publication/double cd compilation: wolfang voigt – werkschau to be released in spring 2010.

its been a while since the last rsb release, but then tracks like this dont come along every day! for their first vinyl appearance on a label other than their own, enigmatic german duo ancient methods do the honourable thing and break out the whip, a track that comes across like a 2-step party in the foundry of thor himself. lets lazily label it anvil techno, because as far as we are aware no has yet invented a genre that adequately desribes music such as this. and as we have come to expect, much the same can be said of the evil sickness that is eat like hawks by bjorn svin (with a little help from karsten pflum, jona olesen & copyflex!). it starts like it means to go on, with a gnarled loop and indecipherable distorted vocals, and is gradually tweaked and augmented to the point of destruction. all manner of ill bass, overdriven filters, zaps, clanky drums & feedback join the party before the whole affair is brought to an abrupt end by the strange foreign lady that we have come to know and love over the course of the track. truly music for small, sweaty, strobe-driven cellars.

12inch debut for whatchawannado, a new label featuring edits by djs who have graced the decks at las infamous do over party. stones throws left field psych man james pants leads things off with an excellent edit of jefferson airplanes white rabbit entitled through the rabbit hole. for the more dancefloor oriented, check the flip where (thee) mike b takes charanga 76s famous spanish version of aint no stopping us now and extends those banging disco breaks for days before finally letting it slip into the vocals.

one of the most in demand tracks from the >technique< album finally gets a full single release complete with re-fixes from prosumer and kruse & nuernberg. ernestos vocal fully lends itself to the prosumer soundsignature, his mix floats and weaves around ernestos vocal, peaking around his own chords before stripping things back to bare essentials and rebuilding like only he can. the kruse& nuernberg mix is hypnotic, percussive old school house music at its best. they take a small snippet of the vocal and build the groove relentlessly until the whole room is shaking. achim brandenburg aka prosumer lives in berlin where he is resident at panorama bar, weaving together the finest blend of soulful house sounds. an expert in classic chicago house and detroit techno, his first release was in 2004 on 240 volts, followed by playhouse and ostgut, where he released his debut album with murat tepeli in 2008. separately, hamburg based florian kruse & nils nûrnberg have created some of the most interesting deep house around in the past few years, with early highlights incl nils >caught a glimpse< on 8bit, and florians >love hurts< release on om records. since then, as solo producers, but more importantly together as kruse & nûrnberg they have climbed closer to the tree-top with their unique brand of mouth-watering underground house.

>its not the same< is the candy for the costumer, a potential tech-house hymn, seldom before house vocals were so well arranged with a techno track and merged to a neurotransmitter pushing sound impression.
the enliven deep acoustics remix foils the whole thing with the desired portion of funk and is showing perspectives, jack would have appreciated.

support: steve bug, jay haze, someone else, mark henning, matt star, pan pot, agaric, jason emsley!!! 2009 has been an extremely busy year for billy dalessandro. on top of having recently relocated from his hometown of chicago to montreal, the year has marked his most engaging yet in terms of gigging and musical output. along with a successful three-month european tour, billy released a string of highly acclaimed singles, and his latest artist album (not to mention his growing catalog under the huge hephner and tyrone aliases). however, it should come as no surprise that the producer has saved the best for last.
>strombooty< (for details, consult your local urban dictionary) is the modern dalessandro sound, combining heady experimentation with dance floor prowess. the eps title track is a deep, yet explosive number that creeps in subtly like dark clouds on the horizon, before raining down a devastating thunderstorm over the speakers.
the latin-flavored >el tapatio< and super-deep cut >speak to me< make up the b-side. although the tracks represent different aspects of the dalessandro sound, the commonality they share is a thoughtful approach to dance music that much of the formulaic output these days lacks.

the original sees okain take the warm, techy path. a lo-slung groove leads us into the melodic strings. matched with sharp efx, strong beats and a demonic laugh, this is a sure fire winner. first on remix duty is label head alex dee. toughening proceedings, alex creates a driving, somewhat tribal work out. relentless beats work brilliantly with the now chopped vocal, to create dramatic tension that builds to a crescendo in the break. a fantastic mix. a great package already, and one that just got even better with the edition of daniel mehlharts incredible rework. the frankfurt producer is hot property right now, and this mix showcases perfectly just why. deep, warm and moody, with huge helpings of classic detroit touches, the originals strings are accompanied by weighty synth stabs, to stunning effect. essential.

dont be afraid is a dual format vinyl / digital label championing underground uk house and techno music. the first 4 releases will be eps from semtek, with remixes from a range of talented, original and respected producers. on dba001 semtek combines elements of his many musical influences, with the skills he has carefully honed over time. the ep kicks off with the deep housey feel of bells, before moving on to the tracky breakbeat undertones of key, while the old skool vibe of village completes the package. exclusive to the vinyl is the warped acid dancefloor cut tower, inspired by the sound of early belgian techno and the dance music of legendary frankfurt clubs like dorian grey.

the yore captain returns to his own yore imprint on the labels 21st release. shadow city presents different visions of funky house grooves. the a sides the y theme gets deeply moving with a funky house pulse before stoking the fire with the addition of speaking voices (trippingly intoning the q&a what are we doing this for? and the music), a move which single-handedly jumpstarts the track. after the voices appear, the grooves intensity escalates and plunges deeper, its gyroscopic house swing becoming more dizzying and torrential with each passing bar before coming to an acidy storming end. in its opening moments, shadow city opts for a deeper and more serenading vibe by comparison, but thats traded in for a slinkier attack at the three-minute mark that grows progressively more ferocious as the track makes its drastic upwards ascent. a trippin dangerous murder weapon to say the least. watch your heads! the b sides b2 track, mumbai dweller keeps the focus primarily on the bottom end, specifically a strutting tribal-house funk groove thats dragged even deeper by a throbbing bass undertow, adding dark chords to it, giving this ep a darker feeling towards the end. to sum it all up: this is raw house music at its best!

fergie and excentric kicking off the year with ragaroo, a tense builder, winding things up to an uncontrollable level with a mixture of rising and just plain strange sounds, with the usual high production standards that you expect from a fergie track. on remix duties is jus phil (monu digital), who returns to the excentric after his shuffling and bass heavy remix of fergie - break-out from earlier in the year. his take introduces a low slung yet bouncy groove, hooking listeners in before using the weird craggy effects of the original to really take things to a new level of twistedness

after a break of 3 years, fear of flying resurrect their limited label to give an airing to a track that has been getting some serious attention at londons uber club fabric, having been a staple in the sets of supa resident craig richards for some months now. tiger tiger is all about the tension as the 3 minute intro builds and builds with the an arpeggiated synth, deep bass and a spanish female vocal hook before dropping, no doubt, to dance floor pandemonium as the kick is introduced. its anthemic qualities are brought to the fore later on with a string breakdown and more lashings of the ultra catchy spanish female vocal. ekkohaus provides two excellent mixes on the flip – the main remix shimmers along in fine dance floor fashion. super slick percussion and snippets of the main vocal keep pushing the tracks along, occasionally dropping into the full vocal hook to get hands in the air and smiles on faces.

january 1978 was a fruitful month for sun ra. as well as days spent in the recording studios in rome, ra, along with john gilmore, michael ray and luqman ali, played several gigs in italy before flying back to the us. the magic music from one night in the teatro cilak, on 23/01/1978 in milan, is preserved on disco 3000. disco 3000 is arguably among the most important documents of sun ras long musical career, are now once more available in a limited edition!

dark beat is a new label from glasgow, set up to promote its own take on deep, dark atmospherical techno.
after the success of their digital releases this is our first dark beat remixes vinyl which has cuts from the very popular omen and untamed eps from label bosses deepbass & roman toletski.
on the a side we have oddity with a massive remix from mark broom. his remix of oddity is a no nonsense stripped back techno affair with a ripping synth line, the track teases you with a number off small drops before the massive atmospheric breakdown which would bring carnage on any dance floor.
on the b side we have the orb theory with a remix from edit select who seems to be able to to no wrong with his string of releases on his self named label edit select records. his remix explores the realms of atmospherical techno and has a straight up tribal feel about it, this track has been creating quite a fuss at berlins berghain during the early hours. the track has a percussive drive with rolling snares and a beautiful synth line that rises and fades throughout the track.
