like any group enthralled by the history of electronic pop, the fascination movement love remixes. on the heels of their 0.5 ep, and to keep you busy while they put the finishing touches on their debut album, they give you remix vol 1. starcluster twists “radio” into burbling new dancefloor shapes with a tinge of 90s proto-house including 808 drums and roland baselines, alba (a new project with roland sebastian faber and michael black of unit 4/jupiter black) reworks “down again” into something sweeping and nocturnal, adding rock flavored live drums and a new shimmering melody on top. elitechnique stunningly suspends “just pretend” in space with spinning organs, transforming it from a propulsive pop song into something wholly different. in the days of dime a dozen remixes that consist of nothing more than retro-fitting tracks with a 4/4 beat, these beauties show off the originals in new and surprising ways.

if you secretly believe that all of the best dance music has an undercurrent of melancholy then you are in for a treat. 0.5, the debut ep from the fascination movement, doesn?t skimp on either the dancefloor rhythms or the windswept yes-we-remember-new pop romanticism. the fascination movement is looking forwards, not backwards: just because this is music that adapts the same vocabulary created by bands like new order or early orchestral manoeuvres in the dark doesn?t change the fact that from the first arpeggios of ?just pretend? you feel the shock of the new. of course, you may be too busy humming along to the choruses to notice how slyly the band makes a classic sound fresh again...

this is a couple of nice remixes of the cool smoke & mirrors track of marc almond and starcluster (taken from the aube 03). marc almond needs no introduction... after working with many great producers he teamed up with roland faber (s express and many other projects) and kai ludeling (divider) for some nu school high energy disco. this is a track that brings up the best memories of the pet shop boys, new order and ofcourse soft cell. this is one big anthem for the gay clubs, nu disco aficionados and brittish soccer hooligans who want to rave on some extremely well produced big sounding dance music! highly limited vinyl edition!!
