ruff cherry comes back after probably too long on midgar, with forest of thorns ep. the record has been in the making since more than a year, but will finally hit the stores in a month. after the well received ritual ep (september 2015) the cork based producer delivers once again messages on behalf of some obscure alien civilizations.

monday off is a new, vinyl only imprint from brooklyn founded by mary yuzovskaya. its ethos is to showcase artists from around the world that explore techno�s hypnotic side, specifically where trippy and dark productions go deep yet dynamic. the label�s inaugural release consists of two spellbinding original tracks from new jersey-based producer chanski, and includes a dance floor burning remix from one of warsaw�s premiere rising artists, michal wolski. each of these three tracks were crafted to mesmerise listeners via their subtle flow, but are powerful and propulsive enough to make them dance!

restive plaggona is the music project of the corfu-based artist dimitris doukas �also producing under matriarchy roots, leftina osha and plaggona-. after releasing a series of cassettes in different labels along 2016 and 2017 �including his own several minor promises- �leaving the body� arrives as an electronic composition of beats and synthesizer bodies disguised as a sense of provocation and mystery. each of the seven pieces offers more than a smattering of interesting textures separated by spans of great decline, but a master class of permutations in-between accompanying sounds, stretching rhythms and viscera-and- violence noises. driven by a deeply expressive narrative, restive plaggona makes a strong statement about his post-industrial vision adding technoid inclinations in a delightful dystopian world.

the aristocrats were originally from bridgeport, connecticut, but came to philadelphia in 1973 where they recorded five tracks with bobbi eli at sigma sound studios. only one single was released, the philly classic �let�s get together now� on warner brothers records. original pressings can fetch up to £150. the expansion pressing here is extra special as the �b� side �loving you is mellow� has never previously been released on 7� or vinyl. it is in fact the original version of a song later made famous by major harris but in it�s own right an exceptional piece of philly magic.

sometimes you have to put out a recdord for yourself. i first heard the east of underground lp from malcom catto in the jazzman records office in around 2000, after a couple of years i managed to pick one up for $100 from a soundtrack dealer who did not know what he had. now there is a few bangers on the lp but i have always thought is was the ballads that deserve the shine, so after a chat with egon at now-again i managed to sort out putting my two favorites on 45 for that end of the night slowy. hopeflly a few of you will enjoy this one also.

restless mashaits hailing from geneva are based around the core of jil and stuf. they released a sizeable amount of new roots classics throughout the 90s and 00�s. recently becoming active again, they are best remembered for the sessions they recorded at kingston, jamaica in the mid/late 90s with legendary musicians such as vin gordon, deadly headly and dizzy moore. the original releases have been since long deleted, but some are now unearthed thanks to partial records. * lion� from 1996, features the legendary jamaican percussionist scully simms (who recently passed away) and was in every box of all serious roots selectors back then. now long deleted, this will fill in the gap for the many collectors who have this on their wants lists. dub lion� is a different dub version to the one previously released in 1996.

a strange confluence of sound that sounds part krautrock synth label brain records, part hyperdub. techno haze and synth wormholes with spectacular sound design that has banged at berghain and soundtracked winter night drives. greenspan is known mainly for his work with junior boys and jessy lanza and taraval is a longtime touring member of caribou, but both have released several 12� and eps of electronic exploration over the past few years. inspired by synthesizer minimalists like jd emmanuel, cluster and john carpenter, the two attempted to create a type of dance music with hardware that was indebted to their influences but did not feel intrinsically retrogressive. the idea was to make a type of raw synthesizer and drum machine music that could be listened to beside the hypermodern techno of pearson sound or actress. the cover art is a tribute to a mysterious mural that looms over the hamilton ontario area where the album was recorded. each of the five tracks on the ep were edited down from much longer recording jams which were done with hardware sequencers in real time. the recording was done completely off the floor with no overdubs or added material after the fact.

d marc cantu is a don when it comes to warm, rich synth-laden house and techno, with a sprinkling of electro sprinkled over his approach for good measure. now he comes to altered moods with an album that finds him in a particularly mellow mood, not least on sultry opener -always on my mind-. there s space for experimentation, as the offbeat snare patter of -blanket statement- demonstrates, but by and large this is all about undulating house delights. -mozaic- is a particular highlight with its captivating synth design and dreamy demeanour, while -steamfunk- revels in skippy broken beats that flirt with twinkling leads and lashings of delayed bass. plenty varied but consistent in tone, this is a damn fine album from a seasoned pro.

ian blevins has been busy making a name for himself on esp institute and futureboogie, but now he comes to not an animal with a slightly different approach that still speaks to the skills the upstart producer has in his sonic arsenal. -the birds- is a focused, steady-tracking cut for the deeper end of the night, but there s some serious weight in those drums and the heavily processed vocal snippets pack plenty of malaise. man power then step up with a -tropical bastard- remix of the original, cracking the curtains to allow a little light into the mix but stopping short of over-cooking the mood. -locate yourself- on the flip finds blevins in tracky techno mode, and it turns out it s a style he can nail just as easily as the more organic tones he s known for.

in 1984 krootchey released his debut single qu est c qu il a (d plus que moi ce nÚgro la?) on disco label casablanca records. subsequently the single was re-released the same year but sung in english as whatazzy

helena hauff s label continues to subvert all expectations by celebrating the truly underground and ignoring all expectations to provide obvious club material in line with her dj sets. instead we get treated to blood sport, a daring post punk band with a whiff of the pop group in their frenzied, messy style and plenty of sonic trickery occurring in between the intricate playing. -harsh realm- has the textural finish of earliest cabaret voltaire, but with a little more deft playing from the intensely talented players. -boiled in dust- meanwhile has a distinctly afrobeat-meets-industrial spirit that makes for striking, original material that should appeal to lovers of the truly alternative side of british music culture.

hamid s h+ (hpls) label continues to plough a furrow into the freakiest corners of the minimal scene, keeping the spirit of labels like telegraph and minibar alive with off-kilter beats, freaky sampling and wayward synth work from lesser known operators. g76 is up on the a side with the wonky wonders of -father-, packing some seriously squelchy monosynth bass and plenty of beat trickery to wriggle under the skin of the most deviant dancers. h+dk (hamid and denis kaznacheev) tackle the b-side with -tachtagol connection-, keeping the drums as slender as possible and using a sweet but subtle pad as the focus of the track. it s a simple approach, but utterly effective.

italys electrorites, holds a promising status among techno-heads. having released with the likes of decoy records, afu limited & morforecs - and simultaneously running his labels: nightmare factory records, shout records, he now brings forth his latest project, archives vol.1 with his new label structures records. technological/ computer-esk sound semantics make up the infrastructure of archives vol.1. the application of effects, whether itÆs arpeggiated midis or filter distortion, adds a driving personality to each production - with the potential to not only mesmerise, but trigger primitive urges among lovers of the genre. accentuation of coarse factors result in a full bodied synth lead that navigates the bulk of 001. octave separations anticipate drama and leave mood to the imagination. whether the track is experienced as dark or uplifting, itÆs sure to accelerate the energy of any early hour endeavor. dextral maneuvers within the detuned arpeggio emphasise an aphotic hysteria within 002. punctuated by a throbbing kick, dark landscapes of industrial chaos are brought to mind. classic layer exploitation is evident within the last production, 003. the automation of fades has been enforced in a way that teases the listener, intrinsic to the classic techno anthem.

møzakia broke down the door for no bad days with their first release, and it is with great delight that he returns to kickstart the new sister label - no bad edits. the name has changed, but the ear for colourful and supremely dreamy tunes hasn�t. these impressive tunes are not your standard cut �n paste extensions.
using motifs from a long-forgotten 80s new age cassette, møzakia shoots for a mellow paradise with three cuts that variously evoke finis africae�s 4th world exotica, contemporary house jams, and even the rainbow road level on mario kart 64. long may the love-in continue!

topping off another slow year at assistance hq, mr assister channels some slightly darker shades for the second release on beam, aimed squarely in the vague direction of the dance floor. in masonic forest , a rabble of delirious bongos get blown off course, trudging endlessly through the tangled grounds of the grand lodge. down below on jordan , drums pound incessantly and chants echo from the murky distance, valiant but ultimately inert on their futile march to nowhere.

danish composer the swan and the lake is at it again with his trademark widescreen soundscapes wrapped around eight new tracks of exquisite scandinavian balearica. with the release of his first album -moments- last year on copenhagen�s music for dreams, we were introduced to a unique artistic vision. with one foot in the ambient chill out spectrum and the other in everything from classical avantgarde, idm and jazz, the music of emil svane breum under his alias the swan and the lake is both very accessible yet complex. on his new album -clouds- we see him expand on those same ideas and with seemingly simple means achieve extraordinary strong emotions. opening side a, the jazzy intro of -fresh food- leads us into a sublime piece of hazy ambient groover that could easily be mistaken for a lost 80s production from japan. -clouds over Østerbro- keeps things playfully cool and adds elements of scat singing and xylophones, layered over breum�s shimmering bright chords. while the title suggests we are still on danish soil, this feels like a five minute vacation to a tropical paradise. guitarist johan liepstack makes a guest appearance on -summer in december- which comes off as an understated anthem that could break out into euphoria at any second, but manages to stay in a sombre state all the way through. on the track -plastic pacific ocean remake- we are visited once more by airy vangelis-like vocals which assume the role of a nurturing angel, guiding us to a comforting state of relaxation and healing, as breum lays down an overwhelmingly beautiful synth serenade with chords that hit you right at the core of your most vulnerable state. flip over for the mallorca inspired track -port d andratx- which comes in two versions - part 1 (sun) shines like a perfect escape into that cafe del mar/ hostal la torre sunset while the more deep and melancholic part 2 is aptly named rain. the gentle trickling of -waterfalls- sees breum mimic the eternal cycle of water, creating an organic and ethereal composition that stretches out seemingly without beginning or end. and finally on -heaven�s voice- we see breum in his most epic and emotional mood, as he steers us through a slow explosive force of cinematic sounds. it all ends with a heartfelt spoken word contribution by guest vocalist neonbi.

inmotion music ltd brings back two dynamic artists marco effe and james mile. both marco and james have been firmly cementing themselves in the techno and house music scene for several years while gaining well wide support from dj�s across the globe.. the mehringdamm ep consists of 3 original tracks and a remix by spain�s eduardo de callle.the first track, mehringdamm is a classic rhythmic-driven belter that packs a hefty punch. the jacking 909 drums and lush synth keep the tension through out.the b-side is slightly more experimental but has expertly captured the eduardo de calle.vibe. james miles ends the ep with a jacking 909 work out named stomp.

tendts are two brothers that make -music that you can da nce to, or not-. it seems an odd phrase, but aptly explains the duality of the greek duo. the compositions of christos and fotis papadakis are both emotive and movement inducing, even though they are written and structured with disparate elements that refuse to fall into obvious patterns. they consist of palpitating beats, imaginative textures, seductive melodies and sporadic bursts of treated vocals. it s everywhere is a concept ep soundtracking tendts intergalatic encounter with the pleiadians (dimension traversing nordic aliens to the unenlightened ) at the far edge of the universe. upon their journey home they brought with them not only costumes, masks and relics of extraterrestrial civilizations, they brought with them the spirits of two great celestial beings, momongo and floflolo. fotis and christos were the reincarnation of these two and the main purpose of their return was to enlighten the people of earth about the beginning of the era of the cosmic swimmer.

with bjoern torske, skateboard, telephones and last not least the sex tags label all hailing from bergen, the city s not been exactly short on world leading �d.i.s.c.o� , but it s geir hermansen aka velferd that recently cought our ear with his keys. in �the city that drowned� it s unlikely only ever so wet, there s bliss, sun, warmth, heat - all painted bright with skyrocketing masterful synths over very neat and dry bass. great! laid back and somehow dreamy the whole thing catches you by the ear and lingers on but then there s so much dedicated kick and an almost extatic groove in each track - irresistable string hooks made in heaven! �never� and �through the valley� add on to where the title song just left and this give the 3 track ep so much perfectly arranged strength� bergen might well have given birth to another disco standard-bearer.

3 of shadow child�s connected collaboration album tracks get a makeover from rimbaudian, mj cole and bodhi. rising talent rimbaudian reworks the only solo track from the project, steak fingers, and takes the original bumping stripped back groove on a more melodic journey with its stunning arpeggios and new string parts. the backbone of the original remains but be prepared to take a trip to a new stratosphere, with his stripped version which is included too. bodhi step up next to remix gacid, twisting and turning the original acid patterns and grooves to make a special rework that gives a nod to early detroit with new drum programming and pads. the welsh duo bring the heat. mj cole delivers what must be one of his finest remixes. um the collaboration with bodhi, already offers a trip that flirts with jungle, lo-fi and the hypnotic but mj cole brings his signature vibe to the table with new keys, groove and provides something that feels as if it belongs in the realms of his seminal hit sincere.

oraculo records looks to the past in very few occasions and monomen deserves to be one of the exceptions. the norvegian band momonen released back in 2007 one of the best electronic post-punk albums of the beginning of xxi centurty on trust me records, not only for the music quality but because all the band members had only 19 years old at the time. suddenly the band gets dissolved after only 1 ep and 1 album. now, 10 years later, oraculo records proudly recovers the best tracks of their album (+1 one of the previous ep) on a record that will be very searched and valued. all tracks mastered and remastered specially for vinyl by eric van wonterghem at prodam studio (berlin).

minimal signals� is the most succesful and valued v.a. serie of the label to date and is here again but this time released on dark men records to make it more affordable. this chapter is another radiography of the most relevant and surprising actual minimal projects out there, including tracks by i tpame i tvrame, wicked crafts, adam tristar, we are not brothers and ferdinand cärclash. all tracks has been remastered by eric van wonterghem at prodam studio (berlin).

before boogie funk had a resurgence in 2012, ruckazoid was dropping rare funk albums in 2004. his demos were floating around la, but it wasn�t until 2009 that breakbot remixed ruckazoid�s original �life�s fantasy�, which was later released in 2011 as an original track titled �fantasy� on ed banger records. fantasy became a breakout hit scoring a #1 single on itunes. in 2013 when daft punk released �get lucky� featuring pharrell, funk was officially back in the mainstream. those in the know knew breakbot & ruckazoid helped rekindle the funk flame worldwide. after all, the label ed banger is headed by busy p, and busy p managed daft punk. suprinsingly, ruckazoid did not tour with breakbot, opting to stay in the studio to record more albums. amazing lover being one of these albums, with love game becoming the lead track.

after the success of closer to freedom in 2014, chicago legend dj jes returns to tardis records with the between the lines ep, featuring two lost tracks from his personal archives and a brand new offering. opener æno foolingÆ is reduced to the bare essentials until an elegant snatch of piano and spoken word sample break it down further, when the track kicks back in with a vengeance everyone in the room will know all about it, but it remains subtle enough to work the day after as well. on the flip, æbetween the linesÆ is tougher and dubbier and will do some serious peak-time damage, whilst new track lost is a cut-up banger for the floor and a perfect dj tool. all tracks have been meticulously edited and rearranged by label owners eli verveine and oscar schubaq in order to extend the grooves and maximise dance floor impact.

andi and david first met in a forest beside a psychedelic castle in the wild west of scotland and soon bonded over a love of wrong speeders, balearic gems hidden in plain sight and the odder side of the dancefloor before djing together just moments after andi was unraveled from a burning tarpaulin. a firm friendship and fun partnership was born. hailing from mancunia but for sometime an export to the usa, andi, for many years was one of the great things about new york city. a charming, low-key individual, a great, great dj and a graceful presence in the land of the overhyped and ego driven. andi held down the musical supervision of rock star games and was responsible for a lot of great music getting out to the gaming masses. he was a vital member of body and soul for the best part of 15 years, delivering infamous warm up sets for danny krivit, joaquin joe claussell and françois k, pedigree vibes... david, a music lover since birth, a record collector for more than quarter of a century and a reputation for being the first on the floor at any party. db s transition from dancer to dj didn t take too long and his selections of rare disco, oddball gems and panglobal pandemonium have seen him play back rooms, basements, festivals and freakouts throughout the land, whether running his own parties in glasgow or playing further afield alongside the likes of young marco, jayda g and moodymann.

a few years ago, melodies family members floating points and dj red greg got their hands on a couple of original 70s obscurities. while these standout records shone brightly in their own right, the two djs saw the potential to create their own edits behind the scenes, finely attuning the original versions to modern-day dancefloor standards. of these new recordings, they cut only five copies for themselves and a few dj friends of theirs. today, melodies international is very proud to bring you mel006 and mel007. fully licensed, lovingly mastered to the highest possible standards and carefully edited to dial up that dancefloor enjoyment, these two æyouÆre a melodyÆ classics werenÆt originally meant to get official releases. but due to popular request, they are now available to play and share in very special moments at parties around the world. mel6 arrives as a 7-inch, with the original version and the edit on the flip. first released in 1979 as a three-minute up-tempo library recording, ôdisco baby-, one of 10 tracks off a record available to license for film, radio, television and other media, held some hidden magic that would only get uncovered almost four decades later. informed by years of combined dancefloor experience, floating points and red greg have slightly tweaked the original material, realising that played in the right context, it can become a true disco anthem.

imagine apollo 13 mission commanded by mika vainio and erp and you might get an idea of the intergalactic atmospherics crawling from the new phi chapter. slovenian minimalism afficionado evano returns to phi with an icy pulse that starts the electro romanticism on the first track and soon turns to hypnotic four to the floor pace. atonal minimalism intensifies with the last two tracks but manages to make the vacuum of music space sound incredibly human.

new record on help recordings by the arhus quartet maizena. this one is one of those more relaxing and introvert records we put out to stress the fact that life is not always about dancing. pretty sounds and not too many unpleasant or scary moments. most of the music is in the vain of their earlier work on no hands, regelbau and help, a rhythmical ambient music. recorded in the isolated haelge studios surrounded by nothing but the sea and the mols mountains.

having remixed depeche mode and dj hell as well as releasing a new fixmer/mccarthy single with douglas mccarthy (of nitzer ebb), 2017 has already proven to be a productive year for terence fixmer. with the new force ep, the berghain resident follows up on 2016 s beneath the skin ep (o-ton 97), offering four stylistically different but congenial techno scenarios for club use. the record s eponymous track on a1 doesn t think twice: the initial signal horn starts as sudden as the staggered kick drum rhythm, reoccurring throughout the cut s 6-minute playtime while sustained and oppressive screams from a synth, extra multifaceted ebm percussion and synth drones add to the overall sombre atmosphere of ôforceö. the musical vibe distinctly changes with ôsidewalkö which puts more focus on synth melodies û like its predecessor a techno cut per se, but with a stronger accent on hypnotic motifs. on b1 ômelting planetsö emphasises the kick: clocking in slightly slower than the other three tracks û at 122 bpm û the bass drum here sounds extra vivid, ever-present and spot-on, just as if terence was playing the drum kit sitting right next to you. with additional percussion and swirling melodies ômelting planetsö is a lulling, mesmerizing meditation in dub techno. ôstriking patternsö on b2 links to the best moments of force ep s a-side, combining bone-dry bass drum hits and distinctive brazen, banging noises, pulsing synths pads and sizzling surface sounds.
