hirofumi goto aka rondenion made his debut releases on still music back in 2005. shortly after, he released a streak of detroit infused house 12 on rushhour, aesthetic audio and more to great critical acclaim. a dj and producer born in japan. he began working as a recording artist in the late 90s under the name hirofumi goto, and released his global debut, >ameria ep<. it drew attention for its dark beats, unusual for a japanese artist, and was played by top djs like derrik may. he changed his name to rondenion to show respect to chicago and detroit, and began working on an overseas release. ultimately, his love bound ep was released by major labels such as >rush hour< and became a big hit. it reached the top on the rushhourstore sales chart, and became popular in europe. in 2012 he formed >ragrange symphony< with his old friends no milk and kez ym, and he is currently working on a number of projects for his own record label, >ragrange records<.after being approached by roundabout sounds for a remix, discussions shortly after were directed towards a plan for releasing rondenions debut album on both vinyl (roundabout sounds) and digital (plug research). the result is the luster grand hotel debut album, ready to drop in september 2013. luster grand hotel is the most accomplished project from rondenion, an absolute blend of detroit and chicago house, reminiscent of the music from moodymann, theo parrish and rick wilhite. a must have for any real house music fans.

ghostek is a russian garage and techno producer currently residing in moscow. he has previously released vinyl on other heights and shiprec, and has collaborated with rooflight as ghostlight, releasing a 12 inch on styrax. a prolific producer, his tracks have created a substantial online fan base, with some of his productions reaching tens of thousands of plays. he runs the digital label squared harmony. the *no way out ep* is composed of four tracks, two very garage leaning, two more towards techno, all reminiscent of londons music scene, despite the producers russian location. the dark atmosphere of the music is reflected in the artwork and track names across the release. sub squared is a new label, a sub-label of project squared which has a back catalogue including tracks by kowton, and, asusu and tom dicicco. the aim of this new label is to represent the taste of one of the two founders of project squared.

jessy lanza s debut album *pull my hair back*, co-written and co-produced with jeremy greenspan from junior boys, is a 2013 flagship for what electronic pop could sound like, stripped of bloated, behaviourist impulses that treat listeners like lab rats. it is graceful and erotic without the gratuitous close ups, icey and sensual, sweet without rotting your teeth, emotional but with enough blue glow to pull your heart strings. jessys voice flutters through the synths seductively, insistent without the over-singing and grating choruses that plague so much contemporary pop. jessy lanza has a background as a singer and skilled piano scholar, and the duo share a mutual love of collecting the old hardware synths and drum machines that grace this collection of songs. transecting r&b, house, disco and 80s studio rock, the production is immaculate, reminiscent of early junior boys, treading that fine line between cold futurism and the r&b that jessy and jeremy are infatuated with.

twd or the wild division records a new techno label based from terrassa (bcn) founded trough the collaboration between spear, dustertraum and miki craven. the label aims to follow a dark moody side of techno music, with simple structures and analog sounds reminiscent the old mid 90s productions. this label is the result of the work of the last three years between this three artists. the label will count with more international artists who will take part with the label signing and remixing further references.

nick lapiens debut release as metropolis garnered little attention when it materialized last year. a skeptical yet dedicated network of underground heads built up a subterranean buzz that has yet to spread into the daylight. that initial transmission was thick with the raw analogue flavors that have become ever-present in dance floor fare recently—but his is a sound that is dedicated to the emotive, narrative aspects of electronic music rather than simple fetishization or passing curiosity in the days of yore. this, his second release as metropolis, shows a more focused and patient hand at work. the titular track on the a side is a deep, psychedelic groover. melodies, textures and sequences undulate and intertwine within a lightless atmosphere guided by lapien with optimum restraint. equally pensive and gorgeous, the flood serves as a machine’s beat-less foil on the reverse. made up of little more than feedback and two slow, echo laden arpeggiated sequences, this is reminiscent of jean michel jarre’s more sinister moments: a brilliant paradox of economy and indulgence. expect to hear more from lapien here at sequencias. he has many more dark corners left unexplored.

lokee musiks sophomore release features newcomer afriqua. a 21 year old from virginia, usa and currently based in berlin. this fledgling producer and student of the royal academy of music sparked interest with lokee when they met at one of their famous after hours in london. the title track here is melt & features broken groove with afriquas minimal perspective. electric pulse stabs are at the heart of this rhythm and drive it with a much appreciated space. vocals from sorcha richardson adds an eerie anthemic touch reminiscent of somewhere between the cocteau twins & fever ray

hot on the heels of ornate musics last release featuring the bumping house business of digs, the imprint set their sights on welsh producer leif, who has been turning heads with his masterful deep house for labels like fear of flying and fina since 2003. kicking off with *circumstance 4*, whose smooth organ refrain drifts over a lightly rolling groove, the vibe switches up with *every cloud*, whose gentle jazz-inspired piano and abstract, dubbed out soundscape is strongly reminiscent of floating points more freeform productions. however, it is *each day made new* that provides the eps most surprising moment, an andres style hip-hop track with a cut-up, sunshine drenched quality calling recloose to mind.

boomchik is back with a 2nd release. si murray, one half of deep space orchestra, strikes out on his own with his other worlds project. solid basses and rattling percussion fuel an e.p. that gurgles with bright detroitesque finesse and variety that shifts between large almost basic channel feelings, to glitteringly precise house music. a five track release, full of floating pads and spacious reverbs take you directly to other worlds as lush strings and tight percussion patterns do exactly what they intend and trip you back to memories of warehouse days. murrays extremely tight production and musicality give this an edge that though reminiscent of the tones and feel of days gone by, has its feet firmly planted in the here and now.

in the 9th release of greece s echovolt, simoncino meets the legendary vocalist julian jonah! the result is a shimmering house track full of emotions, reminiscent of larry heard, ten city or even electribe 101. the dub mix of where did you go pitches all of the track s elements into a different level - merely a weapon in the hands of the dj.

the first release on project squared in a year, *make your mess* is a three track ep by melbournes craig mcwhinney. craig has been making music for years and releasing since the late 2000s on melbourne labels such as pinksilver, melbourne deepcast and his own haul music, also on labels based further afield such as brendon moellers steadfast and speedy js electric deluxe. craigs music is techno, but it isnt preoccupied with the 4/4, employing broken, swung and rolling drum patterns. his tracks often include melodic and harmonic elements and effects reminiscent of dub techno but without conforming to the pastiche template of the sub-genre. the make your mess ep is composed of the core title track and two additional tracks that arose as interpretations and variations on the initial production: *provocation is an excuse* is more furious and loud, *disengage* is more restrained. all three are around 125 bpm and were produced in the space of a month between september and october 2012.

foolish felix dickinsons superb cynic label land a repress of this much sought after uk acid classic! this release is finally getting a very limited re-press. dusk till dawn is an old school acid house slammer reminiscent of tracks like mike dunns *let it be house* and armandos *151*. 808 drums and double 303 acid lines combined with pitched down vocals. played by everyone from larry heard to mark archer. liquid soul drops is a more modern weirdo slow-mo acid jam as championed by andy weatherall.

as the rumors tell, this obscure piece of music was arranged by three acquaintances, who, by mere coincidence, formed a spontaneous, poly-toxic think tank one marvellous sunday morning, celebrating the beauty of old house music, while at the same time mocking the somehow cheap and predictable functionality of the four to the floor sound design. to honor the inspirational value of situations like these, the decision was made to share the result with a bigger audience. as a meta text, the lyrics form a tongue in cheek comment on nostalgic good old days aesthetics, and are simultaneously, and quite paradoxically, reminiscent of the utopian and transgressive vision of early house and techno music. if there is anything that we can retrieve from this vision today, it is the encouragement to create funny, pleasant and playful situations for ourselves and the like-minded, escaping the seriousness and boredom of the professionalized party and music business. and this is exactly the spirit, which is materialized on this piece of wax.

for signal life #03, we teamed up two young vigorous south londoners: mr. louis carnell, known by his moniker visionist, and mr. marco giuliani, who works under the alias last japan. >control this< by visionist combines his background in south london grime with his signature drum machine template and lo-fi vocal excerpts into a coherent mesh. our favourite visionist track to date! when we first heard >storm trooper< by last japan, it was the tension we got caught up in. the song is focused with a clear direction, uncommon in most young talent, armed with a driving snare-fill rhythm reminiscent of south rap and all that exiting stuff in the 160 bpm. i believe murky is the correct term. we predict interesting things for mr. giuliani.

wonder & amazement is a record ive had in various forms and incarnations from ex chicken lips members steve kotey & andy meecham for about a year now – a song that immediately grabbed me from the very first moment i heard it. reminiscent of days gone by mixed with a touch of the new - a song that contains a mixture of both the old classic and the new classic. ive been championing it for a while now either in sets or charts, even including it on a recent compilation i did. a record that we are proud to be able to use as a soundtrack to this new era of classic.
