the shanklin sessions came out of the shanklin road studio that andy sims shared with one of his partners from soft rocks, bobby coulman. acid jan started its life as a jan hammer edit that andy was doing for one of soft rocks disco powerplay releases. there were a few parts that never made the final cut, but were too good to leave, so andy got friend jaime read in to jam with the left over bits, and from that acid jan was born (none of the jans original parts made it to this finished re-incarnation). acid jan found it s way onto cynic label boss felixs usb and subsequently was played at every festival/club that felix played for about a year. when andy heard felix playing it at alfresco festival in 2016, they decided to release it on cynic. in search of a b side for the release, andy dug out the other dat s from the session acid jan was recorded at, and found sitars over shanklin, a suitably oddball track to grace the other side. a little piece of chicago via india recorded in brighton.

george levings of commix (metalheadz) and endian (secretsundaze) joins cynic with a mesmerising 9 minute long live mix of a few simple elements. felix joins george on the flip with a jam reminiscent of old boogie in the vein of maze, but with a creeping sinister undertone.

argentinean musician and producer fernando pulichino joins the cynic fray and brings with him a storied reputation that includes a multitude of releases as fernando for the likes of international feel, leng, internasjonal, redux, under the shade, nang, and bearfunk. in addition to his solo work, pulichino has been an integral cog in the 2020 soundsystem, a live act headed by ralph lawson that have been known to close out proceedings at sonar. the stereo drive 12 inch is a fine example of fernandos style, all clean production values with subtle hints of proto house and balearica respectively running through the title cut and b sider -sunset strip-. another killer 12 inch from felix dickinson s revitalised cynic label.

foolish felix dickinsons superb cynic label land a repress of this much sought after uk acid classic! this release is finally getting a very limited re-press. dusk till dawn is an old school acid house slammer reminiscent of tracks like mike dunns *let it be house* and armandos *151*. 808 drums and double 303 acid lines combined with pitched down vocals. played by everyone from larry heard to mark archer. liquid soul drops is a more modern weirdo slow-mo acid jam as championed by andy weatherall.

foolish felix dickinsons superb cynic label with another hot one! cynics latest release features another killer track from l.h.a.s. inc. (jamie read and felix dickinson). analogue synths and vintage drum machines rock along with an infectious old school style reminiscent of the early sounds coming from chicago and new york in the late 80s early 90s. think clubhouse meets nu groove. on the b side phoreski (felixs fellow resident at londons bad passion) delivers a remix that takes the track to another level, darker haunting synths and a robo vocal asking: do you like the way you feel, will you dance with me?

mysterious newcomer jamie blanco displays a clear skill in assembling the kind of raw, atmospheric late 80’s chicago house so close to our hearts - the kind of late night jams which can just as easily roll in and out of string drenched disco cuts as they can moments of strobe-lit intensity. beautifully executed, and another sureshot from cynic!

cynic returns with a great 12inch of disco tastic madness. the grooves are loose, the riffs low slung and the beats punchy. just the kind of stuff we re used to hear from the cynic stable. proper bomb. this e.p features three hot tracks in a tribute to the sundance kid, the a side the sundance kid, comes complete with galloping horses, rattlesnakes and gunshots this track is the wild west meets the mirror ball. the first track on the b side westbound 23, is named after the first train robbery that the sundance kid committed in his early years before he joined the wild bunch, the blaze of glory that finishes the e.p. is a reference to the well documented last stand, where butch cassidy and the sundance kid were surrounded by the bolivian army
