mr. k returns to the 12inch format for the latest in his series of edits for most excellent unlimited, making the most of the long-playing wax with two contrasting cuts. first up is ike strongs boogie land, an obscure side that was originally released in 1981 and saw plenty of action at the paradise garage. krivit s edit is inspired by larry levan s technique in running the tune, focusing as larry did on the late-song breakdown before dropping into a stripped-down rendition of the undulating main groove, a boogie bomb to be sure! don t let the name fool you the enigmatic boogie man orchestra, stars of the flip side, are all about disco. the instrumental lady, lady, lady first appeared in dj sets in the summer of 75, the prime breakout year for disco, making its way from chicago all the way to clubs on both coasts despite having no national distribution. pre-dating the introduction of the 12-inch single, the song never saw release on the larger format, until now. krivit s edit takes advantage of the extended playing time by easing into the philly-style orchestral groove and letting it breath for a dramatic, building dancefloor moment.

... one day he found a great, reddish slab of stone on the side of the road. it shone. could he transfer the very same color onto himself? he searched and found a rough surface which he used to scrub the stone hunk until there was a pile of crimson powder. mixing it with water, he coloured his body with the shinning red. standing there painted, he began to sing. as he sang, the stone slab on which he stood opened and swallowed him up. even today, on passing this stone, they say one can still hear the song of the enchanted. from below the surface of amsterdam s underground, depth over distance will release its first ep of spaced out grooves conjured by eversines. four jams covering the spectrum of deep electronic music ranging from slow building anthems (pyramids) and acid fuelled dubs (transition portal and vultures) to the celestial closing pads of the other side signifying the first stop on this journey.

side b is the dark side for sure. this time it&#700,,,,,,,,,,s only kozo and dan andrei (ak41) and their rendering is a hypnotic 12 minute long piece layered with a multitude of sounds ranging from the crickets and jungle birds to the more electronic bubbly and metallic tones. it&#700,,,,,,,,,,s named after paul who had already left the building when this was recorded.

after releasing their first two releases on one disc, the third release on amsterdam imprint working titles is a release on its own. label founders scott franka & kaap are behind the label s third release that features two epic tracks from the dutch pair and again finds them exploring new and exciting techno territory with their lively machine jams.
first track poise i is a deep and dubbed out techno track with deft synths slowly shapeshifting and bringing sombreness to the quickened groove. it�s late night music to zone you out with sparse but rich detailing to keep your mind occupied and it gets ever-busier over the course of thirteen enthralling minutes. then poise ii is a 16 minute masterpiece that is watery and dubby. it has undulating synth currents and increasingly textured snares. building to a peak then pulling back, with occasional freaky vocal sounds and sci-fi motifs, it is a truly cinematic piece that closes out an ambitious ep.

for the 4th release from our beloved ourselves they ve once again invited a group of friends to serve us up a healthy dose of tasty house and disco. this time, originaltracks from luvless, snacks, siggatunez und jan ketel are on the menu. &#8203,,,, for starters we have luvless from leipzig whose prepared a floor stomper with a side of heavy drums paired with a warm chords- and stringsounds and a groovy bassline...completely love. the berlin duo snacks appear for the first time on ourselves with their track sisters . a delicious disco snack that sounds like an effortless kitchen jam with an extremely funky aftertaste - you re tastebuds will be dancing. hand played bass sprinkled over percussion, guitar licks and building up synths....hopefully you like your snacks authentic...they muste be true musicians...they are!! the one love disco & funk and the other jazz...so does siggatunez. he cuts us up a vibraphonline and sends it on the chase with a chord so delectably deep that not even the side of fat drums can keep up with the bounce and speed it creates but finally gets it and breaks down the club. jan ketel has prepared a desert that at first, tastes like a mere groovy tool but it soon opens up into something bigger and more hectic. it s like you gotta check in at charles de gaulle while in anothher moment the unmistakable flavour of a lush warm rhodes appears...a timeless flavour, and one that you ll never forget.

to make it true and organic was the main purpose when german producer filou started his work for nova 118 ep. both original tracks, radon and scandium represent the path of techno with house influences. the tracks are rich in details and short fills which makes this a truly outstanding record. as this isn�t enough filou presents two versions of -radon- and -scandium- demonstrating where techno and house can take you. as the original concentrates on a percussive rhythm, samuel l. session�s version is arranged more classically -- a deep chord, a clear beat, accentuated hi-hats and claps. the -justin berkovi remix- carefully-placed sounds building the track into a dynamic and hypnotic whole. the percussiveness here is more profound, shaping the track in a completely different way. already massive plays by a bunch of dj-s incl. villalobos.

as a contrasting follow-up to our first single from rooteo & mahura�s metta album, the second single on made in green records keeps the format intact with entirely different results. deadbeat�s remix on part one was both respectful and subtly transformative, on part two, new york�s upcoming max mcferren, whose busy 2015 included eps on ultimate hits, allergy season, and 1080p, brings us a startling reinterpretation of album closer harmal very much in keeping with the vein of raw, aggressive house coming from brooklyn since that scene�s resurgence. the original version of harmal finishes the album in fine style, blending tablas, celestial electronics, and short melodica phrases that gradually swell with layers of vocal samples and orchestal pads before reaching a climax and slowly dying away in gradually receding layers of ambient electronics. mcferren�s remix leads off with only a bare framework of techno percussion. the entry of a sampled section of melody from the original signals a rapid transition to more abrasive territory, with sheets of metallic noise slashing through the high end, short vocal syllables stuttering, and an insistent bass pulse building up and breaking down with at least one element constantly in motion.

sublime sonic vibrations emanate from �down under�, our man subjoi cuts his teeth on heart to heart�s first departure from the great white north. expertly massaged with dusty lo fi grooves and steeped in rnb like d�angelo�s sheets, this one is filled with heat. these 4 range from catching eyes across the club to full body explorations. let it be known, subjoi is in the building.

marquis hawkes marks his fifth release for aus with another classy 2 tracker titled, æthe phoenixÆ (part 1 and part 2). the phoenix follows up summer hit æthe basement is burningÆ which saw midland, the black madonna and gerd janson all supporting at festivals worldwide. the phoenix is two takes on one concept. part one takes the disco and house amalgam which marquis has developed in recent times to itÆs logical conclusion, perfectly walking the tightrope between joyous abandon and classy depth, and giving djs the perfect weapon for all floors, from sweaty basements right the way through to much bigger dancefloors. part two then flips the program with the same raw materials and sets up the perfect shot, directed at a big room house/techno crossover, building on the foundations laid by the detroit techno originators by infusing contemporary production values and a more modern twist. the phoenix is something of a landmark ep for marquis hawkes, once again redefining his sound. we canÆt wait to hear what he does next.

ambient shoegaze duo aris kindt launch the new kingdoms imprint with their second album, swann and odette. picking up where their first record (2015Æs floods) leaves off, swann and odette is an evolutionary leap forward for the duo. the sonic palette is deeper, the grooves more sparse and the melodies are given more room to seep deep within a mix so expansive it feels almost tactile. this is heady, opulent stuff. the album is immaculately produced and cunningly arranged to sidestep easy classification while not sacrificing accessibility and authentic feeling. aris kindt is the collaborative project of gabe hedrick and francis harris (scissor and thread). harris has previously released the albums leland (2012) and minutes of sleep (2014), both of which have been lauded ôfor (their) extensive use of live instruments, a contrasting feature to his work done beforeö (last.fm, 2016). building on this approach, hedrick adds his own sonic signature in effects-laden layers of electric guitar and modular synthesizer. collectively, the album swells and reverberates to create a seamless interplay of synths and instrumentation cast loose from their origins and awash in oceanic delay.

khotin continues with his second release under the waterpark alias. side a goes fully epic with just under 12-min running time. lush pads, bleepy fx and breaks building up to an explosive high pitched acid sequence. the flipside keeps rolling with aquatic grooves, zappy snares, and a drifting piano line. all generously extracted for a bonus ambient version to round off side b.

this record, and the full 2xlp that will follow it, are dedicated to and inspired by events in 2015 & 2016, which saw the spectre of global crisis come knocking at europes doorstep. during this time, more than a million migrants and refugees fled their homes in the middle east, northern africa, sub-saharan africa and other conflict ravaged areas in search of a better life. for many, hopes of a future for themselves and their families lay in continental europe. while the reasons for such displacement, on a scale unseen in almost a century, are many, so are the reasons for europe being seen as the ideal destination. the relative peace and calm of the continent and the prospect of building prosperous lives in western europe was enough to mobilize multitudes to embark on the treacherous journey to europe. one of the most well-trodden paths on this journey was the balkan route, a trail leading through turkey, greece, and the former yugoslavia. this route was not without its dangers, and the dreams of many were dashed by impassible security fences and discordant eu politics, as one by one they were turned away at borders, or worse, forcibly returned to their countries of origin.

europa is the first single that represents the seed of discontent, from which the 2xlp grew. it was recorded during long jam sessions in belgrade as the media spotlight started to dim. the city became the purgatorial destination for a large number of migrants, whose journeys had been cut short and this record reflects the atmosphere of disillusionment and uncertainty about the future, which descended on the serbian capital.

just a few months after its first release, nitsa traxx comes back with a very special 12�. the project started with a file exchange between eduardo de la calle and ferenc. they decided to work each track on their own side using only a few isolated sounds from the other. this way none of the tracks could never be treated as a full original, but proper remixes of tracks that never existed, building an uncanny, almost dreamlike emotion. a side is for ferenc�s �parón largo�, where synthetic strings are omnipresent and time and space unbends, evolving to an anticlimax where an eerie vocal and the longest possible drop are the leading trademark. a never ending and emotional standstill that goes deeper than the mariana trench. eduardo de la calle uses his distinctive signature sound in the b side. �cloaking tech d fly d� is an obsessive yet beautiful track that reminds us of the somewhere in detroit series. this is a mental and heart-warming tribute to the motor city sound that just a producer like eduardo could do. next releases are on the corner already, and we can�t wait to share them with you.

tbd, the decade-old project from doug lee (an-i) and justin van der volgen, is back! known for their set-defining big room monster jams, below sees them on a deep, heavy and very trippy analogue tip. synths wheeze and bubble while a thick syncopated bass and a giant kick drum keep the proceedings firmly locked to the dance floor. on the flip, legendary japanese dj and producer dj kent steps up on remix duty under his the backwoods alias. building off the original, he adds sharp percussion and tastefully refocuses the track, creating a perfect complimentary mix to the a-side.

london duo jynx provide the next chapter to kidnap kid�s birds that fly, an imprint quickly building a slim but effective catalogue.
this two tracker is a true fusion of sound, entangling vibrant ukg percussion, emotive vocals and charmingly quirky production.
altogether it creates something beautiful and unique, echoing the individuality of the label itself.

the first release on kon�s new kontemporary imprint sees the crate diggin selector, producer and remixer extraordinaire reworking george duke�s late 70s jewel �i want you for myself�.
kon�s masterful arrangement highlights the desirous pleas of lead vocalist lynn davis while showcasing the very ahead of its time instrumentation (there are even hints of larry heard to be heard here) of mr. duke�s musical masterpiece. carefully breaking down and building up the arrangement, kon even pulls out previously unheard vocal gems from george duke himself hidden in the original stems giving the listener a glimpse of the studio vibe during its recording. this release also boasts the original version taken directly from the studio masters of the highly sought after 12�. all in all floor stomping disco magic from one of the world�s best remixers further sonically enhanced by boston native caserta on the mix.

j. f. burma is a new analog synth project of jeremy berman, a longtime friend of the bunker who we met via the forums of i-f�s cybernetic broadcasting system internet radio station in the early 2000�s. while living in brooklyn, jeremy spent many hours each week searching for undiscovered gems among the piles of records (and sometimes rat skeletons) at notorious greenpoint crate-digging spot the thing. inspired and educated by the music he was finding, he purchased his first modular and started building synthesizers and modules in spite of his lack of training in electrical engineering. currently, about half of his current eurorack rig has been diy�ed via trial and error.

chico buarque construcao revisited by l_cio is a beautiful debut project part of a doc series of releases combining classic brazilian names with doc artists and producers. l_cio (laercio schwantes) the man with the transverse flute known for some of the freshest and unique tracks coming out from brazil is behind this gemstone. increasingly building a legacy of fans following his live performances and recent releases on doc records (vazio, traffic, people talk, schwantes), this man is a non-stoppable 30 hours machine gun. on this long awaited 2-track limited edition vinyl release, l_cio and gui boratto kept the roots of this classic track construcao. however they added all the proper elements of a techno dance floor knockout. by inserting malicious baselines, flutes and strings they generated aggressive melodies while keeping all characteristics of this epic song. voted as the greatest brazilian song by rolling stones magazine, construcao was originaly recorded by chico buarque in 1971 with production by roberto menescal. released during military dictatorship, chico buarque criticizes the way of life of the brazilian workers, comparing them to machines. the song is known for its interchangeable last words, used as if they were pieces of a board game, as said by buarque. generatiions apart, construcao (l_cio & k_ri version) and construcao (l_cio & borattos deconstructed mix) are the first ever authorized remixes in over 45 years. l_cio the latest dance floor brazilian soldier, a menacing builder of beats completes an epic turnnig point by editing and lapidating a classic poetry. with a b side dub version beutifully crafted by label boss gui boratto, this limited edition pearl is finally here for our joy!

doorly s reptile dysfunction continues to prove itself to be one of the most vibrant and singular labels around, this time tapping up legendary producer jaydee for its latest release. jaydee is a dance music pioneer. best know for the seminal plastic dreams - a track that, somewhat terrifyingly for those who remember it the first time around, will be celebrating its 25 th anniversary next year - he has continued to be a leading light in innovative house and techno productions, releasing on r&s and ellum audio in the last few years. here, he teams up with fellow dance music visionary doorly for a searingly brilliant release on the latter s reptile dysfunction imprint. acid pressure ep presents two original cuts from jaydee, with supporting remixed from doorly and trooko. kicking things off, back into acid opens with stunningly heartfelt pads before building to a killer acid line via shimmering percussion and erotically charged vocal snatches. bring the pressure is more direct: a house roller softened by basic channel-esque chords and with added rhythm courtesy of the accompanying ragga chants. on the remix front, doorly flips back into acid into something far more menacing, with fierce synths stabs and rolling drums creating a head down stomper, while trooko chops back into pressure into pieces, crafting a thumping main room house cut from the constituent parts, complete with an epic, piano-led breakdown.

luc van acker is all except an obscure musician. already from his solo records in the early 80�s he has been building a name for himself as a multi-talented musician and performer. when you are in the middle of the night, you�ll see the revolting cocks. the session on this record is from 1981 and thus a very early piece of music in the discography of luc van acker. for this occasion he has performed with live electronics, a violin and various other gadgets and tools. the music must be seen as somewhere in between old style industrial music (thus experimental) and modern classical music. this live performance takes the listener from rhythmic to the sound of the sound. the session has been tranfered from the original tape and is edited and re-mastered to make it available for a new audience. the liner notes have been written by luc van acker himself.
