the second release in no bad days’ sister imprint no bad edits comes from montréal upstart unknown mobile, who first caught our ear with a lovely debut on asl singles club. here, he looks to the 1980s for inspiration, channeling that decade’s confidence and colour with three shimmering reworks. the a-side’s “dream state” matches its namesake, evoking a busy fourth world market scene, with pipes, bells and flutes chiming away in happy harmony.
on the flip, “programmer” is a slab of excitable and effects-slathered fusion funk, as if a computer has sprung to life and begun to dance. the 12” wraps with “valerian slip”, where unknown mobile folds the strands of silk from a free-form windham hill deep cut into a new shape, every bit as smooth as the original but with a nagging groove to underpin it.

felix nisblé is putting out the 3rd release under his blint moniker. continuously searching for those short moments of self-empowerment, which keep popping up and slipping right back through his hands, again and again. b003 tries to capture some of this emotion with two tracks, oscillating heavily between euphoria and delusion.
“ghostworks” on the a-side feels like blindly walking through a forest in the middle of a storm, with lots of ghosts whispering through the trees. on the b-side there is “footworks”, which sounds like an out-of-snyc robot drummer is getting chased away by the police. both tracks connect through their simple yet beautifully silly basslines, which are paving the way for some heavily pounding drumtracks.

the ep opens up with -plastic motion,- a techno track that is full of layers of subsonic pulsations, monolithically consuming the entire a-side. the sounds of the sirens are balanced against heavily stylized basslines moving in and out of the framework while bursts of white noise appear through the fog, creating a telekinetic hallucination. the b-side starts with the title track -confess.- a ruthless song that crushes together bass-heavy broken beat rhythms with straight-ahead kicks and snares. it s about to burst out of its seams any minute as psychedelic synths and buried vocals command it all to stay together.

for brainstem casino s take off, strictly hardware voyager *sour* generated «quantum process», an ep that comprises four, rather spartan yet not the current i-put-three-sounds-so-it s-minimal, haunting and deepseated downtempo tracks. the first segment of the (limited to 300 copies) 12-, 140gr. polyvinyl chloride chunk, which extends to 9:22 minutes commences with muffled and fathomless pads. then a three steps acidish build up subtely incises through like a reptilian sword coming out of an another dimension. the next track is in a similar vein, however, uplifted presence of cowbells and tight repetitive drums sways towards a house/funk guidance. side b s a staggering 12:19 minutes crepuscular descent into crying structures referencing to 90 s sci-fi universes. additionally coming along with the digital download, is a downreaching, abysmal ambient track called «cleavage». yes, either in your confortable conapt or in a decaying, technological dystopian, space-cargo style gig, this will drive your audience to definitive brain melting!

from the darkest corners of the rca vaults we bring you this super rare and wonderful, tripped out cosmic-psych rarity on 45! from 1977 this double-header is an eastern themed, moog driven oddity from the mysteriously monikered kamel oil company. written by the legendary bob azzam, eddie barclay (founder of barclay records) & greek record company owner antoine flamaritis, mustapha is an exotica soaked orchestral monster with choir vocals and string arrangements that only the big boys could call in. this is a serious left-field nugget from the vaults of one of the biggest majors, one ends up thinking - how did this come about?! . on the flip-side we have petrolo en bruto , which is the real gem here, undoubtedly this one will appeal to fans of the far flung reaches of world music and psych, even those of you who dig the various flavours of funk from around the globe. a truly special and unique record here, often sought after by the deepest of the crate diggers and obscure sound searchers on a promo 45, this rare ep now sees a fully legit reissue. made in conjunction with above board distribution and rca this reissue is sourced from their vaults using original materials and remastered and repressed to the highest standard for 2018 and featuring all original 1977 rca label artwork.

when the one o ones originally released radio cosmo disco back in 1977 it was confined to 7inch, which is no place for such majestic cosmic groove exploration. now best records are continuing their quest to repress every hidden gem of italian dance music and beyond, and they re doing radio cosmo 101 the right way. the full disco version of the track gets to stretch out on a full 12inch side, and does so in a dreamy haze of feel good funk. you can still hear the radio edit on the flip, and the original instrumental jam is included for those who want to drift away on those sumptuous tones of the backing track.

italian duo hiver present the spiritual machines ep, their debut on obscura. inverted scale brandishes a hypnotic synth lead that swirls into a formidable energy. the title track is a meditative ambient cut immersed in deep waters, whilst glass effect? exposes a similar form with radiant sonic properties. on the b side, orbe turns the title track into a low slung basement workout, whilst crossing avenues rework of rj45 channels psytrance and rave sentiments.

pavel milyakov continues his rassvet records imprint with second release representing a soundtrack for gosha rubchinskiy a/w 18 show which took place in st petersburg in an old soviet palace of culture, one of the first spots for 90s russia illegal raves. this soundscapes explore and reflect atmosphere of russian rave revolution, using trance loops and chords, deconstructed and arranged the same fresh way as rubchinskiy s collection does. b-side is featured with dancefloor banger and a bonus locked-groove.

one of the most mysterious and outsider soca 45s out there by h.m. these eyes timothy. the a-side let me love sounds like doo wop recorded with oluko imo s gear. and the b-side soca hustle sounds like the residents jamming a marvin whoremonger song with augustus pablo. the original 45 is so obscure that even his siblings didnt know that he made music. and rumour has it that, frustrated by its lack of success, michael threw most of the copies of the 45 in the valley beside his family s house in the hills just outside port of spain. one-time pressing of 500 copies

dj assam is back on lehult with three futuristic club cuts on im still in 2 it, balancing pounding functionality and dystopian atmosphere.
shatterdome, cut deep across the whole first side of this record, is a no-prisoners-taken club workout that comes of surprisingly lightheaded with a pushing low-end and dusky athmo-stabs. lola t70 is a late night car chase on cyber-highway, reminiscing thx-1138 leaving everything behind in the classic george lucas sci-fi film: a state of floating acceleration and melancholy. say hi to everyone is signature.

after the first vinyl release (analog dub sessions) dub communication is back on 7”. this time frenk is using his korg ms20 to lay down an analog militant dub bass foundation. creating subs, stabs and catchy melody lines. a live played melodica, dipped in spring verbs, adding a human touch to the mix. futhermore we got atmospheric chords and heavy drums rhythms, as we know, frenk likes to produce. for the b side, there’s a heavy remix from belgium dub producer digid. his signature bass growl takes over, filtering and phasing through the audio spectrum. he adds more weight to the drums and new melodies on top. from the half time to the steppers rhythm as frenk took it the other way around.

cultures of soul records has teamedup with local boston disco queen saucy lady to put together a 12inch, released in conjunction with their tokyo nights female j-pop boogie funk compilation. this 12inch features a cover of the sublime song town, originally recorded by minako yoshida. the b-side is a cover of honey b, originally written and recorded by toshinobu kubota. both tracks are recreated and produced by saucy lady and yuki u-key kanesaka.

the first release of our new project studio mule is a cover of japanese 80s dance classic carnaval by taeko ohnuki. is studio mule a band? unit? we never have fixed member except kuniyuki takahashi as a track maker. we invite who we love. the first gest is our beloved miyako koda aka dip in the pool. you remember the reissue of on retinae on music from memory. miyako koda is one of the most carisma model in japan in 80s and the vocalist of experimental pop band dip in the pool. dance edit on a side is true to the original. off course more playful than original. extended edit on b side is more club friendly house version.

irenicspc002 brings us two new tracks by bas amro, best known for his releases on freerange records and wolfskuil records. for this ep he takes an unusual straight-forward approach, chained is a driving dub track with beautiful chords, while nearing leans towards the deeper side of the techno spectrum. with both tracks being very suitable for the dancefloor, the b-side finds label boss roger gerressen changing pace, delivering a remix for the early hours.

laconic phrases are all about less words and more sense. we use the same principles in our stripped down grooves which are released on fresh imprint - laconica. its all about minimalistic dance-floor tools which were tested in different clubs around the world, from kyiv s closer to concrete in paris.
for a debut ep, label founder alex pervukhin presents 3 different grooves. on the a-side you can find hommie groove, which is an excellent example of a broken-beat house music with good-old airy juno pads. on b side there are two 4/4 tools: bb, which could be heard in varhat’s mix for concrete which was so hyped last year. aa is a peak-time killer with analogue chords and jackin bassline. strong minimalistic grooves - exactly what laconica is all about.

after last year s stellar ep on l.i.e.s. records, veteran, brooklyn-based producer and dj jake reif (savage hymn, upsetting keys) continues to make waves with his device control brand. the first side of the new ep2 begins with silhouettes: a robotic, techno-funk work out with a nasty kick drum, swirling modular sounds and a timothy leary inspired vocoded vocal. an instrumental version has been included for selectors who prefer tracks to songs. on the flip, joystuck continues the aural assault with a slightly more stripped-back approach. hard-hitting metallic percussion and screaming, alien-esque synth bleeps are all that s necessary here to decimate a dance-floor. finally, divisive rounds out the ep with a stomping vengeance, its jacking claps and dissonant harmonics have been carefully designed to deliver a sonic gut-punch, taking no prisoners when played on a club system

xen & yovav return to malka tuti in 2018 with full thrust and eyes to the future. after being responsible for the first 2 releases on the label, this time the enigmatic singer and the influential producer collaborate and deliver 2 original songs. hayom etmol is a 100% good vibe diy post-punkish poppy song with a flowing synthetic bass line, balearic guitar riffs and dreamy vocals. the b-side, shavit, is a vocal led song, with a repetitive guitar bassline and, trip guitar riffs and a minimalistic drum machine. low fi in its production shavit feels as if it has been dug out of an abandoned 80s record store in the outskirts of glasgow or amsterdam, with a strong cold wave feel to it. this 7” will be the first in a series of more diy approach to electronic music, song writing and production. some exciting names on the bill so hold on to your chairs... hayom etmol’s artwork design was made as always by morey talmor, with a printed inner sleeve designed by the israeli artist kobi swissa and a special silkscreened outer pvc sleeve.

following the acclaimed first album of al sunny released in 2017, favorite recordings proudly presents this single remix package of open up your eyes. al sunny is a young composer emerging from the french soul music scene. soon after learning the guitar, he started composing and became involved in numerous projects and collaborations. he quickly discovered deep inside himself the music that he truly loves, inspired by artists such as tim maia, america, al green, and al jarreau. during his studies he met musicians including florian pellissier, and it s then thanks to florian that he met pascal rioux, founder and a&r of favorite recordings. together they produced time to decide, a first album acclaimed by many tastemakers and gaining a solid success in japan. one of the highlights of the lp was the track open up your eyes, which disclosed the premise of al sunny music style, infused with blue-eyed-soul, pop and folk. also tainted with a funky dancefloor color, open up your eyes was a perfect match to build a nice remixes package for djs. on the a side, bruno patchworks hovart delivers again a hot soulful/disco version of the song with his famous touch. as for the b side, favorite recordings asked the canadian producer jex opolis (good timin records), with a disco style slightly more oriented in electronic and house vibes.

2018 repress in black double hole sleeve! after their joyful meeting back in the cloverleaf days, smallville buddies jacques bon and christopher rau are finally back as a team to present two jams of rough-but-sweet house music. jacques is running the paris-dependance of smallville in france, though living in hamburg since a while. he recently released on berlin-based label aim. christopher rau, well-known in the world of house after records on pampa, ethereal sounds, dérive and of course smallville- just to name a few. together as bon & rau, they travel along the blurry side of the moon.

vinyl only! italian producer noha, delivering two different cuts for point006. the a side is a dance floor oriented track, while the b side will bring you straight into after hour mood.

the third of march’s trio of py 45s, is a revisit to the always enjoyable dark electro world of berlin’s mighty detox twins.
the new record offers up a pair of killer synthpop gems which, in the words of the bands’ mark vorderhaus “drift into the arena of the unwell with their latest outing “in the hospital garden”, and pose the curious questions: is it so unfortunate to surrender your mind to a permanent altered state? can losing oneself irreversibly to a manipulated insanity, actually prove to become a rare and wonderful freedom? attraction battles control as the transformation completes itself. the b-side, “transformation” depicts the liberated insanity without challenge, now thriving and pulsating beyond the point of any return.”
two more ace tunes which precede a full length later in the year for polytechnic youth. killer hooks from synth maestro mark, aligned with glorious effect to devi’s icy nico-esque vocals. another winner for both artist and label!

polytechnic youth enter the fray once again, continuing an already productive year (these new 45s are 4/5/6th releases in 2018 already!) with a trio of quite brilliant yet totally different 45s.
alpár aka hungarian bálint zalkai, is the co-founder of farbwechsel, the budapest based record label, and his own recordings of electronic compositions (often built upon random looping sequencers in a minimalist style) are key to the label’s release output thus far. his goal as he sees it is to “catch a random pattern, loop it and build up a piece with that randomly pulsing theme. just let to flow the voltages and sound waves and try not to disturb them or change their basic behaviours”.
the two tracks here were recorded with this approach very much in mind. the atmosphere of “mejiro” is “not unlike a bird observation. attempting to find the right spot, getting closer and closer to the bird, which almost controls you and your movements as you attempt to near it”. whereas “wakayama” is a more direct piece, and maybe the most melodic song alpár ever recorded. while “mejiro” is a woozy, cautious piece, “wakayama is like a tropical fruit or the ume, (the japanese apricot), colourful and full of flavour yet -with thanks to- the slowly humming theme in the background, an element of sourness grips you at the back of your tongue as it ends!
