it s been a long, long time since coyu produced an ep full of original tracks for his beloved kitty label. september of 2013 was the last party groovers from him. through all these months our mastercat has released several eps on cocoon recordings, snatch! records, noir music, bedrock records and some edits and original tracks with ramiro lopez and edu imbernon that have been released on suara. finally, we have our mastercat alone with two oustanding cuts. in my mind is a dark techno track with a break that it will literally blow your head up... balls , however, is a very housey and summery cut that will definetely break your hips because of the instantly recognisable vocals and the killer darbuka rhythm. enjoy this is 100% coyu!

harry agius has been making waves as midland since 2010, releasing a series of increasingly impressive 12”s as a solo artist but also collaborating with the likes of ramadanman (pearson sound), breach and pariah on labels such as aus music, naked naked, works the long nights and his own graded imprint. he is also a prolific remixer who has lent his talents to artists such as lone, guy gerber, julio bashmore, dusky and more. we can proudly say he came to many people’s attention via his first phonica 12” ‘play the game’ back in 2010 and he has remained a friend and regular at the shop ever since. midland’s well deserved rise has been a delight to watch from the sidelines and we’re glad to welcome harry back to phonica with the fantastic ‘before we leave’. it starts slowly but surely as reverb soaked percussion comes to the fore, cushioned by the truly beautiful string melody, which we’re sure will be stuck in many a head this year! this could well be midland’s most deftly handled arrangement yet. running back’s gerd janson wisely decides to stick to the original track’s feel, letting the strings weave their magic, yet also brings the bassline and drums to the forefront. delicately but expertly done. midland rounds out the 12” with his barebones drums and percussion-only ‘bonus beats’ version, perfect dj tool material. we wish more records had these!

it s been a busy 2014 so far for label head dubfire. whilst nothing unusual for the persian-born producer, with the revival of deep dish (alongside sharam), the release of their new single quincy, the continuation of the sci+tec radio show, the release of his much vaunted remix of come featuring asia argento and his relentless global touring schedule, it would be a surprise to find even a slither of studio time for original dubfire productions.

that dope loop pinning down sascha dive as cocoons deephouse wunderkind wouldnt really hit the nail on the head however it isnt far from truth. compared to most other artists of this genre he can for sure be classified as a young gun but there is no soundproof for his age in his music at all.
