last year kyodai dropped breaking, which to date is the biggest selling release on local talk. now the brothers are back with in our opinion a future house anthem. the scene is a classic piano house cut that’s impossible to resist and together with one the coolest vocal samples we’ve ever heard we think this has the potential to go really big. when the breakdown drops we’re pretty sure everybody in the club will chant. but as if this was not enough we also got another big tune on the b-side. moving is the continuation of “breaking” and goes along the same lines with its crossover jazz styled house. once again kyodai delivers a supa solid house production with large jazz breakdowns and old school vocals that’s right up their with ”breaking”. this is also why we called it…breaking pt.2. kyodai is currently working on their debut album for local talk which is due later this year. they’re also travelling around the world with their amazing live dj set that we highly recommend. trust us when we say that these two brothers really now how to turn up the heat in a club…serious biz!

quality limited reissue of this classic lp from californian singer/songwriter, ned doheny. though beloved of the recent balearic scene with fans including harvey, lexx, moonboots et al, ned was under-appreciated during his own era with this superlative lp only ever securing a vinyl release in japan, making it a seriously hard to get hold of album but definitely worth the effort. following on from his iconic hard candy lp, 1979 s prone is again bursting with californian sun-soaked gems showcasing doheny s signature laidback funky musical style and relaxed unpolished vocals. from quality soulful groovers such as think like a lover and if you only knew through to the sophisticated disco sounds of sweet friction and funky love , there s not a filler in sight but the icing on this tasty west coast cake has got to be dj s favourite - the great jazz-funk floor-filler to prove my love . an essential album - don t miss!

the multicultural artist arash (with persian origins) made his first contact with electronic dance music in the mid 90s. mainly influenced by the classic house sound of the 90s and the german electronic music scene around frankfurt, he found his passion to house & techno music. as a teenager he started to spin vinyl and got deeper & deeper into the world of dance music and club culture. after a few years of loving & living he started to host & play on his own parties in the region with his own touch and view of electronic dance music. this was followed by appearances in various clubs and off locations. his dj sets are made of a danceable mixture of groovy deephouse and techhouse. 2011 arash started to take his passion on the next level with shaping his own sound. since then he released tracks on record labels like kiara records (barcelona), bla bla (amsterdam), be real (amsterdam) and night drive music (berlin). arash is definitely an artist to keep a close eye and ear on!

brand new label contemporary scarecrow launches this january with a double pack vinyl ep from chicago house veteran boo williams, entitled >back to the future / looney chunes vol.1<. contemporary scarecrow is an australian based fashion and record company bringing you intriguing clothing and music. here the labels inaugural release kicks things off in style with four fresh cuts from boo williams and three tracks from the past repressed for the package and accompanied by full colour sleeves. boo williams was propelled into the underground house and techno scene through long time ally glenn underground who introduced williams to music production back in the late 90s, boo has since gone on to record for reputable imprint such as josh winks ovum, rush hour and cajmeres releif.

soniculture continues its series of underground releases with tracks from famous artists that are on a secret mission. physical format will be on vinyl with black sleeves and no information whatsoever about the artists. we are just disclosing the number of tracks and the running time of each one. after the success of the great kick-off for this series, now we have another amazing release with three tracks from a really reputable artist that has left his mark in the techno scene for many years now.

feelharmonic proudly welcomes birke tm to our label with his debut ep *oro jackson*. the young german producer steps up to the mark with the warm, extra-deep title track *oro jackson* leading the way followed by the storming *the white tree*, a cut created specifically with the underground party scene in mind, while *all star swing* is a gentler and emotional groover. when it came to remixing *oro jackson* we had only one man in mind, birke tms friend iron curtis who delivers a brighter and more soulful interpretation of the original.

midnight shift returns with its sophomore outing shift 002, presenting two artists recontextualised from the conventions from which they came: iron curtis from depths of the deep house realm and one ultrademon, the notorious inventor of the seapunk scene. once again, a notable split ep with each of the 4 tracks owning its unique place in the world.

over the last year i have traveled to canada frequently for gigs and got to know the small but healthy electronic music scene there. cities like montreal, vancouver and toronto have brought forth many established artists over the past few years, such as egyptrixx, azari & iii, basic soul unit, jacques greene, lunice and sixtoo, but 2012 has seen a new breed of no-nonsense house and techno producers come up via labels like turbo recordings and naked lunch. this *dovercourt ep* features three very talented producers: kevin mcphee, nautiluss and gingy. their tracks are a dedication to their hometown of toronto. being removed from the house/techno epicentres of berlin and london, these three are much less interested in what is fashionable or trendy, and more in bringing us straight to the point, no frails jacking house music. i have been playing these three extensively in my dj sets, and i hope you will too. so out to toronto, this one is for you! enjoy. martyn

frank lorber is not only one of the rocks in the frankfurt scene over 20 years, hes also known as the label founder of nummer and an indelible part of the cocoon empire.

knox is the band brainchild of brother-sister duo nic and eliza coolidge. hailing from boston and new york, the siblings released their second ep, here, on december 3rd, and it is a big step forward for the band. formed less than two years ago, in march 2011, knox finds themselves working with the likes of john tejada and kuxxan suum on this release, and the outcome is stunning. here is five-song set full of ice and echoes. it runs as close to the third rail of impersonation, but flies away so quickly that knox sounds contextual and perfectly fresh. the influences from james blake is clear: the swooping, bomber bass and half-timey compressed dub beats, here could also easily be an inventive b-side to the latest how to dress well album. but, with the limited scale, interspersed remixes and foundling status in the scene, i would say it is likely a more impressive feat. the ep as a whole is desolate. expansive spaces filled with cold little beats and vocal washes, exploring in the course of five songs an icescape aesthetic with a sense of place usually reserved for full-length albums. the remixes blend so seamlessly that i didnt even realize they were during my first, casual listen.

enzinos is a little new label from a little old guy. every enzinos release consists of a few tracks: classic techno/house re-edits and one lucky - dip. whether you are new to the scene or an old hand, you should find something to play with, as enzinos gives old favourites a new twist. dont let partying lead to paranoia, take it easy with a re-edit.

toby tobias joins the d.o.g crew for release no. 29 and fits like the proverbial glove with an incredible ep which truly lives up to its name.its probably fair to say that toby is one of the unsung heroes of the uk scene having played a pivotal part in developing the underground disco scene of the late noughties. his late night audio parties alongside releases on rekids, lets play house, nang and quintessentials speak volumes as to the mans skills and fastidious nature and here he delivers what wed be so bold as to say his best work yet with the pathfinder ep.

steve lees (the project club) above machine label returns with a superb 12 from the vendetta suite, the brainchild of gary irwin - belfast resident and long-term collaborator with david holmes. irwins inspiration comes from weatheralls seminal a love from outer space and belfasts early 90s sugar sweet nights. irwin creates two pieces both in thrall to the keeping the faith balearic scene. additional remixes are provided by disco aficionado ray mang (dfa) and nottinghams heavy dub brothers shrinkwrap. above machine are heading straight for the dance floor on this release.

dusty baron aka latecomer may be a recent arrival on the scene, but he plays like a true veteran. a mysterious export from the around same eastern latitudes as label boss vakula, his music, much like vs, sounds just as rooted in the post soviet russian landscape as it is in the post industrial north america which gave rise to all the soul and machine funk that is the driving inspiration for so many of todays roots conscious electronic artists. vakula takes the controls on side a with dubwise and exotic production skills whilst side b showcases the barons heavy heavy chops, with drum programming as deft as his keys work, and a sound which is equal parts earthly and heavenly. sides c & d (on bonus 7inch) see v step up to offer two takes on >follow shot<, continuing the theme of techno tinged jazz cosmism. a noble introduction, by way of collaboration, to the dusty baron and his sound, and yet another installment in lelekas continuing contribution to the musical space time continuum.

dj nature aka milo steps uponce again to the indispensable golf channel label, with his eagerly awaited debut artist album comprising all original material. a founding member of legendary bristol sound-system collective the wild bunch (which spawned massive attack, tricky and much more), nature made nyc his home in the early 90s & went on to collaborate with the major force crew in japan, before hooking up with gc boss phil south, who thankfully persuaded him to don his production cap once again. there followed a series of acclaimed 12 inch releases through gc which developed a trademark sound, a sound he’s fully realised on >return of the savage<. natures unique take on modern black music is somewhere between the bass heavy sound system cuts on which he cut his teeth and the more nuanced vibe of peers like theo parrish. irresistible, low slung and beautifully structured yet raw club pieces make up this outstanding selection - a superbly packaged gatefold double lp, complete with download codes for individual tracks as well as the mixed version.
