office recordings continues to surprise us. after baaz s techno-/ambient-hybrid on office 011 the label from berlin comes up with a stunning new and anonymous project called * one day* featuring four also unnamed tracks. the a-side of the record starts off with a with a superb deep techno track which tempts us with very emotional pads and a strong kick and bass fundament û an irresistible combination. a2 goes in the same direction but feels like the slightly mellower and softer brother of its predecessor û a little bit moody but still straightforward at the same time. the flip side is dedicated to two freestyle electronic tracks standing in the tradition of the best warp offerings from their heyday in the 90s. weÆre talking charming melodies and sparse but elaborate rhythmic patterns. the record comes in a hand stamped and with a lovely artwork also hand made by office art director super quiet. all tracks have been mastered and cut by sound engineering proficient pole at scape mastering.

unknown mobile has quietly carved out a place for himself in the ever-evolving vancouver beat camp among contemporaries like mood hut, 1080p and project pablo. last years no motion 12 on a/s/l singles club was levi bruces dreamy introduction to most, and 2017 finds him stretching out a bit to further expand his palate of rhythms and textures across the five track mixed use ep for young adults. four sided pebble is a breezy bouncer woven with tickled keys, raw bass and a seamlessly organic live feel throughout. shoreline dub pulses in stuttered syncopation, but keeps its sights set on the dusk dusted horizon with delayed rhodes chords and ocean swells. country side is a total mind-melt, a pastoral graze through mazes of circuit board crop circles. the juggler churns a buttery 4/4 beat in an echo chamber, while proteus 216 dims the lights on its way out to an interstellar communications convention.

on �rest in space�, his first full length outing for music for dreams, the lp keeps a steady pace of around 90-95 bpm, but never gets repetitive with islandman taking us on a rich and ever surprising journey, full of quirky turns and mysterious instrumentations. the opener �rest in space� treats us to a funky percussion-thick rhythm that lounges into a pool of playful & jazzy horn & flute arrangements. this is followed by the epic �night wind� which sweeps across cinematic desert landscapes of synth layers and falls into a dark night time groove reminiscent of nicolas jaar & dave harrington�s darkside project. �seikleos� centers around a motorik electronic rhythm pattern (not unlike the classic electro-pop classic �popcorn�) that develops into a chugging balearic house jam while stand out track �future days� brings in a female guest vocalist to complete the album with a breezy full on groover that echoes of both sheila chandra and tom tom club. also included is the previously released digital single �agit� as well as a remix by berlin-based m.rux, toning down the heavy guitar of the original in favor of a more bouncier interpretation. the stunning �ikaru� wades in through chunks of jungle ambiance and watery percussion to lounge along on a rubbery funk bassline, coupled with a heavy laid back beat and wobbly derelict synth figures. �tawhid� is an odd mix of new wave brilliance and prog momentum that breaks into a cascade of pouring rain and surprising percussion breaks. lastly comes gorgeous eastern guitar opus �the true word of the wind� and the warm vibey dreamscape �following�. as a whole, islandman delivers a delicate buffet of influences - spanning the spectrum from hazy balearic pop to tropical new age flirts to deep spiritual psychedelic jamming.

love & loops is back ! after the 1st release the label commanded by ale castro returns to the ring. the 1st track of the vinyl belongs to the young argentine talent gruuv who drop a super groovy tune to start shaking the dance floor. then ale castro finally release his improvisation on the synthesizers, a classic of jackin house in his presentations, now available to the whole world. side b kick off with the very well-know german producer dotstripe, who continues the synthesizer madness with a full groovy track with vocals that remind his old school roots. last but not least, bs as deep delivers another sick tune with his classical house sound, perfectly to close this 2nd various artists, a bunch of tools for any kind of dance floor, music made with love, loops and some random machines.

i try to perform as honestly as possible � the soundbite borrowed from late dancer dudley williams for this record s second track could have been uttered by the mole himself. it s this candor that has allowed us to bear witness to a very marked and very audible transition from his days as a producer in montreal to becoming a part of the berlin scene. and what we have here is one result of that very explicit sonic metamorphosis. de la planet is our dyslexic subject s third studio album, one that stays true to his ethos of weird above all in the best possible sense. and yet it feels like something distinctly new. tapping his enormous reservoir of vinyl and sampling the odd film have acted as complement to the jaw-dropping arsenal of synthesizers at de la plante s disposal�a battery of machines he s been quietly improving his skills on during the past few years. or not so quietly, perhaps. the man himself would probably say -i m coming out of the woodshed-, and go off on a tangent about sonny rollins and his saint of a wife. but that s a story for another sheet.

shintaro.d is new on the scene, but this promising japanese producer follows up on his debut on his own label init with this assured 12inch for jus groove it, taking the stripped down deep house template and injecting it with an off-kilter approach to sound design that subtly makes for one of the most effective dj tools heard in recent memory. that track in question is kohisikarubeki, and its remix by rhythm & soul takes those intricately carved shards of sound design and smooths them into a more conventional house music shape. the b-side finds shintaro.d turning out more of that subversive, future-minded deep house business, with waganamidakana being a clear highlight.

emotional response reach out to another fine selection of sonic voyagers to take brain machines excellent peaks lp to task, leading in with the warm discoid undulations of rollmottle who refigures to the stars as a gentle, groovy warm-up joint. die wilde jagd takes on mercury ripples and fashion a bombastic breaks jam out of it, and merrick adams pushes alpha moon into a curious but ultimately cosmic space somewhere beyond the titular lunar body. cass takes the prize with the bittersweet synth tones that course through the two-part remix of nexus vox.

coming to life on a hazy cloud of natural instrumentation and meditative composition, modern manners tap into the appetite for delicate new age musings beautifully on this debut release. amor y odio is laced with spanish guitar musings that spiral out over a simple but effective drum break that harks back to classic downtempo, while running with me edges towards a more sprightly lounge headspace while retaining the rich musicality felt on the first track. instant illusion is propelled by a bassline that wouldn t sound out of place on a house track, but here its punching out in a subtle, laid back environment that aims to get you horizontal in the most sophisticated way possible.

bionda e lupo are like little you ll have heard before, a boy/girl band like no other. synth wave is fed a line of modern alienation, delusory disco to a disdainful drum beat, house emptied and ridiculed. rhythms are stark, melodies are as mechanical as the lyrics. -zug der vogel- is sparse, vocals intertwine in an empty embrace whilst bars sparkle. -twoi glasza- is more playful. bright words shimmer against sweeping strings. the past is parodied across the ep but nowhere more so than in -die kinder aus dem park.- a former classic dug out before being peppered by machine gun percussion. the stilted rhyme of -eckstein- closes, a ballad of bittersweet images and lost hopes.

munichs martin matiske started his recording career at fifteen with his stunning ep stars & galaxy for dj hells gigollo records back in 2002. here he dons 4 fresh tracks for the vivod label with his trademark electro sound, somewhere between dopplereffekt, classical & wave. kicking off the ep is die nibelungen, a sort of speak & spell classical piece with an electro backing track. a2 - bayerischer wald is a chord heavy majestic bomb in a 5/4 time signature, maybe a stretch too far for the linear techno dj but thats what makes this ep so interesting. b2 - virtuosic mechanic harks back to his previous work on gigollo records, a more club orientated track which should do some effective damage on the floor. rounding things off is kammermusik, a subtle electro ballad. if you like your electro with a heavy classical influence then this is your ep.

stephen laubner never fails to deliver the goods, whether on his own label something or elsewhere. having recently popped up on the untold stories, this time around hes dropping his uniquely crusty compositions on synthetic gold. after a quietly disconcerting ambient opening, the leftfield grind of the taphead pushes an uncompromising agenda of ragged bass and an unrelenting groove. october sunrise by way of contrast is a more intimate, sweet natured affair. syntax error too taps into the softer side of laubner s craft in a most mesmerizing of ways, but for the die hard fans fear not, there s also plenty of locked groove loops included to keep you tripping into infinity.

antwood (a.k.a. canada�s tristan douglas) returns to planet mu with his second album �sponsored content�. the album is more reflective than his debut, last year�s �virtuous.scr�. the relentless mood of the first album has given way to a more melodic, stripped out sound. it still shakes with speed and energy, but with more space, more moments of delicate sadness and strange cyborg pop. what comes to the fore in �sponsored content� is tristan�s gift for melody, coupled with the uncanny feeling that somehow his strange music is an entire ecosystem of it�s own.

for the third release on decoder recordings, filip xavi makes his debut to the label. the serbian producer and resident dj of the drugstore club in belgrade delivers four superb techno tracks. all of them are characterized by an obscure sound but directly aimed at the dance floor. the first track wd-4d is a powerful opening of the ep, with its successor aw-fl keeping pace nicely. the b side of this ep can t be ignored, as the opening track he-ap kicks off quite fierce. the final composition named d-ui is an excellent hypnotic dj tool.

chicago�s carington pierre, also known as lanzo, has bestowed evidence of his cosmic hip hop beatology to the cold busted label in the form of a new album, omnipotent. previously recording for blvnt records and the natural selection label, lanzo specializes in a style of experimental hip hop that draws from boom-bap, soulful downtempo, and atmospheres that lean toward the celestial. lanzo and his trusty mpc 1000 have been actively producing since 2008 and omnipotent confrms his upward trajectory, presenting ffteen tasty sonic morsels that groove in a confdent but abstract fashion. highlights include �comfort zone� which envelopes a swinging rhythm in dreamy strings, distant voices, and rolling bass, and the odd but appealing �gutter balls�, featuring some deliciously drunken synths. there�s also the melancholy quiet storm of �colours�, �against the wall� and its heavily processed beat magic, and the loping sci-f jazz of �between friends�. omnipotent is a heady listen, displaying textures and swirls that accentuate the sturdiness of its drum beats. lanzo has provided a distinctive soundtrack that�s ready-made for day blazing or night groovin�.

london duo jynx provide the next chapter to kidnap kid�s birds that fly, an imprint quickly building a slim but effective catalogue.
this two tracker is a true fusion of sound, entangling vibrant ukg percussion, emotive vocals and charmingly quirky production.
altogether it creates something beautiful and unique, echoing the individuality of the label itself.

there is a long-standing love affair between dj harvey and pikes, ibiza. as well as coming back for his third consecutive �mercury rising� residency, the legendary �djs� dj has been appointed �cultural attaché� for pikes, meaning his magic touch and feel-good presence will create even more special moments at pikes this summer, including the launch of new label, pikes records.
in 2015 dj harvey made his hugely anticipated return to ibiza and made pikes his home for his mercury rising debut, a concept inspired by the beauty of the real ibiza, the incredible history of pikes and a genuine love for music. the love, the dancing, the music and the balearic spirit perfectly and poetically encapsulated by dj harvey has seen mercury rising widely recognised as the most special night to embrace the island in over a decade.

during the mid-80s and early 90s movin� records defined the new jersey sound. a skate-shop-turned-record-store run by the so-called �fairy godmother of house� abigail adams, movin�s first output was �i�ve got the music� by boyd jarvis in 1987, followed by music from game changers blaze, kerri chandler, tony humphries and smack, straight up �jersey jams� that producers are still attempting to replicate to this day. still the movin� records catalogue throws up gems that sound super fresh along with plenty of lightbulb moments of musical discovery.
for the most part movin� records focused on soulful vocal tracks but they peppered a few deeper tracks into the catalogue too. this is one of those releases and one of the rarer titles to find from the label. produced by steve kelly and steve �lucky� benson as 3 a.m., this was the only single under that group name, although they were involved in other productions from new jersey. deep chords, a heavy kick and a low-end bass form the backing for the repeated vocal line �i love this place�. the �place of worship� mix brings an uplifting piano line to the forefront, whilst an organ line jams out through the track with a jazzy walking bassline holding the groove together.

repress , swedish disco aficionado drop out orchestra has been plying his trade in the world of slick edits and on-point party fodder for the best part of ten years now, and now he comes to riot gear with a sure fire club classic to share. there s no prizes for guessing the source material on -holding on-, but in this context the evergreen crossover jam gets a modern steroid injection, having never sounded more contemporary than here. yam who? sidles in for a remix that does a subtle job, simmering down some of the familiar vocals and making a slinkier cut that still hits hard. -knucklehead- brings a little more jacking drum machine action to the table, but still disco is the main order of the day, while -where is my man- takes the prize with its on point jazz funk licks and stomping beat.

tenderness - a short-lived disco project helmed by james purdie and skip mahoney only released one 45 and one 12� single during their brief existence. known for their work with chuck brown & the soul searchers & frank hooker & positive people and many more, this duo were undoubtedly a highly talented producer, songwriter and keyboardist combination. originally released on rca in 1978 keep on trying was an underground club hit. the record still packs an immense punch today, it�s a mixture of tough streetwise drums and percussion and swooping dramatic strings and brass will surely hit the spot for disco aficionados. the kind of record you can imagine causing all out pandemonium at the garage while the scents of amyl and sweat fill your nostrils. the kind of record that would make everyone on the raised stages and podiums at the powerhouse whoop and holler in collective joy as frankie stylishly segues it into a punishing percussion break-down. yep. it�s that kind of disco record, so rare and so coveted that even the infamous dj harvey put it over his knee and gave it a good editing way back when. there�s been a shedload of poor imitations knocking around, dodgy euro bootlegs etc, but this 2017 repress is from the master tapes (yes, we can prove it) and is fully, 100% legit in every way. keep on trying - now available again, released in conjunction with rca. back on the streets. same as it ever was! essential disco heat here, buy on sight!

pure emotion carried by cosmic soul in the guise of underground melodic techno is what justin zerbst offers us with his first release on metamorphic. justin might be considered up and coming despite having released his first record on the highly regarded australian label red ember in the 90s. since then the melbourne based producer has released only a handful but extremely sought after records on eklo, seekers, and red ember. now his music, deeply influenced by detroit and especially midwest techno finds a natural home on metamorphic. four tracks of pure analog machine soul, created in the 90 s but never released until now, capturing the raw energy and excitement of that era. robert feuchtel at fat of excellence production services cologne, bridges the divide between now and then with his unparalleled mastering skills.

the fifth instalment of the hoxton records story turns to alan castro, who has already had a busy year appearing on the likes of for club, stamp and soundterasse. the vibe is stripped down and unhinged on this record, with lead track el avion de la mentira unfurling in a strange tapestry of samples, found sounds and off kilter synth rubs strapped to a crafty set of drums. modebaku delivers a more streamlined version of the track that keeps things freaky, but much more linear than the wayward original. sequela on the flip is no slouch in the adventurous department either, with swathes of modulating tones and wild sonic matter flinging around a funky shuffle, which ted amber then dutifully bolsters with a rubbery b-line on his more functional but still daring version

alpenglühen, the madrid-based monthly nights, focused in ambient techno, emerges in september,2014, inspired by the film -dogville- and the optical phenomenon happening when the last ray of sunshine slowly disappears over the mountains, now, with the moto -exploring the thin line between darkness and light-, alpenglühen, the label, is born, influenced by those sessions. the first installment is produced by the duo, pajaro dune. a young project formed by two well known talented producers from valencia, who gives us a promising kick off release. 4 highly crafted tracks which are somewhere between techno (in its deepest and atmospheric stage), contemporary music and impressionistic electronics. partially inspired on the research by konstantin batygin and michael e. brown on the evidence for a planet the size of uranus between 200 and 1000 au far away from the sun. the titles of the tracks are all but one real objects of our solar system whose movement is theoretically affected by the presence of a distant giant planet yet to be discovered.

making a debut appearance on our own invisible ep 6 compilation last year we re very happy to at last feature a full 4-track ep from the mysterious immaculate rivombo. again the music is filled with that signature sound of live african percussion and 303s but this time with additional thumb pianos, hypnotic vocals and spacey synth lines. purporting to be from burundi (for all we know this could be the product of an elaborate ruse emanating from berlin tbh) the enigmatic producer (he? she? they?) has once again excelled and produced an ep that manages somehow to sound uplifting and spiritual at the same time as it is deep, dark and dubby. whatever, the music s great and that s what matters. definitely one to watch out for. another great ep from invisible inc. trippy, far out sounds. my pick is b1.killer party tool!! a pluck from the obscure like only pacific city sound visions can. these guys tap in where other s tap out. limited numbers, don t miss this truly unique lp. tip! alternatively titled: homoswavesailors, jack cccoys 1984 film about the birth of windsurfing details, through the gaze of the sport as a pre-historic ancient ritual, the exploits of a few of the sports originators. backing up the clear 80�s blue visuals of waves white washed wind blasted fx, is a variety of original pop and synth music made by the films composer, chris eggleton. there are no song titles, rather each track is spiced-up with wind and wave sound fx, which were originally meant to act as sound accents for wave sail action in the film. the pop songs are beach-spiked hits, sounding like new zealands flying nun rock, or blasted out prince chorus funk, but with added film sound fx, the essence of the silver screen begins to creep into the medium of audio disc! the synth music on tradewinds sounds as if tangerine dream made inspirational beach movie tracks during the height of their firestarter period. the mix is arranged by pacific city, so that the summer doesnt crash and burn. for the first time in history, pacific city sound visions presents: the original motion picture soundtrack to tradewinds on vinyl lp.

house for her is a label founding its birth in the need that she s gone had to express his feelings in his mixes and productions. the time came to him, 1 year ago to give the floor to other people, to let everyone build pieces of music around their lived experience. in this release, the four artists came to cover in mist the wax in a cascade of tablecloths sometimes soft and other times more aggressive, to develop a ep rich in questioning, ranging from dance pieces to other more ambient things, linking them together to tell a story. raär and mp-57, as usual, darkened in the pile, revealing brutal tracks but nevertheless completely full of feelings. devant, with a more colorful touch, has come to appease the ep of a piece of a house deep and sexy, endowed with an atmosphere reminding us much nostalgia. and finally entrave, in a final piece, quietly envelops us to finish to walk in this ep, as in a novel, a kind of sombre happy-end.

being selfish, is one of the good things about running your own label. if you please, you can just try and re-release that certain record that you always wanted for yourself, but never could get your hand on it. now, you can just edit it the way you always wanted it to be (oh, those fade-outsà) and press it up. this is one of these occasions. when kalk (the collaborative project of philippe heinen and joffrey becker) was released on julien briffaz label brif in 1999, i just had started to dj out at a club in darmstadt (the late cafÚ kesselhaus) and the restrained, yet punchy house tracks symbolized what i liked about deep house back then: a mellow alternative to the bpm hunt and rigid attitude in mainstream techno, while not losing itself in chin-stroking wisdom or pesky noodling. it seemed that there werent too many around with the same desire. otherwise akasha wouldnt have remained a diamond in disguise and not what morgan geist so aptly named an unclassic. by his definition, that is: an old by and large forgotten record that would have deserved to be hit. if you take discogs as an indicator, more and more people start to think so though. here is your second chance to obtain a copy of the spirit of kalk. mildly edited and restored in the best human-possible way. mind you, its old house music from days of yore. dj gj

some more mexican music on quintessentials! this time from long time buddy 4004, another driving force in mexico and already an established producer with releases on labels like freerange, faces, vicario ltd or quintessentials. mostly doing stuff on his own, quintessentials 56 features a great collab track with stuttgarts stylus heat. im not sure if we find 4004 reasons to like you gerardo, but there are definitely two: youre a cool fella and we love your music - simple as that!

(new 2017 masters) after the widespread success of the first minimal vision compilation on the resurgent vibraphone recordings, the true underground sound of rome return with a second volume that takes in tracks made over a 23 year period. what comes across is how consistent the sound is, whenever an individual jam was made. the same heavy-lidded melodics and easy-funking rhythm sections prevail across all nine cuts here, at times hitting the uplifting pace of vertigo or heading into the meditative pastures of sea bird, but always maintaining that quintessential vibraphone feeling. the diggers will be happy to snag the reissued tracks as well as discovering completely fresh material from rome s premier deep house institution.

albuquerques finest outpost for purist garage house, plastik people, continues to mine the classics on the seventh volume of its collections sub label. first up is the unmistakable class of zed bias with take you there, a track which represents the garage legend getting into a more housed up frame of mind. then it s over to f.a.z.e 1 to keep the pressure up with the heated diva choppage of -wanna touch me before judas play a little something takes things deeper but no less bumping. this is an essential package for anyone craving some under the radar gems from the history of 90s garage house.

in 1973, emi records nigeria released the 45 rpm disc fuel for love b/w soundway, credited to a mysterious band called wrinkar experience. the record was a finely-crafted gem of pop-rock and funky soul as had never before been heard coming out of the countryÆs nascent rock scene, and it ended up being the biggest selling nigerian single up until that point. the success of wrinkar experience effectively demonstrated that was a market for homegrown pop and rock, and sent record labels scrambling to sign similar bands, kicking off the nigerian rock revolution that is still being celebrated and discovered by new generations today. but while wrinkar experience launched the movement, the group itself would be short-lived: after another hit single in 1973, the bands frontman danie ian split for a solo career. the remaining principal players in the group cameroonian musicians ginger forcha and edjoo jacques racine tried to keep the wrinkar name going before giving it up and rebranding themselves as rock town express. rock town expresss debut lp funky makossa was recorded in 1974 for arc records, the cutting-edge studio and label established in lagos by english drum legend ginger baker. the album showcased in long format the qualities that had only been hinted at on the wrinkar experience singles: bright, confident pop melodies, articulate lyrics, and darkly potent funk-rock. comb & razor sound is proud to present a new, fully-authorized reissue of funky makossa, featuring the seven tracks from the original release, plus i am a natural man and i dont want to know, from wrinkar experiences seldom-heard third and final single.
