different worlds music group/fat beats are thrilled to announce the lp and cassette release of the latest album from skizz (dj skizz), “cruise control,” which is skizz’s 2nd official producer-album. over the last couple years, skizz has been working extensively with your old droog, both producing and mixing his music, helping to propel the career of the young mc from coney island. he has also been touring with droog, making beats for other noteworthy artists, and helping start a new label, different worlds music group. this will be the 2nd official release from dwmg, with the first being timeless truth’s critically acclaimed “cold wave” album released this past february. “cruise control is a progression for me sonically,” says skizz. “this album takes you from where b.q.e. left off- it’s still that raw boom-bap, but this album is a bit more laid-back and melodious. it just feels good, like you’re cruising with your lady and the cool breeze is blowing through your hair!” skizz recruited a mix of veteran og mcs (o.c., planet asia, roc marciano, evidence, etc) as well as up-and-comers (your old droog, conway, hus kingpin, da villins etc.) to provide a sonically cohesive album that is set to be the official hip-hop soundtrack for the summer of ’16.

having been rivals on the football pitch as teenagers, a chance encounter many years later - djing at an international windsurfing festival - cumulated in a back to back set that kicked off the italia90 collaboration. putting the footballing differences aside, italia90 grew out of a shared love of quality house music that was influenced greatly by glasgow s close relationship with chicago and institutions such as the sub club that brought these house heroes close to home.

a bonafide legend of chicago house and techno, dj skull has done the business since the early days on all manner of labels, and he s still on it now. shoring up at mentha for this no-nonsense four tracker, skull is on especially deep form here as he heads inwards with the subtle shuffle of -accent- and the insistent melodic mantras of -on the double-. the story is no different on the b side, although -rythmic- sports a more sprightly set of drums in amongst the strafing synth lines before -the unknown land- turns out one of the more eerie jack tracks of our time.

after a split release with chambray on ben sims’ hardgroove in 2016 greek-producer george tounisidis is set to drop a new 12” for symbolism in november entitled ‘solidarity’. with his first two cuts for the british dj’s imprint picking up support from the likes of dvs1, jackmaster and anthony parasole it’s unsurprising sims has tapped him for a full release on symbolism. since signing, tracks from ‘solidarity’ have also featured in both ben sims’ boiler room and run it red radio shows, resulting in a barrage of requests for release details which tees up the ep nicely. musically, ‘solidarity’ moves between scattered sequences and stabs (‘three clicks left’ & ‘solidarity’), muted hypnotics (‘nekyia’) and fractured acid (‘workers’) while all retaining the distinct sense of movement and dynamism that typifies symbolism releases.

fragil musique reaches the 20th release mark, and offers us a very special debut ep from a newcomer to watch. vidock lands on the label with an unusual three tracker, oscillating between intense breakbeat excursions and moody techno hybrids. -dub attack- is the main club weapon here. cycling around the drum loop, pads and samples build up to heavy tension moments, then fade away to fully unleash the force of the stripped down broken kick-bass groove. the pressure is strong and never stops rising, gradually bringing the dancer to a manic arms-shaking state, while sporadic laser synth shots and percussion hints sprinkle the track, smartly shaping its three-dimensional aspect. on the b side, dance music ufo - metamorph - is an epic journey through what feels like unexplored fringes of sample driven emotional dance music. movie-esque haunting voices and disturbing sirens set the vibe, inviting one to drift along this dark and coloured ride. fellow nantes native simo cell goes trippy on the remix, taking apart the most heady bits of the original and extending them into a deep and breaky piece.

undoubtedly a prolific artist at various points in his career, arjen schat revives his ohrwert alias for its first ep in three years with the first release for local traffic. the dubby tendencies of this particular project shine through in abundance on -tornus- with its voluminous reverbs and shimmering delays, all guided by a steady-ticking set of drums. throughout the ep the production values are impeccable, perhaps shining through the most on the blissful closer -weallian- which layers up melancholic synth tones into a beautiful configuration and rounding it out with an instinctive bassline for a heart-melting end result.

*isigude (pronounced - e-see-goo-de... meaning bird of paradise) is a newly founded record label based in athens, greece. for our debut release we have dug deep into the archives of greek jazz fusion to unearth and reissue some obscurities from the catalogue of esteemed composer michalis rakintzis. rakintzis should need no introduction to greek ears, widely recognised as a celebrated composer and lyricist since the 1980s with his career taking in more than 20 personal albums, numerous singles and several high profile collaborations. his composition “arrest”, lifted from 1988 s ost to the film -lifelong- was selected and included on the hugely popular greek music compilation -into the light- in 2012. for isigude s first 12- vinyl release we draw our focus to the 1987 track “i don’t believe” featuring vocalist eleni dimou. -i don t believe- combines pop, rock and eastern melodies and feelings and sold more than 100.000 on it s original release. featured here in remixed form by up and coming greek producer zaq (a.k.a img_02) the original composition is reimagined and the result is a low tempo dreamy, balearic disco burner with dimou s lyrics expressing her disbelief in love, beautiful moments, oaths and sacrifices, with her requesting to be set free. a truly beautiful and tasteful reimagining of a lost rarity, the perfect way to launch the label.
