nick woolfsons teng imprint drops, tactics, this april by german producer mias void, backed with a remix from the barking dogs. mias void, better known in the industry as matthias vogt, has been producing infectious house grooves for quite some time now, with releases for labels such as, chicagos large music and lazy days recordings. here vogt pushes into new territories under his new mias void guise, matthias sees this alias as a chance to express a new, more experimental side of his productions, yet keeping the mv initials to maintain a lock between the distinctions. with releases pinned down for polytone, lo:rise and fullbarr already, this new sound will undoubtedly be as well received as his deeper explorations.

next up on local talk we got a raw peak hour jam from liverpool producer dale howard (lost my dog, large, morris/audio, off rec). there is nothing light or fluffy about these tracks, its just dirty straight up house music with a dark 90s basement feel. for the main track we actually chose the dub version of throwback over of the original mix. we just thought this version was soooo freakin raw even though its more stripped than the original version. you’ll see what we mean when you drop it in the club! the second track in out goes along the same house theories as throwback with jackin beats and deep chords that will do wonders in any authentic house basement. all in all, a might fine release of classic local talk house music. enjoy!

it has been exciting to watch outboxx take shape over the past two years, chasing their vision for a more meaningful kind of deep house music via jakes intense attention to detail, matts way with the keys and naomis arresting voice. it has been a steady progression, reaching out to select labels but keeping things largely close to home on idle hands, immerse and brstl, while their tracks have developed in ever more confident strides.

boomchik is back with a 2nd release. si murray, one half of deep space orchestra, strikes out on his own with his other worlds project. solid basses and rattling percussion fuel an e.p. that gurgles with bright detroitesque finesse and variety that shifts between large almost basic channel feelings, to glitteringly precise house music. a five track release, full of floating pads and spacious reverbs take you directly to other worlds as lush strings and tight percussion patterns do exactly what they intend and trip you back to memories of warehouse days. murrays extremely tight production and musicality give this an edge that though reminiscent of the tones and feel of days gone by, has its feet firmly planted in the here and now.

northern irish garage/house duo ric mcclelland and sean grieve make a guest appearance for nycs on the prowl! some of you might know ric from seven music, nrk, large records, night drive...etc. together they join forces for if you want / move back with remixes by giorgio luceri and club silencio, both of whom have had previous releases on otp (club silencio being an alter ego of robotalco).

hidden recordings introduces its largest and most ambitious project to date – the debut full length artist album of mike wall. mikes history with the label and his rapidly expanding profile has led to this joyous moment. the break-through german talent seamlessly sows nine originals full of over- arching musical motifs: mood, balance, and character – there is a sense of depth and sophistication that underlies mikes unique sound of grime and toughness.

last year kyodai dropped breaking, which to date is the biggest selling release on local talk. now the brothers are back with in our opinion a future house anthem. the scene is a classic piano house cut that’s impossible to resist and together with one the coolest vocal samples we’ve ever heard we think this has the potential to go really big. when the breakdown drops we’re pretty sure everybody in the club will chant. but as if this was not enough we also got another big tune on the b-side. moving is the continuation of “breaking” and goes along the same lines with its crossover jazz styled house. once again kyodai delivers a supa solid house production with large jazz breakdowns and old school vocals that’s right up their with ”breaking”. this is also why we called it…breaking pt.2. kyodai is currently working on their debut album for local talk which is due later this year. they’re also travelling around the world with their amazing live dj set that we highly recommend. trust us when we say that these two brothers really now how to turn up the heat in a club…serious biz!

mussurunga - that is the name which is used by the complete body inked cousins sigi aigner and didi bruckmayr for their outstanding performances on club dance-parties, festivals, free-parties and weddings in the home- and foreign-countries since more than two years. at their shows they use deep bass-lines, demanding beats, gentle hooklines and raging 3-d objects. the large sized mr. state-opera-chorister aigner and the dwarfish universal-bush-leaguer dr. bruckmayr also are known for their benedictional work with the performance-group fuckhead, for them they count as finded minds. mussurunga is a frowing suburb of the brazilian provincial capital salvador da bahia, which aigner and bruckmay vistied job related. while one of them waited without success for a date in mussurunga and spent all the spondulix which was meant for the taxi, the other one worked very hard in the regional beach-bars on artistic concepts. the result of this jobshare is, among other things, the present ep.

whilst most of us would associate the productions of butch with his effortlessly flowing, melodic and uplifting style, perfect music for the summer floors and terraces.... of late, the turkish born producer has been channeling back into his tougher and dare we say it, more butch techno sounds. having bathed us in the gorgeous tones of previous hits such as >papillon< and >eyes wide open<, butchs latest work for quartz music sees him expanding further on his recent chemically inspired cecille release >lsd 25<, by serving up a large helping of acid on, >303<. sinister and deadly, the creeping corrosive cut is perfect soundtrack for those dark strobe lit moments. >soul leaves body< sees on the polar opposite side of our trip as the blissed out beats of the tabla and strains of the sitar sweep us away an ethereal bed of sound.

he next release on hypercolour is a rather large one that has been pursued for a while: an ep from multi-genre explorer, 3024/numbers alumni and all round badman tom reid aka mosca. across four tracks, the pioneering producer offers up his own unique view of house music.

belgian producer, tim van de meutter, aka locked groove, returns to hotflush for a second ep following the success of januarys pivotal rooted release. keep it simple comprises three weighty examples of why the young producers unique fusion of big-room techno and moodier, deep-house elements has been resonating so loudly of late. central to the ep is simplicity itself, how simple structures create something larger than the sum of their parts as >keep running<, with its rattling percussion, acidic bass stabs and euphoric builds, flaunts to the full. >aller simple< adds swing to a similar palette that is as stripped-back as it is heavy-duty. force is replaced by introspection on vinyl-closer, >even< – an inebriated voice reverberates over whispered organs and an understated groove.

i know u combines tribal rhythms, pounding bass, insistent synth stabs, some distressed dialogue and a insanely large crash in the most maniacal way imaginable for what has to be one of the most devastating and original tunes for a very long time. sparse and spacious but yet rhythmical and energetic, lxc manages the ultimate arrangement balancing act here. the intensity increases gradually as the track progresses, culminating in an all-out tribal war ! a modern day jungle masterpiece from one of the most under-estimated producers around. on the flip, senses finally unleashes a track that decimated the very first technicality all-nighter back in 2004. 8 years later and that power is still very much in evidence! everybody want go heaven. nobody want dead – taking influence from the 1990 film marked for death, senses builds a dense vibe here, thick with imminent danger. rolling drums soon give way to a energetic ride-heavy break and pounding sub-bass hits. drum rolls drop and mentasms screech before the storm begins to subside half way through. the respite is brief however and after a complete silence the track reassembles, beginning with some insane slow to fast mentasm pitching which continues as a dark, slick reece begins to build with mysterious atmospherics. the tension is cut by the return of the drums – rolling along at first, before the mentasms and subs hit hard again, signaling a percussive onslaught! jungle just got catapulted into 2012.

the dust collision of swiss voodoo priestess kate waxs recently unveiled album takes its titular inspiration from switzerlands world-leading large hadron collider, where sub-atomic particles are accelerated into one another, and the subsequent fallout observed for our universal scientific advancement. the first single to be lifted from said album – title track dust collision – is a cornerstone of self-producing autocrat kate waxs personal album philosophy, where humans find new lovers through passing encounters in the night, like particles colliding in the lhc – momentary, exhilarating, predatory, intimate and ecstatic.

this 4-track ep is the first official release from new jerseys mikeq, one of the unquestioned leaders of the current vogue-house scene, and follows in the wake of a slew of self-released tunes he has dropped over the past few years. let it all out is also the second record on kingdoms fade to mind imprint, which has already received mountains of praise despite its short discography. largely built upon raw, upfront drum sounds, recycled snippets of hip-hop and r&b, and, most importantly, the ever-present >ha< (itself a repurposed masters at work sample), vogue house seemingly offered the sort of sound that tastemaking and blog-reading djs would snap up with aplomb. hell, even diplo championed the ballroom scene. yet, for whatever reason, the expected vogue-house explosion hasnt really happened. while a handful of non-ballroom producers and djs (most coming from the world of bass music) have experimented with the genre, the music essentially continues to hum along in the underground.

exactly two years after his first sirion release we proudly present mastras second 12 inch titled >out of nowhere<. this time around in collaboration with his buddy jon donson, who also released his first ep on sirion in spring 2010. the mood and structure of this latest coup entirely reflects the familiar yet different of the bernese natives mastra & jon donson. for the first time in form of an exciting fusion of individuals signed by both distinct handwritings. >out of nowhere< is a deep and, owing to a impulsive bass drum, repetitive deep house track. this impression is given through a state of mind clearly offside of a classic course. nevertheless its bits and pieces remain stuck and arent easily banished. pablo bolivar is known for his large spectrum of high quality compositions. upholding that standard he delights with yet another impressive interpretation. the subtly chosen synth revive the base of the original track - an impulsive remix of vast variety.

stephane signore delivers an excellent record called >we live in a world of ba57ard ep< chordy and firm techno that will rock in venues with good soundsystem. with long an well constructed builds on the opening track called bad trip. this is a vinyl that will no doubt get support from larger names in the industry. the second track is the stanny franssen remix of ba57ard. this is a nice rolling remix with a lot of dynamics and way more uplifting that the original. for the 3rd track on the ep we find this original piece. this is a very deep somewhat chaotic production, this might just be the eps winning track. with a strong arrangement and little vocal edits this will no doubt get played alot. for the closing track we have got >paranoid< the title covers the load, strong dark techno music that will rock your world.

daniel solar is one half of dikso, the excellent edits imprint responsible for many a disco-rinsed dancefloor burner over the last year. the hannover native is also one of berlins emergent talents, a dj, producer, label owner and a&r intent on bridging the gap between disco and dance music, while coaxing the techno-loving citys tastes a little further off the beaten track.

for more than a year, third ear and benjamin have been selecting tracks for this ep and for an album to follow later in the year. the wait was largely due to the track no kicks, which initially used a chuck d acapella, titled no. when third ear couldn?t get clearance for the acapella, we suggested to benjamin that we try and think of another poet/rapper who could produce an original lyric inspired by chuck d?s flow. after some thought we suggested diamondancer, who was inspired to write the lyric she performs here. stay hungry stay foolish and acidic sun are delicious and dreamy, with a fat pulsing groove. hello ammmerika is more urgent, pushing the groove constantly.

produced slowly and meticulously over the last 12 months, these seven tracks are the closet thing we have had to a new album from andy stott since the release of his debut full-length merciless five years ago. taking influence from an array of seemingly incoherent noises, from the indefinable and unforgettable mind- tricks of arthur russell to the slowhouse of kassem mosse, from the alternate vhs realities of james ferraro and jamal moss to the linn drum classics of the vintage prince era - these seven tracks create their own pace and agenda, largely shying away from the dancefloor in favour of something more complex and hard to define.

in 2009 the internationally acclaimed german director tom tykwer (perfume, run lola run, the international) supervised a film project in kenyas largest township kibera together with his wife marie steinmann. they put together a team of international film pros that each mentored one film student and helped them put together the movie soul boy. a story about a boy who has to go on a journey to rescue his fathers soul from a mysterious voodoo women.
the result of xavers score is a percussive journey reminiscent of minimal music from the 60s paired with african vibes but completely void of world music cliches. its closer to krautrock and steve reich than to the commonly shallow perception of indigenous music by first world movie directors. full of odd sounding kalimbas and plucky guitars, backed by heavy orchestral drumming and floating e-bows.

repress !! blackest ever black is a new london-based label that seeks to re-establish electronic music as a poetic, provocative and emotionally inquisitive force. music by artists, not engineers. its first release is a self-titled ep by raime, a british duo who draw explicit inspiration from the marginal mavericks of early european goth, industrial and synth wave - artists largely omitted from the current master narrative of post-punk history, and who strove to make music at once cerebral and visceral, futuristic and atavistic. well-versed in the language of club music, but rejecting its typically rigid sequencing and arrangements, raime use technology pensively - to convey a sense of crisis, collapse and longing. transporting and disorienting though their work might be, its narratively taut and has no truck whatsoever with the cosmic, its too aggressive and engaged to be called psychedelic.

ulysses dj career began in 1991, when he started his universitys first techno radio show. shortly after graduating he returned to his hometown and became a player in the late-90s electro scene in new york, running some of the earliest large-scale electro parties in new york. guests included legends such as alexander robotnick and arthur baker, as well as recent stars like i.f., miss kitten and the hacker and adult. ulysses is not only about party promotion, however, and a close look at his diverse musical career will quickly shatter this misconception. although a long-time advocate of obscure disco and classic techno, ulysses is currently best known for the piano house anthem robotic hypnotic adventure from his neurotic drum band collaboration with john selway. in addition to the ndb ulysses collaborates with thugfuckers holmar filipsson as filipsson & ulysses, who are releasing soon-to-be classic eps of emotive electronic disco on internasjonal and bearfunk records. ulysses still continues to chart his own musical path with an incredible ep of dark pop for internasjonal spesial in the works, as well as some new club-friendly dance tracks on wurst and his solo debut for throne of blood. the acid reflux ep represents the diversity of ulyssess talent, from banging acid tracks to moody downtempo and grooving electronic house. to round things out ulysses recruited prins thomas to deliver an unprecedented nine-minute rerub of >acid reflux< that preserves the originals 303 groove but injects a heaping dose of cosmic atmosphere and live instrumentation into the mix. essential

bergerac is the new record label set up by uk producer and dj red rack’em (aka danny berman) to showcase the more dancefloor end of his music productions. danny is well known for his wonky disco outings as hot coins on tirk and also his deep as hell beatdown house on untracked. his style of production and djing have recently taken a slightly more banging angle due to the influence of larger scale festival gigs such as glastonbury, snowbombing and the big chill. so it seemed like the perfect time to start a label focussing on house and techno for the more discerning dancefloor. the label artwork will feature bespoke illustrations from german artist silke eiselt of all the houses danny has lived in chronologically. how much more fucking house can you get than that? how i program is a raw, heads down, whacked out banger, which straddles the wafer thin divide between house and techno with aplomb. with a massive loud donking bass noise, seedy late night atmosphere and danny shouting about how he programs his shit - this is some freaky deaky peak time business. next up is bonn, a warm crackly rhodes driven halcyon house moment, which evokes the slightly majestic and nostalgic vibe of people dancing alone together in a hot room at the end of the night. cheering sourced directly from bonn in 1982 mixes with naive keywork and distant female chants the first bergerac ep closes with it happens to us all, which could be an ode to prematurely greying men, the onset of senility or occasional farting in public places. its definitely a prime slice of wrong house with some seriously french hi hats and dubbed out bassline action though. yes, its more syncopated than an exploding castanet factory but thats how we like that kind of funk
