as we welcome another talented artist to our family we asked viken about the first part of a two part release and he told us it s really important to understand that this ep is a series of pictures telling a story. combining the names of all the tracks one gets this interesting and dreamy sentence, on a blue road a white shadow feels the winter. to translate these pictures into music, i needed a very particular sound. since i am a huge fan of jazz music i took one of my favorite records, used a lot of samples and reworked them in my own way. from the technical aspect, i decided to reconnect with my first love: analog machines. i love working with sound textures. i stayed away from my laptop and all my vst/plugins as i felt the need to compose these tracks in an unusual way: i wanted the sound to be really pure. that s the reason why this process was so essential for me. for me, this ep is the first one to sound like this. this is the first of two releases from a deeply talented soul. a patient collage of house, jazz, acid squiggles and deep emotion. played and loved all summer long by lee burridge at all day i dream, these tracks will stay with you through winter and into next summer.

the inaugural release from raffaele attanasio’s letters from jerusalem represents a dark descent through various musical forms. the name of the label itself pays homage to jerusalem as a city and its metaphorical location at the center of the earth. the ep, then, is an extension of this imagery in its use of music as a descriptive source of the emotions that lie within man’s innermost recesses. credible threat, though ambitious in its breadth, is cohesive in its style and sound design: brooding, industrial, and percussive, this release is a shadowy and refreshing installment from a rising star in the underground scene.

a 2-track ep of infectious groove, ‘drifting away’ comes from hugo lx, parisian hip hop beat maker who has recently turned his hand to house, to great effect, under the guidance of mona musique’s founder nick v. having already released on chez damier’s courtesy of balance this year, as well as production for homeboy sandman on stones throw, still to come is music on highly lauded my love is underground. on the flip side is tim 2t hailing from lille, a budding producer who has offered up one stonker of a track. perfectly epitomising the mona musique sound, ‘rue 32’ was the most requested track id on nick v’s boiler room session earlier this year and firmly cements tim as one to watch.

there s an abundance of boogie-infused heat pouring out of freekwency s latest offering to keep you warm on those cold winter nights. ale chambers lays down a smooth, passionate vocal line on the title track before we get treated to some excellent alternative versions. the -first touch- mix is a buffed up jam that brings the electro funk into a leaner club-ready situation, while magic touch and luvraw work a tougher house thump underneath chambers vocal on the b-side. not content with making a peak time killer out of the original, the pairing also turn in a sublime ambient mix with the drums replaced by swirling, dubbed-out synth lines.

new sounds from an old friend... i d been running franklin de costa s records for years, but after i played for his party in berlin a few years back we kept in touch. he runs a club night called mother s finest which puts on artists like tessela, truss, untold, dj fett burger and more, as well as releasing singles under his own name on labels like killekill and curle, and, as mudkid, beautiful tracks on greta cottage workshop. the three trax built for this ep on not so much are, like anything fresh and futuristic, hard to pin down in words. sssooo is a kind of detuned chattering b-boy cut that slides sideways between dimensions while always driving forward. mldk is another one for any dancers with moves.

niro perrone better known as simply niro, or easy to remember, alongside sibling and production partner elia perrone, has come a long way over the past few years stacking up releases on the likes of m50’s revered kimochi sound, sound of vast, memento and the dub, as well as releasing his debut lp on his unclear imprint. here though we see niro introduce a new chapter with his brand new label pads.
‘hands of shadow’ opens the release and sets the tone of the label from the very beginning with an understated melodic feel fused with raw percussion and a subtly evolving yet intricate structure. ‘inner space’ follows and wanders into dub territories with spiralling echoes, low-slung drums and ethereal atmospherics. title cut ‘pieces of you’ opens the flip side and lays focus on an infectious unfaltering groove via vacillating pad swells, sporadic jazz licks and a weighty 4/4 drive before closing cut ‘the spectrometer dance’ rounds it all off with some ambient vibes.

after a few digital releases, lunar convoy delivers a masterfully executed debut ep to inaugurate newcomer belgian imprint norite’s vinyl series. counting northern electronics, hypnus records, semantica and prologue among his main influences, lunar convoy’s first effort is utterly coherent while not failing to evoke a plurality of emotions. imbued with sacred atmospheres, infiltrated with mysticism, ritualistic melodies and aesthetically charged rhythms, outer rim territories is a testimony of his love for deeper realms. on the a side, seswenna’s trancey lead synth and pumping bass opens the ep with an excursion towards distant planets. ryloth ventures into darker fields, scattered with whirring and saturated analog complains and haunted by ancient voices. on the flip side, eriadu sets a more mystical pace with syncopated kicks and floating eerie pad, to embark on a parallel dimension. allen’s take on ryloth is symptomatic of the us-based producer, speeding things up and offering a stripped down version filled with devastating hi-hats and firing toms to end this solid 4-tracker with the hypnotic-yet-effective sound that got him signed on attic music, m_rec ltd, polegroup or more recently granulart recordings. with such a captivating release, lunar convoy has set a high bar for the upcoming releases and left us under his sway.

parachute is proud and excited to release art rock unit starfuckers legendary sinistri lp, remastered and pressed on vinyl for the very first time since its original version in 1994 on underground records. formed in 1987, starfuckers is an italian avant-garde band primarily from the 1990s, considered a notable part of the experimental rock scene and one of the more out there acts during their active tenure. originally inspired by 80s post-stooges noise and new york city no wave, starfuckers eventually carved their path to their own distinctive sound by following in the footsteps of xenakis, john cage, maderna and stockhausen — all without ever abandoning their own attitude and raw personality. an incredibly important record for us here at the label, sinistri feels just as fresh in 2016 as it did in 1994.

he might be an architect by profession, but in his spare time spanish producer jaime tellado sets forth his work with the construction of groove and the design of soundscapes. under his skygaze moniker, he’s built a name for himself far outside the scene he’s grown up in. with his ‘some fun’ ep, once again showcases his well-structured yet wild-flowing melodic groove, combining deep bass with an ambient touch.

yyyy have already fortified their position in the weekend circuit family with the ominous drones of locus of control, their split release with stanislav tolkachev earlier in the year. returning with an inscrutable depth of self-explorative techno, the labels 14th release intention of mortal is a sonic dissonance of combined heavy-going and captivating artistry.stone relief on gods face is the plangent tone yyyy have chosen to begin their narrative. formed from tribal, religious and industrial undertones, this beat-free immersive environment of sound brings with it a warm introduction.

the grooves of thomas white and pete williams aka natural rhythm, have been a mainstay in the sets of robsoul boss phil weeks for more than a decade. today he pays ‘tribute’ with a special re-release of some of his favourites. born in a garage in the late 90’s, natural rhythm was a meeting of passionate musical minds. working together the pair sought to create their own style and sound, influenced by the tracks they were regularly spinning in their own dj sets across the country. creative sampling and their own raw beats, together with live instrumentation and regular guest vocalists, saw natural rhythm create a strong catalogue that, as we know, are still getting played today. with three albums and over 35 ep/single releases to their name, there more than enough music for label boss weeks to select from for the tribute ep. a tough job? of course. however, phil went straight for the four that never leave his box. leading the ep are the sun-drenched vocal vibes of ‘something big’, the title track of natural rhythm’s 1999 release on under the counter. our a2 is the lead track from 2001’s last call at the martini ranch ep, ‘chicago nights’, with its quaking bassline and disco dalliance. on the flip we’re treated to a choice selection from natural rhythm’s 1999 double album contrast in nature. first up with its celestial chimes and thumping kick is ‘smoldering island’, taken from the original part 1. closing the tribute release and taken from part 2 is the devilishly funky and suitably titled feelgood jam ‘energized’. we definitely are!

australian label nightime drama, run by peter fincher (aka vibrio) and shaun franklin (aka trebek) now serves up its second standout release of 2016. this four track affair comes hot on the heels of the last by yoshihiro arikawa, and is a second release on the label by aussie live act, dj and producer trinity, with steven tang and italian based andee on the remix. trinity has also released on ooc, coincidence and android muziq and regularly performs all round europe. his sound deep and cosmic, heady and hypnotic, as the fresh tracks here prove. cascade drive is seven minutes of direct and elastic house with spacey pads and driving drums carrying you through the cosmos. from the earthmothern label and one half of rk s, andee strips it back to a slick rubber kick drum then layers in a forceful acid line and icy hi hats to really get you under its spell. the longform groove is physical and cerebral in equal measure. the next original is expansion, and again finds trinity serving up a hi tech and soul infused deep techno sound that is lithe and liquid, smeared with great pads and truly timeless. emphasis boss steven tang is the perfect man to remix given his style, and his version flips the cut into a more heavyweight and banging techno effort, but one that is just as littered with sci fi sounds, spaceship trails and intergalactic energies.

rain text is a new project by giovanni civitenga and giuseppe ielasi. this 4-track ep is the first in a series of records produced using each time a different and fairly limited bank of sounds. giovanni civitenga is a producer from rome, currently living and working in berlin. he has released albums under different monikers on various labels including brainfeeder and huntleys + palmers. in 2014 he started skyapnea, a label and series of broadcasts on nts radio. giuseppe ielasi grew up in the south of italy and now resides in the outskirts of milano. he mostly plays solo, but also in bellows (with nicola ratti) and in duos with enrico malatesta, kassel jaeger, andrew pekler. he has released (short) records on 12k, entr acte, senufo editions, dekorder, error broadcast and other labels and also produces music under the -inventing masks- moniker.

reduced and methodical housey techno from this new anonymous project out of portugal. in the same lineage as early cabinet records or tobias freund under his tobias. moniker, the duo apply the detail-oriented approach of a sound designer to classic dancefloor forms, each cut matching techno sensibilities with a levity that can only come from a love for the giants of 90s us house. flat, impassive kicks get lifted by skippy hats and claps, dubby synth backdrops are punctured by dramatic stabs (note the chez n trent flashes on the b-side), and under it all roams an ever-restless (sub-)bass that reaches right into your guts. the name may be routine, the effect is anything but.

despite his artist name and his trademark sound, steve murphy does not come from chicago, but from mira, a little town on the suburban area of venice. steve has been djing since 2001, and in the past years has been rocking almost every club in his region. he is serious and professional behind the decks: playing only with vinyl, he blends electro and house, techno and new wave, acid madness and pop appeal. steve has produced together with die roh an album (-the chasm-) and one e.p (-windy city-) on chiwax, and a solo 10- (-planet earth-) on rawax, these records have quickly gone out of stock and that have been acclaimed by the lovers of the classic warehouse sounds. in 2012 he has started the riviera project and has founded the muscle records label, together with lucretio, dj octopus, caio, madì grein and chevel. the label is a facility to spread what has been called -the sound of brenta-: a raw, nasty, machines powered clash of house and techno. in 2012 he also released -the dove ultimatum- on vae victis records, under the moniker of durant: an unfriendly 12- of distorted electro and funky acid beats produced with die roh and lucretio.

midnite spares, australian music devotees andrás and instant peterson hold a candle to overlooked avant-pop and electronic works by antipodean artists and outsiders working through the 80s and 90s. through co-presenting weekly radio show strange holiday, the duo slowly upturned their locale for inspiration - archives, country bookstores, private collections and convenience stores, searching for a place to anchor their own identities in the oceans of the island continent. the 10 tracks acknowledge a minor history, passed on via a network of friends, friends of friends, the libraries of radio station 3rrr and more often than not, the artists themselves. renowned mixed media artist maria kozic enters with the mysterious downbeat of trust me, her partner philip brophy responsible for digital and analogue sonic construction. a recurring character in andrás and instant peterson’s investigations, brophy reappears with a score piece from his divisive feature film salt, saliva, sperm and sweat, recorded as ??? finish techno pioneer and dum records boss kimmo rapatti aka mono junk and melody boy 2000 is back with another fine ep of some of his greatest tracks. all three have been released before now, but never all together on the same ep. a1 sound stealer was released in 2007 under the melody boy 200 alias and since then has been hugely sought after, often fetching high prices on discogs. it is a high impact techno track with racing drums and chattery percussion that will take any floor by storm. a2 all alone, again as melody boy 2000, has only been released on cd before now, as part of a label compilation back in 2002. this one is deep and rubbery, spaced out and elastic and is full of moodiness and melody. both b-side tracks were written as mono junk and both were written in 1992. first up, apache acid came on vinyl own music man and is a face melting, hundred miler per hour banger with manic 303s buried within. finally, ‘beyond the darkness’ was a key early techno track to come from finland and has previously been released on dum010. says the artist of the track, “an ensoniq asr-10 arrived on the market and studio engineer perttu bought it right away, but i never liked to use sounds that someone else had made. we sampled the track’s bassline, strings and others from my jx-3p separately and mixed it all together.” the result is an atmospheric track with swirling pads, icy synths and form drums that will make people march, no doubt.

with an eye in the past and a foot in the future, acid avengers aims at federating the vibrant but little recognised acid french scene. through a series of split eps (jaquarius, monoenzyme-307, voiron, botine, umwelt, paris acid boys), the record label celebrates the hallucinated sounds of the golden age of rave. for that first release of fucked-up electro and raw techno, jaquarius and mono-enzyme 307 resuscitate the nineties sounds through a modern understanding of acid music. an ep for the legs and the brain, that will thrill all the braindancers

fuckthegovernment.ltd, a.k.a. f.t.g (alfredo trastulli) and music box head honcho, marco riff, return to the skylax fold in 2016 with a cache of house nuggets for our listening pleasure. their last venture on skylax saw f.t.g collaborate with a bunch of his friends, resulting in some of the best tracks we’d heard all year, including the unforgettable fuckthegovernment theme. their tracks have been celebrated and hailed by some of the best djs in the game, names such as derrick may, ricardo villalobos, raresh, and dj harvey. the bar set by the first record remains sky high, and somehow, these two manage to raise the bar even higher. it may be the biggest cliche going when talking about an album, but the duo certainly do take us on a journey, through the past and present of house music. it’s a record not too dissimilar in tone to paranoid london’s from a few years back, but f.t.g and marco strip things back even further than those guys did, in our opinion, the sound is more raw with less frills, and no track names to predispose feelings in the listener either. this eight track project is cohesive and elaborate, with movements through sounds both acid and jazzy, minimal and maximal. it explores sounds that came to prominence in famous house locales such as detroit and chicago over in the u.s., but the underground european influence is definitely present, from paris to berlin, and of course f.t.g and marco’s home of italy. with this album, these guys add to the underground sound that has cultivated in the city of perugia for years now, a place that has seen the likes of simoncino and nicholas hone their craft.don’t miss out on a piece of skylax history

emerging from the romanian underground scene, talented young artist dragutesku finds fapte records with a prepared artwork for this release and by coincidence the name of his 2 tracks match the already made picture, so we’ve called it coincidente. on a side is the psychedelic logo of the label matching the track halucinant, having a minimal creepy sound but with a groovy pleasing vibe in the same time, making one hallucinate when listening to it & looking at the spinning center of the vinyl. as for b side, were we can find the track pastel, we must say we barely found this pastel-painting by leonid a. who gave us the right to use it, completing the art for this release maching the colorful minimal sound of the track by dragutesku later on. these are the true facts and actions (en.trans.= fapte) we experienced and hope to transmit further along with this 180g limited vinyl.

rome native marco piovesan is a dj’s producer. his driving style, pristine sound quality and nuanced tones makes his techno of the variety that draws bodies to the dance floor, and keeps them there. 2013 was his breakout year which saw releases land on gynoid audio, m_rec ltd.. that same year piovesan launched his own enterprise, h.omevvork recordings, as a haven for richly emotive techno music imbued in ‘90s spirit. to date it’s three ep’s have been remixed by luminaries such as giorgio gigli, daub and m_rec ltd’s sadly departed chief max_m. piovesan joined the key roster soon after as part of a split ep with another (then) up-and-comer, hector oaks. his two works, “black paranoid 7” and “black paranoid 10”, were clean, steely dj fodder underscored with a dark energy that made both of them potent club weapons. now piovesan returns with four cuts of surging, remorseless marching material design to tear up strobe-lit basements and big room halls alike. for djs who take no prisoners, who enjoy calling on the old techno ghosts too.

this up and coming producer is already a legend amongst the crew of techno freaks in brooklyn. with previous releases on local imprint lovers rock, and releases slated for proibito and exotic dance under the the aliases dj python and dj xanax, dj wey aka brian pinyero has contributed a massive 12” to bank records. the a side “song for masahiro” is dedicated to masahiro ueda, a dj and friend who graced the bk scene by way of japan. it’s a bass heavy tune with melodic pads floating in the forefront amongst the occasional cheering sample. it s perfect for either opening or closing a set midsummer. in contrast, the b side opens with “flow on.” with its distorted kicks, relentless claps and hypnotic bells one could imagine hearing it on a nightmarish carnival ride...fit that into a set. the record ends on an electro tip with spaced out pads, backwards samples and classic electro style drum patterns. distinct in sound and diverse in approach, don t sleep on the homie dj wey.
