The inaugural release from Raffaele Attanasio’s Letters From Jerusalem represents a dark descent through various musical forms. The name of the label itself pays homage to Jerusalem as a city and its metaphorical location at the center of the Earth. The EP, then, is an extension of this imagery in its use of music as a descriptive source of the emotions that lie within man’s innermost recesses. Credible Threat, though ambitious in its breadth, is cohesive in its style and sound design: brooding, industrial, and percussive, this release is a shadowy and refreshing installment from a rising star in the underground scene.

Attanasio’s partnership with Nitzer Ebb lead singer Douglas J. McCarthy is perhaps the most notable installment in this collection. The opening single is spiked with EBM-indebted techno, acid-infused kicks, and tension-fraught breakdowns. McCarthy’s vocals are menacing, yelling ‘Credible threat, rain down on everything’ over an extended synth line. Tha Down Low and Eutanasia perpetuate the use of Credible Threat’s metallic instrumentation, but are reminiscent of Attanasio’s more traditional techno-leaning style.Though less extrinsically industrial, the EP’s remaining tracks are heavy-fisted and highly rythmic. Swelling alarms and broken samples punctuate Eutanasia, propelling the freshman release to a hypnotic and dance floor-driven close.
