after more than three years of silence as a producer, efdemin a.k.a phillip sollmann returns with a striking hybrid concept that merges the album format with the -continuous dj mix- format, presenting completely new material in a seamless manner. this cd-mix, named na•f, officially reinstates his label of the same name and is a sprawling tour of inner space featuring 19 distinct tracks from fellow producers (e.g. margaret dygas, steve bicknell, jeroen search, pom pom, marco shuttle or gunnar haslam) along with an additional ten that feature efdemin himself (either as soloist or collaborator). the release condenses his decade-long dj-ing journey and evolution as a producer into a single potent elixir of contemporary techno. owing to his additional projects, such as collaborating with pan artist konrad sprenger on a modular organ system to be installed in museums, or scoring for a neue musik ensemble, the berlin-based efdemin is known as hiker between the worlds . his regular stints at berghain or panoramabar, his partnership with established labels (e.g. ostgut ton, dial, sushitech) and the leadership of his own na•f imprint all demonstrate that since more than a decade.

with many influences, the musicians of la mano create a peculiar sound, a rock-salsa-ra•-reggae-rap cocktail which they baptize patchanka. manu chao, who writes lyrics, gives to the patchanka a more personal definition: a popular dance with apache lyrics and chorizo spirit. the band starts touring across france in october 1987 and rapidly establishes a solid reputation. a few months later, when the second record putas fever is released, the success is obvious. tracks sung in french, spanish or arabic, pas assez de toi, king kong five or sidi hbibi are immediate hits. after a long live-cruise in 1992 along the south american coasts, la mano negra gets back to france and separates in 1994. its hard to tell the impact of la mano negra across french and spanish speaking countries, with as many particular experiences that people lived during their tours.

the sound of studio one can be identified by the great singers that it cultivated along the many great songs that these singers released. but as studio 1 s dominance was slowly pulled away by the up and coming new breed of producers many of the artists would inevitably end up working for these new camps and so the songs and singers found a new audience. the reggae sound of the studio 1 would make a great combination and the man to pull this was together bunny lee.

el rego is a true legend of african soul music. here for the first time on album are 12 of his greatest recordings from the late 60s and early 70s hand-picked by daptone records. afro-soul collector/ dj frank gossner had spent years combing west africa tracking down 45s by theophile do rego (aka el rego) before finally meeting him face to face in his home in benin. from that relationship came this album, which we present to you here in a 20 page hardcover bookcase cd featuring el regos own story of his life and music along with pictures from his personal collection and artwork from his original 45s. the music has been remastered with great care, and the vinyl contains an exclusive bonus 45 (while supplies last) of se na min, one of his most sought after afro-funk tracks, backed with e ma non tin me, a beautiful and somewhat more traditional song about two blind men who agree to go together and leap to their deaths into a river.
