the model is no stranger to gigolo, and we (the royal we) are no strangers to the model. as a supporter of gigolo records, you, our fated reader, should be familiar with our protagonist previous gigolo adventure. but in the words of the late george harrison, >all things must pass< and with this in mind we would like to reintroduce...
the model doesnt just have his own sound, he has in fact attempted to engineer his own genre: dark-techno-baroque. the sound has been crafted through a penchant for aristocratic mannerisms and a passion for high fashion and low fetish. it also happens to pretty succinctly sum up part of his unique personality. set against a backdrop of refined charm, there s an underbelly of something dark and brutal, which is possibly the best way to describe the a-side >in the night<. in many ways this could be seen as a return to form for gigolo, immediately poppy but structured as a classic song with haunting vocals underpinned with a driving techno rhythm. to further consolidate the techno aesthetic look no further then >flex on the b-side and you have a pounding track that could have been played by daft punk in 96 and will probably find a home with a diverse selection of djs today.
the >vampire funk ep< is the first release from the models forthcoming album on gigolo. the concept is in the same vain, but delves deeper into the dark-side of the model. exploring his fetish with the night and creatures that occupy its opulent corridors. like classic transylvanian tales the music from this album will present details that set the mood and composition to create tracks with narrative regardless of lyrics or words. the result being music that moves both bodies and minds and stirs the blood. as pretentious as this sounds the author of this mindless scrap of paper has the fortunate privilege of speaking from experience. as the mind that moves the hands that moves the keyboard is the mind that is being moved by the music as i type and you read. so we are already part way there. the rest will unfold in the coming months.

as the title of their new full length recording suggests, green concorde is moving, and moving fast. the direction is one and one only: out!
be it from the dark star palm trees of miami, from the silvercoated buildings in the city of glass or from the claustrophobic humidity of their now abandoned rehearsal room in copenhagen, this outfit is running for safety. out where the stars look like arrows on fire. as they move, green concorde stays true to their pulsating post-punk brand, though some of the sounds characteristic noise has been distilled and filtered, leaving a more soft and atmospheric expression than the one characterizing their previous album, ten cities. and unlike ten cities, this album is not a result of hours spent in a cold rehearsal room in a humid basement. instead the nine songs were written under intimate and private forms, partly in the bandmembers own appartments in copenhagen, partly in a small cottage in the dark outskirts of denmark. the run has begun. are you ready to follow green concorde down the corridor, to the exit, through the gates, out into safety?

downwards sidestep expectations again with this glorious limited 10inch vinyl release from tropic of cancer. two beautifully dark compositions that remind slightly of angelo badalamenti in >twin peaks< mode, or maybe reservoir dogs, if it had been filmed with a huge cavern as the soundstage. processed guitar and drones wash swampily over a simple drumbox beat, as eerie snatches of melody float in and out. as badalamenti himself said of his own work, >my (musical) world is a little bit dark... a little bit off-center. i think of it as tragically beautiful. that is how i would describe what i love best: tragically beautiful.< seems to sum this release up quite nicely too...

a ton of steel and pipes used as instruments? à driving steel beats, accompanied by synthesizer sounds and experimental industrial samples create the sound of pale musics premiere release >phsychomania<. for sure this record, presented by matt eno and steve morell, head of pale music, is no easy listening. five bands / projects come together on this sampler, all of them top name current level of electronic and industrial music. from time to time the music appears to be dark and eerie. guest vocalists include luna di morph and rosa lee riza.

moleculez returns to meta4 ready to clear dancefloors with some of his most destructive material to date. you know you are dealing with some serious dance music when none of the tracks on a release have vocal samples. the opening track, future in progress, is blessed with a wonderfully deep kickdrum that would probably even sound good at plus20, although we havent tried that yet. out of a nowhere the track suddenly seems to have stopped when an eerie melody creeps out of the dark. this sets the tone for the rest of the release: dark, driving and threatening. gargoyle is the most driving. lava bomb the eeriest: and future in progress the most threatening. thats what we think, anyway. you decide. the last two tracks on this release are probotector and the haunted. the first is actual textbook honest to goodness industrial hardcore while the latter isnt really anything we can talk about here. highly recommended because we want to sell records

determined to write a new chapter in nycs long history of dance music, marcos cabral and jacques renault (think dfa, rekids, im a cliche, wurst edits, chinatown, editions disco, rvng, trapez, and more) have decided to launch their own record label on the prowl. with a heavy nod to american classic house, techno, and disco, otp listeners should expect a variety of sound that will propel them to dance for years to come. the first otp instalment entitled the poltergeist throws a heavy blow of dark acid bass, todd terry-esque stabs, and proper dubbed out distortion for a feeling that will leave listeners floored... leaving even the most stubborn of listeners open for more. house music, raw and unrestricted. the b-side, not to be overshadowed, brings us dont block the box. an a-side in its own right, delivering us good old fashioned house music with hypnotically filtered samples and pulsing arms in the air swells of resonance.

temple of the sun is the fifth ep of the london based french producer harold boue. after his last track >chandler bing< has been charted by erol alkan and played by simian mobile disco, rex the dog (for bbc), mattie safer... abstraxion is creating here an universe of mixed up dark and brightness with warped-schizophrenic bassline. this ep reaches the diversity of abstraxions universe: from peaktime techno (b and s, temple of the sun), disco-balearic (slices), to beatless deep ambient (vampyros lesbos). abstraxion is composing an organic music, only with old analog synthesizers, in a gesture of unmitigated desire: a desire for the elementary beauty of techno.

this ep is presented in three tracks: >wires< takes the a side, while >extrany< and the remix of >wires< by the duo hydraulix from miami on the b side. cult graphic artist abdul qadim haqq (red planet, underground resistance) has painted the cover and concept for the first release.

dan quin has spent the last 10 years of his life mapping & mastering the animal & natural world of his promised land, the bottom of the earth, the south pole, antarctica, >the end of the world<ùand apparently producing some of the newest in dark analog driven techno & house. determined to create what he called >an artistic testament to the great antarctic expanse,< quin employed the recordings on his 1st 12 inch release, the haunting and epic >at the end of the world.< we can only hope he continues to labor away in his igloo of inspiration, hearing further calls of primitive encouragement and continuing his crusade to bring the beautiful silence of the arctic to our warm & ready earlobes.
