short stories is the fruition of musical ideas brought forth by label owner / chief producer gabriel ananda and multitalented instrumentalist and vocalist alice rose. the two of them have come together to resurrect a project from 2001 and have put together a colorful mix of strings, vocals, and melodies. there is something familiar and comforting in the sound of this ep. it could be roses strings, which were introduced with her debut for basmati food for dreams (basmati 06), or elements of anandas live series, there is an aspect to the sound that just fits. ananda and rose have delivered the complete package. the a-side opens with the not-so-short short stories, a fourteen minute evolving trip covering the scope of both producers’ talents. the b-side contains two versions of “struck by light. the techno version comes with power and emotion, crafted for the dance floor, which is followed by the deeper, original version recorded for the first time in 2001.

helium robots is ewan wilmott. up until now with only two (albeit brilliant!) dissident releases under his belt - and an album on the horizon - he might have been under most peoples radar.a pity! the helium robots make imaginative factory-records-electro-balearic-disco, errr, and robot music. two tracks of that caliber are placed on the a-side. the flip has theo parrish laying his gifted hands on jarza to two different outcomes.>translation 1< is an up-to-date parrish space cadet trip, while the second take emphases the dark and typical theo magic in his roots house period.limited beautiful robot sleeve covers.the laws of robotics!

norm talley tackles techno. yes, you heard that right… in spite of 3 tracks on the original transmissions that fell a little closer to what the heads would expect from a very reliable source, it was that first one that everyone begged for more of. we must agree that those 3 minutes were just a little of a tease, so here is the full 9-minute extended cut of “man on the moon” that all of you asked for, and what a trip it is! certainly funky broken-beat techno is a new look for norm, but it’s pretty obvious in all 9 of the minutes here that this is a man from detroit making the music he knows best. there’s a groove and a touch here that speaks of soul and experience… although you may find this one in the crates of some of the new school techno elite, it’s safe to say they couldn’t have made it the way norm talley did. even if you remember part one you may be surprised where he takes it, but we’re even more pleased to say that “earth 2 moon” beats it at its own game. this one made our necks snap and heads turn the very first time.
