ital foundation came together in the winter of 1977, out of a shared belief in rastafarianism and deep love of reggae music in their home place bermuda. their music tackles global issues of colonialism, poverty, prophecy and redemption. they released only one album in their legendary career, the 1980 release ital foundations vol.1. a tumultous history rought with trial and tribulation resulted in ital foundation being an underground musical movement that saw record sales all over the world while the band languished in obscurity.

yuri shulgin is a multi-instrumentalist music producer from tajikistan. his discography includes a small number of releases from the greek label modernista and the french escapade recordings. animal planet is his contribution on cocktail d amore music. this ep is a live-recorded masterpiece that will lift dance floors into heavenly heights. a1 takes the record title. it s an acid based, genre-blurring piece of music, enveloping and disorienting at the same time. infinite strings melt together to a constant build up, reminiscent of steve reich - double sextet/2x5. boogie space feels like the continuation of the previous track, evoking a cloud of glitter in absence of gravity. walking starts off the b side. its funk future jazz-influenced groove is supported by an organic, as bouncy as timeless bassline. while the stripped down dubby body goes to deep realms, the outro recordtake closes this surreal ep.

london artist mal-one has recorded a 7” to celebrate all things punk... name checking many london record stores in this song, with a reggae/dub version on the b-side. the record cover is a collage of a 100 punk singles of all the classics from adam and the ants to x ray spex. his next london punk art exhibtion is in may on piccadilly and inside the shrink wrapped 45 is an invite to the show. mal-one has exhibited along side banksy and peter blake among others. this black vinyl 7” only release of 600 copies.

nils frahm, born in 1982, had an early introduction to music. during his childhood he was taught to play piano by nahum brodski – a student of the last scholar of tschaikowski. it was through this that nils began to immerse himself in the styles of the classical pianists before him as well as contemporary composers. today nils frahm works as an accomplished composer and producer in berlin. in early 2008 he founded durton studio, where he has worked with peter broderick and dustin o’halloran amongst other fellow musicians.
the three instrumentals, which make up his debut release wintermusik are piano led pieces, coloured with occasional celeste and reed organ parts. the record’s equal measures of sorrowful refrains and uplifting passages, combined with a real intimacy that makes for an album you’ll want to return to again and again. the songs were originally intended as a christmas present for friends and family, hence its winter release on erased tapes. the vinyl release includes a download code.

this is a masterpiece. beautiful, golden-era soul written by leon sylvers iii, produced by jerry butler and keg johnson. . the sylvers were a family from los angeles who were very successful during the 70’s and into the early 80’s, with chart hits – deep into pop-disco territory by then! – including ‘boogie fever’, ‘hot line’ and ‘high school dance’. this is the groups second album, from 1973, and is one of their strongest. opening with the awesome mid-tempo ‘we can make it if we try’ the record moves through funk, boogie and deep soul moods, finishing on a hazy, acapella version of the beatles ‘yesterday’.

can’t stop dancing is very sought after among record collectors and has now been picked up by djs on the international club scene and is the perfect soundtrack for a mellow summer night.

sami baha is a turkish producer based in south east london. his music was introduced to the world via his 2016 ep “mavericks” (planet mu), recorded while he was moving from istanbul to london where he’s now been living the last 3 years. sami got into producing through being a rapper himself, working with local rappers in turkey and producing beats for them, before setting his sights outside the country.
while his first record was focused around a more familiar trap based hiphop sound, “free for all” expands its range into more unfamiliar territory and also brings his production into focus by featuring a number of mcs from all corners of the globe: uk drill squad 67’s dimzy, stockholm’s yung lean and chicago rapper and singer dj nate (aka flexxbabii) who’s previously recorded on planet mu as a footwork producer. the record also features the rowdy sing-song of egyptian mcs dawsha and abanob from cairo whom sami met while on tour in egypt.

jaars other people is pleased to present a new solo record of guitar and live custom electronics artist patrick higgins, an american avant-garde composer and producer from new york city. higgins is known for his work in experimental and contemporary classical music, playing guitar and composing in the mythical avant-noise-jazz ensemble zs. his solo work as a composer unites european avant-garde forms with the post-minimalist howl of new york. his upcoming release on other people, dossier, is a four-movement piece performed live without overdubs or edits. all of the samples and synthetic patches were custom built and specifically engaged to become elements of live guitar manipulation. the sound world is post-apocalyptic in spirit but builds to an intimate and reflective end. the material was developed over a two-year period and finalized at the end of 2016. cover art is by alfredo jaar.

the third release on the sister label, new york trax imports, comes from the legendary dutch producer and founder of one of the most eclectic underground record labels, vincent koreman aka drvg cvltvre of new york haunted. since 2009, drvg cvltvre has been working on his own blend of dystopian acid, no wave, and experimental house. respected in the international underground for his groundbreaking work in experimental techno as ra-x in the 90&#8242,,s on labels like bunker and kk records, drvg cvltvre comes from a diy punk background and opts for hard work rather than hollow pose. the 4-track ep for new york trax imports is an accurate representation of his style: dark and melancholic, but also uncompromisingly intense.

los angeles producer sweatson klank builds his productions as if they were films, developing a story from start to finish. stylistically, fine lines his debut full length for friends of friends, picks up where his 2017 then i was me’ ep left off, melding forward thinking hip hop and electronics as a back drop for a soulful and sultry journey through a tumultuous love affair, loss of self, and the dark empty spaces in our minds. the songs on fine lines sit in a space occupied by hip hop, future r&b and house, yet the record cleverly transcends any single genre. while much of the production is hard hitting, the album manages to walk a tightrope between heartache and swagger. a meticulous fine line that weaves itself like a thread throughout. sweatson klank enlists a number of features on the album including newcomers ana calvo, sarah saldivia, and annie bass as well as past collaborator, montreal producer ango.

first official reissue of the extremely rare full-length album by lagos-based bandleader shina williams. clean copies of the original currently sell for up to £500. the record was born in 1979 when shina put biddy wright, fred fisher, saliu alabi, prince bola, tutu shoronmu, tunde willimas and several other decorated nigerian musicians – who played with the likes of fela kuti, sjob movement, sonny okoson, king bucknor amongst others – together to record. the result is ‘african dances’, a timeless fusion of afrobeat, electronics, boogie and disco. includes his most well-known song, ‘agboju logun’ that williams knew was ground breaking – “i want to show the whole wide world that africa is alive with modern musicians to reckon with anywhere,”. this album version is a different mix to the two-track 12” that came out under on earthworks, rough trade in 1984. official mr bongo reissue. replica original artwork. licensed direct from shina williams.

lyon beatsmith saint paul made an impressive full debut in 2017 with his introspection ep on moonrise hill material (which he co-runs with his boys folamour, ethyène and kaffe crème). after tasty contributions to v/as on the likes of apparel wax and fhuo, the frenchman is back with another solo record on dc s better listen records. the naturist behavior ep is a tastefully balanced, warm-weather oriented four tracker. the title track and the a2, a hawaiian trip, explore playful and jazzy territories. meanwhile, the flip hosts moodier ventures via the bittersweet boogie of tell me- and the ice cold late night jam, feels good.

sublunar, the record label founded by sciahri and dagdrom last year starts his 2018 with a brand new ep from the berlin based artist refracted, known for his releases on semantica, pole group, silent season and mind express. this 12” perfectly represent how his style has been crafted during these years, a balanced mixture between his incredible ear for detail, tunnelling trips and tougher beats.

those who experienced listening to the original maria rita version of -cântico brasileiro nº3 (kamaiurá)- on the dancefloor know it’s such a thrilling experience that could only be better if the song was a bit longer. at the same time, it didn’t make much sense to mess with the original. having these thoughts on their minds, the selvagem boys augusto olivani and millos kaiser (the minds behind selva discos) had an insight while discussing the reissue of the -brasileira- material with singer maria rita stumpf: why not hit the studio and remake the track? also, why not ask someone like joakim, known for his exquisite taste and brilliant production skills, to remix -lamento africano/rictus-? it would be the perfect package. and that’s what happened.

colin potter is a sound engineer and musician currently based in london. he has worked within the fields of electronic and experimental music for over 35 years, collaborating with the likes of current 93, the hafler trio, organum, andrew chalk, and most notably as a key part of nurse with wound alongside steven stapleton. he started the esteemed icr (integrated circuit recordings) label in 1981 releasing a clutch of wonderful home recordings of his own, over half a dozen small run cassette only releases. ‘the where house?’ was recorded in 1981 at ic studio, a converted wash house in sutton on the forest in north yorkshire. the album was self-released on cassette that same year via icr. this expanded double lp edition features all 13 tracks from the original tape on vinyl for the first time plus 4 bonus tracks. ‘the where house?’ is a prime example of early uk post-punk/industrial electronic music. “combining dub, electro, and krautrock rhythms with psychedelic, kosmische noise in multiple mutations ranging from almost pop-wise songcraft to horizon-scanning motorik flights,” says boomkat. most of the damage was done by colin using guitars, synths, sequencers, drum machines, percussion, and modified toy keyboards with fairly primitive 4-track recording equipment. he was assisted on some of the tracks by stephan jadd-parry (guitar, percussions), jon caffery (guitar, bass, e-bow, percussion) and nick jackson (synth). all songs have been remastered for vinyl by george horn at fantasy studios in berkeley. the record is sleeved in a replica of the original cassette artwork by jonathan coleclough. every copy includes a double sided postcard insert with notes from colin.

dark entries is proud to release ‘commerce’, the third ep from san francisco-based trio inhalt, german for “content”. the group was founded in 2009, and for the purposes of this recording are matia simovich, philip winiger and steven campodonico. inhalt’s core operative strategy is of sonic fidelity and integrity rather than nostalgia. their first release was a split 12- on world unknown in 2011 followed by two eps on dark entries, a remix ep on emotional especial and a part time punks session on cleopatra. ‘commerce’ is a close examination of the self destructive tendency of the ego in relation to the allure of negativity and mass tragedy. the ep details the psychopathy of relentless thirst mandated by neo-liberalism and traverses through the adoption of social and economic technologies that strengthen domination vis a vis self enslavement to disempowerment. employing the best of both modern and vintage techniques, the four songs on the ep utilize dense production, big snares, and powerful german vocals from philip. inhalt are informed by the brooding soundtracks of john carpenter as much as the vastness and sheen of trevor horn, and set out to explore the borders between the vocal-driven pop song and the expansive dancefloor 12&#8243,,,, arrangement. the record was produced over four years at the bands own black sun loft recording studio and different fur studios. paul lavigne mastered the ep in london, england at kontrast mastering and george horn handled the vinyl eq curve at fantasy studios, berkeley. each ep is housed in a specially designed jacket by leo merz and includes a lyric sheet with english translations.
