rivulet 004 is a home run for the young label wich operates between leipzig and berlin. the split-ep comes with 2 tracks by talski and stanley schmidt wich discloses the understanding of electronic music between the antagonism of deep and cheesy, techno and house, melancholia and euphoria that always drove the idea behind the label. stanley schmidt delivers a sample-based deephousetrack, wich opens up from a darker mood to sunshine- inspired >emo-house< using soul-inspired strings and a catchy (but not well known) vocal-snippet by candi staton. >a.brain0030< by talski is a dark, mystical techno-ballad wich comes with a broken beat and a drifting tribal. as always talski proofes his skills by using unusual sounds and a nonconform arrangement, wich always bears the quality of his tracks.
waehlscheibe stays true to its dub house approach last heard on waehl 003 with p.laoss: the swiss label has compiled four wonderfully relaxed and dubby tracks by various artists for release 004 again vinyl only! alessandro crimi starts the record off with his incredibly deep >gravitation< which revolves around an ultra wam and morphing pad. s&ros >drunken hats< is just as funky as its dubby and perfectly fits the labels philosophy just like a.s cudias >cadendo< which relies on super sweet rhodes and pianos to form a deep and melodic house song two fantastic tunes. baldo from spain finishes the ep with his smooth oldschool house track >deep & down< which delights with tons of machine funk. waehlscheibe continues to amaze with these four musical gems that underline the labels talent to assemble brilliant musicians and compile wonderfully deep records. once more all tracks have been mastered by above smoke at the hole of dub studio.

release no.2 on nofitstate sees matthew styles taking over the reigns the signals ep is a varied beast as youd expect from one of the most distinguished and versatile producers of the last couple of years. signals kicks things off, a beautifully effortless flowing groove with on-point percussion and subtle elements that keep things moving perfectly. lucky keeps the vibe nice and deep, a razor sharp snare imbuing the track with a sense of energy whilst codex leans toward melody with it s pitch perfect arpeggiated motif dominating proceedings. gesopik console rounds the ep off nicely with a nod to nu-disco energy.

collaborations are often the fortune of timing. with andy having moved on since closing the dissident label to launching his cave paintings project to tim s departure from battant and striking out as andrew weatheralls engineer and soon to be co-member of the asphodells, an alliance was born between the two to undertake a series of live jam sessions at eachs respective studios. a love of new wave, new beat, uk bleep and detroit techno all feature in b-ultras and the aptly titled, neu beat. both cuts are heavily soaked in the pitch black, smoke machine funk and strob-laden fug of andys (and co-hort joe hart) infamous world unknown dancefloor. running at around 10 minutes the tracks are essentially an examination of acid houses ideals. clattering hats, throbbing basslines, stabbing keys and doses of 303. keeping it pretty simple but all about a pure groove on and on. backing these up is a remix of b-ultras from jamie paton that accentuates the groove and drags the acid deeper down to some b-boy dub throwdown - with more to follow from all protagonists in 2014.
