following up the fantastic summer re-release of upsetting keys “empathy” ep, path records follows with its first new catalogue number since 2006. path 008 marks the return of artist fate 258, whose 1999 “why 2k” path 001 ep has been a hotly sought after item on discogs. the three-track ep contains two exciting new mixes of cult classic techno track “the path”. the a-side version “path to hell” is the harder of the pair, a dark edgy journey into the unknown with shuffling 808 rhythms providing much of the melody. “path to heaven” slows the groove down and adds warm juno pads throughout the mix for a very deep detroit flavored techno style. on the final track “heaven or hell” sort of a broken beat downtempo piece, sparse vocals and bladerunner samples mix to complete the dystopian concept. these mixes of “the path” are considered pre-mixes, as they were completed in 1998 before the original release of path 001. fate 258 is a project from brooklyn producer reade truth, known for his work over the last decades on labels such as planet e, sonic groove, n-syde, wurst and strictly rhythm to name a few. limited to 250 worldwide, with the first 100 including full black and white cover art.

the next release on paul rip s specimen records is by god of the machine, the brainchild of deep house and techno maestro, derrick thompson a.k.a. drivetrain. the ep kicks of with the original, a powerful slice of jackin tribal techno, its bleeps, tones and chants sitting atop a tight percussive groove that s infectious from the first beat to the last drop. next up comes hijacker s electro workout. its beats are old school yet the attitude is set firmly in the future with its square wave bass line, trippy noises and swooping scikfi pads. santonio echols takes it back to detroit with a simple yet driving tech house rendition containing sublime melodic chords, eerie pads and a hypnotic pad stab that sends tingles up your spine. mr.c finishes with one of his typically infectious acid workouts, where he adds a cheeky bassline, haunting pads and cowbell pings to blend and morph into the twisted effects of a psychoactive substance.

the two dirty birdies from hageby are back with the back in the day ep! the title cut flips a classic brooklyn funk sample into a deep house burner, last night really gives it to us (baby), and estrelar showcases the groovy disco side of the wo. rounding out the ep is a daniel leseman remix that reworks the title track into a completely fresh production, bringing the deep dance floor heat for which the fouk member and outplay records co-boss is known. all killa no filla!

cold colors was born in bordeaux, france, in the mid 70s. his passion for music, particularly new wave and melancholic atmospheres, started early and strongly influenced his own creations years later. the first records he ever bought were the cure, depeche mode and soft cell. in the 90s, frederick bought his first guitar and composed songs under the name agent orange. in 2002, the cold colors project was born, with a release on the excellent lux records, as well as many live performances. fred loves working with machines. his music mixes warmth and melancholia, an obvious homage to cold wave and new wave, by blending todays electronic music with the melodic sounds of yesterday.

moscow label grow continues in fine creative form, seemingly not sticking to a motive or trend but rather concentrating on the strength of character within the music it releases. for the labels eighth release the artist is berlin based the marx trukker, who over the last 10 years has been developing his very distinct sound and recent output on labels like pluie/noir, the untold stories, and most recently noorden, have all been especially impressive. now on grow comes the 4 track vinyl * heavens crackling*, from the title one is expecting something awesome, and the album does not disappoint, right from the off, the first track: * a time well spent*, begins with celestial tones ringing out and the performance develops with great synth work, enlightened and very enlivening, spring is in step and something is beginning. the record continues at such a level throughout, overflowing with rich tones, warmth, and raw sounding percussion. in the second track, * all the boating still a tide to go*, deep warm bass and strings reverberate, as if amidst a hot harbours summer, then the ethereal synths return as magical breezes of cooling wind on a june day. on the bside comes the title track * heavens crackling*, the tone has cooled, there is an autumnal vibe, extended tones of an eerie but reassuring nature provide the ground, from under which a molten bass flows playfully. the final track, * i do anything but its so cold*, as the title would suggest, again time has passed, gone are the warm relaxed echoes of the the opening tracks, winter has come, and a strong percussive energy becomes the driving force of an especially deep and more introverted last track. in heavens crackling there is an uncanny understanding of time passing and representation of being, its present in the patience and performance within every track, and the effect of the album, which seems, like the seasons, to naturally come full circle, is for the listener indeed to experience a time well spent. top marks for the marx trukker!

brian harden enters the sounds of the city team with 3 tracks following the mood operated on his previous works last year. brian continues to draw his path, as confortable and fresh as he was a couple of decades ago, a great welcome and a strong ep for the fresh sounds of the city.

devoted to the art of movement is the first record from nss (no spiritual surrender) a duo formed by j.c. (ahd co-owner together with damian schwartz) and kastil this e.p. centers it s attention towards electro, but continue ahds heritage of giving a twist to those 90s sounds that influenced us so much, from early idm to detroit, all is present here. the opening track is the one that gives the ep it s name, an acid stomper build around an electro beat that builds up and down fiercely. the track maintains its tension throughout its whole length by building strings and arpeggios over its acid sequence, never transferring its beat to a straight kick, capturing the attention since its first second. proposed playground is build around a more steady electro beat, strings and sounds merge themselves around the beat to create a beautifully hypnotic piece where where some background melodies tickle our ears bringing memories from idm golden years. zero one is closing track, without leaving the electro rhythms the defined the whole ep the track is build around a phrenetic synth sequence that sets the path for the whole length, rhythms are rough and strong and its syncopated hitting adds emphasis on that frenzy atmosphere since its first second till the last.

the bush is a homage to the place where i have lived for the last decade (askew road). the askew road itself is slowly changing so i wanted to document all the places that play a big part in mine and my families lives before they eventually get sold for more flats or tescos. first up was peckings studio 1 record shop, which has been on this stretch of road since the 1960s. next up is the mighty sun pub which became a local talking point when they sold the place because a sign sat in the window that announced this bup is close.

aboutface is firstly a composer/live performer and secondly a dj, hailing from east london he steps up for the next release on amirali’s newly founded imprint dark matters. drawing upon both the sociological and environmental landscape as creative inspiration, aboutface uses his background in fine art and painting to help inform his productions. all the last three years music has been inspired by a thousand mile plus journey through eastern europe and around the coastal regions of the uk, each song using the environmental recordings of a different region or city as the creative starting point.

shake the mind encapsulates the sound of clouded vision recordings, with a long awaited single from matt walsh, backed with a remix from daniel avery. alongside the radio edit, the title track is a 7-minute trip of late night acidic techno, with a nod to matts new wave and ebm influences. the double a-sided vinyl is completed with a pounding slice of atmospheric techno and the first new piece of music from daniel avery, since the release of his critically acclaimed album, drone logic last year. dan returns the remix-favour to close friend matt after his version of free floating appeared on the drone logic remix album new energy earlier this year.

the fine folks at moton, that will be diesel and jarvis, hook us up with something a little special this summer, slimming their usual 12- format down into superb colored 7 inches of edit delights... sister to sister does its thang with plenty of soul and sass, blowing our minds with far out funk, and full on frequencies. last but not least, diesel and jarvis go beachcombing with the blue eyed boogie off flipping it over we are the sunset, is a jazzed out, funked up cut ripe for early hours or end of night play.

over the last 12 years, kel mckeown, or kelpe, has carved himself a unique perch in the uk s electronic underground. across several full-lengths, eps and remix projects, his misfit electronica has managed to cohere a staggeringly deep spectrum of influence along the way. a natural son and heir to generation warp and the fathers of krautrock, his pioneering experiments in the early 00s also positioned him as one of many stylistic precursors to the arrival of la s now-sprawling beat scene. much like scene-savants prefuse 73 and dimlite, kelpe has remained an enormously respected stalwart of the fringes, always dabbling variously in sampleheavy beat-craft, oddball ambient, and more recently dancefloor-ready club grub.

rekids welcomes madrid-based producer regal to the label for the first time, with the long-awaited release of the figure/enemy records affiliates interpretations of ghetto kraviz. with the original named by fact magazine as one of the top 100 tracks of the decade so far, regals 303 and dub remixes have meanwhile been a recurring feature in the sets of djs including nina kraviz, who fell in love with them immediately upon being sent them last year, leading to their eventual release on matt edwards s recently re-launched imprint. the a-side sees the involve records boss turn in an jacking, acidic take, while on the flip, the dub version heads in a more classic techno direction, replete with pounding kicks and cathedral-filling reverb. these are two killer remixes have been going down a storm…!

released for the first time on vinyl is max richter’s emotive and minimal score to damon lindelof’s tv series about a post-apocalyptic global event where 2% of the world’s population disappears without explanation. richter’s approach explores the feelings of the protagonist’s family, the garveys, through intimate, small scale music. he tackles this psychological landscape by bringing a ritual quality to the score, while themes of departure and loss are represented by a sense of sonic decay, relying on the instrumentation of a few sustained tones on pianos, harps and celesta. max richter is a classically trained composer that defies boundaries. trained at the royal academy of music and finishing his studies under the tutelage of avant-garde composer luciano berio in florence, richter’s career has followed many paths. his musical output ranges from ballets (wayne macgregor’s infra), reinventions of classical works (vivaldi’s four seasons), collaborations with the future sound of london, roni size and vashti bunyan to writing scores for film and tv (waltz with bashir, lost and found, last days on mars) and solo work (memoryhouse, the blue notebooks, 24 postcards in full colour).

tiago, a name synonymous with the lisbons underground night trust at lux club and a portuguese pioneer of the blend between all kinds of music. also, tiago has released twisted tracks consistently for close to 10 years now, spreading his net across quality like jolly jams, public possession and his very own imprint interzona13. he epitomises how the art of quality disco, house & techno music should be done. in these glutted days of cutand- paste edits, his care, passion and talent hark back to the origins of the musical movement. as a producer, dj and musician, tiago and his extensive discography have played a vital role in the reawakening of love and interest in the various shades of leftfield dance music over the last decade across the world.

for the past few years, young denmark vessey has been releasing a series of albums, both as a leader of carious groups and as a sideman in various others, which definitely mark him as one of the most exciting young players in music. vessey’s last album prior to this (2013’s cult classic) employed scud one for the rhythm section. vessey, in his own playing suggest that he may be forging a link between the new mainstream and prior innovations. it is to vessey’s credit that this album achieves a surprising degree of unity. there is little of the haphazard feeling that too often arrends blowing sessions by pick-up bands. it would be easier to mistake this for a group which works regularly. part of that is simply because vessey is a part of the new mainstream, the part that is seeking beyond the accepted common language to find ways of extending it. the rest is because of vessey’s unusual talent.
